Abstract:In this paper we study the existence of closed convex hypersurfaces in the Euclidean space Rn+1 such that a Weingarten curvature, regarded as a function of their unit normal, is equal to a given positive function on the unit sphere Sn. Two classical problems of this type, namely the Christoffel problem [6] and the Minkowski problem [16], which address respectively the cases of harmonic and Gauss curvature, were completely solved in the 1970’s [7,9,17]. Besides the harmonic and Gauss curvatures, the most interesting Weingarten curvatures are probably the mean curvature, or more generally the k-curvatures (1 ≤ k ≤ n)

Abstract:In this paper a flow of convex hypersurfaces in the Euclidean space by the linear combination of the mean curvature and the n-th root of the Gauss-Kronecker curvature is considered. It is proved that such deforming convex hypersurfaces converge to a round sphere in the Huisken's sense.

Abstract:We consider constant mean curvature 1 surfaces in $\mathbb{R}^3$ arising via the DPW method from a holomorphic perturbation of the standard Delaunay potential on the punctured disk. Kilian, Rossman and Schmitt have proven that such a surface is asymptotic to a Delaunay surface. We consider families of such potentials parametrised by the necksize of the model Delaunay surface and prove the existence of a uniform disk on which the surfaces are close to the model Delaunay surface and are embedded in the unduloid case.

Abstract:Let M be an n-dimensional closed hypersurface with constant mean curvature and constant scalar curvature in a unit sphere. Denote by H and S the mean curvature and the squared length of the second fundamental form. We prove that if a(n, H) <= S <= alpha( n, H)+ CnH2, where n >= 4 and H not equal 0, then S = alpha( n, H) and M is a Clifford torus Sn-1(r(1)) x S-1(r(2)). Here alpha(n, H) = n + n(3)/2(n -1) H-2 - n(n - 2)/2(n - 1) root n(2)H(4) + 4(n - 1) H-2, and C-n is a positive constant explicitly depending on n. The emphasis is that our gap theorem imposes no restriction on the range of mean curvature. Moreover, we obtain gap theorems for complete hypersurfaces with constant mean curvature and constant scalar curvature in space forms.

Abstract:Recently, Pipoli and Sinestrari [Pipoli, G. and Sinestrari, C., Mean curvature flow of pinched submanifolds of ℝℙ n , Comm. Anal. Geom. , 25 , 2017, 799–846] initiated the study of convergence problem for the mean curvature flow of small codimension in the complex projective space ℝℙ m . The purpose of this paper is to develop the work due to Pipoli and Sinestrari, and verify a new convergence theorem for the mean curvature flow of arbitrary codimension in the complex projective space. Namely, the authors prove that if the initial submanifold in ℝℙ m satisfies a suitable pinching condition, then the mean curvature flow converges to a round point in finite time, or converges to a totally geodesic submanifold as t → ∞. Consequently, they obtain a differentiable sphere theorem for submanifolds in the complex projective space.

Abstract:By using curvature estimates, we prove that a complete non-compact hypersurface M with constant mean curvature and finiteL n -norm curvature in R n+1 must be minimal, so that M is a hyperplane if it is strongly stable. This is a generalization of the result on stable complete minimal hypersurfaces of R n+1. Moreover, complete strongly stable hypersurfaces with constant mean curvature and finite L 1-norm curvature in R n+1 are considered.

Abstract:In this article, we construct complete embedded constant mean curvature surfaces in $\mb{R}^3$ with freely prescribed genus and any number of ends greater than or equal to four. Heuristically, the surfaces are obtained by resolving finitely many points of tangency between collections of spheres. The construction relies a family of constant mean curvature surfaces constructed in \cite{Kleene}, constructed as graphs over catenoidal necks of small scale.

