Abstract:In this manuscript, by using Belyi maps and dessin d'enfants, we construct some concrete examples of Strebel differentials with four double poles on the Riemann sphere. As an application, we could give some explicit cone spherical metrics on the Riemann sphere.

Abstract:The authors consider the problem of conformally deforming a metric such that the k-curvature defined by an elementary symmetric function of the eigenvalues of the Bakry-Emery Ricci tensor on a compact manifold with boundary to a prescribed function. A consequence of our main result is that there exists a complete metric such that the Monge-Ampère type equation with respect to its Bakry-Emery Ricci tensor is solvable, provided that the initial Bakry-Emery Ricci tensor belongs to a negative convex cone.

Abstract:In this paper, we reformulate the Euler-Lagrange equations of Willmore surfaces in S-n as the flatness of a family of certain loop algebra-valued 1-forms. Therefore we can give the Weierstrass type representation of conformal Willmore surfaces. We also discuss the relations between conformal Willmore surfaces in S-n and minimal surfaces in constant curvature spaces S-n, R-n, H-n, and prove that some special Willmore surfaces can be derived from minimal surfaces in S-n, R-n, H-n.
Conical Kähler–Einstein Metrics Revisited

Abstract:In this paper we introduce the “interpolation–degeneration” strategy to study Kähler–Einstein metrics on a smooth Fano manifold with cone singularities along a smooth divisor that is proportional to the anti-canonical divisor. By “interpolation” we show the angles in (0, 2π] that admit a conical Kähler–Einstein metric form a connected interval, and by “degeneration” we determine the boundary of the interval in some important cases. As a first application, we show that there exists a Kähler–Einstein metric on ${\mathbb{P}^2}$ with cone singularity along a smooth conic (degree 2) curve if and only if the angle is in (π/2, 2π]. When the angle is 2π/3 this proves the existence of a Sasaki–Einstein metric on the link of a three dimensional A 2 singularity, and thus answers a question posed by Gauntlett–Martelli–Sparks–Yau. As a second application we prove a version of Donaldson’s conjecture about conical Kähler–Einstein metrics in the toric case using Song–Wang’s recent existence result of toric invariant conical Kähler–Einstein metrics.

Abstract:We classify simply connected compact Sasaki manifolds of dimension 2n+1 with positive transverse bisectional curvature. In particular, the Kähler cone corresponding to such manifolds must be bi-holomorphic to Cn+1\{0}. As an application we recover the theorem of Mori and Siu–Yau on the Frankel conjecture and extend it to certain orbifold version. The main idea is to deform such Sasaki manifolds to the standard round sphere in two steps, both fixing the complex structure on the Kähler cone. First, we deform the metric along the Sasaki–Ricci flow and obtain a limit Sasaki–Ricci soliton with positive transverse bisectional curvature. Then by varying the Reeb vector field which essentially decreases the volume functional, we deform the Sasaki–Ricci soliton to a Sasaki–Einstein metric with positive transverse bisectional curvature, i.e. a round sphere. The second deformation is only possible when one treats simultaneously regular and irregular Sasaki manifolds, even if the manifold one starts with is regular (quasi-regular), i.e. Kähler manifolds (orbifolds).

Abstract:A closed string worldsheet of genus $g$ with $n$ punctures can be presented as a contact interaction in which $n$ semi-infinite cylinders are glued together in a specific way via the Strebel differential on it, if $n\geq1,\ 2g-2+n>0$. We construct a string field theory of closed strings such that all the Feynman diagrams are represented by such contact interactions. In order to do so, we define off-shell amplitudes in the underlying string theory using the combinatorial Fenchel-Nielsen coordinates to describe the moduli space and derive a recursion relation satisfied by them. Utilizing the Fokker-Planck formalism, we construct a string field theory from which the recursion relation can be deduced through the Schwinger-Dyson equation. The Fokker-Planck Hamiltonian consists of kinetic terms and three string interaction terms.

