Abstract:We formulate a generalization of the extension problem for exact sequences which was considered in [SGA VII] and give a necessary and sufficient criterion for the solution to exist. We also remark on the criterion under which such a solution is unique, if it exists.

Abstract:We generalize a theorem of Bismut–Zhang, which extends the Cheeger–Müller theorem on Ray–Singer torsion and Reidemeister torsion, to the case of infinite Galois covering spaces. Our result is stated in the framework of extended cohomology, and generalizes in this case a recent result of Braverman–Carey–Farber–Mathai. It does not use the determinant class condition and thus also (potentially) generalizes several results on L2-torsions due to Burghelea, Friedlander, Kappeler and McDonald. We combine the framework developed by Braverman–Carey–Farber–Mathai on the determinant of extended cohomology with the heat kernel method developed in the original paper of Bismut–Zhang to prove our result.

Abstract:In this paper we investigate some methods on calculating the spaces of generalized semi-invariant distributions on p-adic spaces. Using homological methods, we give a criterion of automatic extension of (generalized) semi-invariant distributions. Based on the meromorphic continuations of Igusa zeta integrals, we give another criteria with purely algebraic geometric conditions, on the extension of generalized semi-invariant distributions.

Abstract:It is well-known that the generalized Auslander-Reiten condition (GARC) and the symmetric Auslander condition (SAC) are equivalent, and (GARC) implies that the Auslander-Reiten condition (ARC). In this paper we explore (SAC) along with the several canonical change of rings . First, we prove the equivalence of (SAC) for R and R / xR , where x is a non-zerodivisor on R , and the equivalence of (SAC) and (SACC) for rings with positive depth, where (SACC) is the symmetric Auslander condition for modules with constant rank. The latter assertion affirmatively answers a question posed by Celikbas and Takahashi. Secondly, for a ring homomorphism , we prove that if S satisfies (SAC) (resp. (ARC)), then R also satisfies (SAC) (resp. (ARC)) if the flat dimension of S over R is finite. We also prove that (SAC) holds for R implies that (SAC) holds for S when R is Gorenstein and , where Q is generated by a regular sequence of R and the length of the sequence is at least . This is a consequence of more general results about Ulrich ideals proved in this paper. Applying these results to determinantal rings and numerical semigroup rings, we provide new classes of rings satisfying (SAC). A relation between (SAC) and an invariant related to the finitistic extension degree is also explored.

Secant varieties of generalised Grassmannians

Abstract:The secant varieties to flag varieties $G/P$ are central objects in Tensor Decomposition. The natural group action they inherit allows one to reduce the study of local geometric properties to $G$--orbit representatives. The case of secant varieties of lines is particularly elegant as their $G$--orbits are induced by $P$--orbits in both $G/P$ and $\mathfrak{g}/\mathfrak{p}$. Parabolic orbits are a classical problem in Representation Theory, well understood for generalised Grassmannians. Exploiting such orbits, we provide a complete and uniform description of both the identifiable and singular loci of the secant variety of lines to any cominuscule variety, as well as of the second Terracini locus. We also show that non-cominuscule varieties behave differently.

Abstract:The main goal of this article is to formulate a notion, called a generalized GGP relevant pair, governing the quotient branching law for $p$-adic general linear groups. Such notion relies on a commutation relation between derivatives (from Jacquet functors) and integrals (from parabolic inductions), for which we provide both representation-theoretic and combinatorial perspectives. Our main result proves a duality on those relevant pairs, which is compatible with a dual restriction in branching law.

Abstract:By the work of Breuil-Hellmann-Schraen, we know that the trianguline variety contains crystalline companion points which are parametrised by pairs (w,w_sat) of permutations. We first define and study a certain combinatorial property of a pair (w',w) of permutations, linked to the Bruhat order, in the context of Weyl groups of root systems. We call good pairs the pairs satisfying this property (which is the vast majority of pairs) and bad pairs the other ones. We then give an exact formula for the dimension of the tangent space to the trianguline variety at (generic) crystalline companion points such that (w,w_sat) is a good pair. The method (due to Breuil-Hellmann-Schraen) is to first compute an analogous dimension for a local model of the trianguline variety built out of Grothendieck's simultaneous resolution. To achieve this, we prove a conjecture of Breuil-Hellmann-Schraen, describing the intersection of the closure of a Schubert cell with another Schubert cell on this local model (in the context of an arbitrary split reductive group), when this pair of cells is parametrised by a good pair of permutations. We give counter-examples to this conjecture for an infinite family of pairs of cells (associated to bad pairs).

