Abstract:For each integer m>1 and l>0 we construct a pair of compact embedded minimal surfaces of genus 1+4m(m-1)l. These surfaces desingularize the m Clifford tori meeting each other along a great circle at the angle of \pi/m. They are invariant under a finite group of screw motions and have no reflection symmetry across a great sphere.

Abstract:The purpose of this article is three-fold. First, we apply a general theorem from our earlier work to produce many new minimal doublings of the Clifford Torus in the round three-sphere. This construction generalizes and unifies prior doubling constructions for the Clifford Torus, producing doublings with catenoidal bridges arranged along parallel copies of torus knots. Ketover has also constructed similar minimal surfaces by min-max methods as suggested by Pitts-Rubinstein, but his methods apply only to surfaces which are lifts of genus two surfaces in lens spaces, while ours are not constrained this way. Second, we use this family to prove a new, quadratic lower bound for the number of embedded minimal surfaces in $\mathbb{S}^3$ with prescribed genus. This improves upon bounds recently given by Ketover and Karpukhin-Kusner-McGrath-Stern, and contributes to a question of Yau about the structure of the space of minimal surfaces in $\mathbb{S}^3$ with fixed genus. Third, we verify Yau's conjecture for the first eigenvalue of minimal surfaces in $\mathbb{S}^3$ in the following cases. First, for all minimal surface doublings of the equatorial two-sphere constructible by our earlier general theorem. Second, for all the Clifford Torus doublings constructed in this article.

Global Pinching Theorems for Minimal Submanifolds in a Complex Projective Space

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate the compact minimal submanifold M-n(n >= 3) in the complex projective space CPn+p/2 (1). Denote by S the square norm of the second fundamental form. Set, (S) over tilde = S + 1/2 vertical bar t vertical bar(2) and epsilon = inf(M)vertical bar P vertical bar(2) , where P, t are the tensors defined in (2.1) below. We first, prove such that if parallel to S parallel to(n/2) < alpha 1 (n, epsilon) for epsilon > 0, then M is a totally geodesic submanifold CPn/2. Moreover, we prove if parallel to(S) over tilde parallel to(n/2) < alpha 3(n), where alpha 3(n) is an explicit positive constant depending only on n, then M is a totally geodesic submanifold CPn/2. We also prove other global pinching theorems for minimal submanifolds in the complex projective space.

Abstract:Using the Lawson's existence theorem of minimal surfaces and the symmetries of the Hopf fibration, we will construct symmetric embedded closed minimal surfaces in the three dimensional sphere. These surfaces contain the Clifford torus, the Lawson's minimal surfaces, and seven new minimal surfaces with genera 9, 25, 49, 121, 121, 361 and 841. We will also discuss the relation between such surfaces and the maximal extendable group actions on subsurfaces of the three dimensional sphere.

Abstract:Our goal is to generalize the Choe-Hoppe helicoid and Clifford cones in Euclidean space. By sweeping out $L$ indpendent Clifford cones in ${\mathbb{R}}^{2N+2}$ via the multi-screw motion, we construct minimal submanifolds in ${\mathbb{R}}^{L(2N+2)+1}$. Also, we sweep out the $L$-rays Clifford cone (introduced in Section 2.3) in ${\mathbb{R}}^{L(2N+2)}$ to construct minimal submanifolds in ${\mathbb{R}}^{L(2N+2)+1}$. Our minimal submanifolds unify various interesting examples: Choe-Hoppe's helicoid of codimension one, cone over Lawson's ruled minimal surfaces in ${\mathbb{S}}^{3}$, Barbosa-Dajczer-Jorge's ruled submanifolds, and Harvey-Lawson's volume-minimizing twisted normal cone over the Clifford torus.

On embedded minimal hypersurfaces in $S^{n+1}$ with symmetries

Abstract: In this note, we generalize a characterization of the Clifford torus due to Ros. Let $f:M\rightarrow S^{n+1}$ be an embedded closed minimal hypersurface. Assume there are $(n+2)$ great hyperspheres of $S^{n+1}$ perpendicular to each other, such that $M$ is symmetric with respect to them. Let $S$ denote the square of the length of the second fundamental form of $f$ and let $\bar S=\frac{1}{Vol(M)}\int_{M} Sd M$ be the average of $S$. Then $\bar S\geq n$ with equality holding if and only if $f$ is the Clifford torus $C_{m,n-m}$. It can be rewritten as a Simons' type theorem: If $0\leq \int_M (n-S)d M$, then either $S\equiv0$ or $S\equiv n$. This answers partially a conjecture by Perdomo. Moreover, the estimate of the Willmore energy of $f$ is built: $W(M)\geq n^{\frac{n}{2}}Vol(M)$.

Abstract:Stable compact minimal submanifolds of the product of a sphere and any Riemannian manifold are classified whenever the dimension of the sphere is at least three. The complete classification of the stable compact minimal submanifolds of the product of two spheres is obtained. Also, it is proved that the only stable compact minimal surfaces of the product of a 2-sphere and any Riemann surface are the complex ones.

Abstract:The Clifford 2-torus in and the equlaterial 2-torus in are known as the only minimal immersions of 2-tori into spheres by the first eigenfunctions (called -minimal for short). For , the Clifford n -torus in might be the only known example of -minimal n -tori in the literature. By discussing the general construction of homogeneous minimal flat n -tori in spheres, we construct several new examples of -minimal flat 3-tori and 4-tori. In particular, the existence of 2-parameter family of non-congruent -minimal flat 4-tori is shown for the first time. We obtain the complete classification for -minimal immersions of conformally flat 3-tori and 4-tori in spheres, by some detailed investigations of shortest vectors in lattices, which could be of independent interests. Using them, we also solve the Berger's problem (finding the maximal value of the dilation-invariant functional ) among all flat 3-tori and 4-tori.

