Abstract:A lemniscate is a curve defined by two foci, F1 and F2. If the distance between the focal points of F1 - F2 is 2a (a: constant), then any point P on the lemniscate curve satisfy the equation PF1 PF2 = a^2. Jacob Bernoulli first described the lemniscate in 1694. The Fagnano discovered the double angle formula of the lemniscate(1718). The Euler extended the Fagnano's formula to a more general addition theorem(1751). The lemniscate function was subsequently proposed by Gauss around the year 1800. These insights are summarized by Jacobi as the theory of elliptic functions. A leaf function is an extended lemniscate function. Some formulas of leaf functions have been presented in previous papers; these included the addition theorem of this function and its application to nonlinear equations. In this paper, the geometrical properties of leaf functions at n = 2 and the geometric relation between the angle theta and lemniscate arc length l are presented using the lemniscate curve. The relationship between the leaf functions sleaf2(l) and cleaf2(l) is derived using the geometrical properties of the lemniscate, similarity of triangles, and the Pythagorean theorem. In the literature, the relation equation for sleaf2(l) and cleaf2(l) (or the lemniscate functions, sl(l) and cl(l)) has been derived analytically; however, it is not derived geometrically.

On the Shapes of Rational Lemniscates

Abstract:A rational lemniscate is a level set of $|r|$ where $r: \hat{\mathbb{C}} \rightarrow \hat{\mathbb{C}}$ is rational. We prove that any planar Euler graph can be approximated, in a strong sense, by a homeomorphic rational lemniscate. This generalizes Hilbert's lemniscate theorem; he proved that any Jordan curve can be approximated (in the same strong sense) by a polynomial lemniscate that is also a Jordan curve. As consequences, we obtain a sharp quantitative version of the classical Runge's theorem on rational approximation, and we give a new result on the approximation of planar continua by Julia sets of rational maps.

Abstract:It is known that the exponential transform of a quadrature domain is a rational function for which the denominator has a certain separable form. In the present paper we show that the exponential transform of lemniscate domains in general are not rational functions, of any form. Several examples are given to illustrate the general picture. The main tool used is that of polynomial and meromorphic resultants.

Abstract:Suppose that A1 is a class of analytic functions f:D={z∈C:|z|<1}→C with normalization f(0)=1. Consider two functions Pl(z)=1+z and ΦNe(z)=1+z−z3/3, which map the boundary of D to a cusp of lemniscate and to a twi-cusped kidney-shaped nephroid curve in the right half plane, respectively. In this article, we aim to construct functions f∈A0 for which (i) f(D)⊂Pl(D)∩ΦNe(D) (ii) f(D)⊂Pl(D), but f(D)⊄ΦNe(D) (iii) f(D)⊂ΦNe(D), but f(D)⊄Pl(D). We validate the results graphically and analytically. To prove the results analytically, we use the concept of subordination. In this process, we establish the connection lemniscate (and nephroid) domain and functions, including gα(z):=1+αz2, |α|≤1, the polynomial gα,β(z):=1+αz+βz3, α,β∈R, as well as Lerch's transcendent function, Incomplete gamma function, Bessel and Modified Bessel functions, and confluent and generalized hypergeometric functions.

Abstract:In this paper, the third in a series, we continue to study the generalized Lame equation H(n(0), n(1), n(2), n(3); B) with the Darboux-Treibich-Verdier potential y ''(z) = [Sigma(3)(k=0)nk (n(k) + 1) P(z +omega(k)/2 vertical bar + B] y(z), nk is an element of Z >= 0 and a related linear ODE with additional singularities +/- p from the monodromy aspect. We establish the uniqueness of these ODEs with respect to the global monodromy data. Surprisingly, our result shows that the Riemann-Hilbert correspondence from the set {H(n(0), n(1), n(2), n(3); B)vertical bar B is an element of C} boolean OR {H(n(0) + 2, n(1), n(2), n(3); B)vertical bar B is an element of C} to the set of group representations rho : pi(1)(E-tau) -> SL(2, C) is one-to-one. We emphasize that this result is not trivial at all. There is an example that for tau = 1/2 + i root 3/2, there are B-1, B-2 such that the monodromy representations of H(1, 0, 0, 0; B-1) and H(4, 0, 0, 0; B-2) are the same, namely the Riemann-Hilbert correspondence from the set {H(n(0), n(1), n(2), n(3); B)vertical bar B is an element of C} boolean OR {H(n(0) + 3, n(1), n(2), n(3); B)vertical bar B is an element of C} to the set of group representations is not necessarily one-to-one. This example shows that our result is completely different from the classical one concerning linear ODEs defined on CP1 with finite singularities.
Clunie lemma in several complex variables and application in PDEs

