Abstract:Let V be a complex vector space. We propose a compactification PM(V) of the projective linear group PGL(V), which can act on the projective space P(V). After proving some properties of PM(V), we consider its relation to Neretin's compactification Hinge*(V).

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate the compact minimal submanifold M-n(n >= 3) in the complex projective space CPn+p/2 (1). Denote by S the square norm of the second fundamental form. Set, (S) over tilde = S + 1/2 vertical bar t vertical bar(2) and epsilon = inf(M)vertical bar P vertical bar(2) , where P, t are the tensors defined in (2.1) below. We first, prove such that if parallel to S parallel to(n/2) < alpha 1 (n, epsilon) for epsilon > 0, then M is a totally geodesic submanifold CPn/2. Moreover, we prove if parallel to(S) over tilde parallel to(n/2) < alpha 3(n), where alpha 3(n) is an explicit positive constant depending only on n, then M is a totally geodesic submanifold CPn/2. We also prove other global pinching theorems for minimal submanifolds in the complex projective space.

Abstract:The complex projective structures considered is this article are compact curves locally modeled on $\mathbb{CP}^1$. To such a geometric object, modulo marked isomorphism, the monodromy map associates an algebraic one: a representation of its fundamental group into $\operatorname{PGL}(2,\mathbb{C})$, modulo conjugacy. This correspondence is neither surjective nor injective. Nonetheless, it is a local diffeomorphism [Hejhal, 1975]. We generalize this theorem to projective structures admitting poles (without apparent singularity and with fixed residues): the corresponding monodromy map (including Stokes data) is a local biholomorphism.

On PM-monoids and braid PM-monoids

Abstract:In this paper, we shall introduce two monoids. One is called a PM-monoid which contains the symmetric group, the other is called a braid PM-monoid which contains the braid group. We shall develop the theory of PM-monoids and that of braid PM-monoids. The PM-monoids is obtained in the context of the compactification of projective linear group defined by Mutsumi Saito. The structure of PM-monoids is described in terms of matched pairs. We can define braid PM-monoid using a presentation for the PM-monoid. As main results, we show that braid PM-monoids are described by geometric braids and we find a solution to the word problem for the braid PM-monoids.

GIT stability of linear maps on projective space with marked points

Abstract:We construct moduli spaces of linear self-maps of projective space with marked points, up to projective equivalence. That is, we let the special linear group act simultaneously by conjugation on projective linear maps and diagonally on $(\mathbb{P}^N)^n$, and we take the geometric invariant theory (GIT) quotient. These moduli spaces arise in algebraic dynamics and integrable systems. Our main result is a dynamical characterization of the GIT semistable and stable loci in the space of linear maps $T$ with marked points. We show that GIT stability can be checked by counting the marked points on flags with certain Hessenberg functions relative to $T$. The proof is combinatorial: to describe the weight polytopes for this action, we compute the vertices and facets of certain convex polyhedra generated by roots of the $A_N$ lattice.

Geometric Structures on the Complement of a Projective Arrangement

Abstract:Consider a complex projective space with its Fubini-Study metric. We study certain one parameter deformations of this metric on the complement of an arrangement (= finite union of hyperplanes) whose Levi-Civita connection is of Dunkl type. Interesting examples are obtained from the arrangements defined by finite complex reflection groups. We determine a parameter interval for which the metric is locally of Fubini-Study type, flat, or complex-hyperbolic. We find a finite subset of this interval for which we get a complete orbifold or at least a Zariski open subset thereof, and we analyze these cases in some detail (e.g., we determine their orbifold fundamental group). In this set-up, the principal results of Deligne-Mostow on the Lauricella hypergeometric differential equation and work of Barthel-Hirzebruch-Höfer on arrangements in a projective plane appear as special cases. Along the way we produce in a geometric manner all the pairs of complex reflection groups with isomorphic discriminants, thus providing a uniform approach to work of Orlik-Solomon.

