Abstract:When the hybrid hydraulic excavator worked in a low load and high battery SOC value state, the maintenance of the engine working would cause unnecessary loss during energy conversion, therefore it was required to shut down the engine at this moment. Then a fuzzy logical control algorithm based on the engine on/off state switch was proposed for the hybrid hydraulic excavator. By comprehensively evaluated the current external load level, value of battery SOC and the duration of engine former state, the engine on-off state switch rules and trigger condition were established, also, parallel or pure electric driver system patterns was formed. By using MATLAB/Simulink to establish a dynamic mathematical model, the power system control performance and fuel consumption were analyzed after the application of the algorithm. The results showed that the fuzzy logic control algorithm had strong applicability for the external load changes, and the engine on/off state switch could reduce the redundancy of the energy conversion process, the machine fuel consumption when the excavator is in a low-load condition with high battery SOC.

Abstract:This paper presents a hybridization structure for the flow coupling of a hydraulic hybrid excavator. Multiple energy regeneration systems are used as the energy source for the hydraulic hybrid excavator. The flow-coupling structure is designed on the basis of practical working conditions and then integrated into a 23 ton excavator as the experimental platform to facilitate power system design and control studies. The initial constant-hybrid-ratio control is first examined using a simulation model to obtain the control performances of the main power source and the assistant power source, and the problems are then analysed to derive a two-step optimization. Prototype experiments demonstrate the effectiveness and feasibility of the flow-coupling-based hybridization structure of the hydraulic hybrid excavator. Test results indicate that flow coupling with an optimal control strategy results in an improved control performance and energy efficiency and can eventually increase the overall energy- saving effect to 10.1%.

Abstract:This paper studies the control system of self-excavated excavator, which is based on the working device of the small type loader. Firstly, the kinematics model of the working device is established by D-H method, so that the trajectory planning of the vehicle speed, boom oil cylinder and bucket oil cylinder drive equation is obtained. Combined with the advantages of PID control and fuzzy control, the fuzzy adaptive PID controller of the actuator is designed. Finally, the simulation model of the hydraulic system position controller is built in Simulink. The simulation results show that the displacement error of the actuator is within 0.5mm.

Abstract:The urban drainage system is complex. Flux and water lever of the system are affected by the people behaviors, rain and some other unpredicted factors such as channel leakage. But Sewage overflow may happen with improper control policy. And the system has the potential of saving power So a design of sewage pumping station fuzzy controller based on improved genetic algorithms is proposed And the mathematical model based on energy and network pollution minimizing is presented Improved genetic algorithms acquire the fuzzy rules of the fuzzy controller and optimize parameters. The design of fuzzy controller has been proved to have good robust with simulating calculation. Combining of the method proposed in this article with VVVF is more advanced than the traditional method with constant rate. Water level can keep unvarying at aimed water level and achieve that flux in equal flux out. It could achieve the double-optimal control goal of energy and pollution minimizing. Through simulating experiment, the system has good applied value.

Abstract:Optimization of the control strategy, whose primary mission is to solve the problem associated with energy management, is an effective way to minimize the fuel consumption of the hydraulic hybrid excavator. As a widely used control strategy, fuzzy logic control can be adopted to realize suboptimal power split with robustness and adaptation, which is one of the most logical approaches for multidomain, nonlinear and time-varying plant. However, the membership functions are difficult to determine according to manual experiences; meanwhile, the optimization-based membership functions are difficult to utilize in real time control. This paper aims to improve the fuel consumption of a hydraulic hybrid excavator by proposing a fuzzy control strategy whose membership functions are optimized by the genetic algorithm, which considers predicted torque of the internal combustion engine (ICE) as a known quantity to realize real time control. The needed torque of the ICE is predicted by superposition of the previous torque. A fuzzy logic control strategy is then designed with membership functions optimized by the genetic algorithm according to the predicted needed torque to achieve better performance. Finally, a numerical experiment is carried out to verify the proposed control strategy.

