Abstract:In this work, we deal with Delone sets and their rectifiability under different classes of regularity. By pursuing techniques developed by Rivière and Ye, and Aliste-Prieto, Coronel and Gambaudo, we give sufficient conditions for a Delone set to be equivalent to the standard lattice by bijections having regularity in between bi-Lipschitz and bi-Hölder-homogeneous. From this criterion, we improve a result of McMullen by showing that, for any dimension $d\geq 1$, there exists a threshold of moduli of continuity $\mathcal{M}_d$, including the class of the Hölder ones, such that for every $\omega\in\mathcal{M}_d$, any two Delone sets in $\mathbb{R}^d$ cannot be distinguished under bi-$\omega$-equivalence. Also, we extend a result due to Aliste, Coronel, and Gambaudo, which establishes that every linearly repetitive Delone set in $\mathbb{R}^d$ is rectifiable by extending it to a broader class of repetitive behaviors. Moreover, we show that for the modulus of continuity $\omega(t)=t(\log(1/t))^{1/d}$, every $\omega$-repetitive Delone set in $\mathbb{R}^d$ is equivalent to the standard lattice by a bi-$\omega$-homogeneous map. Finally, we address a problem of continuous nature related to the previous ones about finding solutions to the prescribed volume form equation in intermediate regularity, thereby extending the results of Rivière and Ye.

Abstract:In the paper, we provide an effective criterion for the Lipschitz equivalence of two-branch Cantor sets and three-branch Cantor sets by studying the irreducibility of polynomials. We also find that any two Cantor sets are Lipschitz equivalent if and only if their contraction vectors are equivalent provided one of the contraction vectors is homogeneous.

Abstract:Let $A$ be an expanding $d\times d$ matrix with integer entries and ${\mathcal D}\subset {\mathbb Z}^d$ be a finite digit set. Then the pair $(A, {\mathcal D})$ defines a unique integral self-affine set $K=A^{-1}(K+{\mathcal D})$. In this paper, by replacing the Euclidean norm with a pseudo-norm $w$ in terms of $A$, we construct a hyperbolic graph on $(A, {\mathcal D})$ and show that $K$ can be identified with the hyperbolic boundary. Moreover, if $(A, {\mathcal D})$ safisfies the open set condition, we also prove that two totally disconnected integral self-affine sets are Lipschitz equivalent if an only if they have the same $w$-Hausdorff dimension, that is, their digit sets have equal cardinality. We extends some well-known results in the self-similar sets to the self-affine sets.

Abstract:We study the property of uniform discreteness within discrete orbits of non-uniform lattices in $SL_2(\mathbb{R})$, acting on $\mathbb{R}^2$ by linear transformations. We provide quantitative consequences of previous results by using Diophantine properties. We give a partial result toward a conjecture of Lelièvre regarding the set of long cylinder holonomy vectors of the "golden L" translation surface: for any $\epsilon>0$, three points of this set can be found on a horizontal line within a distance of $\epsilon$ of each other.

Abstract:The Delaunay triangulation of a set of points P on a hyperbolic surface is the projection of the Delaunay triangulation of the set of lifted points in the hyperbolic plane. Since is infinite, the algorithms to compute Delaunay triangulations in the plane do not generalize naturally. Using a Dirichlet domain, we exhibit a finite set of points that captures the full triangulation. We prove that an edge of a Delaunay triangulation has a combinatorial length (a notion we define in the paper) smaller than with respect to a Dirichlet domain. To achieve this, we introduce new tools, of intrinsic interest, that capture the properties of length-minimizing curves in the context of closed curves. We then use these to derive structural results on Delaunay triangulations and exhibit certain distance minimizing properties of both the edges of a Delaunay triangulation and of a Dirichlet domain. The bounds produced in this paper depend only on the topology of the surface. They provide mathematical foundations for hyperbolic analogs of the algorithms to compute periodic Delaunay triangulations in Euclidean space.

Abstract:We formulate and prove a non-abelian analog of Deligne's Fixed Part theorem on Hodge classes, revisiting previous work of Jost--Zuo, Katzarkov--Pantev and Landesman--Litt. To this aim we study algebraically isomonodromic extensions of local systems and we relate them to variations of Hodge structures, for example we show that the Mumford-Tate group at a generic point stays constant in an algebraically isomonodromic extension of a variation of Hodge structure. v2: a few typos ironed and Thm 1.1 5) completed. v3: there was a Schlamassel leading to a mix-up of files. Among other new results, we show here that the convexity assumption on the domain made previously in the literature on the location of the coincidence set can be avoided under suitable alternative conditions on the data.

