Abstract:We give a counterexample to Theorem 9 in [T.K. Subrahmonian Moothathu, Syndetically proximal pairs, J. Math. Anal. Appl. 379 (2011) 656--663]. We also provide sufficient conditions for the conclusion of Theorem 9 to hold.

Abstract:A gap in the proof of Theorem 3.5 in the paper ``A new iteration process for approximation of common fixed points for finite families of total asymtotically nonexpansive mappings". Int. J. Math. Math. Sci. vol. 2009, doi:<a class="link-https link-external" data-doi="10.1155/2009/615107" href="https://doi.org/10.1155/2009/615107" rel="external noopener nofollow">https://doi.org/10.1155/2009/615107</a>" is observed. The argument used on page 11, starting from line 8 from bottom to the end of the proof of the theorem is not correct. In this corrigendum, it is our aim to close this gap.

Abstract:In the present paper, we consider inexact proximal point algorithms for finding singular points of multivalued vector fields on Hadamard manifolds. The rate of convergence is shown to be linear under the mild assumption of metric subregularity. Furthermore, if the sequence of parameters associated with the iterative scheme converges to 0, then the convergence rate is superlinear. At the same time, the finite termination of the inexact proximal point algorithm is also provided under a weak sharp minima-like condition. Applications to optimization problems are provided. Some of our results are new even in Euclidean spaces, while others improve and/or extend some known results in Euclidean spaces. As a matter of fact, in the case of exact proximal point algorithm, our results improve the corresponding results in [G. C. Bento and J. X. Cruz Neto, Opttm., 63 (2014), pp. 1281-1288]. Finally, several examples are provided to illustrate that our results are applicable while the corresponding results in the Hilbert space setting are not.

Abstract:We provide here a counter-example to the second inequality of Corollary (19.10) in the Clay Institute Monograph by <a class="link-external link-http" href="http://J.Morgan" rel="external noopener nofollow">this http URL</a> and <a class="link-external link-http" href="http://G.Tian" rel="external noopener nofollow">this http URL</a> entitled "Ricci Flow and the Poincare Conjecture". We had announced the existence of this counter-example in our paper "Five Gaps in Mathematics", Advanced Non-linear Studies, vol 15, No. 2, (2015). We make the details available here. <a class="link-external link-http" href="http://J.Morgan" rel="external noopener nofollow">this http URL</a> and <a class="link-external link-http" href="http://G.Tian" rel="external noopener nofollow">this http URL</a> have recently (arXiv/math/DG:<a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="1512.00699" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/1512.00699">1512.00699</a>, (2015)) published a correction to their arguments in the monograph. Abstract:For a graph $G,$ let $\alpha(G)$ denote its second smallest Laplacian eigenvalue. The Laplacian Spread Conjecture states that $\alpha(G)+\alpha(\overline{G}) \geq 1,$ where $\overline{G}$ is the complement of $G.$ In this paper, we have corrected two conclusions: First, the necessary and sufficient condition for $\alpha(G) + \alpha(\overline{G}) \geq 1$ is $\parallel \bigtriangledown_{x} - \bigtriangledown_{y} \parallel^{2} \geq 1$ rather than $\parallel \bigtriangledown_{x} - \bigtriangledown_{y} \parallel^{2} \geq 2$ which has been proved in \cite{BS} as demonstrated in our study. Second, we show that the Laplacian spread of balanced digraph $\Gamma$ satisfies $LS(\Gamma) \leq n - \frac{1}{2}$ but not $LS(\Gamma) \leq n - 1$ in \cite{BCEHK}, since inequality $\parallel \bigtriangledown_{x} - \bigtriangledown_{y} \parallel^{2} \geq 2$ does not hold.

Abstract:Inexact proximal point methods are extended to find singular points for multivalued vector fields on Hadamard manifolds. Convergence criteria are established under some mild conditions. In particular, in the case of proximal point algorithm, that is, ε _n=0 for each n , our results improve sharply the corresponding results in Li et al. ( 2009 ). Applications to optimization problems, variational inequality problems and gradient methods are also given.

Abstract:This is an erratum to the article: "Computation of maximal projection constants" (J. Funct. Anal., 277). The statement of Lemma 3.1(2) of that paper is incorrect. As a consequence of this the proof of Theorem 1.4 is incomplete. In this erratum we prove a corrected version of Lemma 3.1 and explain why, with this weaker result, our original strategy for proving Theorem 1.4 no longer works. The other results of the article, in particular the alternative proof of Grünbaum's conjecture, do not depend on Lemma 3.1 and are thus not affected by this error.

Abstract:In the present paper, we study the finite termination of sequences generated by inexact proximal point algorithms for finding zeroes of a maximal monotone (set-valued) operator T on a Hilbert space. Under some mild conditions, we get that a sequence generated by inexact proximal point algorithm stops after a finite number of iterations. Our results extend the corresponding results in Rockafellar (SIAM J Control Optim 14:877–898, 1976 ). In particular, for optimization problems, our results improve corresponding results in Ferris (Math Progr 50:359–366, 1991 ). As applications, we obtain finite termination of projected gradient method.

Abstract:We found a counterexample to the conjecture of Karvatskyi and Pratsiovytyi concerning the topological type of the achievement set of an intermediate series (Proceedings of the International Geometry Center, 2023. <a class="link-external link-https" href="https://doi.org/10.15673/pigc.v16i3.2519" rel="external noopener nofollow">this https URL</a>). This conjecture is based on an analogy with the squeeze theorem from calculus. We also proposed an improved version of the conjecture, which this counterexample does not refute.
