Abstract:We provide a non-recursive, combinatorial classification of multiplicity-free skew Schur polynomials. These polynomials are $GL_n$, and $SL_n$, characters of the skew Schur modules. Our result extends work of H. Thomas--A. Yong, and C. Gutschwager, in which they classify the multiplicity-free skew Schur functions.

Abstract:We introduce the multiple zeta functions with structures similar to those of symmetric functions such as Schur $P$-, Schur $Q$-, symplectic and orthogonal functions in the representation theory. We first consider their basic properties such as a domain of absolute convergence. And then by restricting to the truncated multiple zeta functions, we obtain the pfaffian expression of the Schur $Q$-multiple zeta functions, the sum formula for Schur $P$- and Schur $Q$-multiple zeta functions, the determinant expressions of symplectic and orthogonal Schur multiple zeta functions under an assumption on variables. Finally, we generalize those to the quasi-symmetric functions.

Abstract:We provide special values of $K$-theoretic Schur $P$- and $Q$-functions. Using these special values, we show the odd property of the number of shifted set-valued tableaux. Additionally, we generalize these special values to skew cases. Based on these special values, we demonstrate the odd property of the number of shifted skew set-valued tableaux and that they form pairs.

Abstract:In this work, multiplicities of zeros of skew polynomials are studied. Two distinct definitions are considered: First, $ a $ is said to be a zero of $ F $ of multiplicity $ r $ if $ (x-a)^r $ divides $ F $ on the right; second, $ a $ is said to be a zero of $ F $ of multiplicity $ r $ if some skew polynomial $ P = (x-a_r) \cdots (x-a_2) (x-a_1) $, having $ a_1 = a $ as its only right zero, divides $ F $ on the right. Neither of these two notions implies the other for general skew polynomials. We show that, in the first case, Lam and Leroy's concept of P-independence does not behave naturally, whereas a union theorem still holds. In contrast, we show that P-independence behaves naturally for the second notion of multiplicities. As a consequence, we provide extensions of classical commutative results to general skew polynomials. These include: (1) The upper bound on the number of (P-independent) zeros (counting multiplicities) of a skew polynomial by its degree, and (2) The equivalence of P-independence, Hermite interpolation and the invertibility of confluent Vandermonde matrices (for which we introduce skew polynomial Hasse derivatives).

Abstract:By embedding the Hecke algebra $\check H_q$ of type $D$ into the Hecke algebra $H_{q,1}$ of type $B$ with unequal parameters $(q,1)$, the $q$-Schur algebras $S^\kappa_q(n,r)$ of type $D$ is naturally defined as the endomorphism algebra of the tensor space with the $\check H_q$-action restricted from the $H_{q,1}$-action that defines the $(q,1)$-Schur algebra $S^\jmath_{q,1}(n,r)$ of type $B$. We investigate the algebras $S^\jmath_{q,1}(n,r)$ and $S^\kappa_q(n,r)$ both algebraically and geometrically and describe their standard bases, dimension formulas and weight idempotents. Most importantly, we use the geometrically derived two sets of the fundamental multiplication formulas in $S^\jmath_{q,1}(n,r)$ to derive multi-sets (9 sets in total!) of the fundamental multiplication formulas in $S^\kappa_q(n,r)$.

Pfaffian Formulation of Schur's $Q$-functions

Abstract:We introduce a Pfaffian formula that extends Schur's $Q$-functions $Q_\lambda$ to be indexed by compositions $\lambda$ with negative parts. This formula makes the Pfaffian construction more consistent with other constructions, such as the Young tableau and Vertex Operator constructions. With this construction, we develop a proof technique involving decomposing $Q_\lambda$ into sums indexed by partitions with removed parts. Consequently, we are able to prove several identities of Schur's $Q$-functions using only simple algebraic methods.

Abstract:We study k-Schur functions characterized by k-tableaux, proving combinatorial properties such as a k-Pieri rule and a k-conjugation. This new approach relies on developing the theory of k-tableaux, and includes the introduction of a weight-permuting involution on these tableaux that generalizes the Bender-Knuth involution. This work lays the groundwork needed to prove that the set of k-Schur Littlewood-Richardson coefficients contains the 3-point Gromov-Witten invariants; structure constants for the quantum cohomology ring.

Abstract:We investigate products of certain double cosets for the symmetric group and use the findings to derive some multiplication formulas for q-Schur superalgebras. This gives a combinatorialisation of the relative norm approach developed by the first two authors. We then give several applications of the multiplication formulas, including the matrix representation of the regular representation and a semisimplicity criterion for q-Schur superalgebras. We also construct infinitesimal and little q-Schur superalgebras directly from the multiplication formulas and develop their semisimplicity criteria.

