Abstract:In this paper, we study the smallest gaps for the Gaussian symplectic ensemble (GSE). We prove that the rescaled smallest gaps and their locations converge to a Poisson point process with an explicit rate. The approach provides an alternative proof for the GOE case and complements the results in \cite{FTW}. By combining the main results from \cite{BB, FTW, FW2}, the study of the smallest gaps for the classical random matrix ensembles C$\beta$E and G$\beta$E for $\beta = 1, 2,$ and $4$ is now complete.

Abstract:In this article, we study the smallest gaps of the circular beta-ensemble (C beta E) on the unit circle, where beta is any positive integer. The main result is that the smallest gaps, after being normalized by n(beta+2/beta+1), will converge in distribution to a Poisson point process with some explicit intensity. And thus one can derive the limiting density of the kth smallest gap, which is proportional to x(k(beta+1)-1)e(-x beta+1). In particular, the results apply to the classical COE, CUE and CSE in random matrix theory. The essential part of the proof is to derive several identities and inequalities regarding the Selberg integral, which should have their own interest.

Abstract:In this paper, we address a class of problems in unitary ensembles. Specifically, we study the probability that a gap symmetric about 0, i.e. (−a,a) is found in the Gaussian unitary ensembles (GUE) and the Jacobi unitary ensembles (JUE) (where in the JUE, we take the parameters α=β). By exploiting the even parity of the weight, a doubling of the interval to (a2,∞) for the GUE, and (a2,1), for the (symmetric) JUE, shows that the gap probabilities maybe determined as the product of the smallest eigenvalue distributions of the LUE with parameter α=−1/2, and α=1/2 and the (shifted) JUE with weights x1/2(1−x)β and x−1/2(1−x)β. The σ function, namely, the derivative of the log of the smallest eigenvalue distributions of the finite-n LUE or the JUE, satisfies the Jimbo–Miwa–Okamoto σ form of PV and PVI, although in the shift Jacobi case, with the weight xα(1−x)β, the β parameter does not show up in the equation. We also obtain the asymptotic expansions for the smallest eigenvalue distributions of the Laguerre unitary and Jacobi unitary ensembles after appropriate double scalings, and obtained the constants in the asymptotic expansion of the gap probabilities, expressed in term of the Barnes G-function valuated at special point.
Strong convergence for tensor GUE random matrices

Abstract:Haagerup and Thorbjørnsen proved that iid GUEs converge strongly to free semicircular elements as the dimension grows to infinity. Motivated by considerations from quantum physics -- in particular, understanding nearest neighbor interactions in quantum spin systems -- we consider iid GUE acting on multipartite state spaces, with a mixing component on some sites and identity on the remaining sites. We show that under proper assumptions on the dimension of the sites, strong asymptotic freeness still holds. Our proof relies on an interpolation technology recently introduced by Bandeira, Boedihardjo and van Handel.

Abstract:In this article, we study the smallest gaps between eigenvalues of the Gaussian orthogonal ensemble (GOE). The main result is that the smallest gaps, after being normalized by n, will converge to a Poisson distribution, and the limiting density of the kth normalized smallest gap is $2{}x^{2k-1}e^{-x^{2}}/(k-1)!$. The proof is based on the method developed in Feng and Wei (Small gaps of circular $\beta $-ensemble. <a href="http://arxiv.org/abs/1806.01555">arXiv:1806.01555</a>). We need to prove the convergence of the factorial moments of the smallest gaps, which makes use of the Pfaffian structure of GOE and some comparison results between the one-component log-gas and the two-component log-gas.

Abstract: Let $\mathcal{M}_{g,n(g)}$ be the moduli space of hyperbolic surfaces of genus $g$ with $n(g)$ punctures endowed with the Weil-Petersson metric. In this paper we study the asymptotic behavior of the Cheeger constants and spectral gaps of random hyperbolic surfaces in $\mathcal{M}_{g,n(g)}$, when $n(g)$ grows slower than $g$ as $g\to \infty$.

Abstract:A family of random matrix ensembles interpolating between the GUE and the Ginibre ensemble of $n\times n$ matrices with iid centered complex Gaussian entries is considered. The asymptotic spectral distribution in these models is uniform in an ellipse in the complex plane, which collapses to an interval of the real line as the degree of non-Hermiticity diminishes. Scaling limit theorems are proven for the eigenvalue point process at the rightmost edge of the spectrum, and it is shown that a non-trivial transition occurs between Poisson and Airy point process statistics when the ratio of the axes of the supporting ellipse is of order $n^{-1/3}$. In this regime, the family of limiting probability distributions of the maximum of the real parts of the eigenvalues interpolates between the Gumbel and Tracy-Widom distributions.

Abstract:In this paper we study, $\textsf{Prob}(n,a,b),$ the probability that all the eigenvalues of finite $n$ unitary ensembles lie in the interval $(a,b)$. This is identical to the probability that the largest eigenvalue is less than $b$ and the smallest eigenvalue is greater than $a$. It is shown that a quantity allied to $\textsf{Prob}(n,a,b)$, namely, $$ H_n(a,b):=\left[\frac{\partial}{\partial a}+\frac{\partial}{\partial b}\right]\ln\textsf{Prob}(n,a,b),$$ in the Gaussian Unitary Ensemble (GUE) and $$ H_n(a,b):=\left[a\frac{\partial}{\partial a}+b\frac{\partial}{\partial b}\right]\ln \textsf{Prob}(n,a,b),$$ in the Laguerre Unitary Ensemble (LUE) satisfy certain nonlinear partial differential equations for fixed $n$, interpreting $H_n(a,b)$ as a function of $a$ and $b$. These partial differential equations maybe considered as two variable generalizations of a Painlevé IV and a Painlevé V system, respectively. As an application of our result, we give an analytic proof that the extreme eigenvalues of the GUE and the LUE, when suitably centered and scaled, are asymptotically independent.

