Abstract:We provide cross sections and Maxwell rate coefficients for reactive collisions of slow electrons with BeH$^+$ ions on all the eighteen vibrational levels ($X{^{1}\Sigma^{+}},v_{i}^{+}=0,1,2,\dots,17$) using a Multichannel Quantum Defect Theory (MQDT) - type approach. These data on dissociative recombination, vibrational excitation and vibrational de-excitation are relevant for magnetic confinement fusion edge plasma modelling and spectroscopy, in devices with beryllium based main chamber materials, such as the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) and the Joint European Torus (JET). Our results are presented in graphical form and as fitted analytical functions, the parameters of which are organized in tables.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
This paper aims to solve the problem of reaction dynamics in the collision process between low - energy electrons and BeH+ ions. Specifically, it provides the cross - sections and Maxwellian rate coefficients for the reactive collisions between slow electrons and BeH+ ions in all eighteen vibrational states (\(X1\Sigma^+, v_i^+ = 0, 1, 2, \ldots, 17\)). These data are crucial for the modeling of magnetically - confined fusion edge plasmas and spectral analysis, especially in devices using beryllium - based main - chamber materials, such as the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) and the Joint European Torus (JET). ### Specific problems solved by the paper: 1. **Provide detailed collision data**: The paper calculates the cross - sections and rate coefficients for dissociative recombination, vibrational excitation, and vibrational de - excitation of electrons with BeH+ ions in all vibrational states through the multi - channel quantum defect theory (MQDT) method. 2. **Promote plasma modeling**: These data are helpful for the modeling of the edge plasma in magnetically - confined fusion devices, especially for devices using beryllium as the wall material, such as ITER and JET. These data can be used to interpret the results of spectral measurements, thereby better understanding the behavior of the plasma. 3. **Fill the gap in experimental data**: Due to the high toxicity of beryllium, there is currently no experimental data on the collision between electrons and BeH+. Therefore, the theoretical calculation results provided in this paper fill this gap and provide an important reference for related research. ### Main contributions: - **Complete state - to - state information**: The paper provides the reaction collision data of BeH+ ions in all initial vibrational states, including the cross - sections and rate coefficients for dissociative recombination and vibrational transitions. - **Fitting formula**: In order to facilitate the use of these rate coefficients in kinetic modeling codes, the authors fit the rate coefficients using a generalized Arrhenius - type formula and give the fitting parameters. - **Temperature dependence**: The paper shows the variation of the rate coefficients with electron temperature. In particular, dissociative recombination is dominant at low temperatures, while vibrational de - excitation becomes more important at higher temperatures. ### Conclusion: This paper provides comprehensive state - to - state information for the modeling of magnetically - confined fusion plasmas, especially for the modeling under edge plasma and divertor conditions. These data are valuable not only for the fusion research community but also applicable to the modeling of any beryllium - containing plasma, including applications in laboratory experiments, industrial processing, and natural environments.
