Abstract:We prove an iteration theorem which guarantees for a wide class of nice iterations of $\omega_1$-preserving forcings that $\omega_1$ is not collapse, at the price of needing large cardinals to burn as fuel. More precisely, we show that a nice iteration of $\omega_1$-preserving forcings which force SRP at successor steps and preserves old stationary sets does not collapse $\omega_1$.

Abstract:We study methods to obtain the consistency of forcing axioms, and particularly higher forcing axioms. We first force over a model with a supercompact cardinal $\theta>\kappa$ to get the consistency of the forcing axiom for $\kappa$-strongly proper forcing notions which are also $\kappa$-lattice, and then eliminate the need for large cardinals. The proof goes through a natural reflection property for $\kappa$-strongly proper forcings. We also produce a model of this forcing axiom with $2^\kappa$ arbitrarily large, and prove the inconsistency of certain natural strengthenings of the axiom.

A general theory of iterated forcing using finitely additive measures

Abstract:Based on the work of Shelah, Kellner, and Tănasie (Fund. Math., 166(1-2):109-136, 2000 and Comment. Math. Univ. Carolin., 60(1):61-95, 2019), and the recent developments in the third author's master's thesis, we develop a general theory of iterated forcing using finitely additive measures. For this purpose, we introduce two new notions: on the one hand, we define a new linkedness property, called $\mu$-$\mathrm{FAM}$-linked and, on the other hand, we generalize the notion of intersection number to forcing notions, which justifies the limit steps of our iteration theory. Our theory also generalizes iterations with ultrafilters, which have played an important role in the proof of the consistency of Cichoń's maximum. We further show that any iteration constructed with our general theory preserves strong unbounded families and what we call \emph{anti-Bendixson families}, which play a central role in preserving witnesses of $\mathrm{cov}(\mathcal{N})$ of singular size (even of countable cofinality). Finally, we apply our theory to prove the consistency of a new separation of the left-hand side of Cichoń's diagram where $\mathrm{cov}(\mathcal{N})$ is possibly singular, even with countable cofinality.

Abstract:For a relational structure ${\mathbb X}$ we investigate the partial order $\langle {\mathbb P} ({\mathbb X}) ,\subset \rangle$, where ${\mathbb P} ({\mathbb X}):=\{ f[X]: f\in \mathop{\rm Emb}\nolimits ({\mathbb X})\}$. Here we consider uncountable ordinals. Since $\mathop{\rm sq}\nolimits {\mathbb P} (\alpha )$ is isomorphic to the direct product $\prod _{i=1}^n (\mathop{\rm sq}\nolimits {\mathbb P} (\omega ^{\delta _i}))^{s_i}$, where $\alpha = \omega ^{\delta _n}s_n+\dots +\omega ^{\delta _1}s_1+ m$ is the Cantor normal form for $\alpha $, the analysis is reduced to the investigation of the posets of the form ${\mathbb P} (\omega ^{\delta })$. It turns out that, in ZFC, either the poset $\mathop{\rm sq}\nolimits {\mathbb P} (\alpha )$ is $\sigma$-closed and completely embeds $P(\omega )/\mathop{\rm Fin}$ and, hence, preserves $\omega _1$ and forces $|{\mathfrak c}|=|{\mathfrak h}|$, or, otherwise, completely embeds the algebra $P(\lambda )/[\lambda ]^{<\lambda }$, for some regular $\omega <\lambda \leq \mathop{\rm cf}\nolimits (\delta )$, and collapses $\omega _2$ to $\omega $. Abstract:We define forcing orders which add witnesses to the failure of various forms of Friedman's Property. These posets behave similarly to the forcing order adding a nonreflecting stationary set but have the advantage of allowing the construction of master conditions and thus the preservation of various large cardinal properties. We apply these new techniques to separate various instances of variants of Friedman's Problem, both between different instances at one cardinal as well as equal instances at different cardinals and en passant obtain some new results regarding the differences between ${<}\,\kappa$- and $\kappa$-strategic closure.

Abstract:We consider $(<\lambda)$-support iterations of $(<\lambda)$-strategically complete $\lambda^+$-c.c. definable forcing notions along partial orders. We show that such iterations can be corrected to yield an analog of a result by Judah and Shelah for finite support iterations of Suslin ccc forcing, namely that if $(\mathbb{P}_{\alpha}, \underset{\sim}{\mathbb Q_{\beta}} : \alpha \leq \delta, \beta <\delta)$ is a FS iteration of Suslin ccc forcing and $U\subseteq \delta$ is sufficiently closed, then letting $\mathbb{P}_U$ be the iteration along $U$, we have $\mathbb{P}_U \lessdot \mathbb{P}_{\delta}$.

