Abstract:In this paper we study germs of holomorphic foliations, at the origin of the complex plane, tangent to Pfaffian hypersurfaces - integral hypersurfaces of real analytic 1-forms - satisfying the Rolle-Khovanskii condition. This hypothesis leads us to conclude that such a foliation is defined by a closed meromorphic 1-form, also allowing the classification of the simple models in its reduction of singularities.

Analytic and algebraic integrability of quasi-smooth derived foliations

Abstract:We study integrability results for derived foliations in the holomorphic context. We prove a global integrability theorem by flat groupoids, as well as global algebraic integrability in the presence of a compact leaf with finite holonomy groups. These results are generalization to the derived (and thus singular) setting of well know results and constructions: integration of holomorphic foliations by smooth groupoid and global stability in the holomorphic situation.

Abstract:This article studies codimension one foliations on projective man-ifolds having a compact leaf (free of singularities). It explores the interplay between Ueda theory (order of flatness of the normal bundle) and the holo-nomy representation (dynamics of the foliation in the transverse direction). We address in particular the following problems: existence of foliation having as a leaf a given hypersurface with topologically torsion normal bundle, global structure of foliations having a compact leaf whose holonomy is abelian (resp. solvable), and factorization results.

Abstract:We use adiabatic limits to study foliated manifolds. The Bott connection naturally shows up as the adiabatic limit of Levi-Civita connections. As an application, we then construct certain natural elliptic operators associated to the foliation and present a direct geometric proof of a vanshing theorem of Connes[Co], which extends the Lichnerowicz vanishing theorem [L] to foliated manifolds with spin leaves, for what we call almost Riemannian foliations. Several new vanishing theorems are also proved by using our method.

Abstract:We study the singular set of a singular Levi-flat real-analytic hypersurface. We prove that the singular set of such a hypersurface is Levi-flat in the appropriate sense. We also show that if the singular set is small enough, then the Levi-foliation extends to a singular codimension one holomorphic foliation of a neighborhood of the hypersurface.

Abstract:We investigate the structure of smooth holomorphic foliations with numerically flat tangent bundles on compact Kähler manifolds. Extending earlier results on non-uniruled projective manifolds by the second and fourth authors, we show that such foliations induce a decomposition of the tangent bundle of the ambient manifold, have leaves uniformized by Euclidean spaces, and have torsion canonical bundle. Additionally, we prove that smooth two-dimensional foliations with numerically trivial canonical bundle on projective manifolds are either isotrivial fibrations or have numerically flat tangent bundles. This in turn implies a global Weinstein splitting theorem for rank-two Poisson structures on projective manifolds. We also derive new Hodge-theoretic conditions for the existence of zeros of Poisson structures on compact Kähler manifolds.

Abstract:In this paper we aim at the description of foliations having tangent sheaf $T\mathcal F$ with $c_1(T\mathcal F)=c_2(T\mathcal F)=0$ on non-uniruled projective manifolds. We prove that the universal covering of the ambient manifold splits as a product, and that the Zariski closure of a general leaf of $\mathcal F$ is an Abelian variety. It turns out that the analytic type of the Zariski closures of leaves may vary from leaf to leaf. We discuss how this variation is related to arithmetic properties of the tangent sheaf of the foliation.

Abstract:In this work, we study the geometric properties of spacelike foliations by hypersurfaces on a Lorentz manifold. We investigate conditions for the leaves being stable, totally geodesic or totally umbilical. We consider that $\overline{M}^{n+1}$ is equipped with a timelike closed conformal vector field $\xi$. If the foliation has constant mean curvature, we show that the leaves are stable. When the leaves are compact spacelike hypersurfaces we show that, under certain conditions, its are totally umbilic hypersurfaces. In the case of foliations by complete noncompact hypersurfaces, we using a Maximum Principle at infinity to conclude that the foliation is totally geodesic.

Abstract:We prove an extension criterion for codimension one foliations on projective hypersurfaces based on the degree of the foliation and the degree of the hypersurface, and we ensure, in some instances, an isomorphism between the corresponding spaces of foliations. We also present some examples of foliations that do not satisfy the extension criterion and do not extend.

Abstract:These lecture notes attempt to invite the reader towards the theory of singular foliations, both smooth and holomorphic. In addition to a systematic review of the foundations, and an attempt to put in order examples and several elementary constructions, we detail several recent tools developed for non-commutative geometry, in particular the holonomy groupoid of Androulidakis and Skandalis and various methods for resolving singularities. We also introduce various homotopic notions, and end with a series of open questions.

