Abstract:This text serves as an introduction to $\mathbb{F}_1$-geometry for the general mathematician. We explain the initial motivations for $\mathbb{F}_1$-geometry in detail, provide an overview of the different approaches to $\mathbb{F}_1$ and describe the main achievements of the field.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the growth of fundamental groups of Finsler manifolds. Some relationships between the growth of fundamental groups and the volume growth of universal covers of Finsler manifolds are found. Some estimates of entropies and the number of generators of fundamental groups of Finsler manifolds are given. Moreover, the quasi-isometry and the geometric norm in Finsler geometry are considered.

Abstract:In the present paper, dedicated to Yuri Manin, we investigate the general notion of rings of $\mathbb S[\mu_{n,+}]$-polynomials and relate this concept to the known notion of number systems. The Riemann-Roch theorem for the ring $\mathbb Z$ of the integers that we obtained recently uses the understanding of $\mathbb Z$ as a ring of polynomials $\mathbb S[X]$ in one variable over the absolute base $\mathbb S$, where $1+1=X+X^2$. The absolute base $\mathbb S$ (the categorical version of the sphere spectrum) thus turns out to be a strong candidate for the incarnation of the mysterious $\mathbb F_1$.

Abstract:Theory of representations of F-algebra is a natural development of the theory of F-algebra. Exploring of morphisms of the representation leads to the concepts of generating set and basis of representation. In the book I considered the notion of tower of representations of F_i-algebras, i=1, ..., n, as the set of coordinated representations of F_i-algebras. I explore the geometry of affine space as example of tower of representations. Exploration of curvilinear coordinates allows us to see how look at the main structures of the manifold with affine connection. I explore Euclidean space over division ring.

Abstract:We develop and study a generalization of commutative rings called bands, along with the corresponding geometric theory of band schemes. Bands generalize both hyperrings, in the sense of Krasner, and partial fields in the sense of Semple and Whittle. They from a ring-like counterpart to the field-like category of idylls introduced by the first and third author.

Abstract:This work introduces a new class of $F$-structures satisfying $\alpha F^{K+1} +\beta F^{K} + F=0$, where $K$ is a positive integer, $K\geq3$, and $\alpha, \beta$ are real or complex numbers. We investigate the Cauchy-Riemann structure and its link with the $F$-structure. We also address the integrability of this structure, including partial and complete integrability. Finally, we present several examples of the $F$-structure.

Abstract:We shall describe a simple generalization of commutative rings. The category GR of such "rings", contains the ordinary commutative rings (fully faithfully), but also the "integers" and "residue field" at a real or complex place of a field ; the "field with one element" (the initial object of GR ); the "arithmetical surface" ( the sum in the category GR of the integers with them self: Z(x)Z ) . We shall show that this geometry "see" the real and complex places of a number field (there is an Ostrowski theorem that the valuation sub-GR of a number field correspond to the finite and infinite primes; there is a compactification of the spectrum of the integers ). One can develop algebraic geometry using GR following Grothendieck paradigm . Quillen's homotopical algebra replaces homological algebra . There is an analogue of Quillen's cotangent bundle - in particular there is a theory of non-additive derivations, with modules of Kahler differentials which satisfy all the usual exact sequences - we compute explicitly the differentials of the integers Z over the initial object F1 . Finally we associate with any topological compact valuation GR a meromorphic function - its "zeta" : for the p-adic integers we get the p-local factor of zeta, for the "real integers" we get the gamma factor.

