Abstract:We introduce Ward identities for superamplitudes in D-dimensional N-extended supergravities. These identities help to clarify the relation between linearized superinvariants and superamplitudes. The solutions of these Ward identities for an $n$-partice superamplitude take a simple universal form for half-BPS and non-BPS amplitudes. These solutions involve arbitrary functions of spinor helicity and Grassmann variables for each of the $n$ superparticles. The dimension of these functions at a given loop order is exactly the same as the dimension of the relevant superspace Lagrangians depending on half-BPS or non-BPS superfields, given by $(D-2) L +2- N$ or $(D-2) L +2- 2 N$, respectively. This explains why soft limits predictions from superamplitudes and from superspace linearized superinvariants agree.

Abstract:Using field-theoretic formalism, we derive Ward identities for the diffusive transport of classical waves in disordered media of a quite general nature. We consider three cases: the scalar wave, the elastic wave, and the electromagnetic wave. For classical waves, it is the energy conservation that underlies the Ward identities, in contrast to the case of electronic systems, for which the Ward identity is a mathematical statement of charge conservation. For the three cases of classical waves, the Ward identities are of the same general structure, which differs from the electronic Ward identity and reflects the fact that energy transport, instead of charge transport, is accounted for in classical wave systems. The general structure of the Ward identities is seen to be independent of the details of the wave equations.

Abstract:The Ward-Takahashi identities are considered as the generalization of the Noether currents available to quantum field theory and include quantum fluctuation effects. Usually, they take the form of relations between correlation functions, which ultimately correspond to the relation between coupling constants of the theory. For this reason, they play a central role in the construction of renormalized theory, providing strong relations between counter-terms. Since last years, they have been intensively considered in the construction of approximate solutions for nonperturbative renormalization group of tensorial group field theories. The construction of these identities is based on the formal invariance of the partition function under a unitary transformation, and Ward's identities result from a first-order expansion around the identity. Due to the group structure of the transformation under consideration, it is expected that a first-order expansion is indeed sufficient. We show in this article that this does not seem to be the case for a complex tensor theory model, with a kinetic term involving a Laplacian.

Local Ward identities for collective excitations in fermionic systems with spontaneously broken symmetries

Abstract:We derive Ward identities for fermionic systems exhibiting a gauge symmetry that gets globally broken. In particular, we focus on the relation that connects the gauge field response functions to the transverse susceptibilities of the order parameter. We find that the long-wavelength and zero energy limit of the former are related to the coefficients of a low-energy expansion of the latter. We examine three physical cases: the superconductor, the Néel antiferromagnet and the spiral magnet. In the case of a metallic spiral magnet that completely breaks the SU(2) spin symmetry we explicitly show that the Ward identities are fulfilled within the random phase approximation. We subsequently derive microscopic expressions for the spin stiffnesses and spin wave velocities, which can be plugged into low energy models to study the effect of long-wavelength bosonic fluctuations on top of mean-field solutions.

Abstract:Quantum error correcting codes enable the information contained in a quantum state to be protected from decoherence due to external perturbations. Applied to NMR, quantum coding does not alter normal relaxation, but rather converts the state of a ``data'' spin into multiple quantum coherences involving additional ancilla spins. These multiple quantum coherences relax at differing rates, thus permitting the original state of the data to be approximately reconstructed by mixing them together in an appropriate fashion. This paper describes the operation of a simple, three-bit quantum code in the product operator formalism, and uses geometric algebra methods to obtain the error-corrected decay curve in the presence of arbitrary correlations in the external random fields. These predictions are confirmed in both the totally correlated and uncorrelated cases by liquid-state NMR experiments on 13C-labeled alanine, using gradient-diffusion methods to implement these idealized decoherence models. Quantum error correction in weakly polarized systems requires that the ancilla spins be prepared in a pseudo-pure state relative to the data spin, which entails a loss of signal that exceeds any potential gain through error correction. Nevertheless, this study shows that quantum coding can be used to validate theoretical decoherence mechanisms, and to provide detailed information on correlations in the underlying NMR relaxation dynamics.

Abstract:We derive the new identity in homotopy algebras which directly corresponds to the Schwinger-Dyson equations in quantum field theory. As an application, we derive the Ward-Takahashi identities. We demonstrate that the Ward-Takahashi identities are reproduced in several examples. In general, our formula contains divergence. We mediate this problem by introducing stubs known in the context of string field theory. With the regularization, we can calculate the anomaly such as axial U(1) anomaly in vector-like U(1) gauge theory.

Abstract:The Ward identity in gauge theory constrains the behavior of the amplitudes. We discuss the Ward identity for amplitudes with a pair of shifted lines with complex momenta. This will induce a recursion relation identical to BCFW recursion relations at the finite poles of the complexified amplitudes. Furthermore, according to the Ward identity, it is also possible to transform the boundary term into a simple form, which can be obtained by a new recursion relation. For the amplitude with one off-shell line in pure Yang-Mills theory, we find this technique is effective for obtaining the amplitude even when there are boundary contributions.

