Abstract:We study Vasiliev's system of higher spin gauge fields coupled to massivescalars in AdS_3, and compute the tree level two and three point functions.These are compared to the large N limit of the W_N minimal model, andnontrivial agreements are found. We propose a modified version of theconjecture of Gaberdiel and Gopakumar, under which the bulk theory isperturbatively dual to a subsector of the CFT that closes on the sphere.

Abstract:Assuming locality, Lorentz invariance and parity conservation we obtain a set of differential equations governing the 3-point interactions of massless bosons, which in turn determines the polynomial ring of these amplitudes. We derive all possible 3-point interactions for tensor fields with polarisations that have total symmetry and mixed symmetry under permutations of Lorentz indices. Constraints on the existence of gauge-invariant cubic vertices for totally symmetric fields are obtained in general spacetime dimensions and are compared with existing results obtained in the covariant and light-cone approaches.

Abstract:It is commonly accepted that the study of 2+1 dimensional quantum gravity could teach us something about the 3+1 dimensional case. The non-perturbative methods developed in this case share, as basic ingredient, a reformulation of gravity as a gauge field theory. However, these methods suffer many problems. Firstly, this perspective abandon the non-degeneracy of the metric and causality as fundamental principles, hoping to recover them in a certain low-energy limit. Then, it is not clear how these combinatorial techniques could be used in the case where matter fields are added, which are however the essential ingredients in order to produce non trivial observables in a generally covariant approach. Endly, considering the status of the observer in these approaches, it is not clear at all if they really could produce a completely covariant description of quantum gravity. We propose to re-analyse carefully these points. This study leads us to a really covariant description of a set of self-gravitating point masses in a closed universe. This approach is based on a set of observables associated to the measurements accessible to a participant-observer, they manage to capture the whole dynamic in Chern-Simons gravity as well as in true gravity. The Dirac algebra of these observables can be explicitely computed, and exhibits interesting algebraic features related to Poisson-Lie groupoids theory.

Abstract:In gauge theories with gauge groups containing more than one U (1) gauge group, it is possible to have kinetic mixing terms for the different U (1) gauge fields in the lagrangian. The physical consequences of these mixings are studied. It is shown that electromagnetic interactions are not affected by these mixing terms. The properties of interactions mediated by massive gauge bosons are modified however. Ways of eliminating the kinetic mixing terms are also discussed.

Abstract:The fermion propagator in an arbitrary covariant gauge can be obtained from the Landau gauge result via a Landau–Khalatnikov–Fradkin transformation. This transformation can be written in a practically useful form in both configuration and momentum space. It is therefore possible to anticipate effects of a gauge transformation on the propagator’s analytic properties. These facts enable one to establish that if a critical number of flavours for chiral symmetry restoration and deconfinement exists in noncompact QED3, then its value is independent of the gauge parameter. This is explicated using simple forms for the fermion–photon vertex and the photon vacuum polarisation. The illustration highlights pitfalls that must be avoided in order to arrive at valid conclusions. Landau gauge is seen to be the covariant gauge in which the propagator avoids modification by a non-dynamical gauge-dependent exponential factor, whose presence can obscure truly observable features of the theory.
Gauge Violation Spectroscopy in Synthetic Gauge Theories

Abstract:Recently synthetic gauge fields have been implemented on quantum simulators. Unlike the gauge fields in the real world, in synthetic gauge fields, the gauge charge can fluctuate and gauge invariance can be violated, which leading rich physics unexplored before. In this work, we propose the gauge violation spectroscopy as a useful experimentally accessible measurement in the synthetic gauge theories. We show that the gauge violation spectroscopy exhibits no dispersion. Using three models as examples, two of them can be exactly solved by bosonization, and one has been realized in experiment, we further demonstrate the gauge violation spectroscopy can be used to detect the confinement and deconfinement phases. In the confinement phase, it shows a delta function behavior, while in the deconfinement phase, it has a finite width.

Abstract:An elegant unified web for amplitudes of various theories was given by Cachazo, He and Yuan in the CHY framework a few years ago. Recently, similar web has also been constructed by Cheung, Shen and Wen, which relies on a set of differential operators. In this note, by acting these differential operators on CHY-integrands systematically, we have established the relation between these two approaches. Thus, amplitudes for all theories which have CHY representations, include gravity theory, Einstein-Yang-Mills theory, Einstein-Maxwell theory, pure Yang-Mills theory, Yang-Mills-scalar theory, Born-Infeld theory, Dirac-Born-Infeld theory and its extension, bi-adjoint scalar theory, ϕ^4 theory, non-linear sigma model, as well as special Galileon theory, have been included in the unified web rooted from gravity theory.

