Abstract:In this paper, we establish a large deviation principle for 2D stochastic Chemotaxis-Navier-Stokes equation perturbed by a small multiplicative noise. The main difficulties come from the lack of a suitable compact embedding into the space occupied by the solutions and the inherent complexity of equation. Finite dimensional projection arguments and introducing suitable stopping times play important roles.

Abstract:This paper proves a large deviation principle for the stochastic quasigeostrophic equation with multiplicative noise. The proof is based on the Laplace principle and on weak convergence methods. We also give a rigorous mathematical result on the existence of a strong solution and uniqueness of mild solutions to the stochastic quasigeostrophic equation in the dimension d=2,3. Finally, large deviations for short time are considered.

Abstract:This paper is concerned with the large deviation principle of the stochastic reaction-diffusion lattice systems defined on the N-dimensional integer set, where the nonlinear drift term is locally Lipschitz continuous with polynomial growth of any degree and the nonlinear diffusion term is locally Lipschitz continuous with linear growth. We first prove the convergence of the solutions of the controlled stochastic lattice systems, and then establish the large deviations by the weak convergence method based on the equivalence of the large deviation principle and the Laplace principle.

Abstract:This work focus on the large deviation principle for a two-time scale McKean-Vlasov system with jumps. Based on the variational framework of the McKean-Vlasov system with jumps, it is turned into weak convergence for the controlled system. Unlike general two-time scale system, the controlled McKean-Vlasov system is related to the law of the original system, which causes difficulties in qualitative analysis. In solving this problem, employing asymptotics of the original system and a Khasminskii-type averaging principle together is efficient. Finally, it is shown that the limit is related to the Dirac measure of the solution to the ordinary differential equation.

Abstract:We construct Langevin equations describing the fluctuations of the tensor order parameter Q(alphabeta) in nematic liquid crystals by adding noise terms to time-dependent variational equations that follow from the Ginzburg-Landau-de Gennes free energy. The noise is required to preserve the symmetry and tracelessness of the tensor order parameter and must satisfy a fluctuation-dissipation relation at thermal equilibrium. We construct a noise with these properties in a basis of symmetric traceless matrices and show that the Langevin equations can be solved numerically in this basis using a stochastic version of the method of lines. The numerical method is validated by comparing equilibrium probability distributions, structure factors, and dynamic correlations obtained from these numerical solutions with analytic predictions. We demonstrate excellent agreement between numerics and theory. This methodology can be applied to the study of phenomena where fluctuations in both the magnitude and direction of nematic order are important, as for instance, in the nematic swarms which produce enhanced opalescence near the isotropic-nematic transition or the problem of nucleation of the nematic from the isotropic phase.

Abstract:This paper first proves the existence of a unique mild solution to the stochastic derivative Ginzburg–Landau equation. The fixed point theorem for the corresponding truncated equation is used as the main tool. Since we restrict our study to the one-dimensional case, it is not necessary to introduce another Banach space and thus the estimates of the stochastic convolutions in the Banach space are avoided. Secondly, we also consider large deviations for the stochastic derivative Ginzburg–Landau equation perturbed by a small noise. Since the underlying space considered is Polish, using the weak convergence approach, we establish a large deviations principle by proving a Laplace principle.

Abstract:In this work we establish a Freidlin-Wentzell type large deviation principle for stochastic nonlinear Schrödinger equation, with either focusing or defocusing nonlinearity, driven by nonlinear multiplicative Lévy noise in the Marcus canonical form. This task is challenging in the current setting due to the presence of the power-type nonlinear term, the lack of regularization effect of the Schrödinger operator and the absence of compactness of embeddings. To overcome these difficulties, we employ a regularization procedure based on Yosida approximations and implement techniques such as time discretization, cut-off arguments, and relative entropy estimates of sequences of probability measures. Our innovative approach circumvents the need for compactness conditions, distinguishing our work from previous studies.

Stochastic effects on solution landscapes for nematic liquid crystals

Abstract:We study the effects of additive and multiplicative noise on the solution landscape of nematic liquid crystals confined to a square domain within the Landau-de Gennes framework, as well as the impact of additive noise on the symmetric radial hedgehog solution for nematic droplets. The introduction of random noise can be used to capture material uncertainties and imperfections, which are always present in physical systems. We implement random noise in our framework by introducing a Q-Wiener stochastic process to the governing differential equations. On the square, the solution landscape for the deterministic problem is well understood, enabling us to compare and contrast the deterministic predictions and the stochastic predictions, while we demonstrate that the symmetry of the radial hedgehog solution can be violated by noise. This approach of introducing noise to deterministic equations can be used to test the robustness and validity of predictions from deterministic liquid crystal models, which essentially capture idealised situations.
