Abstract:We first give a method to get multidimensional Leja sequences by considering intertwining sequences from one-dimensional ones. An application is the existence of explicit Leja sequences for the closed unit polydisc. Next, we deal with some applications in bidimensional Lagrange interpolation with intertwining Leja sequences. These results also require an explicit formula for the associated fundamental Lagrange polynomials with uniform estimates.
What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The main problem that this paper attempts to solve is about the construction of multi - dimensional Leja sequences and their applications in bivariate Lagrange interpolation. Specifically, the paper mainly focuses on the following aspects:
1. **Construction of multi - dimensional Leja sequences**: The paper proposes a method to generate multi - dimensional Leja sequences by intertwining one - dimensional Leja sequences. This method enables the explicit construction of Leja sequences on the closed unit polydisk.
2. **Applications in bivariate Lagrange interpolation**: The paper explores the application of using intertwined Leja sequences for bivariate Lagrange interpolation. To achieve this, it is necessary to derive explicit formulas for the basis Lagrange polynomials related to these sequences and give uniform estimates.
3. **Estimation of Lebesgue constants**: The paper also studies the estimation of Lebesgue constants when using intertwined Leja sequences for Lagrange interpolation. For the case of the unit disk \( D^2 \) and other specific compact sets, specific upper - bound estimates of the Lebesgue constants are given.
### Specific problem description
- **Definition and properties of multi - dimensional Leja sequences**: The paper first reviews the definition and properties of one - dimensional Leja sequences and generalizes them to the multi - dimensional case on this basis. In particular, multi - dimensional Leja sequences can be constructed by intertwining multiple one - dimensional Leja sequences.
- Definition of one - dimensional Leja sequences:
\[
l^{(N + 1)}_k(z)=\prod_{\substack{j = 0\\j\neq k}}^N\frac{z-\eta_j}{\eta_k-\eta_j},\quad z\in\mathbb{C},\quad k = 0,\ldots,N
\]
- Definition of multi - dimensional Leja sequences:
\[
\eta_k(n)=(\eta^{(1)}_{k_1(n)},\ldots,\eta^{(s)}_{k_s(n)})
\]
where \( k(n)=(k_1(n),\ldots,k_s(n)) \) is determined by a certain numbering rule.
- **Applications in bivariate Lagrange interpolation**: The paper discusses in detail how to use intertwined Leja sequences for bivariate Lagrange interpolation and gives explicit formulas for the basis Lagrange polynomials.
- Formula for the basis Lagrange polynomial:
\[
l^{(N)}_{H_n}(z, w)=\frac{\text{VDM}(H_1, H_2,\ldots, H_{n - 1},(z, w), H_{n + 1},\ldots, H_N)}{\text{VDM}(\Omega_N)},\quad\forall(z, w)\in\mathbb{C}^2
\]
- **Estimation of Lebesgue constants**: The paper gives the estimation results of Lebesgue constants. In particular, for the unit disk \( D^2 \), the growth order of the Lebesgue constant is \( O(N^{3/2}) \).
- Definition of Lebesgue constants:
\[
\Lambda_N(K,\Omega_N)=\sup_{(z, w)\in K}\left[\sum_{n = 1}^N\left|l^{(N)}_{H_n}(z, w)\right|\right]
\]
### Summary
The main contribution of the paper lies in providing an effective method for constructing multi - dimensional Leja sequences, applying them to the bivariate Lagrange interpolation problem, and giving corresponding Lebesgue constant estimates at the same time. These results not only help to understand multi - dimensional interpolation problems, but also provide a theoretical basis for further research.