Abstract:Two purposes will be shown in this paper. The first one is to extend the classic Tumura-Clunie type theorem for meromorphic functions of one complex variable to meromorphic functions of several complex variables by using Clunie lemma. The second one is to characterize entire solutions of certain partial differential equations in $\mathbb{C}^{m}$. Our results are extensions and generalizations of the previous theorems by Liao-Ye \cite{Liao-Ye} and Li \cite{Li11}.

This allows us to find examples of regions for which we can calculate the projection of to the Bergman space of the bounded region. Such knowledge has applications to the calculation of torsional rigidity.

Abstract:For a non-constant complex rational function $P$, the lemniscate of $P$ is defined as the set of points $z\in \mathbb C$ such that $\vert P(z)\vert =1$. The lemniscate of $P$ coincides with the set of real points of the algebraic curve given by the equation $L_P(x,y)=0$, where $L_P(x,y)$ is the numerator of the rational function $P(x+iy)\overline{ P}(x-iy)-1.$ In this paper, we study the following two questions: under what conditions two lemniscates have a common component, and under what conditions the algebraic curve $L_P(x,y)=0$ is irreducible. In particular, we provide a sharp bound for the number of complex solutions of the system $\vert P_1(z)\vert =\vert P_2(z)\vert =1$, where $P_1$ and $P_2$ are rational functions.

Approximations of Functions With Essential Singularities with Applications to Painlevé's First Transcendent

Abstract:In this work we develop an algorithmic procedure for associating a function defined on the Riemann surface of the $\log$ to given asymptotic data from a function at an essential singularity. We do this by means of rational approximations (Padé approximants) used in tandem with Borel-Écalle summation. Our method is capable of handling situations where classical methods either do not work or converge very slowly eg. \cite{DunLutz}. We provide a general outline of the procedure and then apply it to generating approximate tritronquée solutions to Painlevé's first equation ($\text{P}_\text{I}$). Abstract:We consider Walsh's conformal map from the complement of a compact set $E = \cup_{j=1}^\ell E_j$ with $\ell$ components onto a lemniscatic domain $\widehat{\mathbb{C}} \setminus L$, where $L$ has the form $L = \{ w \in \mathbb{C} : \prod_{j=1}^\ell \lvert w - a_j \rvert^{m_j} \leq \operatorname{cap}(E) \}$. We prove that the exponents $m_j$ appearing in $L$ satisfy $m_j = \mu_E(E_j)$, where $\mu_E$ is the equilibrium measure of $E$. When $E$ is the union of $\ell$ real intervals, we derive a fast algorithm for computing the centers $a_1, \ldots, a_\ell$. For $\ell = 2$, the formulas for $m_1, m_2$ and $a_1, a_2$ are explicit. Moreover, we obtain the conformal map numerically. Our approach relies on the real and complex Green's functions of $\widehat{\mathbb{C}} \setminus E$ and $\widehat{\mathbb{C}} \setminus L$.

Abstract:The main purpose of this work is to study the third Hankel determinant for classes of Bernoulli lemniscate-related functions by introducing new subclasses of star-like functions represented by SLλ* and RLλ. In many geometric and physical applications of complex analysis, estimating sharp bounds for problems involving the coefficients of univalent functions is very important because these coefficients describe the fundamental properties of conformal maps. In the present study, we defined sharp bounds for function-coefficient problems belonging to the family of SLλ* and RLλ. Most of the computed bounds are sharp. This study will encourage further research on the sharp bounds of analytical functions related to new image domains.

Abstract:In this article, we derived conditions on the coefficient functions a(z) and b(z) of the differential equations y′′(z)+a(z)y′(z)+b(z)y(z)=0 and z2y′′(z)+a(z)zy′(z)+b(z)y(z)=0, such their solution f(z) with normalization f(0)=0=f′(0)−1 is starlike in the lemniscate domain, equivalently zf′(z)/f(z)≺1+z. We provide several examples with graphical presentations for a clear view of the obtained results.