Abstract:Let $t$ be a positive integer. Following work of D. M. Davis, we study the topology of complex-projective product spaces, i.e. quotients of cartesian products of odd dimensional spheres by the diagonal $S^1$-action, and of the $t$-torsion lens product spaces, i.e. the corresponding quotients when the action is restricted to the $t^{\mathrm{th}}$ roots of unity. For a commutative complex-oriented cohomology theory $h^*$, we determine the $h^*$-cohomology ring of these spaces (in terms of the $t$-series for $h^*$, in the case of $t$-torsion lens product spaces). When $h^*$ is singular cohomology with mod 2 coefficients, we also determine the action of the Steenrod algebra. We show that these spaces break apart after a suspension as a wedge of desuspensions of usual stunted complex projective ($t$-torsion lens) spaces. We estimate the category and topological complexity of complex-projective and lens product spaces, showing in particular that these invariants are usually much lower than predicted by the usual dimensional bounds. We extend Davis' analysis of manifold properties such as immersion dimension, (stable-)span, and (stable-)parallelizability of real projective product spaces to the complex-projective and lens product cases.

Abstract:We construct projective covers of irreducible V -modules in the category of grading-restricted generalized V -modules when V is a vertex operator algebra satisfying the following conditions: 1. V is C 1 -cofinite in the sense of Li. 2. There exists a positive integer N such that the differences between the real parts of the lowest conformal weights of irreducible V -modules are bounded by N and such that the associative algebra A N ( V ) is finite dimensional. This result shows that the category of grading-restricted generalized V -modules is a finite abelian category over C . Using the existence of projective covers, we prove that if such a vertex operator algebra V also satisfies Condition 3 that irreducible V -modules are R -graded and C 1 -cofinite in the sense of the author, then the category of grading-restricted generalized V -modules is closed under operations ⧅ P ( z ) for z ∈ C × . We also prove that other conditions for applying the logarithmic tensor product theory developed by Lepowsky, Zhang and the author hold. Consequently, for such V , this category has a natural structure of braided tensor category. In particular, when V is of positive energy and C 2 -cofinite, Conditions 1–3 are satisfied and thus all the conclusions hold.

Abstract:We describe a fully faithful embedding of projective geometries, given in terms of closure operators, into $\mathbb{F}_1$-modules, in the sense of Connes and Consani. This factors through a faithful functor out of simple pointed matroids. This follows from our construction of a fully faithful embedding of weakly unital, commutative hypermagmas into $\fun$-modules. This embedding is of independent interest as it generalizes the classical Eilenberg-MacLane embedding for commutative monoids and recovers Segal's nerve construction for commutative partial monoids. For this reason, we spend some time elaborating its structure.

The low dimensional homology of projective linear group of rank two

Abstract:In this article we study the low dimensional homology of the projective linear group $\textrm{PGL}_2(A)$ over a commutative ring $A$. In particular, we prove a Bloch-Wigner type exact sequence over local domains. As applications we prove that $H_2(\textrm{PGL}_2(A),\mathbb{Z}\left[\frac{1}{2}\right])\simeq K_2(A)\left[\frac{1}{2}\right]$ and $H_3(\textrm{PGL}_2(A),\mathbb{Z}\left[\frac{1}{2}\right])\simeq K_3^{\textrm{ind}}(A)\left[\frac{1}{2}\right]$ provided $|A/\mathcal{m}_A|\neq 2,3,4,8$.

Abstract:Schubert varieties of hyperplane arrangements, also known as matroid Schubert varieties, play an essential role in the proof of the Dowling-Wilson conjecture and in Kazhdan-Lusztig theory for matroids. We study these varieties as equivariant compactifications of affine spaces, and give necessary and sufficient conditions to characterize them. We also generalize the theory to include partial compactifications and morphisms between them. Our results resemble the correspondence between toric varieties and polyhedral fans.

Abstract:In this paper, we study rational sections of the relative Picard scheme of a linear system on a smooth projective variety. We prove that if the linear system is basepoint-free and the locus of non-integral divisors has codimension at least two, then all rational sections of the relative Picard scheme come from restrictions of line bundles on the variety. As a consequence, we describe the group of sections of the Hitchin fibration for moduli spaces of Higgs bundles on curves.

