In this paper, for an odd prime p, a class of three-weight linear codes over Fp are constructed. The weight distributions of the linear codes are settled. Abstract:Recently, linear codes with few weights have been constructed through defining sets. Results show that some optimal codes can be obtained if the defining sets were well chosen. In this paper, we investigate the linear codes constructed from the absolute trace function. It is shown that the constructed codes are binary linear codes with three weights. The dual codes of the proposed linear codes are also studied and proved to be optimal or almost optimal.

Abstract:Recently, linear codes with few weights have been widely studied, since they have applications in data storage systems, communication systems and consumer electronics. In this paper, we present a class of three-weight and five-weight linear codes over Fp, where p is an odd prime and Fp denotes a finite field with p elements. The weight distributions of the linear codes constructed in this paper are also settled. Moreover, the linear codes illustrated in the paper may have applications in secret sharing schemes.

In this paper, a class of binary linear codes is constructed and their weight distribution is determined. Results show that they are at most 4-weight linear codes. Abstract:The linear codes with a few weights have been applied widely in combinatorial designs, secret sharing, association schemes, authentication codes and strongly regular graphs. In this paper, we first correct an erroneous result about the exponential sum $\sum_{x\in \mathbb{F}_{2^{e}}}\chi_1\left(ax^{2^{\alpha}+1}+bx\right).$ Then, using the above exponential sum, we construct several families of binary linear codes of $3$-weight and determine their weight distributions. Moreover, Most of them can be used in secret sharing schemes.

Abstract:Linear codes constructed from defining sets have been extensively studied and may have a few nonzero weights if the defining sets are well chosen. Let 𝔽_q be a finite field with q=p^m elements, where p is a prime and m is a positive integer. Motivated by Ding and Ding’s recent work (IEEE Trans Inf Theory 61(11):5835–5842, 2015 ), we construct p -ary linear codes 𝒞_D by 𝒞_D={𝐜(a,b)= (Tr_m(ax+by) )_(x,y)∈ D: a, b ∈𝔽_q}, where D ⊂𝔽_q^2 and Tr_m is the trace function from 𝔽_q onto 𝔽_p . In this paper, we will employ exponential sums to investigate the weight enumerators of the linear codes 𝒞_D , where D={(x, y) ∈𝔽_q^2 ∖{(0,0)}: Tr_m(x^N_1+y^N_2)=0} for two positive integers N_1 and N_2 . Several classes of two-weight and three-weight linear codes and their explicit weight enumerators are presented if N_1, N_2 ∈{1, 2, p^m/2+1} . By deleting some coordinates, more punctured two-weight and three-weight linear codes 𝒞_D which include some optimal codes are derived from 𝒞_D .

Abstract:In this paper, we construct an infinite family of three-weight binary codes from linear codes over the ring R = F-2 + vF(2) + v(2)F(2)where v(3) = 1. These codes are defined as trace codes. They have the algebraic structure of abelian codes. Their Lee weight distributions are computed by employing character sums. The three-weight binary linear codes which we construct are shown to be optimal when m is odd and m > 1. They are cubic, that is to say quasi-cyclic of co-index three. An application to secret sharing schemes is given.

Abstract:Linear codes with a few weights can be applied to secrete sharing, authentication codes, association schemes and strongly regular graphs. For an odd prime power $q$, we construct a class of three-weight $\F_q$-linear codes from quadratic functions via a bivariate construction and then determine the complete weight enumerators and weight hierarchies of these linear codes completely. This paper generalizes some results in Li et al. (2022) and Hu et al. (2024).

Abstract:Recently, there has been intensive research on the weight distributions of cyclic codes. In this paper, we compute the weight distributions of three classes of cyclic codes with Niho exponents. More specifically, we obtain two classes of binary three-weight and four-weight cyclic codes and a class of nonbinary four-weight cyclic codes. The weight distributions follow from the determination of value distributions of certain exponential sums. Several examples are presented to show that some of our codes are optimal and some have the best known parameters.

Abstract:In this paper, based on the theory of defining sets, two classes of five-weight or six-weight linear codes over Fp are constructed. The weight distributions of the linear codes are determined by means of Weil sums and a new type of exponential sums. In some case, there is an almost optimal code with respect to Griesmer bound, which is also an optimal one according to the online code table.

Abstract:Linear codes with few weights are an important class of codes in coding theory and have attracted a lot of attention. In this paper, we present several constructions of q-ary linear codes with two or three weights from vectorial dual-bent functions, where q is a power of an odd prime p. The weight distributions of the constructed q-ary linear codes are completely determined. We illustrate that some known constructions in the literature can be obtained by our constructions. In some special cases, our constructed linear codes can meet the Griesmer bound. Furthermore, based on the constructed q-ary linear codes, we obtain secret sharing schemes with interesting access structures.

In addition, the weight hierarchy of linear codes has many applications such as on the type II wire-tap channel, dealing with $t$-resilient functions and trellis or branch complexity of linear codes and so on. Abstract:Linear codes with few weights have significant applications in secret sharing schemes, authentication codes, association schemes, and strongly regular graphs. There are a number of methods to construct linear codes, one of which is based on functions. Furthermore, two generic constructions of linear codes from functions called the first and the second generic constructions, have aroused the research interest of scholars. Recently, in \cite{Nian}, Li and Mesnager proposed two open problems: Based on the first and the second generic constructions, respectively, construct linear codes from non-weakly regular plateaued functions and determine their weight distributions. Motivated by these two open problems, in this paper, firstly, based on the first generic construction, we construct some three-weight and at most five-weight linear codes from non-weakly regular plateaued functions and determine the weight distributions of the constructed codes. Next, based on the second generic construction, we construct some three-weight and at most five-weight linear codes from non-weakly regular plateaued functions belonging to $\mathcal{NWRF}$ (defined in this paper) and determine the weight distributions of the constructed codes. We also give the punctured codes of these codes obtained based on the second generic construction and determine their weight distributions. Meanwhile, we obtain some optimal and almost optimal linear codes. Besides, by the Ashikhmin-Barg condition, we have that the constructed codes are minimal for almost all cases and obtain some secret sharing schemes with nice access structures based on their dual codes.

Abstract:Studying the generalized Hamming weights of linear codes is a significant research area within coding theory, as it provides valuable structural information about the codes and plays a crucial role in determining their performance in various applications. However, determining the generalized Hamming weights of linear codes, particularly their weight hierarchy, is generally a challenging task. In this paper, we focus on investigating the generalized Hamming weights of three classes of linear codes over finite fields. These codes are constructed by different defining sets. By analysing the intersections between the definition sets and the duals of all $r$-dimensional subspaces, we get the inequalities on the sizes of these intersections. Then constructing subspaces that reach the upper bounds of these inequalities, we successfully determine the complete weight hierarchies of these codes.
