Abstract:In this paper we prove that the Ziegler spectra of all serial rings are sober. We then use this proof to give a general framework for computing and understanding Ziegler spectra of uniserial rings up to topological indistinguishability. Finally, we illustrate this technique by computing the Ziegler spectra of all rank one uniserial domains up to topological indistinguishability.

Abstract:The Ziegler spectrum for categories enriched in closed symmetric monoidal Grothendieck categories is defined and studied in this paper. It recovers the classical Ziegler spectrum of a ring. As an application, the Ziegler spectrum as well as the category of generalised quasi-coherent sheaves of a reasonable scheme is introduced and studied. It is shown that there is a closed embedding of the injective spectrum of a coherent scheme endowed with the tensor fl-topology (respectively of a noetherian scheme endowed with the dual Zariski topology) into its Ziegler spectrum. It is also shown that quasi-coherent sheaves and generalised quasi-coherent sheaves are related to each other by a recollement.

Abstract:We introduce an analog of the Ziegler spectrum for maximal Cohen-Macaulay modules over a complete Cohen-Macaulay local ring. We define a topology on the space of isomorphism classes of indecomposable maximal Cohen-Macaulay modules and investigate the topological structure. We also calculate the Cantor-Bendixson rank for a ring which is of CM_+-finite representation type.

Abstract:We establish a bijection between torsion pairs in the category of finite-dimensional modules over a finite-dimensional algebra A and pairs (Z, I) formed by a closed rigid set Z in the Ziegler spectrum of A and a set I of indecomposable injective A-modules. This can be regarded as an extension of a result from $\tau$-tilting theory which parametrises the functorially finite torsion pairs over A. We also obtain a one-one-correspondence between finite-dimensional bricks and certain (possibly infinite-dimensional) indecomposable modules satisfying a rigidity condition. Our results also hold when A is an artinian ring.

Abstract:We study the real spectrum compactification of character varieties of finitely generated groups in semisimple Lie groups. This provides a compactification with good topological properties, and we interpret the boundary points in terms of actions on building-like spaces. Among the applications we give a general framework guaranteeing the existence of equivariant harmonic maps in building-like spaces.

Abstract:We integrate in the framework of the semilocal trace formula two recent discoveries on the spectral realization of the zeros of the Riemann zeta function by introducing a semilocal analogue of the prolate wave operator. The latter plays a key role both in the spectral realization of the low lying zeros of zeta--using the positive part of its spectrum--and of their ultraviolet behavior--using the Sonin space which corresponds to the negative part of the spectrum. In the archimedean case the prolate operator is the sum of the square of the scaling operator with the grading of orthogonal polynomials, and we show that this formulation extends to the semilocal case. We prove the stability of the semilocal Sonin space under the increase of the finite set of places which govern the semilocal framework and describe their relation with Hilbert spaces of entire functions. Finally, we relate the prolate operator to the metaplectic representation of the double cover of $\operatorname{SL}(2,\mathbb R)$ with the goal of obtaining (in a forthcoming paper) a second candidate for the semilocal prolate operator.

Abstract:Lessard's $\mathbb{Z}$-categories are an analogue of $\omega$-categories possessing cells in all positive and negative dimensions. Categorical spectra, developed by Stefanich, are an analogue of spectra obtained by replacing the suspension of pointed $\infty$-groupoids by that of pointed $(\infty,\omega)$-categories. We give an $\infty$-categorical definition of weak $\mathbb{Z}$-categories (alias $(\infty,\mathbb{Z})$-categories), and show categorical spectra to be equivalent to pointed $(\infty,\mathbb{Z})$-categories. In particular, we show that the stable cells of categorical spectra coincide with the natural cells of $(\infty,\mathbb{Z})$-categories, and recover Lessard's description of spectra as pointed weak $\mathbb{Z}$-groupoids.

Spectrum in alternative topological algebras and a new look at old theorems

Abstract:In this paper, we consider real and complex algebras as well as algebras over general fields. In Section 2, we revisit and prove several results on (quadratic) algebras over general fields. In Section 3, we show how to develop the spectral theory in the context of complex (resp. real) one-sided alternative topological algebras. As an application of the existence of spectrum, we prove the existence of nontrivial hyperinvariant linear manifolds for nonscalar (resp. nonquadratic) continuous linear operators acting on complex (resp. real) Fréchet spaces. Along the way, spectral theory is used to prove several topological counterparts of the well-known theorems of Frobenius, Hurwitz, Gelfand-Mazur, and Zorn. This is done, for example, in the context of left (resp. right) alternative topological algebras whose duals separate their elements. In Section 4, we consider real and complex algebras in various topological settings and reconsider and prove several results. For instance, it is shown that given a $ 1 < k \in \mathbb{N}$, on any locally complex algebra, there exists a unique nonzero vector space norm, say, $\|.\|$, satisfying the identity $\|a^k\| = \|a\|^k$ on the algebra. In Section 5, among other things, we revisit and slightly strengthen the celebrated theorems of Frobenius, Zorn, Gelfand-Mazur, and Hurwitz, and also give slight extensions of their topological counterparts, e.g., theorems of Albert, Kaplansky, and Urbanik-Wright to name a few, in several settings.