Abstract:The hybrid technology brought new opportunity to energy saving of a hydraulic excavator. However, the control strategy is hard to be determined because of the complexity of working condition and cyclic fluctuation of the load. As the dynamic-work-point control strategy can not optimize the main power source and the auxiliary one simultaneously, a new control strategy based on condition recognition and hybridization optimization was presented. It optimized the power distribution rate between the two power sources according to the load condition and the SOC (state of charge) of the battery. Experimental results show that the control strategy ameliorates the speed fluctuation of the engine, optimizes the working points of the engine and SOC of battery. Ultimately it improves the fuel economy of the hybrid hydraulic excavator.

Abstract:Due to the power transmission structures of the traditional excavators, the relevant methods can not help the distribution of working points of the engine. So a hydraulic hybrid technology and its control scheme was proposed herein. The working conditions were analyzed and the structures of hydraulic hybrid excavator were introduced. A parallel hydraulic hybrid system was chosen for simulation. The load of an actual excavator was used as input of the system. The parallel hydraulic hybrid excavator demonstrates that it can stabilize the engine speed, increase the efficiency and optimize the drivability.

Abstract:In position control system of hydraulic excavator, the uncoordinated speeds between joints make quite trajectory errors no matter how well each joint performs. In order to solve this problem, a cross-coupled pre-compensation method is introduced in and applied to hydraulic excavator servo control system to solve this problem. Furthermore, in order to compensate for the nonlinearities of excavator and friction resistance, a nonlinear controller with angle velocity error observer and acceleration feedback is designed. Experimental results show that the proposed control strategy is effective in improving tracking accuracy and response ability when subjected to external load.
Fuzzy decision based sliding mode robust adaptive control for bulldozer

Abstract:An automatic control strategy was proposed for bulldozer working device to improve working efficiency. The bulldozer blade position was optimized by fuzzy decision combined with human experience and experiments according to engine speed and its change rate. A sliding mode robust adaptive controller was designed to track the fuzzy decision values considering the characteristics of electro-hydraulic servo system. The recursive technique and state feedback linearization scheme were used to obtain a sliding mode controller. The system parameter update law was presented and a robust adaptive controller combined with sliding mode method was designed to accurately track fuzzy decision values based on Lyapunov stability theory. Experimental results show that the sliding mode robust adaptive controller has good robustness and remarkably improves the tracking accuracy. Fuzzy decision reasonably optimizes the desired blade position and improves the bulldozer working efficiency.

Abstract:As labor shortages and safety regulations become more prominent, the need for human-in-the-loop automation of excavators is increasing. To meet this demand, we have developed a comprehensive modeling method for the excavator arm using nonlinear optimization approaches, including a simplified model that maps the task space to the joint space, as well as an equivalent model that maps the joint space to the actuator space. These models were then used to build a feedforward-PID joint velocity controller and a joint trajectory controller combined with position feedback, which forms the core of our proposed semi-automatic control system for the excavator arm. Our deployment scheme is simple and efficient, and has been deployed on two excavators of different makes and sizes. Experiments show that our deployment scheme performs well on both excavators, with an average error of 0.05 rad/s for the velocity controller and less than 5 cm for the trajectory controller. Abstract:This paper is to study on a novel recovery and release hydraulic hybrid system for excavators (HHE). The HHE uses hydraulic accumulators to recover the potential energy of the boom, the kinetic energy of the swing motor and the overflow hydraulic energy of the excavator’s main relief. The recovered energy is then utilized through a variable hydraulic motor as assistant power of the engine. The key issue of the HHE is that the operation of the boom must be similar to the conventional one about the sensing of the driver and the system must achieve higher efficiency and save more energy when comparing with the conventional system. In order to improve the recovery efficiency and while controlling the boom velocity with the similar operation, one design concept named “microcut” is proposed. When the boom drops down fast, a proportional valve is used to control the boom. While the boom goes down slowly, the recovery system is cut off. Then, the multi-way valve of the original system works to ensure good handling. An experimental prototype is designed and built in a 21-tons excavator. A 16% fuel-saving effect is obtained by weighing engine’s fuel consumption with the same amount of work, under conditions of the similar operation and higher efficiency compared with the conventional excavator.