Abstract:We detail a numerical algorithm and related code to construct rational quadratic differentials on the Riemann sphere that satisfy the Boutroux condition. These differentials, in special cases, provide solutions of (generalized) Chebotarov problem as well as being instances of Jenkins--Strebel differentials. The algorithm allows to construct Boutroux differentials with prescribed polar part, thus being useful in the theory of weighted capacity and Random Matrices.

Existence and non-uniqueness of cone spherical metrics with prescribed singularities on a compact Riemann surface with positive genus

Abstract:Cone spherical metrics, defined on compact Riemann surfaces, are conformal metrics with constant curvature one and finitely many cone singularities. Such a metric is termed \textit{reducible} if a developing map of the metric has monodromy in ${\rm U(1)}$, and \textit{irreducible} otherwise. Utilizing the polystable extensions of two line bundles on a compact Riemann surface $X$ with genus $g_X>0$, we establish the following three primary results concerning these metrics with cone angles in $2\pi{\mathbb Z}_{>1}$: \begin{itemize} \item[(1)] Given an effective divisor $D$ with an odd degree surpassing $2g_X$ on $X$, we find the existence of an effective divisor $D'$ in the complete linear system $|D|$ that can be represented by at least two distinct irreducible cone spherical metrics on $X$. \item[(2)] For a generic effective divisor $D$ with an even degree and $°D\geq 6g_X-2$ on $X$, we can identify an arcwise connected Borel subset in $|D|$ that demonstrates a Hausdorff dimension of no less than $\big(°D-4g_{X}+2\big)$. Within this subset, each divisor $D'$ can be distinctly represented by a family of reducible metrics, defined by a single real parameter. \item[(3)] For an effective divisor $D$ with $°D=2$ on an elliptic curve, we can identify a Borel subset in $|D|$ that is arcwise connected, showcasing a Hausdorff dimension of one. Within this subset, each divisor $D'$ can be distinctly represented by a family of reducible metrics, defined by a single real parameter.

Some remarks on equilateral triangulations of surfaces and Belyi functions

Abstract:In this paper, following Grothendieck {\it Esquisse d'un programme}, which was motivated by Belyi's work, we study some properties of surfaces $X$ which are triangulated by (possibly ideal) isometric equilateral triangles of one of the spherical, euclidean or hyperbolic geometries. These surfaces have a natural Riemannian metric with conic singularities. In the euclidean case we analyze the closed geodesics and their lengths. Such surfaces can be given the structure of a Riemann surface which, considered as algebraic curves, are defined over $\bar{\mathbb{Q}}$ by a theorem of Belyi. They have been studied by many authors of course. Here we define the notion of connected sum of two Belyi functions and give some concrete examples. In the particular case when $X$ is a torus, the triangulation leads to an elliptic curve and we define the notion of a "peel" obtained from the triangulation (which is a metaphor of an orange peel) and relate this peel with the modulus $\tau$ of the elliptic curve. Many fascinating questions arise regarding the modularity of the elliptic curve and the geometric aspects of the Taniyama-Shimura-Weil theory.

Abstract:We present new explicit tight and overtwisted contact structures on the (round) 3-sphere and the (flat) 3-torus for which the ambient metric is weakly compatible. Our proofs are based on the construction of nonvanishing curl eigenfields using suitable families of Jacobi or trigonometric polynomials. As a consequence, we show that the contact sphere theorem of Etnyre, Komendarczyk and Massot (2012) does not hold for weakly compatible metric as it was conjectured. We also establish a geometric rigidity for tight contact structures by showing that any contact form on the 3-sphere admitting a compatible metric that is the round one is isometric, up to a constant factor, to the standard (tight) contact form.

Abstract:We establish a correspondence on a Riemann surface between hyperbolic metrics with isolated singularities and bounded projective functions whose Schwarzian derivatives have at most double poles and whose monodromies lie in ${\rm PSU}(1,\,1)$. As an application, we construct explicitly a new class of hyperbolic metrics with countably many singularities on the unit disc.

