Abstract:Abstract In this work, we estimate the sum over the nontrivial zeros of the Riemann zeta function where is a complex number with and and are Dirichlet polynomials. Moreover, we estimate the discrete mean value above for higher derivatives where is replaced by for all . The formulae we obtain generalize a number of previous results in the literature. Abstract:We show that a nonvanishing analytic function on a domain in the unit disc can be approximated by (a scalar multiple of) a Blaschke product whose zeros lie on a prescribed circle enclosing the domain. We also give a new proof of the analogous classical result for polynomials. A connection is made to universality results for the Riemann zeta function.

Abstract:We present an explicit formula for a weighted sum over the zeros of the Riemann zeta function. This weighted sum is evaluated in terms of a sum over the prime numbers, weighted with help of the Hermite polynomials. From the explicit formula presented in this note, it follows that prime numbers determine the distribution of the zeros of the Riemann zeta function. In fact, it is possible to compute the zeros of the zeta function without actually using this function.

Abstract:The main result of the paper is a definition of possible ways of the confirmation of the Riemann hypothesis based on the properties of the vector system of the second approximate equation of the Riemann Zeta function. The paper uses a feature of calculating the Riemann Zeta function in the critical strip, where its approximate value is determined by partial sums of the Dirichlet series, which it is given. These expressions are called the first and second approximate equation of the Riemann Zeta function. The representation of the terms of the Dirichlet series by vectors allows us when analyzing the polyline formed by these vectors: 1) explain the geometric meaning of the generalized summation of the Dirichlet series in the critical strip; 2) obtain formula for calculating the Riemann Zeta function; 3) obtain the functional equation of the Riemann Zeta function based on the geometric properties of vectors forming the polyline; 4) explain the geometric meaning of the second approximate equation of the Riemann Zeta function; 5) obtain the vector equation of non-trivial zeros of the Riemann Zeta function; 6) determine why the Riemann Zeta function has non-trivial zeros on the critical line; 7) understand why the Riemann Zeta function cannot have non-trivial zeros in the critical strip other than the critical line.

Abstract:We study zero-free regions of the Riemann zeta function $\zeta$ related to an approximation problem in the weighted Dirichlet space $D_{-2}$ which is known to be equivalent to the Riemann Hypothesis since the work of Báez-Duarte. We prove, indeed, that analogous approximation problems for the standard weighted Dirichlet spaces $D_{\alpha}$ when $\alpha \in (-3,-2)$ give conditions so that the half-plane $\{s \in \mathbb{C}: \Re (s) > -\frac{\alpha+1}{2}\}$ is also zero-free for $\zeta$. Moreover, we extend such results to a large family of weighted spaces of analytic functions $\ell^p_{\alpha}$. As a particular instance, in the limit case $p=1$ and $\alpha=-2$, we provide a new equivalent formulation of the Prime Number Theorem.

Non-zero values of a family of approximations of a class of L-functions

Abstract:Motivated by the approximate functional equation, consider the approximation $\zeta_N(s) = \sum_{n=1}^N n^{-s} + \chi(s) \sum_{n=1}^N n^{1-s}$ of the Riemann zeta function. It has been previously shown that $\zeta_N(s)$ has 100\% of its zeros lie on the critical line, and that $a$-values of $\zeta_N(s)$ cluster arbitrarily close to the critical line. In this paper, we show that, despite the above, 0\% of a-values actually lie on the critical line itself. We also extend our results to a wider class of $L$-functions.

Abstract:In this article, we extend the result of Conrey [5, Theorem 2] to shorter intervals for higher-order derivatives of the zeta function. That is we study the mean value of the product of two finite order derivatives of the zeta function multiplied by a mollifier in short intervals. In this process, we obtain better mollifier length in some short intervals compared to the length of mollifier implied by Conrey's result. These finer studies allow us to refine the error term of some classical results of Levinson and Montgomery [13], Ki and Lee [11] on zero density estimates of $\zeta^{(k)}$.

Abstract:The zeros of D'Arcais polynomials, also known as Nekrasov--Okounkov polynomials, dictate the vanishing of the Fourier coefficients of powers of the Dedekind functions. These polynomials satisfy difference equations of hereditary type with non-constant coefficients. We relate the D'Arcais polynomials to polynomials satisying a Volterra difference equation of convolution type. We obtain results on the transfer of the location of the zeros. As an application, we obtain an identity between Chebyshev polynomials of the second kind and $1$-associated Laguerre polynomials. We obtain a new version of the Lehmer conjecture and bounds for the zeros of the Hermite polynomials.

