Abstract:In this paper we introduce and study the concept of cyclic factorization number of a finite group G. By using the Mobius inversion formula and other methods involving the cyclic subgroup structure, this is explicitly computed for some important classes of finite groups.

Abstract:Let $G$ be a group. The subsets $A_1,\ldots,A_k$ of $G$ form a complete factorization of group $G$ if if they are pairwise disjoint and each element $g\in G$ is uniquely represented as $g=a_1\ldots a_k$, with $a_i\in A_i$. We prove the following theorem: Let $G$ be a finite nilpotent group. If $|G|=m_1\ldots m_k$ where $m_1,\ldots,m_k$ are integers greater $1$ and $k\geq3$, then there exist subsets $A_1,\ldots,A_k$ of $G$ which form a complete factorization of group $G$ and $|A_i|=m_i$ for all $i=1,2,\ldots,k$. In addition, we give several examples of building complete factorization for some groups and formulate one open question.

Abstract:In this paper, we introduce a kind of decomposition of a finite group called a uniform group factorization, as a generalization of exact factorizations of a finite group. A group $G$ is said to admit a uniform group factorization if there exist subgroups $H_1, H_2, \ldots, H_k$ such that $G = H_1 H_2 \cdots H_k$ and the number of ways to represent any element $g \in G$ as $g = h_1 h_2 \cdots h_k$ ($h_i \in H_i$) does not depend on the choice of $g$. Moreover, a uniform group factorization consisting of cyclic subgroups is called a uniform cyclic group factorization. First, we show that any finite solvable group admits a uniform cyclic group factorization. Second, we show that whether all finite groups admit uniform cyclic group factorizations or not is equivalent to whether all finite simple groups admit uniform group factorizations or not. Lastly, we give some concrete examples of such factorizations.

Abstract:On a cyclic group of prime order, the non-trivial Dirichlet characters together with their Fourier transforms have constant modulus outside 0 and vanish at 0. Answering a question of H. Cohn, we construct new functions with these properties. The proof relies on Floer homology. We also apply this method to the biunimodular functions problem.

Abstract:For a regular normal element in an arbitrary ring, we study the category of its module factorizations. The cokernel functor relates module factorizations with Gorenstein projective components to Gorenstein projective modules over the quotient ring. The results are vast extensions of Eisenbud's matrix factorization theorem.

Abstract:The factorization number $F_2(G)$ of a finite group $G$ is the number of all possible factorizations of $G=HK$ as product of its subgroups $H$ and $K$, while the subgroup commutativity degree $\mathrm{sd}(G)$ of $G$ is the probability of finding two commuting subgroups in $G$ at random. It is known that $\mathrm{sd}(G)$ can be expressed in terms of $F_2(G)$. Denoting by $\mathrm{L}(G)$ the subgroups lattice of $G$, the non--permutability graph of subgroups $\Gamma_{\mathrm{L}(G)}$ of $G$ is the graph with vertices in $\mathrm{L}(G) \setminus \mathfrak{C}_{\mathrm{L}(G)}(\mathrm{L}(G))$, where $\mathfrak{C}_{\mathrm{L}(G)}(\mathrm{L}(G))$ is the smallest sublattice of $\mathrm{L}(G)$ containing all permutable subgroups of $G$, and edges obtained by joining two vertices $X,Y$ such that $XY\neq YX$. The spectral properties of $\Gamma_{\mathrm{L}(G)}$ have been recently investigated in connection with $F_2(G)$ and $\mathrm{sd}(G)$. Here we show a new combinatorial formula, which allows us to express $F_2(G)$, and so $\mathrm{sd}(G)$, in terms of adjacency and Laplacian matrices of $\Gamma_{\mathrm{L}(G)}$.

On the number of exact factorization of finite Groups

Abstract:In this work, we study the function $f_2(G)$ that counts the number of exact factorizations of a finite group $G$. We compute $f_2(G)$ for some well-known families of finite groups and use the results of Wiegold and Williamson \cite{WW} to derive an asymptotic expression for the number of exact factorizations of the alternating group $A_{2^n}$. Finally, we propose several questions about the function $f_2(G)$ that may be of interest for further research.