Abstract:On any oriented surface, the affine sphere construction gives a one-to-one correspondence between convex $mathbb{RP}^2$-structures and holomorphic cubic differentials. Generalizing results of Benoist–Hulin, Loftin and Dumas–Wolf, we show that poles of order less than $3$ of cubic differentials correspond to finite-volume ends of convex $mathbb{RP}^2$-surfaces, whereas poles of order $3$ and greater than $3$ correspond to geodesic and piecewise geodesic ends, respectively. Moreover, at each pole of order at least $3$, we construct a natural bordification of the surface such that the $mathbb{RP}^2$-structure extends to the boundary circle in a metric preserving way.

Abstract:The weak geometric P=W conjecture of L. Katzarkov, A. Noll, P. Pandit, and C. Simpson states that, a smooth Betti moduli space of complex dimension $d$ over a punctured Riemann surface has the dual boundary complex homotopy equivalent to a sphere of dimension $d-1$. Via a microlocal geometric perspective, we verify this conjecture for a class of rank $n$ wild character varieties over the two-sphere with one puncture, associated with any Stokes Legendrian link defined by an $n$-strand positive braid.

Abstract:Recent work on the zero temperature phases and phase transitions of strongly random electronic system is reviewed. The transition between the spin glass and quantum paramagnet is examined, for both metallic and insulating systems. Insight gained from the solution of infinite range models leads to a quantum field theory for the transition between a metallic quantum paramagnetic and a metallic spin glass. The finite temperature phase diagram is described and crossover functions are computed in mean field theory. A study of fluctuations about mean field leads to the formulation of scaling hypotheses.

A non-trivial family of trivial bundles with complex hyperbolic structure

Abstract:In $\mathrm{PU}(2,1)$, the group of holomorphic isometries of the complex hyperbolic plane, we study the space of involutions $R_1, R_2, R_3, R_4, R_5$ satisfying $R_5R_4R_3R_2R_1=1$, where $R_1$ is a reflection in a complex geodesic and the other $R_i$'s are reflections in points of the complex hyperbolic plane. We show that this space modulo $\mathrm{PU}(2,1)$-conjugation is bending-connected and has dimension $4$. Using this, we construct a $4$-dimensional bending-connected family of complex hyperbolic structures on a disc orbibundle with vanishing Euler number over the sphere with $5$ cone points of angle $\pi$. Bending-connectedness here means that we can naturally deform the geometric structure, like Dehn twists in Teichmüller theory. Additionally, finding complex hyperbolic disc orbibundles with vanishing Euler number is a hard problem, originally conjectured by W. Goldman and Y. Eliashberg and solved by S. Anan'in and N. Gusevskii, and we produce a simpler and more straightforward construction for them.

Epstein Surfaces, $W$-Volume, and the Osgood-Stowe Differential

Abstract:In a seminal paper, Epstein introduced the theory of what are now called Epstein surfaces, which construct surfaces in $\mathbb{H}^3$ associated to a conformal metric on a domain in $\hat{\mathbb{C}}$. More recently, these surfaces have been used by Krasnov-Schlenker to define the W-volume and renormalized volume associated with a convex co-compact hyperbolic 3-manifold. In this paper we consider Epstein surfaces, W-volume and renormalized volume in two main parts. In the first, we develop an alternate construction of Epstein surfaces using the Osgood-Stowe differential, a generalization of the Schwarzian derivative. Krasnov-Schlenker showed that the metric and shape operator of a surface in hyperbolic space is naturally dual to a conformal metric and shape operator on a projective structure via the hyperbolic Gauss map. We show that this projective shape operator can be derived from the Osgood-Stowe differential. This approach allows us to give a comprehensive and self-contained development of Epstein surfaces, W-volume, and renormalized volume. In the second part, we use the theory developed in the first to prove a number of new results including a generalization of Epstein's univalence criterion, a variational formula for W-volume in terms of the Osgood-Stowe differential, and a use of W-volume to relate the length of the bending lamination of the convex core to the norm of the Schwarzian derivative of the associated univalent map on the conformal boundary.