Abstract:Based on works of Saharon Shelah, Jakob Kellner, and Anda Tănasie for controlling the cardinal characteristics of the continuum in ccc forcing extensions, in the author's master's thesis was introduced a new combinatorial notion: the intersection number for forcing notions, which was used in such thesis to build a general theory of iterated forcing using finitely additive measures. In this paper, we present the definition of such a notion and prove some of its fundamental properties in detail. Additionally, we introduce a new linkedness property called $\mu$-intersection-linked, prove some of its basic properties, and provide some interesting examples.

Abstract:We prove in a unifying way several equivalent descriptions of Koszul rings, some of which being well known in the literature. Most of them are stated in terms of coring theoretical properties of $\Tor_n^A(R,R)$. As an application of these characterizations we investigate the Koszulity of the incidence rings for finite graded posets. Based on these results, we describe an algorithm to produce new classes of Koszul posets (i.e. graded posets whose incidence rings are Koszul). Specific examples of Koszul posets are included.

Abstract:We introduce a forcing technique to construct three-dimensional arrays of generic extensions through FS (finite support) iterations of ccc posets, which we refer to as 3D-coherent systems. We use them to produce models of new constellations in Cichoń's diagram, in particular, a model where the diagram can be separated into 7 different values. Furthermore, we show that this constellation of 7 values is consistent with the existence of a $\Delta^1_3$ well-order of the reals.

Abstract:Suppose $\kappa$ is a singular strong limit cardinal of countable cofinality and let $\langle \kappa_{n}: n<\omega \rangle$ be an incrasing sequence of regular cardinals cofinal in $\kappa$. We show that if $cf(2^\kappa)= \kappa^+$, then forcing with the full product $\prod_{n<\omega}Add(\kappa_n,1)$ collapses $2^\kappa$ into $\kappa^+$. This result gives a consistent positive answer to a question of Sy Friedman. We also give a new proof of a result due to Shelah by showing that if the sequence carries a scale of length $\kappa^+,$ then forcing with $\prod_{n<\omega}Add(\kappa_n,1)$ adds a generic filter for $Add(\kappa^+, 1)$, and indeed \[ \prod_{n<\omega}Add(\kappa_n,1)/fin \simeq Add(\kappa^+, 1). \]

Abstract:In this article, we study the iteration of Cox rings of klt singularities (and Fano varieties) from a topological perspective. Given a klt singularity (X,Δ;x) , we define the iteration of Cox rings of (X,Δ;x) . The first result of this article is that the iteration of Cox rings Cox(k)(X,Δ;x) of a klt singularity stabilizes for k large enough. The second result is a boundedness one, we prove that for an n ‐dimensional klt singularity (X,Δ;x) , the iteration of Cox rings stabilizes for k⩾c(n) , where c(n) only depends on n . Then, we use Cox rings to establish the existence of a simply connected factorial canonical (or scfc) cover of a klt singularity, with general fiber being an extension of a finite group by an algebraic torus. The scfc cover generalizes both the universal cover and the iteration of Cox rings. We prove that the scfc cover dominates any sequence of quasi‐étale finite covers and reductive abelian quasi‐torsors of the singularity. We characterize when the iteration of Cox rings is smooth and when the scfc cover is smooth. We also characterize when the spectrum of the iteration coincides with the scfc cover. Finally, we give a complete description of the regional fundamental group, the iteration of Cox rings, and the scfc cover of klt singularities of complexity one. Analogous versions of all our theorems are also proved for Fano‐type morphisms. To extend the results to this setting, we show that the Jordan property holds for the regional fundamental group of Fano‐type morphisms.

In fact, assuming $GCH$ holds and $\kappa\geq\omega_2$ is a regular cardinal, we prove that there is a proper and $\aleph_2$-c.c.\ forcing $\mathbb{P}$ giving rise to a model of this forcing axiom together with $2^{\aleph_0}=\kappa$ and which, in addition, satisfies all statements of the form $\mathcal{H}(\aleph_2)\models \forall x\exists y\varphi(x, y)$, where $\varphi(x, y)$ is a restricted formula with the property that for every $a\in \mathcal{H}(\aleph_2)$ and every inner model $M$ of $CH$ with $a\in M$ there is, in $M$, a suitably nice proper poset adding some $b$ such that $\varphi(a, b)$. In particular, $\mathbb{P}$ forces Moore's Measuring principle, Baumgartner's Axiom for $\aleph_1$-dense sets of reals, Todorčević's Open Colouring Axiom for sets of size $\aleph_1$, and Todorěvić's P-ideal Dichotomy for $\aleph_1$-generated ideals on $\omega_1$, among other statements. In particular, all these statements are simultaneously compatible with a large continuum.

Abstract:In this paper, we explore combinatorial properties of the posets associated with Kohnert polynomials. In particular, we determine a sufficient condition guaranteeing when such ``Kohnert posets'' are bounded and two necessary conditions for when they are ranked. Moreover, we apply the aforementioned conditions to find complete characterizations of when Kohnert posets are bounded and when they are ranked in special cases, including those associated with Demazure characters.