Abstract:The existence of a quantum field theory over the "field with one element" was first addressed in 2012 by Bejleri and Marcolli, where it was shown that wonderful compactifications of the graph configuration spaces that appear in the calculation of Feynman integrals, as well as the moduli spaces of curves, admit an $\mathbb F_1$ structure. Recently, we also examined some advantages of studying finite fields $\mathbb F_q$, wherein $\mathbb F_1$ represents the fundamental string with the Planck length, playing a fundamental role in the model. Such a role was briefly described by comparing the similarity between the collapse of the spacetime concept probing the scales below the Planck length and the mathematical collapse of the 'field' concept at $q=1$. In this letter, we elaborate more on this role by explaining how Kapranov and Smirnov's perspective based on the Iwasawa theory is a perfect mathematical fit for string theory. Particularly, their work suggests that the existence of $\mathbb F_1$ alone is sufficient to create other fields $\mathbb F_q$ emergent as its extensions, reflecting the postulate of string theory, where various vibrational modes of the fundamental string manifest as other fields. As support, a couple of evidence are provided that illustrate the physical importance of the Weyl group (known to be a reductive group over $\mathbb F_1$) and explain why the calculation of the amplitudes in the "amplitudes=combinatorial geometry" program (initiated by Arkani-Hamed et al. in 2013) exhibits a combinatorial nature and simplifies the exponentially growing ($\mathcal{O}(4^n)$) calculations of the Feynman diagrams to a polynomially growing order ($\mathcal{O}(n^2)$) in the kinematic space of scattering data for the scalar theory with cubic interactions.

Abstract:It is often noted that many of the basic concepts of differential geometry, such as the definition of connection, are purely algebraic in nature. Here, we review and extend existing work on fully algebraic formulations of differential geometry which eliminate the need for an underlying manifold. While the literature contains various independent approaches to this, we focus on one particular approach that we argue to be the most natural one based on the definition of \emph{algebraifold}, by which we mean a commutative algebra $\mathcal{A}$ for which the module of derivations of $\mathcal{A}$ is finitely generated projective. Over $\mathbb{R}$ as the base ring, this class of algebras includes the algebra $C^\infty(M)$ of smooth functions on a manifold $M$, and similarly for analytic functions. An importantly different example is the Colombeau algebra of generalized functions on $M$, which makes distributional differential geometry an instance of our formalism. Another instance is a fibred version of smooth differential geometry, since any smooth submersion $M \to N$ makes $C^\infty(M)$ into an algebraifold with $C^\infty(N)$ as the base ring.Over any field $k$ of characteristic zero, examples include the algebra of regular functions on a smooth affine variety as well as any function field.

Abstract:We relate Fubini's theorem for Euler characteristics to Riemann-Hurwtiz formulae, and reprove a classical result of Iversen. The techniques used include algebraic geometry, complex geometry, and model theory. Possible applications to the study of wild ramification in finite characteristic are discussed.

Abstract:This work is the first in a series laying the foundations of derived geometry in the $C^{\infty}$ setting, and providing tools for the construction and study of moduli spaces of solutions of Partial Differential Equations that arise in differential geometry and mathematical physics. To advertise the advantages of such a theory, we start with a detailed introduction to derived $C^{\infty}$-geometry in the context of symplectic topology and compare and contrast with Kuranishi space theory. In the body of this work, we avail ourselves of Lurie's extensive work on abstract structured spaces to define $\infty$-categories of derived $C^{\infty}$-rings and $C^{\infty}$-schemes and derived $C^{\infty}$-rings and $C^{\infty}$-schemes with corners via a universal property in a suitable $(\infty,2)$-category of $\infty$-categories with respect to the ordinary categories of manifolds and manifolds with corners (with morphisms the $b$-maps of Melrose in the latter case), and prove many basic structural features about them. Along the way, we establish some derived flatness results for derived $C^{\infty}$-rings of independent interest.

It is a natural sequel to the foundational paper on A1-homotopy theory written together with V. Voevodsky. Inspired by classical results in algebraic topology, we present new techniques, new results and applications related to the properties and computations of A1-homotopy sheaves, A1-homology sheaves, and sheaves with generalized transfers, as well as to algebraic vector bundles over affine smooth varieties.