Abstract:Building on the work [18], where some standard basis for the queer $q$-Schur superalgebra $\mathcal{Q}_q(n,r;R)$ is defined by a labelling set of matrices and their associated double coset representatives, we investigate the matrix representation of the regular module of $\mathcal{Q}_q(n,r;R)$ with respect to this basis. More precisely, we derive explicitly (resp., partial explicitly) the multiplication formulas of the basis elements by certain even (resp., odd) generators of a queer $q$-Schur superalgebra. These multiplication formulas are highly technical to derive, especially in the odd case. It requires to discover many multiplication (or commutation) formulas in the Hecke--Clifford algebra $\mathcal{H}_{r,R}^c$ associated with the labelling matrices. For example, for a given such a labelling matrix $A^{\!\star}$, there are several matrices $w(A)$, $\sigma(A), \widetilde A$, and $\widehat A$ associated with the base matrix $A$ of $A^{\!\star}$, where $w(A)$ is used to compute a reduced expression of the distinguished double coset representatives $d_A$, and the other matrices are used to describe the permutation $d_A$ and the SDP (commutation) condition between $T_{d_A}$ and generators of the Clifford subsuperalgebra. With these multiplication formulas, we will construct a new realisation of the quantum queer supergroup in a forthcoming paper [13], and to give new applications to the integral Schur--Olshanski duality and its associated representation theory at roots of unity.

A classification of nonzero skew immaculate functions

Abstract:This article presents conditions under which the skewed version of immaculate noncommutative symmetric functions are nonzero. The work is motivated by the quest to determine when the matrix definition of a skew immaculate function aligns with the Hopf algberaic definition. We describe a necessary condition for a skew immaculate function to include a non-zero term, as well as a sufficient condition for there to be at least one non-zero term that survives any cancellation. We bring in several classical theorems such as the Pigeonhole Principle from combinatorics and Hall's Matching Theorem from graph theory to prove our theorems.

Identity between Restricted Cauchy Sums for the $q$-Whittaker and Skew Schur Polynomials

Abstract:The Cauchy identities play an important role in the theory of symmetric functions. It is known that Cauchy sums for the $q$-Whittaker and the skew Schur polynomials produce the same factorized expressions modulo a $q$-Pochhammer symbol. We consider the sums with restrictions on the length of the first rows for labels of both polynomials and prove an identity which relates them. The proof is based on techniques from integrable probability: we rewrite the identity in terms of two probability measures: the $q$-Whittaker measure and the periodic Schur measure. The relation follows by comparing their Fredholm determinant formulas.

Abstract:We prove that the Schubert structure constants of the quantum $K$-theory ring of any minuscule flag variety or quadric hypersurface have signs that alternate with codimension. We also prove that the powers of the deformation parameter $q$ that occur in the product of two Schubert classes in the quantum cohomology or quantum $K$-theory ring of a cominuscule flag variety form an integer interval. Our proofs are based on several new results, including an explicit description of the most general non-empty intersection of two Schubert varieties in an arbitrary flag manifold, and a computation of the cohomology groups of any negative line bundle restricted to a Richardson variety in a cominuscule flag variety. We also give a type-uniform proof of the quantum-to-classical theorem, which asserts that the (3-point, genus 0) Gromov-Witten invariants of any cominuscule flag variety are classical triple-intersection numbers on an associated flag variety. Finally, we prove several new results about the geometry and combinatorics related to this theorem.

Abstract:We generalize several classical results about Schur functions to the family of cylindric Schur functions. First, we give a combinatorial proof of a Murnaghan--Nakayama formula for expanding cylindric Schur functions in the power-sum basis. We also explore some cases where this formula is cancellation-free. The second result is polynomiality of Kostka coefficients associated with stretched row-flagged skew Schur functions. This implies polynomiality of stretched cylindric Kostka coefficients. This generalizes a result by E. Rassart from 2004. Finally, we also show the saturation property for the row-flagged skew Kostka coefficients which also implies the saturation property for cylindric Schur functions.

In this paper, we classify compact, multiplicity free, twisted quasi-Hamiltonian manifolds for simply connected, compact Lie groups. Thereby, we recover old and find new examples of these structures.

Abstract:The $q$-Schur category is a $\mathbb{Z}[q,q^{-1}]$-linear monoidal category closely related to the $q$-Schur algebra. We explain how to construct it from coordinate algebras of quantum $GL_n$ for all $n \geq 0$. Then we use Donkin's work on Ringel duality for $q$-Schur algebras to make precise the relationship between the $q$-Schur category and an integral form for the $U_q\mathfrak{gl}_n$-web category of Cautis, Kamnitzer and Morrison. We construct explicit integral bases for morphism spaces in the latter category, and extend the Cautis-Kamnitzer-Morrison theorem to polynomial representations of quantum $GL_n$ at a root of unity over a field of any characteristic.
