Abstract:Motivated by recent advances in the categorification of quantum groups at prime roots of unity, we develop a theory of 2-representations for 2-categories enriched with a p-differential which satisfy finiteness conditions analogous to those of finitary or fiat 2-categories. We construct cell 2-representations in this setup, and consider 2-categories stemming from bimodules over a p-dg category in detail. This class is of particular importance in the categorification of quantum groups, which allows us to apply our results to cyclotomic quotients of the categorifications of small quantum group of type $\mathfrak{sl}_2$ at prime roots of unity by Elias-Qi [Advances in Mathematics 288 (2016)]. Passing to stable 2-representations gives a way to construct triangulated 2-representations, but our main focus is on working with p-dg enriched 2-representations that should be seen as a p-dg enhancement of these triangulated ones.

Abstract:We study the classification problem of simple transitive 2-representations of the 2-category of finite-dimensional bimodules over a radical square zero Nakayama algebra. This results in a complete classification of simple transitive 2-representations whose apex is a finitary two-sided cell. We define a notion of localization of 2-representations. We construct previously unknown simple transitive 2-representations as localizations of cell 2-representations. Using the universal property of our construction we prove that any simple transitive 2-representation with finitary apex is equivalent to a localization of a cell 2-representation.

Abstract:We introduce the class of isotypic $2$-representations for finitary $2$-categories and the notion of inflation of $2$-representations. Under some natural assumptions we show that isotypic $2$-representations are equivalent to inflations of cell $2$-representations.

Abstract:Let $Q$ be a quiver of type $\mathbb{A}_n$ with linear orientation and $\operatorname{rep}(Q,\mathbb{F}_1)$ the category of representations of $Q$ over the virtual field $\mathbb{F}_1$.It is proved that $\operatorname{rep}(Q,\mathbb{F}_1)$ has global dimension $2$ whenever $n\geq 3$ and it is hereditary if $n\leq 2$. As a consequence, the Euler form $\langle L, M\rangle=\sum_{i=0}^\infty (-1)^i\operatorname{dim} \operatorname{Ext}^i(L,M)$ is well-defined. However, it does not descend to the Grothendieck group of $\operatorname{rep}(Q,\mathbb{F}_1)$. This yields negative answers to questions raised by Szczesny in [IMRN, Vol. 2012, No. 10, pp. 237-2404].

Abstract:We construct a family of unoriented 2-dimensional cobordism theories parametrized by certain triples of sequences. We also prove that some specializations of these sequences yield equivalences with an exterior product of Deligne categories. In particular, one of these specializations recovers the generalized Deligne category $\operatorname{Rep}(S_t\wr \mathbb Z_2)$.

Abstract:This article develops a theory of cell combinatorics and cell 2-representations for differential graded 2-categories. We introduce two types of partial preorders, called the strong and weak preorder, and analyse and compare them. The weak preorder is more easily tractable, while the strong preorder is more closely related to the combinatorics of the associated homotopy 2-representations. To each left cell, we associate a maximal ideal spectrum, and each maximal ideal gives rise to a differential graded cell 2-representation. Any strong cell is contained in a weak cell, and there is a bijection between the corresponding maximal ideal spectra. We classify weak and strong cell 2-representation for a class of examples associated to finite-dimensional differential graded algebras.

Abstract:We exhibit a correspondence between subcategories of modules over an algebra and sub-bimodules of the dual of that algebra. We then prove that the semisimplicity of certain such categories is equivalent to the existence of a Peter-Weyl decomposition of the corresponding sub-bimodule. Finally, we use this technique to establish the semisimplicity of certain finite-dimensional representations of the quantum double of sl_2 for generic q.

Abstract:In this paper we present $2$-category theory from the perspective of Gray-categories using the graphical calculus of separated surface diagrams. As an extended example we consider cones and limits of $2$-functors. Then we use the canonical adjunction between $2$-computads and $2$-categories to interpret the comparison structure of lax functors and extend the surface diagram calculus with compositor sheets in order to represent and reason about them.