Abstract:Let $X$ be a smooth projective variety over the complex numbers and $S(d)$ the scheme parametrizing $d$-dimensional Lie subalgebras of $H^0(X,\mathcal{T} X)$. This article is dedicated to the study of the geometry of the moduli space $\text{Inv}$ of involutive distributions on $X$ around the points $\mathcal{F}\in \text{Inv}$ which are induced by Lie group actions. For every $\mathfrak{g} \in S(d)$ one can consider the corresponding element $\mathcal{F}(\mathfrak{g})\in \text{Inv}$, whose generic leaf coincides with an orbit of the action of $\exp(\mathfrak{g})$ on $X$. We show that under mild hypotheses, after taking a stratification $\coprod_i S(d)_i\to S(d)$ this assignment yields an isomorphism $\phi:\coprod_i S(d)_i\to \text{Inv}$ locally around $\mathfrak{g}$ and $\mathcal{F}(\mathfrak{g})$. This gives a common explanation for many results appearing independently in the literature. We also construct new stable families of foliations which are induced by Lie group actions.

The main techniques are the use of the Jacobi theta-functions and the construction of a new class of elliptic operators associated to foliations.

Abstract:Let $H \subset {\mathbb P}^n$ be a real-analytic subvariety of codimension one induced by a real-analytic curve in the Grassmannian $G(n+1,n)$. Assuming $H$ has a global defining function, we prove $H$ is Levi-flat, the closure of its smooth points of top dimension is a union of complex hyperplanes, and its singular set is either of dimension $2n-2$ or dimension $2n-4$. If the singular set is of dimension $2n-4$, then we show the hypersurface is algebraic and the Levi-foliation extends to a singular holomorphic foliation of ${\mathbb P}^n$ with a meromorphic (rational of degree 1) first integral. In this case, $H$ is in some sense simply a complex cone over an algebraic curve in ${\mathbb P}^1$. Similarly if $H$ has a degenerate singularity, then $H$ is also algebraic. If the dimension of the singular set is $2n-2$ and is nondegenerate, we show by construction that the hypersurface need not be algebraic nor semialgebraic. We construct a Levi-flat real-analytic subvariety in ${\mathbb P}^2$ of real codimension 1 with compact leaves that is not contained in any proper real-algebraic subvariety of ${\mathbb P}^2$. Therefore a straightforward analogue of Chow's theorem for Levi-flat hypersurfaces does not hold.

Abstract:In this paper, we study holomorphic foliations of degree four on complex projective space $\mathbb{P}^n$, where $n\geq 3$, with a special focus on obtaining a structural theorem for these foliations. Furthermore, for a foliation $\mathcal{F}$ of degree $d\geq 4$ with a sufficiently high $k^{th}$-jet, we prove that either $\mathcal{F}$ is transversely affine outside a compact hypersurface, or $\mathcal{F}$ is transversely projective outside a compact hypersurface, or $\mathcal{F}$ is the pull-back of a foliation on $\mathcal{F}^2$ by a rational map.

Abstract:In this work we use our previous results on the topological classification of generic singular foliation germs on $(\mathbb C^{2},0)$ to construct complete families: after fixing the semi-local topological invariants we prove the existence of a minimal family of foliation germs that contain all the topological classes and such that any equisingular global family with parameter space an arbitrary complex manifold factorizes through it.

Abstract:We investigate the relationship between the valuations of a germ of a singular foliation $\mathcal{F}$ on the complex plane and those of a balanced equation of separatrices for $\mathcal{F}$, extending a theorem by Mattei-Salem. Under certain conditions, we also derive inequalities involving the valuation, tangency excess, and degree of a holomorphic foliation $\mathcal{F}$ on the complex projective plane.

Abstract:In this article, we study the geometric properties of codimension one foliations on Riemannian manifolds equipped with vector fields that are closed and conformal. Apart from its singularities, these vector fields define codimension one foliations with nice geometric features, which we call Montiel Foliations. We investigate conditions for which a foliation transverse to this structure has totally geodesic leaves, as well as how the ambient space and the geometry of the leaves forces a given foliation into a Montiel Foliation. Our main results concern minimal leaves and constant mean curvature foliations, having compact or complete noncompact leaves. Finally, we characterize totally geodesic foliations by means of its relation to a prior Montiel Foliation.

On singular foliations tangent to a given hypersurface

Abstract:We consider a class of singular foliations in the sense of Androulidakis and Skandalis that we call transverse order $k$ foliations. These have a finite number of leaves: one hypersurface (the singular leaf) together with the components of its complement (open leaves). The positive integer parameter $k$ encodes the "order of tangency" of the leafwise vector fields to $L$. We show that a loop in the singular leaf induces a well-defined holonomy transformation at the level of $(k-1)$-jets. The resulting holonomy invariant can be used to give a complete classification of these foliations and obtain concrete descriptions of their associated groupoids and algebras.

Abstract:In this paper we review some author's results about singular holonomy of singular riemannian foliations with sections (s.r.f.s for short) and also some results of a joint work with Toeben and a joint work with Gorodski. We stress here that the condition that the leaves are compact, used in some of these results, can be replaced by the condition that the leaves are closed embedded. We also briefly recall some of Toeben's results about blow-up of s.r.f.s. Then we use this technique to get conditions under which a holonomy map can be extended to a global isometry.
