Abstract:In this paper local exact controllability to the trajectories for the one-dimensional monodomain equations with the FitzHugh-Nagumo and Rogers-McCulloch ionic models using distributed controls with a moving support is investigated. In a first step a new Carleman inequality for the adjoint of the linearized monodomain equations, under assumptions on the movement of the control region, is presented. It leads to null controllability at any positive time. Subsequently, a local result concerning the exact controllability to the trajectories for the nonlinear monodomain equations is deduced.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
This paper aims to study the local exact controllability of the one - dimensional nonlinear Monodomain equation under the moving control region. Specifically, the authors explore how to achieve precise control of specific trajectories in the cardiac electrical activity models through distributed moving control. These models include the FitzHugh - Nagumo ion model and the Rogers - McCulloch ion model. The key to the study lies in proposing a new Carleman inequality, which is applicable to the adjoint system of the linearized Monodomain equation and holds under the assumption that the control region moves. This inequality further leads to the result of null controllability, that is, the system state can be driven to zero within any positive time. Based on this, the authors derive conclusions regarding the local exact controllability of the nonlinear Monodomain equation. The main contributions of the paper are as follows: 1. **Proposing a new Carleman inequality**: Under the condition that the control region moves, the authors propose a new Carleman inequality, which is crucial for dealing with the heat equation with memory terms and problems with Neumann boundary conditions. 2. **Local exact controllability**: Using the above - mentioned Carleman inequality, the authors prove the local exact controllability of the nonlinear Monodomain equation under the appropriately moving control region. This means that through appropriate control inputs, the state of the system can be accurately guided to the desired trajectory. 3. **Combination of theory and application**: The research is not only of great theoretical significance but also provides a theoretical basis for the control of cardiac electrical activity in practical applications, such as applications in cardiac defibrillation and pacemaker design. In conclusion, this paper solves an important control problem in the cardiac electrical activity model by introducing new mathematical tools and methods, providing a valuable reference for research and applications in related fields.