Abstract:Consider a generalized Grassmannian G/P⊂P embedded in a projective space by a complete linear system of a positive generator of the Picard group. For a very general hypersurface H⊂P , we study subvarieties of G/P∩H that are not of general type (or not of positive geometric genus). When the degree of the hypersurface is not small, we show that, under a certain condition on the parabolic subgroup P , such subvarieties are union of lines. Our result is a generalization of Clemens-Ran's result concerning G/P=Pn .

Abstract:We extend the Brauer-Siegel theorem to new families of number fields, both in the classical setting of asymptotically bad families and in the more general framework due to Tsfasman and Vlăduţ of asymptotically exact families. We introduce a notion of Galois complexity for extensions of number fields, and show that the generalized Brauer-Siegel theorem, as conjectured by Tsfasman and Vlăduţ, holds for families in which the complexity does not grow too fast. This allows to unify and extend all previously known results. The crucial step in our work is the proof of a new version -- stated in terms of our Galois complexity -- of a fundamental principle due to Stark descending exceptional zeroes of zeta functions down to quadratic number fields. Among the hitherto unknown cases we are able to treat are the families of number fields contained in the solvable Galois closure of a given number field.

Codimension one intersections between components of the Emerton-Gee stack for $\mathrm{GL}_2$

Abstract:Let $p$ be a fixed odd prime, and let $K$ be a finite extension of $\mathbb{Q}_p$ with ring of integers $\mathcal{O}_K$. The Emerton-Gee stack for $\mathrm{GL}_2$ is a stack of $(\varphi, \Gamma)$-modules. The stack, denoted $\mathcal{X}_2$, can be interpreted as a moduli stack of representations of the absolute Galois group of $K$ with $p$-adic coefficients. The reduced part of the Emerton-Gee stack, denoted $\mathcal{X}_{2, \text{red}}$, is an algebraic stack defined over a finite field of characteristic $p$ and can be viewed as a moduli stack of Galois representations with mod $p$ coefficients. The irreducible components of $\mathcal{X}_{2, \text{red}}$ are labelled in a natural way by Serre weights, which are the irreducible mod $p$ representations of $\mathrm{GL}_2(\mathcal{O}_K)$. Each irreducible component of $\mathcal{X}_{2, \text{red}}$ has dimension $[K:\mathbb{Q}_p]$. Motivated by the conjectural categorical $p$-adic Langlands programme, we find representation-theoretic criteria for codimension one intersections of the irreducible components of $\mathcal{X}_{2, \text{red}}$. The methods involve two separate computations and a final comparison between the two. The first of these computations determines extension groups of Serre weights and the second determines all the pairs of irreducible components that intersect in codimension one. We show that a non-trivial extension of a pair of non-isomorphic Serre weights implies a codimension one intersection of the corresponding irreducible components. The converse of this statement is also true when the Serre weights are chosen to be sufficiently generic. Furthermore, we show that the number of top-dimensional components in a codimension one intersection is related to the nature of the extension group of corresponding Serre weights.

A Generalized Lévy-Khintchine Theorem

Abstract:The famous Lévy-Khintchine theorem is a beautiful limiting law for the denominators of the convergents of the continued fraction expansion of a real number. In a recent breakthrough, Cheung and Chevallier (Annales scientifiques de l'ENS, 2024) extended this theorem to higher dimensions. In this paper, we consider multiple generalizations of the definition of the best approximates of a matrix and prove analogues of the Lévy-Khintchine theorem for all these generalizations. A special case of our theorem answers a question posed by Cheung and Chevallier about Lévy-Khintchine type theorems for arbitrary norms. Another notable instance of our results resolves a conjecture of Yitwah Cheung. While our findings are new for higher dimensions, even in the one-dimensional case our work is a significant improvement over available results. Notably, we extend the results of Cheung and Chevallier by proving their theorems for any Birkhoff generic point and by permitting the best approximates to satisfy additional geometric and arithmetic conditions. Moreover, our main theorem, from which the above results follow, also extends the recent work of Shapira and Weiss.