Abstract:Arkani-Hamed, Bai, He, and Yan (ABHY) discovered a convex realisation of the associahedron whose combinatorial and geometric structure generates tree-level amplitudes in bi-adjoint scalar theory. In this paper, we identify S-matrix of Yang-Mills theory with a scalar obtained by contracting the canonical form of ABHY associahedron with a multi-vector field (MVF) in the kinematic space. Components of this MVF are determined by the combinatorial structures that underlie the associahedron and Corolla polynomial that was introduced by Kreimer, Sars, and van Suijlekom (KSVS) in [2]. KSVS used the Corolla polynomial to obtain (at all orders in the loop expansion) the parametric representation of gauge theory Feynman integral from the corresponding Feynman integral in $\phi^{3}$ theory. Using the full power of Corolla polynomial, we then extend these results to obtain Yang-Mills one loop planar integrand by contracting the Corolla generated MVF with the canonical form defined by $\hat{D}_{n}$ polytope discovered by Arkani-Hamed, Frost, Plamondon, Salvatori, Thomas. We also demonstrate that KSVS representation of Corolla graph differential in the parametric space can be readily extended to "spin up" the curve integral formulae for $\textrm{Tr}\phi^{3}$ amplitude discovered in [3,4] and give an explicit construction of such formulae for tree-level and planar one loop gluon amplitudes.

Abstract:In this article, we provide a short review (written in Chinese) on the Bethe/Gauge correspondence. We first explain the basic idea in an explicit example of the correspondence between XXX spin chains and 2d $\mathcal{N}=(2,2)$ gauge theories. The connection between 4d and 2d will then be explored by comparing the instanton and vortex partition functions. We conclude this article by briefly mentioning the similarity in the integrability structure of 4d gauge theories and 2d ones from an algebraic aspect, and a potential relation between two different integrable systems.

Abstract:A bstract The amplituhedron determines scattering amplitudes in planar = 4 super Yang-Mills by a single "positive geometry" in the space of kinematic and loop variables. We study a closely related definition of the amplituhedron for the simplest case of four-particle scattering, given as a sum over complementary "negative geometries", which provides a natural geometric understanding of the exponentiation of infrared (IR) divergences, as well as a new geometric definition of an IR finite observable ( g, z ) — dually interpreted as the expectation value of the null polygonal Wilson loop with a single Lagrangian insertion — which is directly determined by these negative geometries. This provides a long-sought direct link between canonical forms for positive (negative) geometries, and a completely IR finite post-loop-integration observable depending on a single kinematical variable z , from which the cusp anomalous dimension Γ cusp ( g ) can also be straightforwardly obtained. We study an especially simple class of negative geometries at all loop orders, associated with a "tree" structure in the negativity conditions, for which the contributions to ( g, z ) and Γ cusp can easily be determined by an interesting non-linear differential equation immediately following from the combinatorics of negative geometries. This lets us compute these "tree" contributions to ( g, z ) and Γ cusp for all values of the 't Hooft coupling. The result for Γ cusp remarkably shares all main qualitative characteristics of the known exact results obtained using integrability.

A Puzzle About General Covariance and Gauge

Abstract:We consider two simple criteria for when a physical theory should be said to be "generally covariant", and we argue that these criteria are not met by Yang-Mills theory, even on geometric formulations of that theory. The reason, we show, is that the bundles encountered in Yang-Mills theory are not natural bundles; instead, they are gauge-natural. We then show how these observations relate to previous arguments about the significance of solder forms in assessing disanalogies between general relativity and Yang-Mills theory. We conclude by suggesting that general covariance is really about functoriality.

Higher Spin Gravity Amplitudes From Zero-form Charges

Abstract:We examine zero-form charges in Vasiliev's four-dimensional bosonic higher spin gravities. These are classical observables given by integrals over noncommutative twistor space of adjoint combinations of the zero-form master fields, including insertions of delta functions in the deformed oscillators serving as gauge invariant regulators. The regularized charges admit perturbative expansions in terms of multi-linear functionals in the Weyl zero-form, which are Bose symmetric and higher spin invariant by construction, and that can be interpreted as basic building blocks for higher spin gravity amplitudes. We compute two- and three-point functions by attaching external legs given by unfolded bulk-to-boundary propagators, and identify the result with the two- and three-current correlation functions in theories of free conformal scalars and fermions in three dimensions. Modulo assumptions on the structure of the sub-leading corrections, and relying on the generalized Hamiltonian off-shell formulation, we are thus led to propose an expression for the free energy as a sum of suitably normalized zero-form charges

Abstract:This note is an extension of [DZ23] there the supersymmetric vacua of three-dimensional $\mathcal{N}=2$ gauge theories with matter are shown to be in one-to-one correspondence with the eigenstate of $\text{XXZ}$ integrable spin chain Hamiltonians with open boundary conditions. We consider the $A_{2}$ quiver gauge theory, which is the simplest non-trivial quiver gauge theory, and $sl_{3}$ open $\text{XXZ}$ spin chain with diagonal boundary condition. We demonstrate the correspondence between the vacuum equations of different gauge groups and Bethe Ansatz equations with different boundary parameters. Not only that, but we furthermore push forward the program to the general $A_{r}$ quiver gauge theory.
