Abstract:We show that for any Minkowski centered planar convex compact set $C$ the Harmonic mean of $C$ and $-C$ can be optimally contained in the arithmetic mean of the same sets if and only if the Minkowski asymmetry of $C$ is at most the golden ratio $(1+\sqrt{5})/2 \approx 1.618$. Moreover, the most asymmetric such set that is (up to a linear transformation) a special pentagon, which we call the golden house.

Abstract:Mathematics has a strong logical interconnection with structural design and architecture. Ratios are good examples of their interconnectivity. Nature is attractive due to the proper ratios of various components in them and between others. In nature, trees, forests, leaves, flowers, fruits, Himalayas, hills, valleys, springs, rivers, lakes, etc. show a rhythmic balance and seem harmonic and aesthetically pleasing. The golden ratio is considered the most pleasing to human visual sensation not limited only to aesthetic beauty but also found prominently in the natural world and is a fascinating topic. It can be constructed in different ways depending on the geometrical structures preferred. In this paper, our focus is on the geometry of the golden ratio.

Abstract:The golden ratio and Fibonacci numbers are found to occur in various aspects of nature. We discuss the occurrence of this ratio in an interesting physical problem concerning center of masses in two dimensions. The result is shown to be independent of the particular shape of the object. The approach taken extends naturally to higher dimensions. This leads to ratios similar to the golden ratio and generalization of the Fibonacci sequence. The hierarchy of these ratios with dimension and the limit as the dimension tends to infinity is discussed using the physical problem.

Abstract:In this paper, we prove that the Accola-Maclachlan surface of genus $g$ bounds geometrically an orientable compact hyperbolic $3$-manifold for every genus. For infinitely many genera, this is an explicit example of non-arithmetic surface that bounds geometrically a non-arithmetic manifold. We also provide explicit geodesic embeddings to the Wiman type II and Kulkarni surfaces of every genus, and prove that these surfaces bound geometrically a compact, orientable manifold for $g\equiv 1 \,( \text{mod} \, 2)$ or $g \equiv 3 \,( \text{mod} \, 8)$, respectively.

Abstract:We give a different presentation of a recent bijection due to Chapuy and Dolęga for nonorientable bipartite quadrangulations and we extend it to the case of nonorientable general maps. This can be seen as a Bouttier--Di Francesco--Guitter-like generalization of the Cori--Vauquelin--Schaeffer bijection in the context of general nonorientable surfaces. In the particular case of triangulations, the encoding objects take a particularly simple form and this allows us to recover a famous asymptotic enumeration formula found by Gao.

Abstract:Let ( M , g ) and be non-orientable Riemannian surfaces with fixed boundary and fixed Euler characterictic m , and and be their Dirichlet-to-Neumann maps, respectively. We prove that the closeness of to in the operator norm implies the existence of the near-conformal diffeomorphism between ( M , g ) and which does not move the points of . Thereby we establish the continuity of the determination , where [( M , g )] is the conformal class of ( M , g ) and the set of such conformal classes is endowed with the natural Teichmüller-type metric . In both orientable and non-orientable case we provide quantitative estimates of via the operator norm of the difference . We also obtain generalizations of the results above to the case in which the Dirichlet-to-Neumann map is given only on a segment of the boundary.

Abstract:We prove that in the moduli space of genus-g metric graphs the locus of graphs with gonality at most d has the classical dimension min{3g-3,2g+2d-5}. This follows from a careful parameter count to establish the upper bound and a construction of sufficiently many graphs with gonality at most d to establish the lower bound. Here, gonality is the minimal degree of a non-degenerate harmonic map to a tree that satisfies the Riemann-Hurwitz condition everywhere. Along the way, we establish a convenient combinatorial datum capturing such harmonic maps to trees.

Abstract:For a given pair of closed orientable surfaces Sh, Sg and given integers d1, d2, one would like to find bounds for the index of the Nielsen coincidence classes among all possible pairs of maps (f1,f2):Sh→Sg where |deg(f1)|=d1 and |deg(f2)|=d2. We show that these bounds are infinite when h>g=1, or when h⩾g>1 and both di<(h−1)/(g−1). We calculate these bounds when h=g and d2=1. We also consider the similar question for the root case, which is simpler, and we solve it completely. Few results are given when di=(h−1)/(g−1) for either i=1 or i=2.

Abstract:In this paper, we explore the triangulation of angles using the golden ratio and geometric compass principles. By dividing angles into three equal parts based on the golden ratio, we demonstrate a method for solving this geometric problem. Furthermore, we extend our exploration into the third dimension, where a geometric compass can effectively divide a two-dimensional angle into three equal parts. Additionally, our investigation delves into the realm of six-dimensional space-time, where we observe the simultaneous movement of two arms of the compasses based on the golden ratio to achieve the division of every angle into three equal parts. We emphasize the significance of the growth rate associated with the golden ratio in resolving complex mathematical and physical problems. This study provides valuable insights into the application of geometric principles and the golden ratio in solving challenging problems within mathematics and physics.

Abstract:For a simply connected open surface with nonnegative curvature, we prove that every geodesic γ: [0, + ∞)→Mgoes to infinity, its cut locus is just the same as its first con- jugate locus. But all above characters are not true for a manifold with dim≥3. We also dis- cuss the relation between the conjugate points and the geodesic, in an n-dimensional Rieman- nian manifold.