Abstract:A topological group G is called M-factorizable (resp. R-factorizable) if every continuous real-valued function on G admits a factorization via a continuous homomorphism onto a first-countable (resp. second-countable) group. The purpose of this paper is a further study of M-factorizability in topological groups. It is shown that a topological group G is M-factorizable if and only if G has property ω-U, i.e., every continuous real-valued function on G is ω-uniform continuous. To achieve this goal, we introduce a new cardinal function of topological groups, which is called the fineness index. The cardinal invariance is also used to characterize Mm-factorizable groups which are generalization of m-factorizable groups introduced in [2].

Abstract:The aim of this paper is to determine the structure and to establish the isomorphic invariant of the finitely generated nilpotent group G of infinite cyclic commutator subgroup. Using the structure and invariant of the group which is the central extension of a cyclic group by a free abelian group of finite rank of infinite cyclic center, we provide a decomposition of G as the product of a generalized extraspecial ℤ-group and its center. By using techniques of lifting isomorphisms of abelian groups and equivalent normal form of the generalized extraspecial ℤ-groups, we finally obtain the structure and invariants of the group G.

Abstract:A group G is almost cyclic if there is an element x in G, such that for all g in G, there is an element y in G and an integer n with ygy^{-1} = x^n (that is, every element is conjugate to some power of x). W. Ziller asked whether there are finitely-presented almost cyclic groups which are not cyclic in connection with work on closed geodesics. V. Guba constructed an infinite (non-cyclic) finitely generated almost cyclic group. The principal results of this paper are: Solvable almost cyclic groups are cyclic, and one-relator almost cyclic groups are cyclic.

Abstract:For all Frobenius groups and a large class of finite multiply transitive permutation groups, we show that the corresponding group-subgroup subfactors are completely characterized by their principal graphs. The class includes all the sharply $k$-transitive permutation groups for $k=2,3,4$, and in particular the Mathieu group $M_{11}$ of degree 11.

Abstract:Abstract For most classical and similitude groups, we show that each element can be written as a product of two transformations that preserve or almost preserve the underlying form and whose squares are certain scalar maps. This generalizes work of Wonenburger and Vinroot. As an application, we re-prove and slightly extend a well-known result of Mœglin, Vignéras, and Waldspurger on the existence of automorphisms of p -adic classical groups that take each irreducible smooth representation to its dual.

Factorization Theorems for Relatively Prime Divisor Sums, GCD Sums and Generalized Ramanujan Sums

Abstract:We generalize recent matrix-based factorization theorems for Lambert series generating functions generating the coefficients $(f \ast 1)(n)$ for some arithmetic function $f$. Our new factorization theorems provide analogs to these established expansions generating sums of the form $\sum_{d: (d,n)=1} f(d)$ (type I) and the Anderson-Apostol sums $\sum_{d|(m,n)} f(d) g(n/d)$ (type II) for any arithmetic functions $f$ and $g$. Our treatment of the type II sums includes a matrix-based factorization method relating the partition function $p(n)$ to arbitrary arithmetic functions $f$. We also conclude the last section of the article by directly expanding new formulas for an arithmetic function $g$ by the type II sums using discrete Fourier transforms for functions over inputs of greatest common divisors and by suitably defined orthogonal polynomial sequences whose weight function we can define by a discrete time Fourier transform (DTFT) involving the partition function $p(n)$. There are numerous applications and special cases of our new results which we are able to cite as examples in the article. Particular cases of the applications we give in the article include new identities for Euler's totient function, the Ramanujan sums $c_q(n)$, the generalized sum-of-divisors functions, the Mertens function which is the summatory function of the Möbius function, and the cyclotomic polynomials.

As an application of the above considerations we give a proof of a weak version of the Shafarevich Conjecture.

Abstract:The paper describes a prime factorization of the Catalan numbers. Odd prime factors are distributed in layers in accordance with Legendre's formula. The content of each layer is a network of the intervals, Chebyshev's Segments. The primes of Segment are not calculated and are selected on the basis of its bounds. Layers contain non-repeated primes. Repeated factors are formed when primes are duplicated among different layers. The paper slightly modifies Kummer's theorem for the selection of individual prime factors, also starting from the boundaries of Segments. In conclusion, the reader is offered a software service for factorization of the Catalan number with index up to $10^8$

Abstract:We give a characterisation of factoriality of the groupoid von Neumann algebra $L(\mathcal{G})$ associated to a discrete measured groupoid $(\mathcal{G},\mu)$. We introduce the notion of groupoids with `infinite conjugacy classes' and show that this property together with ergodicity of the groupoid is equivalent to factoriality of $L(\mathcal{G})$.
