Abstract:In four and higher dimensions, we show that any stationary admissibleYang-Mills field can be gauge transformed to a smooth field if the L^2 normof the curvature is sufficiently small. There are three main ingredients. Thefirst is Price's monotonicity formula, which allows us to assert that thecurvature is small not only in the L^2 norm, but also in the Morrey normM_2^n/2. The second ingredient is a new inductive (averaged radial) gaugeconstruction and truncation argument which allows us to approximate a singulargauge as a weak limit of smooth gauges with curvature small in the Morrey norm.The second ingredient is variant of Uhlenbeck's lemma, allowing one to place asmooth connection into the Coulomb gauge whenever the Morrey norm of thecurvature is small; This variant was also proved independently by Meyer andRiviere. It follows easily from this variant that a W^1,2-connection can beplaced in the Coulomb gauge if it can be approximated by smooth connectionswhose curvatures have small Morrey norm.
Isolated singularities of 3-dimensional Yang-Mills-Higgs fields

Abstract:In this paper, we derive decay estimates near isolated singularities of 3-dimensional (3d) Yang-Mills-Higgs fields defined on a fiber bundle, where the fiber space is a compact Riemannian manifold and the structure group is a connected compact Lie group. As an application, we obtain removable singularity theorems for 3d Yang-Mills-Higgs fields under different types of energy conditions, which generalizes classical removable singularity theorems for 3d Yang-Mills fields~\cite{S84,SS84} and 3d harmonic maps~\cite{L85}.

Removable singularity of (-1)-homogeneous solutions of stationary Navier-Stokes equations

Abstract:We study the removable singularity problem for $(-1)$-homogeneous solutions of the three-dimensional incompressible stationary Navier-Stokes equations with singular rays. We prove that any local $(-1)$-homogeneous solution $u$ near a potential singular ray from the origin, which passes through a point $P$ on the unit sphere $\mathbb{S}^2$, can be smoothly extended across $P$ on $\mathbb{S}^2$, provided that $u=o(\ln \text{dist} (x, P))$ on $\mathbb{S}^2$. The result is optimal in the sense that for any $\alpha>0$, there exists a local $(-1)$-homogeneous solution near $P$ on $\mathbb{S}^2$, such that $\lim_{x\in \mathbb{S}^2, x\to P}|u(x)|/\ln |x'|=-\alpha$. Furthermore, we discuss the behavior of isolated singularities of $(-1)$-homogeneous solutions and provide examples from the literature that exhibit varying behaviors. We also present an existence result of solutions with any finite number of singular points located anywhere on $\mathbb{S}^2$.

Abstract:We study qualitative properties of positive singular solutions to a two-coupled elliptic system with critical exponents. This system is related to coupled nonlinear Schrödinger equations with critical exponents for nonlinear optics and Bose-Einstein condensates. We prove a sharp result on the removability of the same isolated singularity for both two components of the solutions. We also prove the nonexistence of positive solutions with one component bounded near the singularity and the other component unbounded near the singularity. These results will be applied in a subsequent work where the same system in a punctured ball will be studied.

Abstract:The Yang-Mills functional over a Riemann surface is studied from the point of view of Morse theory. The main result is that this is a ‘perfect' functional provided due account is taken of its gauge symmetry. This enables topological conclusions to be drawn about the critical sets and leads eventually to information about the moduli space of algebraic bundles over the Riemann surface. This in turn depends on the interplay between the holomorphic and unitary structures, which is analysed in detail.

Abstract:Hartle and Hawking have shown that, except for the case of only point monopoles as sources, both the Majumdar-Papapetrou and the Perjés-Israel-Wilson solutions have naked singularities if the space is asymptotically flat. In this article, by using the method of introducing interior solutions, these naked singularities are erased.

Abstract:We consider the Einstein/Yang-Mills equations in 3 + 1 space time dimensions with SU(2) gauge group and prove rigorously the existence of a globally defined smooth static solution. We show that the associated Einstein metric is asymptotically flat and the total mass is finite. Thus, for non-abelian gauge fields the Yang/Mills repulsive force can balance the gravitational attractive force and prevent the formation of singularities in spacetime.

Abstract:We solve the Landau equations to find the singularities of nine three-loop 7-point graphs that arise as relaxations of the graph studied in [22]. Along the way we establish that Y − ∆ equivalence fails for certain branches of solutions to the Landau equations. We find two graphs with singularities outside the heptagon symbol alphabet; in particular they are not cluster variables of Gr(4, 7). We compare maximal residues of scalar graphs exhibiting these singularities to those in = 4 super-Yang-Mills theory in order to probe their cancellation from its amplitudes.