Abstract:We study the structure of the category of representations of $\mathbf{FA}$, the category of finite sets and all maps, mostly working over a field of characteristic zero. This category is not semi-simple and exhibits interesting features. We first construct the simple representations, recovering the classification given by Wiltshire-Gordon. The construction given here also yields explicit descriptions of the indecomposable projectives. These results are used to give a convenient set of projective generators of the category of representations of $\mathbf{FA}$ and hence a Morita equivalence result. This is used to explain how to calculate the multiplicities of the composition factors of an arbitrary object, based only on its underlying $\mathbf{FB}$-representation, where $\mathbf{FB}$ is the category of finite sets and bijections. This is applied to show how to calculate the morphism spaces between projectives in our chosen set of generators, as well as for a closely related family of objects (the significance of which can be shown by relative nonhomogeneous Koszul duality theory).

Abstract:We reprove the classical Tannaka-Krein reconstruction theorem by finding a monoidal equivalence of categories between a 1-truncated sub-2-category of the slice 2-category ${\sf Mod}({\sf Vec})/{\sf Vec}$ and the category of algebras. We then immediately generalize this approach to find a monoidal equivalence of 2-categories between a 2-truncated sub-3-category of the slice 3-category ${\sf Mod}({\sf TwoVec})/{\sf TwoVec}$ and the category of algebras. As an immediate consequence, a finite semisimple 2-Hopf algebra $C$ can be recovered from its fusion 2-category of modules together with the monoidal fiber 2-functor to ${\sf TwoVec}$. Moreover, every fusion 2-category equipped with a monoidal functor to ${\sf TwoVec}$ is of this form.

Representations over diagrams of abelian categories II: Abelian model structures

Abstract:This is the second one of the serial papers studying representations over diagrams of abelian categories. We show that under certain conditions a compatible family of abelian model categories indexed by a small category can amalgamate to an abelian model structure on the category of representations. Our strategy to realize this goal is to consider classes of morphisms rather than cotorsion pairs of objects. Moreover, we give an explicit description of cofibrant objects in this abelian model category. As applications, we construct Gorenstein injective and Gorenstein flat model structures on the category of presheaves of modules for a few special index categories, and give characterizations of Gorenstein homological objects in this category.

On the Dualizability of Fusion 2-Categories

Abstract:Over an arbitrary field, we prove that the relative 2-Deligne tensor product of two separable module 2-categories over a compact semisimple tensor 2-category exists. This allows us to consider the Morita 4-category of compact semisimple tensor 2-categories, separable bimodule 2-categories, and their morphisms. Categorifying a result of <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="1312.7188" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/1312.7188">arXiv:1312.7188</a>, we prove that separable compact semisimple tensor 2-categories are fully dualizable objects therein. In particular, it then follows from the main theorem of <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="2211.04917" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2211.04917">arXiv:2211.04917</a> that, over an algebraically closed field of characteristic zero, every fusion 2-category is a fully dualizable object of the above Morita 4-category. We explain how this can be extended to any field of characteristic zero. Finally, we discuss the field theoretic interpretation of our results.

Abstract:In this paper, we study 2-representations of 2-quantum groups (in the sense of Rouquier and Khovanov-Lauda) categorifying tensor products of irreducible representations. Our aim is to construct knot homologies categorifying Reshetikhin-Turaev invariants of knots for arbitrary representations, which will be done in a follow-up paper. We consider an algebraic construction of these categories, via an explicit diagrammatic presentation, generalizing the cyclotomic quotient of the quiver Hecke algebra. One of our primary results is that these categories coincide when both are defined. We also investigate finer structure of these categories. Like many similar representation-theoretic categories, they are standardly stratified and satisfy a double centralizer property with respect to their self-dual modules. The standard modules of the stratification play an important role, as Vermas do in more classical representation theory, as test objects for functors. The existence of these representations has consequences for the structure of previously studied categorifications; it allows us to prove the non-degeneracy of Khovanov and Lauda's 2-category (that its Hom spaces have the expected dimension) in all symmetrizable types, and that the cyclotomic quiver Hecke algebras are symmetric Frobenius.

