Abstract:In this article we study the short-time existence of conformal Ricci flow on asymptotically hyperbolic manifolds. We also prove a local Shi's type curvature derivative estimate for conformal Ricci flow.

Abstract:In this paper, we study a class of contracting flows of closed, convex hypersurfaces in the Euclidean space $${\mathbb {R}}^{n+1}$$ with speed $$r^{\alpha } \sigma _k$$, where $$\sigma _k$$ is the k-th elementary symmetric polynomial of the principal curvatures, $$\alpha \in {\mathbb {R}}^1$$, and r is the distance from the hypersurface to the origin. If $$\alpha \ge k+1$$, we prove that the flow exists for all time, preserves the convexity and converges smoothly after normalisation to a sphere centred at the origin. If $$\alpha <k+1$$, a counterexample is given for the above convergence. In the case $$k=1$$ and $$\alpha \ge 2$$, we also prove that the flow converges to a round point if the initial hypersurface is weakly mean-convex and star-shaped.

Abstract:We consider the problem of conformally deforming a metric by a fully nonlinear flow on a compact manifold with totally geodesic boundary. We prove that the k-curvature defined by the modified Schouten tensor always can be deformed in a natural way to a constant at exponential rate and the boundary preserves totally geodesic.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the CR (Cauchy-Riemann) Yamabe flow with zero CR Yamabe invariant. We use the CR Poincaré inequality and a Gagliardo-Nirenberg type interpolation inequality to show that this flow has the long time solution and the solution converges to a contact form with flat pseudo-Hermitian scalar curvature exponentially.

Abstract:By studying a fully nonlinear flow deforming conformal metrics on compact and connected manifold, we prove that for $\lambda < 1$, any metric g with its modified Schouten tensor $A^\lambda_{g}\in \Gamma_k^-$ always can be deformed in a natural way to a conformal metric with constant $\sigma_k$-scalar curvature at exponential rate.

Abstract:Let M n be a smooth, compact manifold without boundary, and F 0: M n → R n+1 a smooth immersion which is convex. The one-parameter families F(·, t): M n × [0, T) → R n+1 of hypersurfaces M t n = F(·, t)(M n ) satisfy an initial value problem dt/dF(·, t) = −H k (·, t)ν(·, t), F(·, 0) = F 0(·), where H is the mean curvature and ν(·, t) is the outer unit normal at F(·, t), such that −H ν = $\overrightarrow H $ is the mean curvature vector, and k > 0 is a constant. This problem is called H k -flow. Such flow will develop singularities after finite time. According to the blow-up rate of the square norm of the second fundamental forms, the authors analyze the structure of the rescaled limit by classifying the singularities as two types, i.e., Type I and Type II. It is proved that for Type I singularity, the limiting hypersurface satisfies an elliptic equation; for Type II singularity, the limiting hypersurface must be a translating soliton.

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate the behavior of the normalized Ricci flow on asymptotically hyperbolic manifolds. We show that the normalized Ricci flow exists globally and converges to an Einstein metric when starting from a non-degenerate and sufficiently Ricci pinched metric. More importantly we use maximum principles to establish the regularity of conformal compactness along the normalized Ricci flow including that of the limit metric at time infinity. Therefore we are able to recover the existence results in Graham and Lee (Adv Math 87:186–255, 1991), Lee (Fredholm Operators and Einstein Metrics on Conformally Compact Manifolds, 2006), and Biquard (Surveys in Differential Geometry: Essays on Einstein Manifolds, 1999) of conformally compact Einstein metrics with conformal infinities which are perturbations of that of given non-degenerate conformally compact Einstein metrics.

Abstract:In this paper, we give the first detailed proof of the short-time existence of Deane Yang’s local Ricci flow. Then, using the local Ricci flow, we prove the short-time existence of the Ricci flow on noncompact manifolds, whose Ricci curvature has global lower bound and sectional curvature has only local average integral bound. The short-time existence of the Ricci flow on noncompact manifolds with bounded curvature was studied by Wan-Xiong Shi in the 1990s. As a corollary of our main theorem, we obtain the short-time existence part of Shi’s theorem in this more general context.
Long-time Ricci flow existence and topological rigidity from manifolds with pinched scale-invariant integral curvature

Abstract:We prove long-time existence of the Ricci flow starting from complete manifolds with bounded curvature and scale-invariant integral curvature sufficiently pinched with respect to the inverse of its Sobolev constant. Moreover, if the curvature is sub-critical $L^p$ integrable, this flow converges locally smoothly to a limiting metric $g(\infty)$ on $M$ with $(M,g(\infty))$ isometric to the standard flat $\mathbb{R}^n$, which implies topological rigidity of $M$. This generalizes work of Chen, who proved analogous results for asymptotically flat manifolds. We also prove a long-time Ricci flow existence (and likewise topological rigidity) result for unbounded curvature initial data, assuming the initial data is a locally smooth limit of bounded curvature manifolds as described above.