Abstract:The existence and uniqueness of canonical singular solutions of the J-equation and the deformed Hermitian Yang Mills (dHYM) equation was proved in \cite{DMS24} on compact Kähler surfaces. In this paper, we study the singularity formation of the dHYM cotangent flow on the one-point blow up of $\mathbb{C}\mathbb{P}^3$ using Calabi ansatz. In particular, we provide an explicit example where the flow develops a singularity along the exceptional divisor. Moreover, the limit satisfies corresponding singular dHYM equation in the sense of \cite{DMS24} and provides some evidence for Conjecture $1.12$ in \cite{DMS24} on this three-dimensional manifold with symmetry.

Abstract:In these notes we discuss some aspects of 2D Yang-Mills theory and its relation to invariants of knots in circle bundle over surfaces. We show how it is related to the quantization of the algebra of functions on the moduli space flat bundles over a surface. An easy proof is given that the partition function of the YM2 with Wilson loops can be regarded as tile integral of a function over the moduli space of flat bundles over surface with respect to the symplectic volume form. It is also shown that there is an interesting relation between YM2 and invariants of plain curves, in particular with Arnold's J(+)-invariant.

Abstract:In this paper we study (static) solutions of the rank 2 Yang-Mills-Higgs equations on the Riemann sphere, with concical singularities, that bifurcate from constant curvature connections. We focus attention on the case where there are exactly four such singularities. This study brings together ideas from the gauge theory of constant curvature connections on vector bundles over singular Riemann surfaces with the Riemann-Hilbert analysis of classical Fuchsian ODEs.

Abstract:Modern Physics Letters A, Ahead of Print. Modeling the worldsheets along the trajectory (a string) of a point particle (a 0-brane) as two timelike surfaces in 3-subspace of Minkowskian spacetime, respectively, the work aims at analyzing the topological structures of these two worldsheets along the trajectory of the point particle from the view point of singularity theory. Different from the regular curves, the traveling trajectory (modeled as framed timelike curve) of the particle is allowed to be singular, two worldsheets are generated by the traveling trajectories of the particle. As applications of singularity theory, we classify the singularities of these two worldsheets along the traveling trajectory of the particle. Using the approach of the unfolding theory in singularity theory, we find two new geometric invariants which are useful for characterizing the local topological structures of singularities of these two worldsheets along the particle. It is revealed that there exist cuspidal edge type and swallowtail type of singularities for these two worldsheets under the appropriate conditions of geometric invariants. Meanwhile, it is also pointed out that the types of singularities of these two worldsheets have a close relationships to the order of contacts between these two worldsheets and two timelike planes, respectively. Finally, some examples are presented to interpret our theoretical results.

On constant solutions of SU(2) Yang-Mills-Dirac equations

Abstract:For the first time, a complete classification of all constant solutions of the Yang-Mills-Dirac equations with SU(2) gauge symmetry in Minkowski space ${\mathbb R}^{1,3}$ is given. The explicit form of all solutions is presented. We use the method of hyperbolic singular value decomposition of real and complex matrices and the two-sheeted covering of the group SO(3) by the group SU(2). In the degenerate case of zero potential, we use the pseudo-unitary symmetry of the Dirac equation. Nonconstant solutions can be considered in the form of series of perturbation theory using constant solutions as a zeroth approximation; the equations for the first approximation in the expansion are written.

Abstract:We consider Lorentzian correlators of local operators. In perturbation theory, singularities occur when we can draw a position-space Landau diagram with null lines. In theories with gravity duals, we can also draw Landau diagrams in the bulk. We argue that certain singularities can arise only from bulk diagrams, not from boundary diagrams. As has been previously observed, these singularities are a clear diagnostic of bulk locality. We analyze some properties of these perturbative singularities and discuss their relation to the OPE and the dimensions of double-trace operators. In the exact nonperturbative theory, we expect no singularity at these locations. We prove this statement in 1+1 dimensions by CFT methods.

Abstract:We show removability of half-line singularities for viscosity solutions of fully nonlinear elliptic PDEs which have classical density and a Jacobi inequality. An example of such a PDE is the Monge-Ampère equation, and the original proof follows from Caffarelli 1990. Other examples are the minimal surface and special Lagrangian equations. The present paper's quick doubling proof combines Savin's small perturbation theorem with the Jacobi inequality. The method more generally removes singularities satisfying the single side condition.
