Abstract:Let $\mathcal A$ be a free hyperplane arrangement. In 1989, Ziegler showed that the restriction $\mathcal A"$ of $\mathcal A$ to any hyperplane endowed with the natural multiplicity $\kappa$ is then a free multiarrangement. In 2024, the first two authors proved an analogue of Ziegler's theorem for the stronger notion of inductive freeness: if $\mathcal A$ is inductively free, then so is the free multiarrangement $(\mathcal A'',\kappa)$. In 2018, all reflection arrangements which admit inductively free Ziegler restrictions were classified by the first two authors. The aim of this paper is an extension of this classification to all restrictions of reflection arrangements utilizing the aforementioned fundamental result from the 2024 paper of the first two authors.

Abstract:Abstract Suppose that W is a finite, unitary, reflection group acting on the complex vector space V and X is a subspace of V . Define N to be the setwise stabilizer of X in W , Z to be the pointwise stabilizer, and C = N / Z . Then restriction defines a homomorphism from the algebra of W -invariant polynomial functions on V to the algebra of C -invariant functions on X . In this note we consider the special case when W is a Coxeter group, V is the complexified reflection representation of W , and X is in the lattice of the arrangement of W , and give a simple, combinatorial characterization of when the restriction mapping is surjective in terms of the exponents of W and C . As an application of our result, in the case when W is the Weyl group of a semisimple, complex Lie algebra, we complete a calculation begun by Richardson in 1987 and obtain a simple combinatorial characterization of regular decomposition classes whose closure is a normal variety.

Abstract:We give a combinatorial characterization of generic minimally rigid reflection frameworks. The main new idea is to study a pair of direction networks on the same graph such that one admits faithful realizations and the other has only collapsed realizations. In terms of infinitesimal rigidity, realizations of the former produce a framework and the latter certifies that this framework is infinitesimally rigid.

Noncrossing partitions under rotation and reflection

Abstract:We consider noncrossing partitions of [n] under the action of (i) the reflection group (of order 2), (ii) the rotation group (cyclic of order n) and (iii) the rotation/reflection group (dihedral of order 2n). First, we exhibit a bijection from rotation classes to bicolored plane trees on n edges, and consider its implications. Then we count noncrossing partitions of [n] invariant under reflection and show that, somewhat surprisingly, they are equinumerous with rotation classes invariant under reflection. The proof uses a pretty involution originating in work of Germain Kreweras. We conjecture that the "equinumerous" result also holds for arbitrary partitions of [n].

Constructions of Indecomposable Representations of Algebras Via Reflection Functors

Abstract:The main aim of this paper is to reform the Bernstein-Gelfand-Ponomarev theory in order to characterize representations of some (non-basic) artinian algebras. All non-isomorphic indecomposable projective and injective representations are constructed via Coxeter functors for a generalized path algebra of acyclic quiver and then for an artinian hereditary algebra of Gabriel-type with an admissible ideal. The methods given via natural quivers and reformed modulations are helpful for one to study some properties which are not Morita-invariant in representation theory.

Abstract:Ziegler showed that free arrangements have free restricted multiarrangements (multirestrictions). After Ziegler's work, several results concerning "reverse direction", namely characterizing freeness of an arrangement via that of multirestriction, have appeared. In this paper, we prove that the second Betti number of the arrangement plays a crucial role.

Abstract:A Coxeter group W is called reflection independent if its reflections are uniquely determined by W only, independently on the choice of the generating set. We give a new sufficient condition for the reflection independence, and examine this condition for Coxeter groups in certain classes, possibly of infinite ranks. We also determine the finite irreducible components of another Coxeter group, that is a subgroup of W generated by the reflections centralizing a given generator of W. Determining such a subgroup makes our criterion efficient.

Abstract:Suppose V is a finite dimensional, complex vector space, A is a finite set of codimension one subspaces of V, and G is a finite subgroup of the general linear group GL(V) that permutes the hyperplanes in A. In this paper we study invariants and semi-invariants in the graded QG-module H^*(M(A)), where M(A) denotes the complement in V of the hyperplanes in A and H^*( . ) denotes rational singular cohomology, in the case when A is a reflection arrangement and the pair (A,G) arises from a reflection coset. Our main result is the construction of an explicit, natural (from the point of view of Coxeter groups) basis of the space of invariants, H^*(M(A))^G. In addition to leading to a proof of the description of the space of invariants conjectured by Felder and Veselov for Coxeter groups that does not rely on computer calculations, this construction provides an extension of this description of the space of invariants to arbitrary finite, complex reflection groups. The main result also leads to simplifications of some cohomology computations of Lehrer, Callegaro-Marin, and Marin.

