Abstract:Sustainable urban design is increasingly recognized as a critical component in the development of resilient cities, particularly in the context of escalating environmental challenges and urbanization pressures. Green buildings, characterized by their resource efficiency, reduced environmental impact, and improved indoor environmental quality, play a pivotal role in this paradigm. This paper examines the role of green buildings in shaping resilient cities by integrating sustainable practices into urban planning and development. The study explores how green buildings contribute to urban resilience through energy efficiency, water conservation, waste reduction, and the enhancement of urban biodiversity. Additionally, it addresses the socio-economic benefits of green buildings, such as improved public health, increased property values, and job creation in green industries, which collectively contribute to the overall sustainability of urban environments. The research also investigates the interplay between green buildings and urban infrastructure, highlighting how sustainable architecture can be leveraged to mitigate the impacts of climate change, such as urban heat islands and flooding. Case studies from various cities around the world are used to illustrate successful implementations of green buildings and their contribution to urban resilience. These examples demonstrate how green buildings can serve as a model for sustainable urban development, providing insights into best practices and strategies for other cities to emulate. Moreover, the paper discusses the challenges and barriers to the widespread adoption of green buildings, including financial constraints, regulatory hurdles, and the need for greater public awareness and education. The findings underscore the importance of a holistic approach to urban design that incorporates green building practices as a core element of resilient city planning. The paper concludes with recommendations for policymakers, urban planners, and developers on how to promote the integration of green buildings into the broader framework of sustainable urban design, ensuring that cities are not only resilient to environmental stresses but also conducive to the well-being of their inhabitants.
