Abstract:This paper is devoted to the lifespan estimates of small classical solutions of the initial value problems for one dimensional wave equations with semilinear terms of the spatial derivative of the unknown function. It is natural that the result is same as the one for semilinear terms of the time-derivative. But there are so many differences among their proofs. Moreover, it is meaningful to study this problem in the sense that it may help us to investigate its blow-up boundary in the near future.

Abstract:This paper is concerned with the upper bound of the lifespan of solutions to nonlinear Schrödinger equations with general homogeneous nonlinearity of the critical order. In [8], Masaki and the first author obtain the upper bound of the lifespan of solutions to our equation via a test function method introduced by [16, 17]. Their nonlinearity contains a non-oscillating term $|u|^{1+2/d}$ which causes difficultly for constructing an even small data global solution. The non-oscillating term corresponds to the $L^1$-scaling critical. In this paper, it turns out that the upper bound can be refined by employing an unified test function by Ikeda and the second author [5].

Abstract:This paper is concerned with a one dimensional (1D) derivative nonlinear Schrödinger equation with periodic boundary conditions \begin{equation*} \mi u_t+u_{xx}+\mi |u|^2u_x=0, \ \ x\in \mathbb{T}:=\mathbb{R}/2\pi\mathbb{Z}. \end{equation*} We show that above equation admits a family of real analytic quasi-periodic solutions with two Diophantine frequencies. The proof is based on a partial Birkhoff normal form and KAM method.

Abstract:In this manuscript, in the scaling critical case, a lifespan estimate of solutions to the Cauchy problem for non-gauge invariant semilinear semirelativistic equations is considered. The lifespan estimate is given by the modified test function method with a fractional Laplace operator. The main obstacle to obtaining the lifespan estimate is the non-locality of the fractional Laplace operator. To treat the non-locality, special test functions are introduced.

Abstract:In this paper we consider the initial-boundary value problem for the heat, damped wave, complex-Ginzburg-Landau and Schr"odinger equations with the power type nonlinearity $|u|^p$ with $p in (1,2]$ in a two-dimensional exterior domain. Remark that $2=1+2/N$ is well-known as the Fujita exponent. If $p>2$, then there exists a small global-in-time solution of the damped wave equation for some initial data small enough (see Ikehata'05), and if $p<2$, then global-in-time solutions cannot exist for any positive initial data (see Ogawa-Takeda'09 and Lai-Yin'17). The result is that for given initial data $(f,tau g)in H^1_0(Omega)times L^2(Omega)$ satisfying $(f+tau g)log |x|in L^1(Omega)$ with some requirement, the solution blows up at finite time, and moreover, the upper bound for lifespan of solutions to the problem is given as the following {it double exponential type} when $p=2$: [ lifespan(u) leq exp[exp(Cep^{-1})] . ] The crucial idea is to use test functions which approximates the harmonic function $log |x|$ satisfying Dirichlet boundary condition and the technique for derivation of lifespan estimate in Ikeda-Sobajima(<a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="1710.06780" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/1710.06780">arXiv:1710.06780</a>).

Abstract:This is the second part of a two-paper series studying the nonlinear Schrödinger equation with quasi-periodic initial data. In this paper, we focus on the quasi-periodic Cauchy problem for the derivative nonlinear Schrödinger equation. Under the assumption that the Fourier coefficients of the initial data obey an exponential upper bound, we establish local existence of a solution that retains quasi-periodicity in space with a slightly weaker Fourier decay. Moreover, the solution is shown to be unique within this class of quasi-periodic functions. Also, we prove that, for the derivative nonlinear Schrödinger equation in a weakly nonlinear setting, within the time scale, as the small parameter of nonlinearity tends to zero, the nonlinear solution converges asymptotically to the linear solution in the sense of both sup-norm and analytic Sobolev-norm. The proof proceeds via a consideration of an associated infinite system of coupled ordinary differential equations for the Fourier coefficients and an explicit combinatorial analysis for the Picard iteration with the help of Feynman diagrams and the power of $\ast^{[\cdot]}$ labelling the complex conjugate.

Abstract:In this paper, we overview the recent progresses on the lifespan estimates of classical solutions of the initial value problems for nonlinear wave equations in one space dimension. There are mainly two directions of the developments on the model equations which ensure the optimality of the general theory. One is on the so-called "combined effect" of two kinds of the different nonlinear terms, which shows the possibility to improve the general theory. Another is on the extension to the non-autonomous nonlinear terms which includes the application to nonlinear damped wave equations with the time-dependent critical case.

Abstract:By assuming certain local energy estimates on (1+3)-dimensional asymptotically flat space-time, we study the existence portion of the Strauss type wave system. Firstly we give a kind of space-time estimates which are related to the local energy norm that appeared in [13]. These estimates can be used to prove a series of weighted Strichartz and KSS type estimates, for wave equations on asymptotically flat space-time. Then we apply the space-time estimates to obtain the lower bound of the lifespan when the nonlinear exponents p and q >= 2. In particular, our bound for the subcritical case is sharp in general and we extend the known region of (p, q) to admit global solutions. In addition, the initial data are not required to be compactly supported, when p, q > 2.

Kubo & Osaka & Yazici [4] studied global solvability of the problem under different conditions on the nonlinearity and initial data, together with an upper bound of the lifespan for the problem. The aim of this paper is to improve the upper bound of the lifespan and to derive its lower bound which shows the optimality of our new upper bound.

Abstract:This paper investigates the combined effects of two distinctive power-type nonlinear terms (with parameters $p,q>1$) in the lifespan of small solutions to semi-linear wave equations. We determine the full region of $(p,q)$ to admit global existence of small solutions, at least for spatial dimensions $n=2, 3$. Moreover, for many $(p,q)$ when there is no global existence, we obtain sharp lower bound of the lifespan, which is of the same order as the upper bound of the lifespan.

Abstract:We prove local well-posedness for the periodic derivative nonlinear Schrödinger equation, which is (L^2) critical, in Fourier-Lebesgue spaces which scale like ({H}^s({mathbb {T}})) for (s>0). Our result is optimal in the sense that it covers the full subcritical regime. In particular we close the existing gap in the subcritical theory by improving the result of Grünrock and Herr (SIAM J Math Anal 39(6):1890–1920, 2008), which established local well-posedness in Fourier-Lebesgue spaces which scale like ({H}^s({mathbb {T}})) for (s >frac{1}{4}). We achieve this result by a delicate analysis of the structure of the solution and the construction of an adapted nonlinear submanifold of a suitable function space. Together these allow us to construct the unique solution to the given subcritical data. This constructive procedure is inspired by the theory of para-controlled distributions developed by Gubinelli et al. (Forum Math Pi, 3:75, 2015) and Catellier and Chouk (Ann Probab 46(5):2621–2679, 2018) in the context of stochastic PDE. Our proof and results however, are purely deterministic.

Abstract:For small-amplitude semilinear wave equations with power type nonlinearity on the first-order spatial derivative, the expected sharp upper bound on the lifespan of solutions is obtained for both critical cases and subcritical cases, for all spatial dimensions . It is achieved uniformly by constructing the integral equations, deriving the ordinary differential inequality system, and iteration argument. Combined with the former works, the sharp lifespan estimates for this problem are completely established, at least for the spherical symmetric case.