Abstract:We prove that the Hurwitz action on reflection factorizations of Coxeter elements is transitive up to certain natural constraints in the complex reflection groups G4 and G5. This affirms a more general conjecture by Lewis and Reiner in these specific cases. The proof uses induction on length of the factorization using the fact that the square of a reflection is also a reflection.

Abstract:Let $W$ be a group endowed with a finite set $S$ of generators. A representation $(V,\rho)$ of $W$ is called a reflection representation of $(W,S)$ if $\rho(s)$ is a (generalized) reflection on $V$ for each generator $s \in S$. In this paper, we prove that for any irreducible reflection representation $V$, all the exterior powers $\bigwedge ^d V$, $d = 0, 1, \dots, \dim V$, are irreducible $W$-modules, and they are non-isomorphic to each other. This extends a theorem of R. Steinberg which is stated for Euclidean reflection groups. Moreover, we prove that the exterior powers (except for the 0th and the highest power) of two non-isomorphic reflection representations always give non-isomorphic $W$-modules. This allows us to construct numerous pairwise non-isomorphic irreducible representations for such groups, especially for Coxeter groups.

Abstract:In this paper we establish affinizations and R-matrices in the language of pro-objects, and as an application, we construct reflection functors over the localizations of quiver Hecke algebras of arbitrary finite types. This reflection functor categorifies the braid group action on the half of a quantum group and the Saito reflection.

Abstract:We present a link between easy quantum groups, discrete groups and combinatorics. By this, we infer new connections between quantum isometry groups, reflection groups, varieties of groups and the combinatorics of partitions. More precisely, we consider easy quantum groups and find a relation to subgroups of the infinite free product $\mathbb Z_2^{*\infty}$ of $\mathbb Z_2=\mathbb Z/2\mathbb Z$. We obtain a link with reflection groups and thus with varieties of groups, which yields a statement on the complexity of the class of easy quantum groups on the one hand, and a "quantum invariant" for varieties of groups on the other hand. Moreover, we reveal a triangular relationship between easy quantum groups, categories of partitions and discrete groups (reflection groups). As a by-product, we obtain a large number of new quantum isometry groups.

Abstract:In this note, we give a new proof of a result of Matthew Dyer stating that in an arbitrary Coxeter group $W$, every pair $t,t'$ of distinct reflections lie in a unique maximal dihedral reflection subgroup of $W$. Our proof only relies on the combinatorics of words, in particular we do not use root systems at all. As an application, we deduce a new proof of a recent result of Delucchi-Paolini-Salvetti, stating that the poset $[1,c]_T$ of generalized noncrossing partitions in any Coxeter group of rank $3$ is a lattice. We achieve this by showing the more general statement that any interval of length $3$ in the absolute order on an arbitrary Coxeter group is a lattice. This implies that the interval group attached to any interval $[1,w]_T$ where $w$ is an element of an arbitrary Coxeter group with $\ell_T(w)=3$ is a quasi-Garside group.

Constructing reflection-symmetric flexible realisations of graphs

Abstract:We study reflection-symmetric realisations of symmetric graphs in the plane that allow a continuous symmetry and edge-length preserving deformation. To do so, we identify a necessary combinatorial condition on graphs with reflection-symmetric flexible realisations. This condition is based on a specific type of edge colouring, where edges are assigned one of three colours in a symmetric way. From some of these colourings we also construct concrete reflection-symmetric realisations with their corresponding symmetry preserving motion. We study also a specific class of reflection-symmetric realisations consisting of triangles and parallelograms.

Abstract:The extended Shi and Catalan arrangements are well investigated arrangements. In this paper, we prove that the cone of the extended Catalan arrangement of type A is always hereditarily free, while we determine the dimension in which the cone of the extended Shi arrangement of type A is hereditarily free. For this purpose, using digraphs, we define a class of arrangements which is closed under restriction, and which contains the extended Shi and Catalan arrangements. We also characterize the freeness for the cone of this arrangement by graphical conditions.

Abstract:After having established elementary results on the relationship between a finite complex (pseudo-)reflection group W < GL(V) and its reflection arrangement A, we prove that the action of W on A is canonically related with other natural representations of W, through a `periodic' family of representations of its braid group. We also prove that, when W is irreducible, then the squares of defining linear forms for A span the quadratic forms on V, which imply |A| >= n(n+1)/2 for n = dim V, and relate the W-equivariance of the corresponding map with the period of our family.