Abstract:Recently Nieh et al. [Phys. Rev. E 57, 1145 (1998)] have considered a version of derivation of the Ward identities for scalar and vector classical wave field propagation in random media and noted that their results are in contradiction with those obtained by Barabanenkov and Ozrin [Phys. Lett. A 154, 38 (1991)]. In this Comment we show that the derivation given by Nieh et al. is based on an incorrect equation for the energy-vertex function where the term that takes into account the contributions of the scatterer polarization to the field energy is lost. Restoring this term removes the above-noted contradiction.
On multipoint Ward identities for superconformal line defects

Abstract:Superconformal Ward identities are revisited in the context of superconformal line defects. Multipoint correlators of topological operators inserted on superconformal lines are studied. In particular, it is known that protected operators preserving enough of the supersymmetry become topological after performing a topological twist. By definition, such a correlator is constant in the topological limit. By analysing the topological constraint on the OPE of such operators, the correlator is further constrained away from this limit. The constraints on multipoint correlators match the known superconformal Ward identities in the case of 4-point functions. This allows for an simple and universal derivation of the superconformal Ward identities governing the multipoint correlation functions of such operators. This concept is illustrated by 1/2-BPS operators with an $su(2)$ R-symmetry and further explored in the case of the displacement multiplet on the 1/2-BPS Wilson line in 4d $\mathcal{N}=4$ super Yang-Mills theory supporting the conjectured multipoint Ward identities in the literature.

Abstract:We develop Ward-Takahashi identities to include composite fields and utilize them to study gauge symmetry dynamical breaking in Abelian theory. In terms of the equivalence between elementary field description and the composite held description, we obtain a matching condition. The mechanism of mass generation and the mass spectra are investigated in Cornwall-Norton, Jackiw-Johnson, and Schwinger models. The gauge boson masses are in agreement with previous works; meanwhile the composite Higgs boson and decay constant F-pi, which have not been obtained in previous works and other methods, can be easily obtained. It turns out that this approach can be easily applied to study not only the mass generation of fermion and gauge bosons, but also that of composite fields.

Abstract:Scalar-tensor theories of gravity are considered to be competitors to Einstein's theory of general relativity for the description of classical gravity, as they are used to build feasible models for cosmic inflation. These theories can be formulated both in the Jordan and Einstein frame, which are related by a Weyl transformation with a field transformation, known together as a frame transformation. These theories formulated in the above two frames are often considered to be equivalent from the point of view of classical theory. However, this is no longer true from the quantum field theoretical perspective. In the present article, we show that the Ward identities derived in the above two frames are not connected through the frame transformation. This shows that the quantum field theories formulated in these two frames are not equivalent to each other. Moreover, this inequivalence is also shown by comparing the effective actions derived in these two frames.

Ward Identity and Homes' Law in a Holographic Superconductor with Momentum Relaxation

Abstract:We study three properties of a holographic superconductor related to conductivities, where momentum relaxation plays an important role. First, we find that there are constraints between electric, thermoelectric and thermal conductivities. The constraints are analytically derived by the Ward identities regarding diffeomorphism from field theory perspective. We confirm them by numerically computing all two-point functions from holographic perspective. Second, we investigate Homes' law and Uemura's law for various high-temperature and conventional superconductors. They are empirical and (material independent) universal relations between the superfluid density at zero temperature, the transition temperature, and the electric DC conductivity right above the transition temperature. In our model, it turns out that the Homes' law does not hold but the Uemura's law holds at small momentum relaxation related to coherent metal regime. Third, we explicitly show that the DC electric conductivity is finite for a neutral scalar instability while it is infinite for a complex scalar instability. This shows that the neutral scalar instability has nothing to do with superconductivity as expected.

Abstract:The dual relationship between the supergravity in the anti-de Sitter (AdS) space and the superconformal field theory is discussed in the simplest form. We show that a topological Ward identity holds in the three dimensional Chern–Simons gravity. In this simple case the proposed dual relationship can be understood as the topological Ward identity. Extensions to the supersymmetric theories and higher dimensional ones are also briefly discussed.

Abstract:Anomalies in transverse Ward--Takahashi identities are studied, allowing discussion of the feasibility of anomalies arising in general non-symmetry Ward--Takahashi identities. We adopt the popular Fujikawa's method and rigorous dimensional renormalization to verify the existence of transverse anomalies to one-loop order and any loop order, respectively. The arbitrariness of coefficients of transverse anomalies is revealed, and a way out is also proposed after relating transverse anomalies to Schwinger terms and comparing symmetry and non-symmetry anomalies. Papers that claim the non-existence of transverse anomalies are reviewed to find anomalies hidden in their approaches. The role played by transverse anomalies is discussed.

Abstract:This paper aims to study the functional renormalization group for quantum $(2+p)$-spin dynamics of a $N$-vector $\textbf{x}\in \mathbb{R}^N$. By fixing the gauge symmetry in the construction of the FRG, that breaks the $O(N)$-symmetry and deriving the corresponding non-trivial Ward identity we can: In the first time coarse grain and focus on this study using a more attractive method such as the effective vertex expansion, and in the second time explore this model beyond the symmetry phase. We show finite scale singularities due to the disorder, interpreted as the signal in the perturbation theory. The unconventional renormalization group approach is based on coarse-graining over the eigenvalues of matrix-like disorder, viewed as an effective kinetic term, with an eigenvalue distribution following a deterministic law in the large $N$ limit. As an illustration, the case where $p=3$ is scrutinized.