Abstract:The original article titled "Vari\'et\'es (non s\'epar\'ees) \`a une dimension et structures feuillet\'ees du plan" was published in 1957 in French in L'Enseignement Math\'ematique. It establishes a beautiful connection between foliations of the plane and non-Hausdorff $1$-dimensional manifolds arising naturally as leaf spaces of the foliations. Since its appearance, this theory has paved the way for several results concerning dynamical systems and foliations of the plane and $2$-manifolds. Haefliger and Reeb's article inspires many results in the theory of foliation of $3$-manifolds as well: we refer the interested reader to Danny Calegari's book on the topic. Haefliger and Reeb's article also has been applied to areas outside topological dynamics. This article has been referenced in $43$ papers to-date and has helped build many nice results. In the literature, the main theorem of this article has been commonly referred to as Haefliger-Reeb theory or "a classical result by Haefliger and Reeb". However, to the best of our knowledge, no English version of this article is currently available. We have kept the article entirely unchanged except to add figures and correct a few typographical errors. We hope that this translation will be useful for the broader audience.

But, when I've seen that the sine of an infinite in NSA is infinitely near to a real number I was astonished: what is the intuitive meaning of this number, if any? Then, I've seen that to work in SDG I must learn to work in intuitionistic logic ... You know, I love margins of books, and I don't want to loose too much time, I have many things to do ... G.: In SDG they also say that every infinitesimal is at the same time positive and negative, what is the meaning of all these? And why does the square of a first order infinitesimal equal zero, whereas the product of two first order infinitesimals is not necessarily zero? Abstract:For any pair of orientable closed hyperbolic $3$--manifolds, this paper shows that any isomorphism between the profinite completions of their fundamental groups witnesses a bijective correspondence between the Zariski dense $\mathrm{PSL}(2,\mathbb{Q}^{\mathtt{ac}})$--representations of their fundamental groups, up to conjugacy; moreover, corresponding pairs of representations have identical invariant trace fields and isomorphic invariant quaternion algebras. (Here, $\mathbb{Q}^{\mathtt{ac}}$ denotes an algebraic closure of $\mathbb{Q}$.) Next, assuming the $p$--adic Borel regulator injectivity conjecture for number fields, this paper shows that uniform lattices in $\mathrm{PSL}(2,\mathbb{C})$ with isomorphic profinite completions have identical invariant trace fields, isomorphic invariant quaternion algebras, identical covolume, and identical arithmeticity.

Abstract:Families of objects appear in several contexts, like algebraic topology, theory of deformations, theoretical physics, etc. An unified coordinate-free algebraic framework for families of geometrical quantities is presented here, which allows one to work without introducing ad hoc spaces, by using the language of differential calculus over commutative algebras. An advantage of such an approach, based on the notion of sliceable structures on cylinders, is that the fundamental theorems of standard calculus are straightforwardly generalized to the context of families. As an example of that, we prove the universal homotopy formula.

Abstract:This is the first paper in a series that studies smooth relative Lie algebra homologies and cohomologies based on the theory of formal manifolds and formal Lie groups. In this paper, we lay the foundations for this study by introducing the notion of formal manifolds in the context of differential geometry, inspired by the notion of formal schemes in algebraic geometry. We develop the basic theory for formal manifolds, and establish a fully faithful contravariant functor from the category of formal manifolds to the category of topological $\mathbb{C}$-algebras. We also prove the existence of finite products in the category of formal manifolds by studying vector-valued formal functions.

Abstract:We define a general mathematical framework for linguistics based on the theory of fibrations, called FibLang. We start by modelling the interaction between linguistics and cognition in the most general way possible, with a heavy focus on conceptually motivating any assumption we make. The advantage is that FibLang remains agnostic with respect to any particular axiomatization of grammar one may choose. As such, it is compatible with already existing categorical models of language (such as for example, DisCoCat), providing a formally sound framework to apply mathematical tools developed in the context of category theory, mainly categorical logic, to the study of language