Abstract:We investigate the problem of when big mapping class groups are generated by involutions. Restricting our attention to the class of self-similar surfaces, which are surfaces with self-similar ends space, as defined by Mann and Rafi, and with 0 or infinite genus, we show that, when the set of maximal ends is infinite, then the mapping class groups of these surfaces are generated by involutions, normally generated by a single involution, and uniformly perfect. In fact, we derive this statement as a corollary of the corresponding statement for the homeomorphism groups of these surfaces. On the other hand, among self-similar surfaces with one maximal end, we produce infinitely many examples in which their big mapping class groups are neither perfect nor generated by torsion elements. These groups also do not have the automatic continuity property.

Abstract:In this paper, we find all constant slope surfaces in the Euclidean 3-space, namely those surfaces for which the position vector of a point of the surface makes constant angle with the normal at the surface in that point. These surfaces could be thought as the bi-dimensional analogue of the generalized helices. Some pictures are drawn by using the parametric equations we found.

Abstract:Consider an orientable compact surface in three dimensional Euclidean space with minimum total absolute curvature. If the Gaussian curvature changes sign to finite order and satisfies a nondegeneracy condition along closed asymptotic curves, we show that any other isometric surface differs by at most a Euclidean motion.

Abstract:The main aim of this paper is to study some properties of submanifolds in a Riemannian manifold equipped with a new structure of golden type, called the (α,p)-golden structure, which generalizes the almost golden structure (for α=1) and the almost complex golden structure (for α=−1). We present some characterizations of isometrically immersed submanifolds in an (α,p)-golden Riemannian manifold, especially in the case of the semi-invariant submanifolds, and we find some conditions for the integrability of the distributions.

Abstract:Suppose an orientation preserving action of a finite group $G$ on the closed surface $Sigma_g$ of genus $gu003e1$ extends over the 3-torus $T^3$ for some embedding $Sigma_gsubset T^3$. Then $|G|le 12(g-1)$, and this upper bound $12(g-1)$ can be achieved for $g=n^2+1, 3n^2+1, 2n^3+1, 4n^3+1, 8n^3+1, nin mathbb{Z}_+$. Those surfaces in $T^3$ realizing the maximum symmetries can be either unknotted or knotted. Similar problems in non-orientable category is also discussed. Connection with minimal surfaces in $T^3$ is addressed and when the maximum symmetric surfaces above can be realized by minimal surfaces is identified.

Abstract:In this work, we have abstractly generalized the similarity law for multidimensional vectors. Initially, the law of similarity was derived for one-dimensional vectors. Although it operated with such values of the ratio of parts of the whole, it meant linear dimensions (a line is one-dimensionality). The concept of the general golden ratio (GGR) for the vectors in the multidimensional space is described in detail with equations and solutions. It shown that the GGR depends on the angles. Main properties of the GGR are given with illustrative examples. We introduce and discuss the concept of the similar vectors and set of similarities for a given vector. Also, we present our vision on the theory of the golden ratio for triangles and describe with examples the similar triangles.

Abstract:For a compact orientable surface $\Sigma_{g,1}$ of genus $g$ with one boundary component and for an odd prime number $p$, we study the homology of the unordered configuration spaces $C_\bullet(\Sigma_{g,1}):=\coprod_{n\ge0}C_n(\Sigma_{g,1})$ with coefficients in $\mathbb{F}_p$. We describe $H_*(C_\bullet(\Sigma_{g,1});\mathbb{F}_p)$ as a bigraded module over the Pontryagin ring $H_*(C_\bullet(D);\mathbb{F}_p)$, where $D$ is a disc, and compute in particular the bigraded dimension over $\mathbb{F}_p$. We also consider the action of the mapping class group $\Gamma_{g,1}$, and prove that the mod-$p$ Johnson kernel $\mathcal{K}_{g,1}(p)\subseteq\Gamma_{g,1}$ is the kernel of the action on $H_*(C_\bullet(\Sigma_{g,1};\mathbb{F}_p))$.

Abstract:We show that every cross ratio preserving homeomorphism between boundaries of Hadamard manifolds extends to a map, called circumcenter extension, provided that the manifolds satisfy certain visibility conditions. We describe regions on which this map is Hölder-continuous. Furthermore, we show that this map is a rough isometry, whenever the manifolds admit cocompact group actions by isometries and we improve previously known quasi-isometry constants, provided by Biswas, in the case of 2-dimensional manifolds. Finally, we provide a sufficient condition for this map to be an isometry in the case of Hadamard surfaces.

Abstract:Let $\mathrm{Mod}(S_g)$ be the mapping class group of the closed orientable surface of genus $g \geq 2$. In this article, we derive necessary and sufficient conditions under which two torsion elements in $\mathrm{Mod}(S_g)$ will have conjugates that generate a finite symmetric or an alternating subgroup of $\mathrm{Mod}(S_g)$. Furthermore, we characterize when an involution would lift under the branched cover induced by an alternating action on $S_g$. Moreover, up to conjugacy, we derive conditions under which a given periodic mapping class is contained in a symmetric or an alternating subgroup of $\mathrm{Mod}(S_g)$. In particular, we show that symmetric or alternating subgroups can not contain irreducible mapping classes and hyperelliptic involutions. Finally, we classify the symmetric and alternating actions on $S_{10}$ and $S_{11}$ up to a certain equivalence we call weak conjugacy.