Abstract:Abstract We introduce a hierarchy of equivalence relations on the set of separated nets of a given Euclidean space, indexed by concave increasing functions $$\phi :(0,\infty )\rightarrow (0,\infty )$$ φ : ( 0 , ∞ ) → ( 0 , ∞ ) . Two separated nets are called $$\phi $$ φ - displacement equivalent if, roughly speaking, there is a bijection between them which, for large radii R , displaces points of norm at most R by something of order at most $$\phi (R)$$ φ ( R ) . We show that the spectrum of $$\phi $$ φ -displacement equivalence spans from the established notion of bounded displacement equivalence , which corresponds to bounded $$\phi $$ φ , to the indiscrete equivalence relation, corresponding to $$\phi (R)\in \varOmega (R)$$ φ ( R ) ∈ Ω ( R ) , in which all separated nets are equivalent. In between the two ends of this spectrum, the notions of $$\phi $$ φ -displacement equivalence are shown to be pairwise distinct with respect to the asymptotic classes of $$\phi (R)$$ φ ( R ) for $$R\rightarrow \infty $$ R → ∞ . We further undertake a comparison of our notion of $$\phi $$ φ -displacement equivalence with previously studied relations on separated nets. Particular attention is given to the interaction of the notions of $$\phi $$ φ -displacement equivalence with that of bilipschitz equivalence .

Abstract:Delone sets are discrete point sets X in characterized by parameters ( r , R ), where (usually) 2 r is the smallest inter-point distance of X , and R is the radius of a largest "empty ball" that can be inserted into the interstices of X . The regularity radius is defined as the smallest positive number such that each Delone set with congruent clusters of radius is a regular system, that is, a point orbit under a crystallographic group. We discuss two conjectures on the growth behavior of the regularity radius. Our "Weak Conjecture" states that as , independent of r . This is verified in the paper for two important subfamilies of Delone sets: those with full-dimensional clusters of radius 2 r and those with full-dimensional sets of d -reachable points. We also offer support for the plausibility of a "Strong Conjecture", stating that as , independent of r .

Abstract:We generalize a classical theorem of Besicovitch, showing that, for any positive integers $k<n$, if $E\subset \mathbb R^n$ is a Souslin set which is not $\mathcal{H}^k$-$\sigma$-finite, then $E$ contains a purely unrectifiable closed set $F$ with $0< \mathcal{H}^k (F) < \infty$. Therefore, if $E\subset \mathbb R^n$ is a Souslin set with the property that every closed subset with finite $\mathcal{H}^k$ measure is $k$-rectifiable, then $E$ is $k$-rectifiable. We also point out that this theorem holds in a suitable class of metric spaces. Our interest is motivated by recent studies of the structure of the singular sets of several objects in geometric analysis and we explain the usefulness of our lemma with some examples.

Abstract:Let $v$ be an odd real polynomial (i.e. a polynomial of the form $\sum_{j=1}^\ell a_jx^{2j-1}$). We utilize sets of iterated differences to establish new results about sets of the form $\mathcal R(v,\epsilon)=\{n\in\mathbb{N}\,|\,\|v(n)\|{<\epsilon\}}$ where $\|\cdot\|$ denotes the distance to the closest integer. We then apply the new diophantine results to obtain applications to ergodic theory and combinatorics. In particular, we obtain a new characterization of weakly mixing systems as well as a new variant of Furstenberg-Sárközy theorem.

Abstract:The Borsuk conjecture and the Vázsonyi problem are two attractive and famous questions in discrete and combinatorial geometry, both based on the notion of diameter of a bounded sets. In this paper, we present an equivalence between the critical sets with Borsuk number 4 in $\mathbb{R}^3$ and the minimal structures for the Vázsonyi problem by using the well-known Reuleaux polyhedra. The latter lead to a full characterization of all finite sets in $\mathbb{R}^3$ with Borsuk number 4. The proof of such equivalence needs various ingredients, in particular, we proved a conjecture dealing with strongly critical configuration for the Vázsonyi problem and showed that the diameter graph arising from involutive polyhedra is vertex (and edge) 4-critical.

Abstract:Too little mathematics has been written in prose. Thus we prove here, via a fantasy novellette, that a locally L-bilipschitz mapping $f \colon X \to Y$ between uniformly Ahlfors $q$-regular, complete and locally compact path-metric spaces $X$ and $Y$ is an $L$-bilipschitz map when $Y$ is simply connected. The motivation for such a result arises from studying the asymptotic values of BLD-mappings with an empty branch set; see e.g. [L17]. As far as the author is aware, the result is new, even though it would not be hard for specialists in the field to prove. The proof is essentially a modest extension of the ideas in [L17] in a more general setting when the branch set is empty.

Abstract:Generalizing a recent result on lineability of sets of non-injective linear operators, we prove, for quite general linear spaces $A$ of maps from an arbitraty set to a sequence space, that, for every $0 \neq f \in A$, the subset of $A$ of non-injective maps contains an infinite dimensional subspace of $A$ containing $f$. We provide aplications of the main result to spaces of linear operators between quasi-Banach spaces, to spaces of linear operators belonging to an operator ideal, and, in the nonlinear setting, to linear spaces of homogeneous polynomials and to linear spaces of vector-valued Lispshitz functions on metric spaces.