Abstract:Intrinsic Delaunay triangulation (IDT) is a fundamental data structure in computational geometry and computer graphics. However, except for some theoretical results, such as existence and uniqueness, little progress has been made towards computing IDT on simplicial surfaces. To date the only way for constructing IDTs is the edge-flipping algorithm, which iteratively flips the non-Delaunay edge to be locally Delaunay. Although the algorithm is conceptually simple and guarantees to stop in finite steps, it has no known time complexity. Moreover, the edge-flipping algorithm may produce non-regular triangulations, which contain self-loops and/or faces with only two edges. In this paper, we propose a new method for constructing IDT on manifold triangle meshes. Based on the duality of geodesic Voronoi diagrams, our method can guarantee the resultant IDTs are regular. Our method has a theoretical worst-case time complexity $O(n^2\log n)$ for a mesh with $n$ vertices. We observe that most real-world models are far from their Delaunay triangulations, thus, the edge-flipping algorithm takes many iterations to fix the non-Delaunay edges. In contrast, our method is non-iterative and insensitive to the number of non-Delaunay edges. Empirically, it runs in linear time $O(n)$ on real-world models.
Estimates for the Constant Mean Curvature Dirichlet Problem on Catenoids

Abstract:In this article, we solve the constant mean curvature dirichlet problem on catenoidal necks with small scale in $\mb{R}^3$. The solutions are found in exponentially weighted Hölder spaces with non-integer weight and are a-priori bounded by a uniform constant times $r^{1 + \gamma}$, where $r$ denotes the distance to the axis of the neck and where $\gamma$ belongs to the interval $(0, 1)$. By comparing the solutions with their limits on the disk, we improve the estimate to $\gamma =1$. As a corollary, we prove differentiability of solutions in $\tau$ down to $\tau = 0$. The surfaces we construct have applications to gluing constructions.

Abstract:We define discrete constant mean curvature (cmc) surfaces in the three-dimensional Euclidean and Lorentz spaces in terms of sphere packings with orthogonally intersecting circles. These discrete cmc surfaces can be constructed from orthogonal ring patterns in the two-sphere and the hyperbolic plane. We present a variational principle that allows us to solve boundary value problems and to construct discrete analogues of some classical cmc surfaces. The data used for the construction is purely combinatorial - the combinatorics of the curvature line pattern. In the limit of orthogonal circle patterns we recover the theory of discrete minimal surfaces associated to Koebe polyhedra all edges of which touch a sphere. These are generalized to two-sphere Koebe nets, i.e., nets with planar quadrilateral faces and edges that alternately touch two concentric spheres.

Abstract:We propose a unified definition for discrete analogues of constant mean curvature surfaces in spaces of constant curvature as a special case of discrete special isothermic nets. Bäcklund transformations and Lawson's correspondence are discussed. It is shown that the definition generalizes previous definitions and a construction for discrete cmc surfaces of revolution in space forms is provided.

Abstract:We study constant mean curvature 1/2 surfaces in H2xR that admit a compactification of the mean curvature operator. We show that a particular family of complete entire graphs over H2 admits a structure of infinite dimensional manifold with local control on the behaviors at infinity. These graphs also appear to have a half-space property and we deduce a uniqueness result at infinity. Deforming non degenerate constant mean curvature 1/2 annuli, we provide a large class of (non rotational) examples and construct (possibly embedded) annuli without axis, i.e. with two vertical, asymptotically rotational, non aligned ends.
Discrete Differential Geometry for $C^{1,1}$ Hyperbolic Surfaces of Non-Constant Curvature

Abstract:We develop a discrete differential geometry for surfaces of non-constant negative curvature, which can be used to model various phenomena from the growth of flower petals to marine invertebrate swimming. Specifically, we derive and numerically integrate a version of the classical Lelieuvre formulas that apply to immersions of $C^{1,1}$ hyperbolic surfaces of non-constant curvature. In contrast to the constant curvature case, these formulas do not provide an explicit method for constructing an immersion but rather describe an immersion via an implicit set of equations. We propose an iterative method for resolving these equations. Because we are interested in scenarios where the curvature is a function of the intrinsic material coordinates, in particular, on the geodesic distance from an origin, we suggest a fast marching method for computing geodesic distance on manifolds. We apply our methods to generate surfaces of non-constant curvature and demonstrate how one can introduce branch points to account for the sort of multi-generational buckling and subwrinkling observed in many applications.