Abstract:We study Ricci flows on $R^n$, $n\ge 3$, that evolve from asymptotically flat initial data. Under mild conditions on the initial data, we show that the flow exists and remains asymptotically flat for an interval of time. The mass is constant in time along the flow. We then specialize to the case of rotationally symmetric, asymptotically flat initial data containing no embedded minimal hyperspheres. We show that in this case the flow is immortal, remains asymptotically flat, never develops a minimal hypersphere, and converges to flat Euclidean space as the time diverges to infinity. We discuss the behaviour of quasi-local mass under the flow, and relate this to a conjecture in string theory.

Abstract:We show that in dimension 4 and above, the lifespan of Ricci flows depends on the relative smallness of the Ricci curvature compared to the Riemann curvature on the initial manifold. We can generalize this lifespan estimate to the local Ricci flow, using which we prove the short-time existence of Ricci flow solutions on noncompact Riemannian manifolds with at most quadratic curvature growth, whose Ricci curvature and its first two derivatives are sufficiently small in regions where the Riemann curvature is large. Those Ricci flow solutions may have unbounded curvature. Moreover, our method implies that, under some appropriate assumptions, the spatial transfer rate (the rate at which high curvature regions affect low curvature regions) of the Ricci flow resembles that of the heat equation.

Abstract:By using the Yamabe flow, we prove that if $(M^n,g)$, $n\geq3$, is an $n$-dimensional locally conformally flat complete Riemannian manifold $Rc\geq \epsilon Rg>0$, where $\epsilon>0$ is a uniformly constant, then $M^n$ must be compact. Our result shows that Hamilton's pinching conjecture also holds for higher dimensional case if we assume additionally the metric is locally conformally flat.

Abstract:We prove that the Ricci flow for complete metrics with bounded geometry depends continuously on initial conditions for finite time with no loss of regularity. This relies on our recent work where sectoriality for the generator of the Ricci-DeTurck flow is proved. We use this to prove that for initial metrics sufficiently close in Hölder norm to a rotationally symmetric asymptotically hyperbolic metric and satisfying a simple curvature condition, but a priori distant from the hyperbolic metric, Ricci flow converges to the hyperbolic metric.

Abstract:In this paper, we study some intrinsic characterization of conformally compact manifolds. We show that, if a complete Riemannian manifold admits an essential set and its curvature tends to −1 at infinity in certain rate, then it is conformally compactifiable and the compactified metrics can enjoy some regularity at infinity. As a consequence we prove some rigidity theorems for complete manifolds whose curvature tends to the hyperbolic one in a rate greater than 2.

Abstract:We study short-time existence of static flow on complete noncompact asymptotically static manifolds from the point of view that the stationary points of the evolution equations can be interpreted as static solutions of the Einstein vacuum equations with negative cosmological constant. We give a criterion on steady gradient Ricci soliton on complete and noncompact Riemannian manifolds that is Ricci-flat, and then introduce a natural flow whose stable points are Ricci-flat metrics. Modifying the argument used by Shi and List, we prove the short time existence and higher order derivatives estimates.

Abstract:In this paper, we study Ricci flow on compact manifolds with a continuous initial metric. It was known from Simon (2002) that the Ricci flow exists for a short time. We prove that the scalar curvature lower bound is preserved along the Ricci flow if the initial metric has a scalar curvature lower bound in the distributional sense provided that the initial metric is W 1, p for some n < p ⩽ ∞. As an application, we use this result to study the relation between the Yamabe invariant and Ricci flat metrics. We prove that if the Yamabe invariant is nonpositive and the scalar curvature is nonnegative in the distributional sense, then the manifold is isometric to a Ricci flat manifold.

Abstract:In this article, we will study the isoperimetric problem by introducing a mean curvature type flow in the Riemannian manifold endowed with a non-trivial conformal vector field. This flow preserves the volume of the bounded domain enclosed by a star-shaped hypersurface and decreases the area of hypersurface under certain conditions. We will prove the long time existence and convergence of the flow. As a result, the isoperimetric inequality for such a domain is established. Especially, we solve the isoperimetric problem for the star-shaped hypersurfaces in the Riemannian manifold endowed with a closed, non-trivial conformal vector field, a wide class of warped product spaces studied by Guan, Li and Wang is included.

Abstract: In our previous paper math.DG/0010008, we develop some new techniques in attacking the convergence problems for the K\"ahler Ricci flow. The one of main ideas is to find a set of new functionals on curvature tensors such that the Ricci flow is the gradient like flow of these functionals. We successfully find such functionals in case of Kaehler manifolds. On K\"ahler-Einstein manifold with positive scalar curvature, if the initial metric has positive bisectional curvature, we prove that these functionals have a uniform lower bound, via the effective use of Tian's inequality. Consequently, we prove the following theorem: Let $M$ be a K\"ahler-Einstein manifold with positive scalar curvature. If the initial metric has nonnegative bisectional curvature and positive at least at one point, then the K\"ahler Ricci flow will converge exponentially fast to a K\"ahler-Einstein metric with constant bisectional curvature. Such a result holds for K\"ahler-Einstein orbifolds.