Abstract:During the passing decades,even though great progress has been made in hydraulic hybrid excavators with the development of hydraulic hybrid technology,there are still some shortages remained to be solved.For instance,the fuel efficiency is still low and the energy loss is huge.Concerning these issues,a kind of dynamic programming control strategy based on torque prediction,which is suitable for hydraulic hybrid excavators,is proposed.The excavator driving system is a closed hydraulic system comprised by displacement pump and cylinder.The power supply is consisted by engine and displacement pump/motor connected with accumulator,which work as main drive element and auxiliary driving device,respectively.And the driving system can be classified into parallel hydraulic hybrid system.The load characteristics of cyclic operating conditions of excavators are analyzed.The minimum length of sample to forecast demand torque is determined.The demand torque curve is divided periodically based on empirical mode decomposition and the predictive torque is obtained.The dynamic programming control strategy based on torque prediction is proposed.According to the simulation result,the maximum output torque of engine can be reduced by 28.9％,and the fuel consumption can be reduced by 32.5％ compared with the condition without control strategy.In addition,the pressure of accumulator can maintain the setting range.

Abstract:A virtual prototype of EFMC system in hydraulic excavator was constructed by analy-zing the control principle of EFMC system based on lastdruck unabh?ngige durch-fluss verteilung (LUDV)multi-way valve,the accuracy of flow matching was improved by adopting feedback closed-loop control method with real-time detection of oil cylinder speed signals.The dynamic and hydraulic models of EFMC system in hydraulic excavator were constructed respectively,and the co-simulation was conducted based on actual working conditions,the dynamic characteristics and energy-saving char-acteristics of mining operation process were studied,compared the experimental results with the tradi-tional LUDV load-sensing system,the results indicate that compared with the load-sensing system,the dynamic response characteristics and stability performance of the EFMC system are improved,and the pressure margin is reduced obviously,the energy efficiency is improved,also the dynamic response characteristics of feedback closed-loop control system are improved.Theoretical basis and reference are provided for further research on dynamic characteristics,energy-saving characteristics and stability performance in excavator.
Variable Gain Sliding Mode Control with Fuzzy Boundary Layer for Hydraulic Excavating Robot

Abstract:This paper studies the nonlinear control method for hydraulic excavating robot, which is a highly nonlinear variable structure system. Hence variable gain sliding mode control method with fuzzy boundary layer is proposed. Firstly, the nonlinear variable structure system model of excavator dipper is set up, and a fuzzy logic is prevented to adjust sliding mode boundary layer. Then, a variable gain is used to adapt the flow rate difference between two sides of cylinder. The variable gain SMC with fuzzy boundary layer is designed to drive the system into sliding surface in finite time and the asymptotical stability property is guaranteed. The results of simulation show that fuzzy boundary layer can get better performance and the variable gain makes controller obtain expected response both in extending and intending of cylinder.

Abstract:This paper presents a fuzzy tracking control methodology for hydraulic control system of robot with generalized pulse modulation (GPCM) control by combining the merits of fuzzy logic and conventional linear control theory. The hydraulic control systems with GPCM control have the high nonlinearity and uncertain dynamics, therefore the simple linear or nonlinear differential equations cannot sufficiently represent corresponding practical system. The designed controllers based on the model cannot guarantee the good performance such as stability and robustness. A hybrid of fuzzy and PID control algorithm is proposed as the solution. The control algorithm is separated into two parts: fuzzy control and PID control. The fuzzy controller is used to control the piston when the piston is near the desired position, and PID controller is applied when the piston is far away the target position. The hybrid fuzzy PID is implemented on computer and applied to control the arms of hydraulic robot with GPCM control. The results from the experiments show that the proposed hybrid fuzzy PID control has good performance. Copyright © 2002 by ASME.