Abstract:For a geodesic ball with non-negative Ricci curvature and almost maximal volume, without using compactness argument, we construct an ϵ -splitting map on a concentric geodesic ball with uniformly small radius. There are two new technical points in our proof. The first one is the way of finding n directional points by induction and stratified almost Gou–Gu Theorem. The other one is the error estimates of projections, which guarantee the n directional points we find really determine n different directions.
Elliptic Stable Envelopes for Certain Non-Symplectic Varieties and Dynamical $R$-Matrices for Superspin Chains from the Bethe/Gauge Correspondence

Abstract:We generalize Aganagic-Okounkov's theory of elliptic stable envelopes, and its physical realization in Dedushenko-Nekrasov's and Bullimore-Zhang's works, to certain varieties without holomorphic symplectic structure or polarization. These classes of varieties include, in particular, classical Higgs branches of 3d $\mathcal N=2$ quiver gauge theories. The Bethe/gauge correspondence relates such a gauge theory to an anisotropic/elliptic superspin chain, and the stable envelopes compute the $R$-matrix that solves the dynamical Yang-Baxter equation (dYBE) for this spin chain. As an illustrative example, we solve the dYBE for the elliptic $\mathfrak{sl}(1|1)$ spin chain with fundamental representations using the corresponding 3d $\mathcal N=2$ SQCD whose classical Higgs branch is the Lascoux resolution of a determinantal variety. Certain Janus partition functions of this theory on $I \times \mathbb E$ for an interval $I$ and an elliptic curve $\mathbb E$ compute the elliptic stable envelopes, and in turn the geometric elliptic $R$-matrix, of the anisotropic $\mathfrak{sl}(1|1)$ spin chain. Furthermore, we consider the 2d and 1d reductions of elliptic stable envelopes and the $R$-matrix. The reduction to 2d gives the K-theoretic stable envelopes and the trigonometric $R$-matrix, and a further reduction to 1d produces the cohomological stable envelopes and the rational $R$-matrix. The latter recovers Rimányi-Rozansky's results that appeared recently in the mathematical literature.

Abstract:The Gauss-Bonnet Formula is a significant achievement in 19th century differential geometry for the case of surfaces and the 20th century cumulative work of H. Hopf, W. Fenchel, C. B. Allendoerfer, A. Weil and S.S. Chern for higher-dimensional Riemannian manifolds. It relates the Euler characteristic of a Riemannian manifold to a curvature integral over the manifold plus a somewhat enigmatic boundary term. In this paper, we revisit the formula using the formalism of double forms, a tool introduced by de Rham, and further developed by Kulkarni, Thorpe, and Gray. We explore the geometric nature of the boundary term and provide some examples and applications.
Constructions of symplectic forms on 4-manifolds

Abstract:Given a symplectic 4-manifold $(X,\omega)$ with rational symplectic form, Auroux constructed branched coverings to $(CP^2,\omega_{FS})$. By modifying a previous construction of Lambert-Cole--Meier--Starkston, we prove that the branch locus in $CP^2$ can be assumed holomorphic in a neighborhood of the spine of the standard trisection of $CP^2$. Consequently, the symplectic 4-manifold $(X,\omega)$ admits a cohomologous symplectic form that is Kähler in a neighborhood of the 2-skeleton of $X$. We define the Picard group of holomorphic line bundles over the holomorphic 2-skeleton. We then investigate Hodge theory and apply harmonic spinors to construct holomorphic sections over the Kähler subset.

Filtered Stokes G-local Systems in Nonabelian Hodge Theory on Curves

Abstract:In the wild nonabelian Hodge correspondence on curves, filtered Stokes G-local systems are regarded as the objects on the Betti side. In this paper, we demonstrate a construction of the moduli space of them, called the Betti moduli space, and it reduces to the wild character variety when the Betti weights are trivial. We study some particular examples including Eguch-Hanson space and the Airy equation together with the corresponding moduli spaces. Furthermore, we provide a proof of the correspondence among irregular singular G-connections, Stokes G-local systems, and Stokes G-representations. This correspondence can be viewed as the G-version of irregular Rieman-Hilbert correspondence on curves.