Abstract:In this paper, we obtain several new characterizations of the Clifford torus as a Lagrangian self-shrinker. We first show that the Clifford torus ${\mathbb {S}}^1(1)\times {\mathbb {S}}^1(1)$ is the unique compact orientable Lagrangian self-shrinker in ${\mathbb {C}}^2$ with $|A|^2\le 2$, which gives an affirmative answer to Castro–Lerma’s conjecture in Castro and Lerma (Int Math Res Not 6:1515–1527; 2014). We also prove that the Clifford torus is the unique compact orientable embedded Lagrangian self-shrinker with nonnegative or nonpositive Gauss curvature in ${\mathbb {C}}^2$.

Abstract:This paper exhibits a structural strategy to produce new minimal submanifolds in spheres based on two given ones. The method is to spin the given minimal submanifolds by a curve $\gamma\subset \mathbb S^3$ in a balanced way and leads to resulting minimal submanifolds $-$ spiral minimal products, which form a two-dimensional family arising from intriguing pendulum phenomena decided by $C$ and $\tilde C$. With $C=0$, we generalize the construction of minimal tori in $\mathbb S^3$ explained in [Bre13] to higher dimensional situations. When $C=-1$, we recapture previous relative work in [CLU06] and [HK12] for special Legendrian submanifolds in spheres, and moreover, can gain numerous $\mathscr C$-totally real and totally real embedded minimal submanifolds in spheres and in complex projective spaces respectively. A key ingredient of the paper is to apply a beautiful extension result of minimal submanifolds by Harvey and Lawson [HL75] for a rotational reflection principle in our situation to establish curve $\gamma$.

Abstract:Let Mn be a compact hypersurface with constant mean curvature H in Sn+1. Denote by S the squared norm of the second fundamental form of M. We prove that there exists an explicit positive constant γ(n) depending only on n such that if |H|≤γ(n) and β(n,H)≤S≤β(n,H)+n23, then S≡β(n,H) and M is one of the following cases: (i) Sk(kn)×Sn−k(n−kn), 1≤k≤n−1; (ii) S1(11+μ2)×Sn−1(μ1+μ2). Here β(n,H)=n+n32(n−1)H2+n(n−2)2(n−1)n2H4+4(n−1)H2 and μ=n|H|+n2H2+4(n−1)2. For n∈{6,12,24}, we give examples to show that the assumption |H|≤γ(n) cannot be removed.
New low-genus desingularizations of three Clifford tori and related characterizations

Abstract:For each nonnegative integer $m$ we construct in the round three-sphere a closed embedded minimal surface of genus $48m+25$ which can be interpreted as a desingularization of the union of three Clifford tori intersecting pairwise orthogonally, along a total of six great circles. Each such surface is generated, under the action of a group of symmetries, by a disc with hexagonal boundary, all of whose sides are contained in great circles. We prove a uniqueness result for this disc, and, as a corollary, we characterize these surfaces. This characterization implies that similar surfaces we constructed for sufficiently high $m$ by gluing methods, in an earlier article, coincide with the ones here. For low $m$ the surfaces constructed here are new. Similarly, we prove uniqueness of the generating discs for one of two families constructed by Choe and Soret (namely the surfaces they call odd) and show that these surfaces also coincide, when of sufficiently high genus, with surfaces we have constructed by gluing.

Abstract:We verify that if $M$ is a compact minimal hypersurface in $mathbb{S}^{n+1}$ whose squared length of the second fundamental form satisfying $0leq |A|^2-nleqfrac{n}{22}$, then $|A|^2equiv n$ and $M$ is a Clifford torus. Moreover, we prove that if $M$ is a complete self-shrinker with polynomial volume growth in $mathbb{R}^{n+1}$ whose equation is given by (ref{selfshr}), and if the squared length of the second fundamental form of $M$ satisfies $0leq|A|^2-1leqfrac{1}{21}$, then $|A|^2equiv1$ and $M$ is a round sphere or a cylinder. Our results improve the rigidity theorems due to Q. Ding and Y. L. Xin cite{DX1,DX2}.

Abstract:We give a new method for manufacturing complete minimal submanifolds of compact Lie groups and their homogeneous quotient spaces. For this we make use of harmonic morphisms and basic representation theory of Lie groups. We then apply our method to construct many examples of compact minimal submanifolds of the special unitary groups.

Abstract:A new proof of a theorem that describes $(\lambda, \mu)$-eigenfunctions on sphere is obtained. This proof is based on a statement that a function $f$ is a $(\lambda, \mu)$-eigenfunction if and only if $f$ and $f^2$ are eigenfunctions for Laplace-Beltrami operator. Also, minimal submanifolds in spheres of codimension 1 are constructed. In the case of $\mathbb{S}^3$ two immersions of Clifford torus and all Lawson $\tau_{n, m}$ surfaces are described in terms of $(\lambda, \mu)$-eigenfunctions.

Abstract:We investigated minimal helix submanifolds of any dimension and codimension immersed in Euclidean space. Our main result proves that a ruled minimal helix submanifold is a cylinder. As an application we classify complex helix submanifolds of Cn$${\mathbb {C}}^n$$: They are extrinsic products with a complex line as a factor. The key tool is Corollary 1.3 which allows us to classify Riemannian foliations of open subsets of the Euclidean space with minimal leaves. Finally, we consider the case of a helix hypersurface with constant mean curvature and prove that it is either a cylinder or an open part of a hyperplane.