Abstract:In this paper, fuzzy logic control is put forward in a parallel hybrid hydraulic excavator for the purposes of better energy distribution and higher fuel economy. A mathematical model of parallel hybrid hydraulic excavator is presented in detail, and the parameters of components and overall system are listed and analyzed. The fuzzy logic controller is then designed to cope with energy distribution and management. To achieve better equivalent fuel consumption, genetic algorithm is implemented to fine-tune the membership functions. The control effects are compared between different control strategies, e.g. rule-based control and fine-tuned fuzzy logic control. The results indicate that hybrids with the proposed strategy can improve fuel economy for the excavator without sacrificing any system performance.

Abstract:As the advances in computer control technology keep emerging, robotic hydraulic excavator becomes imperative. It can improve excavation accuracy and greatly reduce the operator's labor intensity. The 12-ton backhoe bucket excavator has been utilized in this research work where this type of excavator is commonly used in engineering work. The kinematics model of operation device (boom, arm, bucket, and swing) in excavator is established in both Denavit-Hartenberg coordinates for easy programming and geometric space for avoiding blind spot. The control approach is based on trajectory tracing method with displacements and velocities feedbacks. The trajectory planning and auto dig programis written by Visual C++. By setting the bucket teeth's trajectory, the program can automatically plan the velocity and acceleration of each hydraulic cylinder and motor. The results are displayed through a 3D entity simulation environment which can present real-time movements of excavator kinematics. Object-Oriented Graphics Rendering Engine and skeletal animation are used to give accurate parametric control and feedback. The simulation result shows that a stable linear auto dig can be achieved. The errors between trajectory planning command and simulation model are analyzed.

Abstract:This paper introduces the rapid automatic control module of trawler based on the hydraulic system of ‘Zhejiang fishery scientific research ship No.2’.The hydraulic simulation model of double motor winch system is built in AMESim software, and SIMULINK module in MATLAB software designed closed loop fuzzy PID controller for hydraulic system simulation. through fuzzy PID control technology drives the hydraulic winch to quickly adjust the tension of the traction, maintain the stable balance of the traction force, maintain the optimization of network horizontal expansion, not only improve the fishing efficiency, but also timely and effective protection mesh. the technical achievements formed by the research will enable small and medium-sized trawlers to adjust the tension under various working conditions through the fuzzy PID control system to stabilize the opening shape of the trawl, so as to improve the automation level and fishing efficiency of related trawling equipment, and provide technical support for precision fishing.

The intelligent excavation system comprises a controller module, a switch module, a positioning sensor module, a working device oil cylinder module and an intelligent calculation module, wherein the controller module is connected with the intelligent calculation module, the switch module and the positioning sensor module, and the switch module is further connected with the working device oil cylinder device. The intelligent excavation system of the hydraulic excavator can realize intelligent excavation of the excavator, and is high in working efficiency, low in cost and high in working quality.

Abstract:The electro-hydraulic flow matching control system with the electro-proportional valve and electro-proportional pump works in a synchronous control mode of the valve and pump.It eliminates the hysteresis between the pump and valve in the traditional load-sensing systems nearly.Closed-loop feedback control of pressure and preset pressure margin between pump and maximum load pressure are not needed.It reflects the combination of flexibility and efficiency of hydraulic systems,improving energy efficiency and control performance.The experimental prototype of 2-ton excavator with the electro-hydraulic flow control system is taken as the investigation subject.Energy consumption and dynamic characteristic are comparatively analyzed between the traditional load sensing hydraulic system and the electro-hydraulic flow matching hydraulic system.The controller with flow share capabilities is designed for electro-hydraulic flow matching control.Compared with the traditional load-sensing system,the electro-hydraulic flow matching hydraulic system has the same as with post compensation with anti saturation.The pressure margin is reduced by more than 0.6-0.7 MPa,and the energy consumption is decreased by 8%-10%.It can not only improve the dynamic characteristic and energy efficient,but also the system stability.
