Abstract:The moment of inertia (MI) is the first defensive line for power system frequency stability, and quantitative calculation of inertia is a necessary means to quantitatively evaluate power grid level of security. However, the development of the diversification of electricity usage poses significant challenges to inertia assessment, since the root of inertia is synchronous rotating machines which rarely present in load, making equivalent inertia of load (EIL) difficult to calculate. Due to large proportion of induction motors (IM) on the load side, it is necessary to explore their inertia characteristics. This paper firstly elaborates on the mathematical relationship between rate of change of frequency (RoCoF) and power system inertia, then puts forward the determination method of EIL, before qualitatively analyzing the characteristics and influencing factors of the equivalent inertia of induction motors. It is concluded that both external and internal factors do exist that affect. Lastly, tests considering overall EIL and equivalent inertia of IM are conducted through simulations with Prabha Kundur's model and hardware-in-loop regional power grid model. The simulation indicates that, EIL turns from negative to positive when inductive reactive power compensation power reaches 350Mvar; and F% increases approximately from 10% to 33% with R r increasing from 5% to 15%. As a practical basis, the proposed theoretical viewpoint is verified.