Abstract:In these lectures we first review the important properties of the Riemann $\zeta$-function that are necessary to understand the nature and importance of the Riemann hypothesis (RH). In particular this first part describes the analytic continuation, the functional equation, trivial zeros, the Euler product formula, Riemann's main result relating the zeros on the critical strip to the distribution of primes, the exact counting formula for the number of zeros on the strip $N(T)$, and the GUE statistics of the zeros on the critical line. We then turn to presenting some new results obtained in the past year and describe several strategies towards proving the RH. First we describe an electrostatic analogy and argue that if the electric potential along the line $\Re (z) =1$ is a regular alternating function, the RH would follow. The main new result is that the zeros on the critical line are in one-to-one correspondence with the zeros of the cosine function, and this leads to a transcendental equation for the $n$-th zero on the critical line that depends only on $n$. If there is a unique solution to this equation for every $n$, denoting $N_0 (T)$ the number of zeros on the critical line, then $N_0(T) = N(T)$, i.e. all zeros are on the critical line. These results are generalized to two infinite classes of functions, Dirichlet $L$-functions and $L$-functions based on modular forms. We present extensive numerical analysis of the solutions of these equations. We apply these methods to the Davenport-Heilbronn $L$-function, which is known to have zeros off of the line, and explain why the RH fails in this case. We also present a new approximation to the $\zeta$-function that is analogous to the Stirling approximation to the $\Gamma$-function. In this updated version we added references to subsequent publications that made progress on open questions posed in the previous version from 10 years ago.

Abstract:We estimate the number of zeros of a polynomial in $\mathbb{C}[z]$ within any small circular disc centered on the unit circle, which improves and comprehensively extends a result established by Borwein, Erd{é}lyi, and Littmann~\cite{BE1} in 2008. Furthermore, by combining this result with Euclidean geometry, we derive an upper bound on the number of zeros of such a polynomial within a region resembling a gear wheel. Additionally, we obtain a sharp upper bound on the annular discrepancy of such zeros near the unit circle. Our approach builds upon a modified version of the method described in \cite{BE1}, combined with the refined version of the best-known upper bound for angular discrepancy of zeros of polynomials.

Abstract:In this note we investigate connections between zero density estimates for the Riemann zeta function and large value estimates for Dirichlet polynomials. It is well known that estimates of the latter type imply estimates of the former type. Our goal is to show that there is an implication to the other direction as well, i.e. zero density estimates for the Riemann zeta function imply large value estimates for Dirichlet polynomials.

Abstract:We prove new bounds for how often Dirichlet polynomials can take large values. This gives improved estimates for a Dirichlet polynomial of length $N$ taking values of size close to $N^{3/4}$, which is the critical situation for several estimates in analytic number theory connected to prime numbers and the Riemann zeta function. As a consequence, we deduce a zero density estimate $N(\sigma,T)\le T^{30(1-\sigma)/13+o(1)}$ and asymptotics for primes in short intervals of length $x^{17/30+o(1)}$.

Zeros of Ramanujan-type Polynomials

Abstract:Ramanujan's notebooks contain many elegant identities and one of the celebrated identities is a formula for $\zeta(2k+1)$. In 1972, Grosswald gave an extension of the Ramanujan's formula for $\zeta(2k+1)$, which contains a polynomial of degree $2k+2$. This polynomial is now well-known as the Ramanujan polynomial$R_{2k+1}(z)$, first studied by Gun, Murty, and Rath. Around the same time, Murty, Smith and Wang proved that all the non-real zeros of $R_{2k+1}(z)$ lie on the unit circle. Recently, Chourasiya, Jamal, and the first author found a new polynomial while obtaining a Ramanujan-type formula for Dirichlet $L$-functions and named it as Ramanujan-type polynomial $R_{2k+1,p}(z)$. In the same paper, they conjectured that all the non-real zeros of $R_{2k+1,p}(z)$ lie on the circle $|z|=1/p$. The main goal of this paper is to present a proof of this conjecture.

Abstract:We prove an upper bound on the density of zeros very close to the critical line of the family of Dirichlet L‐functions of modulus q at height T. To do this, we derive an asymptotic for the twisted second moment of Dirichlet L‐functions uniformly in q and t. As a second application of the asymptotic formula, we prove that, for every integer q, at least 38.2% of zeros of the primitive Dirichlet L‐functions of modulus q lie on the critical line.

Abstract:The efficacy of numerical methods like integral estimates via Gaussian quadrature formulas depends on the localization of the zeros of the associated family of orthogonal polynomials. In this regard, following the renewed interest in quadrature formulas on the unit circle, and $R_{II}$-type polynomials, which include the complementary Romanovski-Routh polynomials, in this work we present a collection of properties of their zeros. Our results include extreme bounds, convexity, and density, alongside the connection of such polynomials to classical orthogonal polynomials via asymptotic formulas.

Abstract:Determining the exact number of primes at large magnitudes is computationally intensive, making approximation methods (e.g., the logarithmic integral, prime number theorem, Riemann zeta function, Chebyshev's estimates, etc.) particularly valuable. These methods also offer avenues for number-theoretic exploration through analytical manipulation. In this work, we introduce a novel approximation function, φ(n), which adds to the existing repertoire of approximation methods and provides a fresh perspective for number-theoretic studies. Deeper analytical investigation of φ(n) reveals modified representations of the Chebyshev function, prime number theorem, and Riemann zeta function. Computational studies indicate that the difference between φ(n) and the logarithmic integral at magnitudes greater than 10100 is less than 1%.