A geometric realization for maximal almost pre-rigid representations over type $\mathbb{D}$ quivers

Abstract:We focus on a class of special representations over a type $\mathbb{D}$ quiver $Q_{D}$ with $n$ vertices and directional symmetry, namely, maximal almost pre-rigid representations. By using the equivariant theory of group actions, we give a geometric model for the category of finite dimensional representations over $Q_{D}$ via centrally-symmetric polygon $P(Q_{D})$ with a puncture, and show that the dimension of extension group between indecomposable representations can be interpreted as the crossing number on $P(Q_{D})$. Furthermore, we provide a geometric realization for maximal almost pre-rigid representations over $Q_{D}$. As applications, we prove that each maximal almost pre-rigid representation will determine two or four tilting objects over the path algebra $\Bbbk Q_{\overline{D}}$, where $Q_{\overline{D}}$ is a quiver obtained by adding $n-2$ new vertices and $n-2$ arrows to the quiver $Q_{D}$, and we obtain a representation-theoretic interpretation of the type-$\mathbb{B}$ Cambrian lattices.

Abstract:Abstract inner automorphisms can be used to promote any category into a 2-category, and we study two-dimensional limits and colimits in the resulting 2-categories. Existing connected colimits and limits in the starting category become two-dimensional colimits and limits under fairly general conditions. Under the same conditions, colimits in the underlying category can be used to build many notable two-dimensional colimits such as coequifiers and coinserters. In contrast, disconnected colimits or genuinely 2-categorical limits such as inserters and equifiers and cotensors cannot exist unless no nontrivial abstract inner automorphisms exist and the resulting 2-category is locally discrete. We also study briefly when an ordinary functor can be extended to a 2-functor between the resulting 2-categories.

2-Segal maps associated to a category with cofibrations

Abstract:Waldhausen's $S_\bullet$-construction gives a way to define the algebraic $K$-theory space of a category with cofibrations. Specifically, the $K$-theory space of a category with cofibrations $\mathcal{C}$ can be defined as the loop space of the realization of the simplicial topological space $|iS_\bullet \mathcal{C} |$. Dyckerhoff and Kapranov observed that if $\mathcal{C}$ is chosen to be a proto-exact category, then this simplicial topological space is 2-Segal. A natural question is then what variants of this $S_\bullet$-construction give 2-Segal spaces. We find that for $|iS_\bullet \mathcal{C}|$, $S_\bullet\mathcal{C}$, $wS_\bullet\mathcal{C}$, and the simplicial set whose $n$th level is the set of isomorphism classes of $S_\bullet\mathcal{C}$, there are certain $2$-Segal maps which are always equivalences. However for all of these simplicial objects, none of the rest of the $2$-Segal maps have to be equivalences. We also reduce the question of whether $|wS_\bullet \mathcal{C}|$ is $2$-Segal in nice cases to the question of whether a simpler simplicial space is $2$-Segal. Additionally, we give a sufficient condition for $S_\bullet \mathcal{C}$ to be $2$-Segal. Along the way we introduce the notion of a generated category with cofibrations and provide an example where the levelwise realization of a simplicial category which is not $2$-Segal is $2$-Segal.

Abstract:We review Koszul duality in representation theory of category $ \cal O $, especially we give a new presentation of the Koszul duality functor. Combining this with work of Backelin, we show that the translation and Zuckerman functors are Koszul dual to each other, thus verifying a conjecture of Bernstein, Frenkel and Khovanov. Finally we use Koszul duality to give a short proof of the Enright-Shelton equivalence.

Abstract:We construct an explicit abelian model for the operation of tensor $2$-product of $2$-representations of $\mathfrak{sl}_{2}^{+}$, specifically the product of a simple $2$-representation $\mathcal{L}(1)$ with a given abelian $2$-representation $\mathcal{V}$ taken from the $2$-category of algebras. We study the case $\mathcal{V}=\mathcal{L}(1)$ in detail, and we show that the $2$-product in this case recovers the expected structure. Our construction partially verifies a conjecture of Rouquier from 2008.

Abstract:We prove a new symplectic analogue of Kashiwara's Equivalence from D-module theory. As a consequence, we establish a structure theory for module categories over deformation quantizations that mirrors, at a higher categorical level, the Bialynicki-Birula stratification of a variety with an action of the multiplicative group. The resulting categorical cell decomposition provides an algebro-geometric parallel to the structure of Fukaya categories of Weinstein manifolds. From it, we derive concrete consequences for invariants such as K-theory and Hochschild homology of module categories of interest in geometric representation theory.