Generalized Tanaka prolongation and convergence of formal equivalence between embeddings

Abstract:The works of Commichau--Grauert and Hirschowitz showed that a formal equivalence between embeddings of a compact complex manifold is convergent, if the embeddings have sufficiently positive normal bundles in a suitable sense. We show that the convergence still holds under the weaker assumption of semi-positive normal bundles if some geometric conditions are satisfied. Our result can be applied to many examples of general minimal rational curves, including general lines on a smooth hypersurface of degree less than $n$ in the $(n+1)$-dimensional projective space. As a key ingredient of our arguments, we formulate and prove a generalized version of Tanaka's prolongation procedure for geometric structures subordinate to vector distributions, a result of independent interest. When applied to the universal family of the deformations of the compact submanifolds satisfying our geometric conditions, the generalized Tanaka prolongation gives a natural absolute parallelism on a suitable fiber space. A formal equivalence of embeddings must preserve these absolute parallelisms, which implies its convergence.

Abstract:We prove the global triangulation conjecture for families of refined p-adic representations under a mild condition. That is, for a refined family, the associated family of (phi, Gamma)-modules admits a global triangulation on a Zariski open and dense subspace of the base that contains all regular non-critical points. We also determine a large class of points which belongs to the locus of global triangulation. Furthermore, we prove that all the specializations of a refined family are trianguline. In the case of the Coleman-Mazur eigencurve, our results provide the key ingredient for showing its properness in a subsequent work.

Abstract:In this paper, we conjecture an extension to Bressoud's 1996 generalization of Borwein's famous 1990 conjecture. We then state a few infinite hierarchies of non-negative $q$-series identities which are interesting examples of our proposed conjecture and Bressoud's generalized conjecture. Finally, using certain positivity-preserving transformations for $q$-binomial coefficients, we prove the non-negativity of the infinite families.

Abstract:Let $\xi$ be a $\tau$-invariant contact structure on $N(W) = \mathbb{R}_{\tau} \times W$ for a closed, $2n$-dimensional manifold $W$, so that each $\{\tau\} \times W$ is a convex hypersurface. When $n=1$, Giroux's criterion provides a simple means of determining exactly when $\xi$ is tight. It is an open problem to find a generalization applicable for $n>1$. This article solves an algebraic version of the problem, determining exactly when $(N(W), \xi)$ has non-vanishing contact homology ($CH$) and computing $CH(N(W), \xi)$ when it is non-zero. The result can be expressed in terms of homotopy equivalence of augmentations of the chain level $CH$ algebra of the dividing set or in terms of bilinearized homology theories, which we define for free, commutative DGAs over $\mathbb{Q}$. Our proof relies on the development of obstruction bundle gluing in the Kuranishi setting.

Abstract:Let $R$ be a ring and $\mathsf S$ be a class of strongly finitely presented (FP${}_\infty$) $R$-modules closed under extensions, direct summands, and syzygies. Let $(\mathsf A,\mathsf B)$ be the (hereditary complete) cotorsion pair generated by $\mathsf S$ in $\textsf{Mod-}R$, and let $(\mathsf C,\mathsf D)$ be the (also hereditary complete) cotorsion pair in which $\mathsf C=\varinjlim\mathsf A=\varinjlim\mathsf S$. We show that any $\mathsf A$-periodic module in $\mathsf C$ belongs to $\mathsf A$, and any $\mathsf D$-periodic module in $\mathsf B$ belongs to $\mathsf D$. Further generalizations of both results are obtained, so that we get a common generalization of the flat/projective and fp-projective periodicity theorems, as well as a common generalization of the fp-injective/injective and cotorsion periodicity theorems. Both are applicable to modules over an arbitrary ring, and in fact, to Grothendieck categories.