Abstract:We study asymptotic infinitesimal distributions of Gaussian Unitary Ensembles with permuted entries. We show that for random uniform permutations, the asymptotically permuted GUE matrix has a null infinitesimal distribution. Moreover, we show that asymptotically different permutations of the same GUE matrix are infinitesimally free. Besides this we study particular example of entry permutation - the transpose, and we show that while a GUE matrix is asymptotically free from its transpose it is not infinitesimally free from it.

Abstract:We prove that the spectral radius of a large random matrix $X$ with independent, identically distributed complex entries follows the Gumbel law irrespective of the distribution of the matrix elements. This solves a long-standing conjecture of Bordenave and Chafa{\"ı} and it establishes the first universality result for one of the most prominent extremal spectral statistics in random matrix theory. Furthermore, we also prove that the argument of the largest eigenvalue is uniform on the unit circle and that the extremal eigenvalues of $X$ form a Poisson point process.

Repeated erfc statistics for deformed GinUEs

Abstract:For an additive perturbation of the complex Ginibre ensemble under a deterministic matrix $X_0$, under certain assumption on $X_0$, we observe that there are only two kinds of local statistical patterns at the spectral edge: GinUE statistics and critical statistics, which corresponds to regular or quadratic vanishing spectral points. As a continuation of our previous study on critical statistics "Critical edge statistics for deformed GinUEs"(arXiv: 2311.13227), in this paper we establish the local statistics of GinUE type at the regular spectral edge, which is characterized by a repeated erfc integral found in "Phase transition of eigenvalues in deformed Ginibre ensembles"(arXiv: 2204.13171v2).

Abstract:We obtain correction terms to the large N asymptotic expansions of the eigenvalue density for the Gaussian unitary and Laguerre unitary ensembles of random N×N matrices, both in the bulk of the spectrum and near the spectral edge. This is achieved by using the well known orthogonal polynomial expression for the kernel to construct a double contour integral representation for the density, to which we apply the saddle point method. The main correction to the bulk density is oscillatory in N and depends on the distribution function of the limiting density, while the corrections to the Airy kernel at the soft edge are again expressed in terms of the Airy function and its first derivative. We demonstrate numerically that these expansions are very accurate. A matching is exhibited between the asymptotic expansion of the bulk density, expanded about the edge, and the asymptotic expansion of the edge density, expanded into the bulk.

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate two types of the conditional strong law of large numbers with a new notion of conditionally independent random variables under G-expectation which are related to the symmetry G-function. Our limit theorem demonstrates that the cluster points of empirical averages fall within the bounds of the lower and upper conditional expectations with lower probability one. Moreover, for conditionally independent random variables with identical conditional distributions, we show the existence of two cluster points of empirical averages that correspond to the essential minimum and essential maximum expectations, respectively, with G-capacity one.

Abstract:It has been shown by Akemann, Ipsen and Kieburg that the squared singular values of products of $M$ rectangular random matrices with independent complex Gaussian entries are distributed according to a determinantal point process with a correlation kernel that admits a representation in terms of Meijer G-functions. We prove the universality of the local statistics of the squared singular values, namely, the bulk universality given by the sine kernel and the edge universality given by the Airy kernel. The proof is based on the asymptotic analysis for the double contour integral representation of the correlation kernel. Our strategy can be generalized to deal with other models of products of random matrices introduced recently and to establish similar universal results. Two more examples are investigated, one is the product of $M$ Ginibre matrices and the inverse of $K$ Ginibre matrices studied by Forrester, and the other one is the product of $M-1$ Ginibre matrices with one truncated unitary matrix considered by Kuijlaars and Stivigny.

Abstract:We consider large non-Hermitian real or complex random matrices $X$ with independent, identically distributed centred entries. We prove that their local eigenvalue statistics near the spectral edge, the unit circle, coincide with those of the Ginibre ensemble, i.e. when the matrix elements of $X$ are Gaussian. This result is the non-Hermitian counterpart of the universality of the Tracy-Widom distribution at the spectral edges of the Wigner ensemble.

Abstract:We analyse the limiting behavior of the eigenvalue and singular value distribution for random convolution operators on large (not necessarily Abelian) groups, extending the results by M. Meckes for the Abelian case. We show that for regular sequences of groups the limiting distribution of eigenvalues (resp. singular values) is a mixture of eigenvalue (resp. singular value) distributions of Ginibre matrices with the directing measure being related to the limiting behavior of the Plancherel measure of the sequence of groups. In particular for the sequence of symmetric groups, the limiting distributions are just the circular and quarter circular laws, whereas e.g. for the dihedral groups the limiting distributions have unbounded supports but are different than in the Abelian case. We also prove that under additional assumptions on the sequence of groups (in particular for symmetric groups of increasing order) families of stochastically independent random projection operators converge in moments to free circular elements. Finally, in the Gaussian case we provide Central Limit Theorems for linear eigenvalue statistics.