Abstract:When a reductive group $G$ acts linearly on a complex projective scheme $X$ there is a stratification of $X$ into $G$-invariant locally closed subschemes, with an open stratum $X^{ss}$ formed by the semistable points in the sense of Mumford's geometric invariant theory which has a categorical quotient $X^{ss} \to X//G$. In this article we describe a method for constructing quotients of the unstable strata. As an application, we construct moduli spaces of sheaves of fixed Harder-Narasimhan type with some extra data (an '$n$-rigidification') on a projective base.

Projective embeddings of homogeneous spaces with small boundary

Abstract:We study open equivariant projective embeddings of homogeneous spaces such that the complement of the open orbit does not contain divisors. Criterions of existence of such an embedding are considered and finiteness of isomorphism classes of embeddings for a given homogeneous space is proved. Any embedding with small boundary is realized as a GIT-quotient associated with a linearization of the trivial line bundle on the space of the canonical embedding. The generalized Cox's construction and the theory of bunched rings allow us to describe basic geometric properties of embeddings with small boundary in combinatorial terms.

Abstract:Abstract In this paper, we investigate the properties of the real and complex projective structures associated to Hitchin and quasi‐Hitchin representations that were originally constructed using Guichard–Wienhard's theory of domains of discontinuity. We determine the topology of the underlying manifolds and we prove that some of these geometric structures are fibered in a special standard way. In order to prove these results, we give two new ways to construct these geometric structures: we construct them using gauge theory, flat bundles, and Higgs bundles, and we also give a new geometric way to construct them.

Abstract:There are two canonical projective structures on any compact Riemann surface of genus at least two: one coming from the uniformization theorem and the other from Hodge theory. They produce two (different) families of projective structures over the moduli space of compact Riemann surfaces. A recent work of Biswas, Favale, Pirola and Torelli shows that families of projective structures over admit an equivalent characterization in terms of complex connections on the dual of the determinant of the Hodge line bundle over ; the same work gave the connection on corresponding to the projective structures coming from uniformization.

Abstract:For a complex reductive group G acting linearly on a complex affine space V with respect to a character, we show two stratifications of V associated to this action (and a choice of invariant inner product on the Lie algebra of the maximal compact subgroup of G) coincide. The first is Hesselink's stratification by adapted 1-parameter subgroups and the second is the Morse theoretic stratification associated to the norm square of the moment map. We also give a proof of a version of the Kempf-Ness theorem which states that the GIT quotient is homeomorphic to the symplectic reduction (both taken with respect to the character). Finally, for the space of representations of a quiver of fixed dimension, we show that the Morse theoretic stratification and Hesselink's stratification coincide with the stratification by Harder-Narasimhan types.

Abstract:Let Fp be the prime field of order p > 0 and G be an elementary abelian p -group. For some n -dimensional cohyperplane G -representations V over Fp , we show that Fp[V⊕V*]G , the invariant ring of a vector and a covector is a complete intersection by exhibiting an explicit generating set (in fact, a SAGBI basis) and exposing all relations among the generators.

Moduli Spaces of Hyperplanar Admissible Flags in Projective Space

Abstract:We prove the existence of quasi-projective coarse moduli spaces parametrising certain complete flags of subschemes of a fixed projective space $\mathbb{P}(V)$ up to projective automorphisms. The flags of subschemes being parametrised are obtained by intersecting non-degenerate subvarieties of $\mathbb{P}(V)$ of dimension $n$ by flags of linear subspaces of $\mathbb{P}(V)$ of length $n$, with each positive dimension component of the flags being required to be non-singular and non-degenerate, and with the dimension $0$ components being required to satisfy a Chow stability condition. These moduli spaces are constructed using non-reductive Geometric Invariant Theory for actions of groups whose unipotent radical is graded, making use of a non-reductive analogue of quotienting-in-stages developed by Hoskins and Jackson.
