Abstract:In this article we provide an identification between the wavelet decompositions of certain fractal representations of $C^*-$algebras of directed graphs of M. Marcolli and A. Paolucci, and the eigenspaces of Laplacians associated to spectral triples constructed from Cantor fractal sets that are the infinite path spaces of Bratteli diagrams associated to the representations, with a particular emphasis on wavelets for representations of $\mathcal{O}_D$. In particular, in this setting we use results of J. Pearson and J. Bellissard, and A. Julien and J. Savinien, to construct first the spectral triple and then the Laplace Beltrami operator on the associated Cantor set. We then prove that in certain cases, the orthogonal wavelet decomposition and the decomposition via orthogonal eigenspaces match up precisely. We give several explicit examples, including an example related to a Sierpinski fractal, and compute in detail all the eigenvalues and corresponding eigenspaces of the Laplace Beltrami operators for the equal weight case for representations of Cuntz algebras, and in the uneven weight case for certain representations of $\mathcal{O}_2$, and show how the eigenspaces and wavelet subspaces at different levels are related.
What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The problem that this paper attempts to solve is to establish the connection between the wavelets decomposition and the construction of spectral triples of Cuntz algebras under specific fractal representations. Specifically, the authors focus on further exploring the relationship between wavelets decomposition and the eigenspaces of the Laplace - Beltrami operator constructed through the Cantor set, based on the work of Marcolli and Paolucci. The main contribution of the paper is to prove that under certain conditions, these two decomposition methods (i.e., wavelets decomposition and orthogonal decomposition based on eigenspaces) match exactly. In addition, the paper also provides specific examples, including instances related to the Sierpinski fractal, and calculates in detail all the eigenvalues and the corresponding eigenspaces of the Laplace - Beltrami operator represented by the Cuntz algebra \(O_D\) in specific weight cases.
### Main Research Contents
1. **Matching of Wavelets and Eigenspaces**:
- The paper first reviews the construction methods of Marcolli and Paolucci regarding the representation of Cuntz - Krieger \(C^*\)-algebras on certain fractals and their "wavelets".
- Then, the authors use the work of Pearson and Bellissard as well as Julien and Savinien to construct spectral triples and Laplace - Beltrami operators on the Cantor sets related to these fractals.
- Finally, the authors prove that under certain conditions, the wavelets decomposition is completely consistent with the eigenspace decomposition of the Laplace - Beltrami operator.
2. **Specific Calculations and Examples**:
- The paper calculates in detail all the eigenvalues and eigenspaces of the Laplace - Beltrami operator related to the representation of the Cuntz algebra \(O_D\), especially the representation on the Sierpinski fractal.
- It also discusses the eigenvalues and eigenspaces in different weight cases and compares the results with the wavelets analyzed by Marcolli and Paolucci in their previous work.
3. **Theoretical Extension**:
- The paper also plans to generalize these constructions to more general directed graphs and higher - order graphs in future work and explain how to generalize other spectral triples related to directed graphs to higher - order graphs.
### Mathematical Formulas
- **Cuntz Relations**:
\[
T_j^* T_i=\delta_{ij}I, \quad \sum_{i = 0}^{D - 1}T_iT_i^*=I
\]
- **Radon - Nikodym Derivative**:
\[
\frac{d(\mu\circ\sigma_i)}{d\mu}>0, \quad \text{almost everywhere}
\]
- **Eigenvalues of the Laplace - Beltrami Operator**:
\[
\lambda_n=\frac{1}{D^n}, \quad n\in\mathbb{N}
\]
### Conclusion
By establishing the connection between wavelets decomposition and the eigenspace decomposition of the Laplace - Beltrami operator, this paper provides a new perspective for understanding the representation of Cuntz algebras on fractals. These results not only deepen the understanding of wavelets and spectral geometry but also provide a theoretical basis for further research.