Abstract:In surface modeling of CAD/CAM systems, it is necessary to construct an N-sided surface in terms of (N-1) boundary curves and their cross derivatives. Combining the Coons' strategy and B-spline method, a method is proposed to construct N-sided surface in terms of (N-1) boundary curves and their cross derivatives. A strategy is suggested to remove the singularity of the constructed N-sided surface. An approach is offered to form the constructed N-sided surface by using N pieces of NURBS surfaces of degrees 7��7 with nearly C1 continuity. The advantages of the proposed method are: (1) The N-sided surface is of global G1 continuity; (2) the cross derivatives interpolated by the N-sided surface can be given independently and need not meet the compatibility condition; (3) The N-sided surface can be formed with N pieces of NURBDS surfaces with nearly G1 continuity. Since NURBS has become the standard of data exchanges and the basic expression form in many CAD/CAM systems, the constructed N-sided surface can be easily incorporated into the existing CAD/CAM systems.

Abstract:We study surfaces with constant anisotropic mean curvature which are invariant under a helicoidal motion. For functionals with axially symmetric Wulff shapes, we generalize the recently developed twizzler representation of Perdomo to the anisotropic case and show how all helicoidal constant anisotropic mean curvature surfaces can be obtained by quadratures.

Abstract:Intrinsic Delaunay triangulation (IDT) naturally generalizes Delaunay triangulation from R2 to curved surfaces. Due to many favorable properties, the IDT whose vertex set includes all mesh vertices is of particular interest in polygonal mesh processing. To date, the only way for constructing such IDT is the edge-flipping algorithm, which iteratively flips non-Delaunay edges to become locally Delaunay. Although this algorithm is conceptually simple and guarantees to terminate in finite steps, it has no known time complexity and may also produce triangulations containing faces with only two edges. This article develops a new method to obtain proper IDTs on manifold triangle meshes. We first compute a geodesic Voronoi diagram (GVD) by taking all mesh vertices as generators and then find its dual graph. The sufficient condition for the dual graph to be a proper triangulation is that all Voronoi cells satisfy the so-called closed ball property. To guarantee the closed ball property everywhere, a certain sampling criterion is required. For Voronoi cells that violate the closed ball property, we fix them by computing topologically safe regions, in which auxiliary sites can be added without changing the topology of the Voronoi diagram beyond them. Given a mesh with n vertices, we prove that by adding at most O(n) auxiliary sites, the computed GVD satisfies the closed ball property, and hence its dual graph is a proper IDT. Our method has a theoretical worst-case time complexity O(n2 + tnlog n), where t is the number of obtuse angles in the mesh. Computational results show that it empirically runs in linear time on real-world models.
The existence of inversive distance circle packing on polyhedral surface

Abstract:We prove that for any discrete curvature satisfying Gauss-Bonnet formula, there exist a unique up to scaling inversive distance circle packing in the discrete conformal equivalent class, whose polyhedral metric meets the target curvature. We prove it by constructing diffeomorphism between fiber bundles with cell decomposition based on Teichmüller spaces, and each discrete conformal equivalent class is a fiber passing through finite cell with respect to triangulations, which means we can do surgery on the discrete Ricci flow by edge flipping using a generalized Ptolemy equation to ensure it converge and never blow up.

Abstract:Delaunay triangulation and Voronoi diagram are widely used in computer graphics, computational geometry and other fields. Different from the planar case, Delaunay triangulation of a point set on smooth 2-manifolds does not always exist. In this paper we propose a new sampling requirement combining the maximal curvature, injectivity radius and convexity radius to guarantee the existence of Delaunay triangulation on 2-manifolds. After introducing the primal/dual efficient representation (PDER) structure [26], we develop a generalized PDER which not only represents Delaunay/Voronoi dual simply and efficiently, but also describes the surfaces with boundaries. Taking advantage of several operators for modeling and updating models, we employ generalized PDER to construct and operate Delaunay/Voronoi dual dynamically on smooth 2-manifolds. The generalized PDER is also a powerful tool for dual subdivision schemes. Many examples demonstrate the feasibility of our method and the generalized PDER.
