Abstract:In this paper, we study stochastic comparisons of parallel systems having log-Lindley distributed components. These comparisons are carried out with respect to reversed hazard rate and likelihood ratio ordering.

Abstract:Recently, Chowdhury and Kundu [6] compared two parallel systems of heterogeneous independent log-Lindley distributed components using the concept of vector majorization and related orders. Under the same set-up, this paper derives some results related to usual stochastic ordering between two parallel systems when each component receives a random shock.

Abstract:This paper carries out stochastic comparisons of series and parallel systems with independent and heterogeneous components in the sense of the hazard rate order, the reversed hazard rate order, and the likelihood ratio order. The main results extend and strengthen the corresponding ones by Misra and Misra [18] and by Ding, Zhang, and Zhao [8]. Meanwhile, the results on the hazard rate order of parallel systems and the reversed hazard order of series systems serve as nice supplements to Theorem 16.B.1 of Boland and Proschan [4] and Theorem 3.2 of Nanda and Shaked [20], respectively.

Abstract:The exponentiated Weibull (EW) distribution is the first generalization of the two-parameter Weibull distribution to accommodate nonmonotone hazard rates, including the bathtub shaped hazard rate. In this paper, we discuss stochastic comparisons of parallel systems with exponentiated Weibull components in terms of the usual stochastic order, dispersive order and the likelihood ratio order. Abstract:For components having dependent and possibly non-identically distributed lifetimes, we study the stochastic comparison between lifetimes of a used coherent system and a similar new system consisting of used components. Sufficient conditions for the usual stochastic order, the hazard rate order and the reversed hazard rate order under the situation when component lifetimes have general distribution are provided. As for proportional hazards component lifetimes, sufficient and necessary conditions guaranteeing several stochastic orders are derived, including the usual stochastic order, the hazard rate order, the reversed hazard rate order, the likelihood ratio order and the relative ageing orderings. Several numerical examples are provided for illustrations.

Abstract:To measure the magnitude among random variables, we can apply a partial order connection defined on a distribution class, which contains the symmetry. In this paper, based on majorization order and symmetry or asymmetry functions, we carry out stochastic comparisons of lifetimes of two series (parallel) systems with dependent or independent heterogeneous Marshall–Olkin Topp Leone G (MOTL-G) components under random shocks. Further, the effect of heterogeneity of the shape parameters of MOTL-G components and surviving probabilities from random shocks on the reliability of series and parallel systems in the sense of the usual stochastic and hazard rate orderings is investigated. First, we establish the usual stochastic and hazard rate orderings for the lifetimes of series and parallel systems when components are statistically dependent. Second, we also adopt the usual stochastic ordering to compare the lifetimes of the parallel systems under the assumption that components are statistically independent. The theoretical findings show that the weaker heterogeneity of shape parameters in terms of the weak majorization order results in the larger reliability of series and parallel systems and indicate that the more heterogeneity among the transformations of surviving probabilities from random shocks according to the weak majorization order leads to larger lifetimes of the parallel system. Finally, several numerical examples are provided to illustrate the main results, and the reliability of series system is analyzed by the real-data and proposed methods.

Abstract:We propose some new results on the comparison of the minimum or maximum order statistic from a random number of non-identical random variables. Under the non-identical set-up, with certain conditions, we prove that random minimum (maximum) of one system dominates the other in hazard rate (reversed hazard rate) order. Further, we prove variation diminishing property (Karlin [8]) for all possible restrictions to derive the new results.

Abstract:Here, we discuss the stochastic comparison of residual lifetimes of parallel systems and inactivity times of series systems by means of the reversed hazard rate order when the components of the systems are independent but not necessarily identically distributed. We also establish some monotonicity properties of such residual lifetimes of parallel systems and inactivity times of series systems. These results extend some of the recent results in this direction due to Zhao, Li, and Balakrishnan [21], Kochar and Xu [12], and Saledi and Asadi [16].

Abstract:Sequential order statistics (SOS) are useful tools for modeling the lifetimes of systems wherein the failure of a component has a significant impact on the lifetimes of the remaining surviving components. The SOS model is a general model that contains most of the existing models for ordered random variables. In this paper, we consider the SOS model with non-identical components and then discuss various univariate and multivariate stochastic comparison results in both one-and two-sample scenarios.

Abstract:In this manuscript, we studied the stochastic ordering behavior of series as well as parallel systems lifetimes comprising dependent and heterogeneous components, experiencing random shocks, and exhibiting distinct dependency structures. We establish certain conditions for the lifetime of individual components, the dependency among components defined by Archimedean copulas, and the impact of random shocks on the overall system lifetime to reach the conclusion. We consider components whose survival functions are either increasing log-concave or decreasing log-convex functions of the parameters involved and systems exhibit different dependency structures. These conditions make it possible to compare the lifetimes of two systems using the usual stochastic order framework. Additionally, we provide examples and graphical representations to elucidate our theoretical findings.

Abstract:In this article, we study a load-sharing redundancy system in the presence of statistical dependence between base and redundancy component lifetimes when they are under partial workload. We derive the system reliability function in terms of reliability functions and the copula function of the base and redundancy component lifetimes. Further, in the setting of some aging properties, the base component and absolute continuous copula, we develop the hazard rate order, the reversed hazard rate order, and the likelihood ratio order between the system lifetime and the base component lifetimes. Two typical scenarios with independence between the base and redundancy component lifetimes are discussed in particular. Several numerical examples are presented to illustrate the theoretical findings as well.

Abstract:In this study, we consider two finite mixture models (FMMs) with location-scale family distributed components, in which ordering results are established in various stochastic senses. For heterogeneity in one parameter, the comparisons are obtained with respect to usual stochastic order, hazard rate order, reversed hazard rate order and likelihood ratio order. Further, for heterogeneity in two parameters, we derive sufficient conditions for the stochastic comparison of FMMs with respect to usual stochastic order and hazard rate order. Various examples and counterexamples are presented to illustrate the proposed results.

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate the problem of stochastically comparing the second-order statistics from dependent and heterogeneous samples following modified proportional hazard rates scale (MPHRS) and modified proportional reversed hazard rates scale (MPRHRS) models under Archimedean copula. We built some sufficient conditions for the usual stochastic order whenever the samples have different parameter vectors. Finally, some numerical examples were provided to illustrate the theoretical results.

Abstract:In this paper, we establish sufficient conditions for stochastic comparisons of two finite mixture models (FMMs) with respect to the usual stochastic order, hazard rate order, and likelihood ratio order when the mixing components have generalized Weibull family of distributions. The established (sufficient) conditions are mainly based on the majorization order, weak supermajorization order, and weak submajorization order. The stochastic comparisons are studied when there is heterogeneity in one (model) parameter, and then in two parameters (model parameter and mixing proportion). Further, the concept of unordered majorization order is employed to establish the usual stochastic order between two FMMs. To illustrate the theoretical results established here, several numerical examples and counterexamples are presented. Finally, we have generalized some of the results to the case of τ -mixture models.

Abstract:This paper considers parallel and series systems with heterogeneous components having dependent exponential lifetimes. The underlying dependence is assumed to be Archimedean and the component lifetimes are supposed to be connected according to an Archimedean copula. Sufficient conditions are found to dominate a parallel system with heterogenous exponential components, with respect to the dispersive order, by another parallel system with homogenous exponential components where the dependence structure between lifetimes of components is the same. We also compare two series systems (and two parallel systems) with general one-parameter dependent components and with respect to the usual stochastic ordering. Examples are given to illustrate the theoretical findings.