Eccentricity Spectra and Integral Eigenvalues of Zero Divisor Graphs

Abstract:In this work, we study the eccentricity spectra of zero divisor graphs (ZDGs) associated with the ring $\mathbb{Z}_n.$ While previous studies have examined the Laplacian and distance Laplacian spectra of ZDGs, the eccentricity spectra have remained largely unknown due to the unique features of the eccentricity matrix. More specifically, we prove that for a prime $p$, the ZDG and extended ZDG of $\mathbb{Z}_{p^t}$ have integral eccentricity eigenvalues for $t \geq 3$ and $t \geq 2$, respectively. We also find the eccentricity spectra for specific classes of ZDGs and the relationship between the eccentricity matrix of these ZDGs and their tree structures using matrix analysis tools. In addition, for the usefulness of the energy gap in applications, we have calculated the eccentricity energy gap of ZDGs. These findings reveal interesting behaviours of the eccentricity matrix and may contribute to a more profound understanding of the structural properties of ZDGs.

A Universal Property of the Spectrum of a Ring and the Semiring of its Ideals

Abstract:Arithmetic valuations are intimately connected with the structure of the ideals of a commutative ring. We show how the generalized idempotent semiring valuations of Jeffrey and Noah Giansiracusa can be used to make this connection explicit. Through this generalized valuation theory sufficiently complete positive valuations give rise to Galois correspondences with the lattice of ideals of a commutative ring. Up to isomorphism the semiring of ideals of a commutative ring can be defined as a universal factoring semiring for positive valuations. We then further show that this valuation theory can formally connect Joyal's \textit{notion de zéros} and universal property of the spectrum of a ring to arithmetic valuation theory. We show that up to isomorphism as a coframe, the closed Zariski topology on a spectrum of a commutative ring can be defined as the universal factoring semiring of additively and multiplicatively idempotent valuations.

Abstract:Consider the ring $C_c(X)_F$ of real valued functions which are discontinuous on a finite set with countable range. We discuss $(\mathcal{Z}_c)_F$-filters on $X$ and $(\mathcal{Z}_c)_F$-ideals of $C_c(X)_F$. We establish an analogous version of Gelfand-Kolmogoroff theorem in our setting. We prove some equivalent conditions when $C_c(X)_F$ is a Baer-ring and a regular ring. Lastly, we talk about the zero divisor graph on $C_c(X)_F$.

The Cuntz semigroup of a ring

Abstract:For any ring $R$, we introduce an invariant in the form of a partially ordered abelian semigroup $\mathrm{S}(R)$ built from an equivalence relation on the class of countably generated projective modules. We call $\mathrm{S}(R)$ the Cuntz semigroup of the ring $R$. This construction is akin to the manufacture of the Cuntz semigroup of a C*-algebra using countably generated Hilbert modules. To circumvent the lack of a topology in a general ring $R$, we deepen our understanding of countably projective modules over $R$, thus uncovering new features in their direct limit decompositions, which in turn yields two equivalent descriptions of $\mathrm{S}(R)$. The Cuntz semigroup of $R$ is part of a new invariant $\mathrm{SCu}(R)$ which includes an ambient semigroup in the category of abstract Cuntz semigroups that provides additional information. We provide computations for both $\mathrm{S}(R)$ and $\mathrm{SCu}(R)$ in a number of interesting situations, such as unit-regular rings, semilocal rings, and in the context of nearly simple domains. We also relate our construcion to the Cuntz semigroup of a C*-algebra.

Invariant prime ideals in equivariant Lazard rings

Abstract:Let $A$ be an abelian compact Lie group. In this paper we compute the spectrum of invariant prime ideals of the $A$-equivariant Lazard ring, or equivalently the spectrum of points of the moduli stack of $A$-equivariant formal groups. We further show that this spectrum is homeomorphic to the Balmer spectrum of compact $A$-spectra, with the comparison map induced by equivariant complex bordism homology.

Abstract:The character variety, which parametrizes reductive representations of finitely generated groups in $\mathrm{PSL}_2(\mathbb{R})$, has many compactifications. We construct a continuous surjection from the real spectrum compactification to the oriented Gromov--Hausdorff compactification of the character variety. For this purpose, we assign an orientation to the real trees appearing in the boundary of the real spectrum compactification using that the usual orientation on the circle is described by a semi-algebraic equation. Moreover, we show that the orientation on the real trees which appear in the boundary of both compactifications are well understood by the study of sequences within the character variety that converge toward the points in the boundary.