Abstract:Abstract Fix constants $$\chi >0$$ χ > 0 and $$\theta \in [0,2\pi )$$ θ ∈ [ 0 , 2 π ) , and let h be an instance of the Gaussian free field on a planar domain. We study flow lines of the vector field $$e^{i(h/\chi +\theta )}$$ e i ( h / χ + θ ) starting at a fixed boundary point of the domain. Letting $$\theta $$ θ vary, one obtains a family of curves that look locally like $$\hbox {SLE}_\kappa $$ SLE κ processes with $$\kappa \in (0,4)$$ κ ∈ ( 0 , 4 ) (where $$\chi = \tfrac{2}{\sqrt{\kappa }} -\tfrac{ \sqrt{\kappa }}{2}$$ χ = 2 κ - κ 2 ), which we interpret as the rays of a random geometry with purely imaginary curvature. We extend the fundamental existence and uniqueness results about these paths to the case that the paths intersect the boundary. We also show that flow lines of different angles cross each other at most once but (in contrast to what happens when h is smooth) may bounce off of each other after crossing. Flow lines of the same angle started at different points merge into each other upon intersecting, forming a tree structure. We construct so-called counterflow lines ( $$\hbox {SLE}_{16/\kappa }$$ SLE 16 / κ ) within the same geometry using ordered “light cones” of points accessible by angle-restricted trajectories and develop a robust theory of flow and counterflow line interaction. The theory leads to new results about $$\hbox {SLE}$$ SLE . For example, we prove that $$\hbox {SLE}_\kappa (\rho )$$ SLE κ ( ρ ) processes are almost surely continuous random curves, even when they intersect the boundary, and establish Duplantier duality for general $$\hbox {SLE}_{16/\kappa }(\rho )$$ SLE 16 / κ ( ρ ) processes.

Generalization of Plemelj's Formula for Dini Continuous Functions

Abstract:The Riemann-Hilbert (RH) approach to problems is well known to be far reaching. It provides a robust framework that is amenable to solving integral equations, ODE, PDE and in fact the subject finds its origin in Riemann's PhD thesis. Its generalization concerning monodromy groups of Fuchsian systems is one of Hilbert's 23 problems, cf. arXiv:2003.14374v2 [math-ph]. In this paper we extend a basic result in scalar RH theory, the Plemelj formulae. Classically, this formula is derived under the assumption of the function being H\"older continuous on the boundary of a domain in $\mathbb{C}$. We weaken the assumption and show that the formulas remain valid in the more general class of Dini continuous functions. Furthermore, using foundational aspects of integral operators established in arXiv:1401.7045v2 [math.FA], we consider the necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of Cauchy ${\rm{P.V.}}$ integrals on which Plemelj's formulas rely.

Abstract:The Clausen function Cl-2(x) arises in several applications. A large number of indefinite integrals of logarithmic or trigonometric functions can be expressed in closed form in terms of Cl-2(x). The G-function introduced and systematically investigated by Barnes in about 1900, which was revived in the middle of the 1980s in connection with the study of the determinants of the Laplacians, also has several useful and widely-spread applications. Here, in this paper, we aim at presenting some interesting definite integral formulas by using a known relationship between the Clausen function Cl-2(x) and the Barnes G-function.

Abstract:Let -1\leq B<A\leq 1. Condition on \beta, is determined so that 1+\beta zp'(z)/p^k(z)\prec(1+Az)/(1+Bz)\;(-1<k\leq3) implies p(z)\prec \sqrt{1+z}. Similarly, condition on \beta is determined so that 1+\beta zp'(z)/p^n(z) or p(z)+\beta zp'(z)/p^n(z)\prec\sqrt{1+z}\;(n=0, 1, 2) implies p(z)\prec(1+Az)/(1+Bz) or \sqrt{1+z}. In addition to that condition on \beta is derived so that p(z)\prec(1+Az)/(1+Bz) when p(z)+\beta zp'(z)/p(z)\prec\sqrt{1+z}. Few more problems of the similar flavor are also considered.
