Abstract:We present numerical results from plasma particle simulations of collisionless shocks and ultra-relativistic counter-streaming plasmas. We demonstrate how the field-particle interactions lead to particle acceleration behind the shock-front. Further, we demonstrate how ultra relativistic counter-streaming plasmas create large scale patchy magnetic field structures and that these field structures propagate down-stream of the shock front. These results may help explain the origin of the magnetic fields and accelerated electrons responsible for afterglow synchrotron radiation from gamma ray bursts.

Abstract:Motivated by the operation of myogenic (self-oscillatory) insect flight muscle, we study a model consisting of a large number of identical oscillatory contractile elements joined in a chain, whose end is attached to a damped mass-spring oscillator. When the inertial load is small, the serial coupling favors an antisynchronous state in which the extension of one oscillator is compensated by the contraction of another, in order to preserve the total length. However, a sufficiently massive load can sychronize the oscillators and can even induce oscillation in situations where isolated elements would be stable. The system has a complex phase diagram displaying quiescent, synchronous and antisynchrononous phases, as well as an unsual asynchronous phase in which the total length of the chain oscillates at a different frequency from the individual active elements.

Abstract:We prove a set of inequalities that interpolate the Cauchy-Schwarz inequality and the triangle inequality. Every nondecreasing, convex function with a concave derivative induces such an inequality. They hold in any metric space that satisfies a metric version of the Cauchy-Schwarz inequality, including all CAT(0) spaces and, in particular, all Euclidean spaces. Because these inequalities establish relations between the six distances of four points, we call them quadruple inequalities. In this context, we introduce the quadruple constant - a real number that quantifies the distortion of the Cauchy-Schwarz inequality by a given function. Additionally, for inner product spaces, we prove an alternative, more symmetric version of the quadruple inequalities, which generalizes the parallelogram law.

Furthermore, we apply the theory of Universal Teichmuller Space to explain its geometric meaning which shows the relationship between the inner radius in Universal Teichmuller Space embedded by Schwarzian derivative and the norm defined in Universal Teichmuller Space embedded by pre-Schwarzian derivative.

Abstract:A quadrilateral inequality established by C. Schötz in the context of Hilbert spaces is extended to the framework of Banach spaces. Our approach is based on the majorization theory and a substitute for the parallelogram law associated with Clarkson's notion of von Neumann-Jordan constant. As a by-product, several functional inequalities that extend classical inequalities from linear algebra and geometry of Banach spaces are also obtained.

Abstract:We use (versions of) the von Neumann inequality for Hilbert space contractions to prove several Schwarz-Pick inequalities. Specifically, we derive an alternate proof for a multi-point Schwarz-Pick inequality by Beardon and Minda, along with a generalized version for operators. Connections with model spaces and Peschl's invariant derivatives are established. Finally, Schwarz-Pick inequalities for analytic functions on polydisks and for higher order derivatives are discussed. An enhanced version of the Schwarz-Pick lemma, using the notion of distinguished variety, is obtained for the bidisk.

Abstract:We study a Schwarz-Pick type inequality for the Schur-Agler class $SA(B_{\delta})$. In fact, the class $S_{2, gen}(B_{\Delta})$ consisting of functions that satisfy the inequality for those matrices enjoys \begin{equation*} d_{\mathbb{D}}(f(z), f(w))\le d_{\Delta}(z, w) \;\;(z,w\in B_{\Delta}, f\in S_{2, gen}(B_{\Delta})). \end{equation*} Here, $d_{\Delta}$ is a function defined by a matrix $\Delta$ of abstract functions. Later, we focus on the case when $\Delta$ is a matrix of holomorphic functions. We use the pseudo-distance $d_{\Delta}$ to give a sufficient condition on a diagonalizable commuting tuple $T$ acting on $\mathbb{C}^2$ for $B_{\Delta}$ to be a complete spectral domain for $T$. We apply this sufficient condition to generalizing von Neumann's inequalities studied by Drury and by Hartz-Richter-Shalit.

Abstract:In this article, we establish an improvement of the Cauchy-Schwarz inequality. Let $x, y \in \mathcal{H},$ and let $f: (0,1) \rightarrow \mathbb{R}^+$ be a well-defined function, where $\mathbb{R}^+$ denote the set of all positive real numbers. Then \[|\langle x, y \rangle|^2 \leq \frac{f(t)}{1+f(t)} \|x\|^2 \|y\|^2 + \frac{1}{1+ f(t)} |\langle x, y \rangle | \|x\|\|y\|. \] We have applied this result to derive new and improved upper bounds for the numerical radius.

Abstract:In this paper, we present various inequalities regarding the linear combinations of orthogonal projections. These results aim to generalize and refine well-known inequalities, such as those due to Buzano and Ostrowski. Additionally, we investigate a specific case of these linear combinations and introduce new refinements of the Cauchy–Schwarz inequality. Furthermore, we establish some findings related to the covariance and variance of bounded linear operators. Moreover, as applications of some of our results, we establish several inequalities involving the product of three operators, one of which is a linear combination of an orthogonal projection and the identity operator. Finally, we introduce a new positive operator construction in terms of an orthogonal projection and the identity operator, and we derive some norms and numerical radius inequalities involving it.

Abstract:Our first aim of this article is to establish several new versions of refined Bohr inequalities for bounded analytic functions in the unit disk involving Schwarz functions. Secondly, %as applications of these results, we obtain several new multidimensional analogues of the refined Bohr inequalities for bounded holomorphic mappings on the unit ball in a complex Banach space involving higher dimensional Schwarz mappings. All the results are proved to be sharp.

Abstract:We develop a new refinement of the Kato's inequality and using this refinement we obtain several upper bounds for the numerical radius of a bounded linear operator as well as the product of operators, which improve the well known existing bounds. Further, we obtain a necessary and sufficient condition for the positivity of $2\times 2$ certain block matrices and using this condition we deduce an upper bound for the numerical radius involving a contraction operator. Furthermore, we study the Schatten $p$-norm inequalities for the sum of two $n\times n$ complex matrices via singular values and from the inequalities we obtain the $p$-numerical radius and the classical numerical radius bounds. We show that for every $p>0$, the $p$-numerical radius $w_p(\cdot): \mathcal{M}_n(\mathbb C)\to \mathbb R$ satisfies $ w_p(T) \leq \frac12 \sqrt{\left\| |T|^{2(1-t)}+|T^*|^{2(1-t)} \right\|^{} \, \big \||T|^{2t}+|T^*|^{2t} \big\|_{p/2}^{} } $ for all $t\in [0,1]$. Considering $p\to \infty$, we get a nice refinement of the well known classical numerical radius bound $w(T) \leq \sqrt{\frac12 \left\| T^*T+TT^* \right \|}.$ As an application of the Schatten $p$-norm inequalities we develop a bound for the energy of graph. We show that $ \mathcal{E}(G) \geq \frac{2m}{ \sqrt{ \max_{1\leq i \leq n} \left\{ \sum_{j, v_i \sim v_j}d_j\right\}} },$ where $\mathcal{E}(G)$ is the energy of a simple graph $G$ with $m$ edges and $n$ vertices $v_1,v_2,\ldots,v_n$ such that degree of $v_i$ is $d_i$ for each $i=1,2,\ldots,n.$
