Abstract:It is known that every binary elementary lift of a binary matroid is a matroid obtained by applying the splitting operation on that matroid. An elementary lift of a binary gammoid need not be a binary gammoid. This paper finds forbidden minors for the class of binary gammoids whose all elementary lifts are binary gammoids by using the splitting operation. We also find forbidden minors for the class of binary gammoids whose every single element coextension is a binary gammoid.

Abstract:The classes of bicircular matroids and lattice path matroids are closed under minors. The complete list of excluded minors for the class of lattice path matroids is known, and it has been recently shown that the analogous list for the class of bicircular matroids is finite. In this paper, we establish the complete list of excluded minors for the class of matroids that is the intersection of these two classes. This resolves a recently posed open problem.

Abstract:Splitting operation in Matroid Theory does not preserve graphicness, connectedness, cographicness, etc. Also, the splitting of binary gammoid does not necessarily be binary gammoid after splitting. We have characterized a class of graphic matroids that gives binary gammoids after splitting. We have obtained prohibited minors for graphic and cographic matroid which gives binary gammoid after splitting using two and three elements.

Abstract:Mayhew and Royle (2008) showed that there are 564 excluded minors for the class of GF(5)-representable matroids having at most 9 elements. We enumerate the excluded minors for GF(5)-representable matroids having 10 elements: there are precisely 2128 such excluded minors. In the process we find, for each $i \in \{2,3,4\}$, the excluded minors for the class of $\mathbb{H}_i$-representable matroids having at most 10 elements, and the excluded minors for the class of $\mathbb{H}_5$-representable matroids having at most 13 elements.

Abstract:We find the excluded minors for the minor-closed class of lattice path polymatroids as a subclass of the minor-closed class of Boolean polymatroids. Like lattice path matroids and Boolean polymatroids, there are infinitely many excluded minors, but they fall into a small number of easily-described types.

Abstract:We show that the class of bicircular matroids has only a finite number of excluded minors. Key tools used in our proof include representations of matroids by biased graphs and the recently introduced class of quasi-graphic matroids. We show that if $N$ is an excluded minor of rank at least ten, then $N$ is quasi-graphic. Several small excluded minors are quasi-graphic. Using biased-graphic representations, we find that $N$ already contains one of these. We also provide an upper bound, in terms of rank, on the number of elements in an excluded minor, so the result follows.

Abstract:We describe an implementation of a computer search for the "small" excluded minors for a class of matroids representable over a partial field. Using these techniques, we enumerate the excluded minors on at most 15 elements for both the class of dyadic matroids, and the class of 2-regular matroids. We conjecture that there are no other excluded minors for the class of 2-regular matroids; whereas, on the other hand, we show that there is a 16-element excluded minor for the class of dyadic matroids.

Abstract:If $\mathcal{C}$ is a minor-closed class of matroids, then the class $\widetilde{\mathcal{C}}'_k$ of $k$-polymatroids whose $k$-natural matroids are in $\mathcal{C}$ is also minor-closed. We investigate the following question: When $\mathcal{C}$ is the class of binary matroids, what are the excluded minors for $\widetilde{\mathcal{C}}'_k$? When $k = 1$, $\widetilde{\mathcal{C}}'_1$ is simply the class of binary matroids, which has $U_{2,4}$ as its only excluded minor. Joseph E. Bonin and Kevin Long answered the question for $k = 2$ and found that the set of excluded minors for $\widetilde{\mathcal{C}}'_2$ is infinite. We determine the sets of excluded minors for $\widetilde{\mathcal{C}}'_k$ when $k \geq 3$ and find that they are finite. There are $12$ excluded minors for $\widetilde{\mathcal{C}}'_3$ and when $k > 3$, there are $k+7$ excluded minors for $\widetilde{\mathcal{C}}'_k$.

Abstract:The class of quasi-graphic matroids, recently introduced by Geelen, Gerards, and Whittle, is minor closed and contains both the class of lifted-graphic matroids and the class of frame matroids, each of which generalises the class of graphic matroids. In this paper, we prove that the matroids $U_{3,7}$ and $U_{4,7}$ are the only $9$-connected excluded minors for the class of quasi-graphic matroids.

Abstract:A matroid of rank $r$ on $n$ elements is a positroid if it has a representation by an $r$ by $n$ matrix over $\mathbb{R}$, each $r$ by $r$ submatrix of which has nonnegative determinant. Earlier characterizations of connected positroids and results about direct sums of positroids involve connected flats and non-crossing partitions. We prove another characterization of positroids of a similar flavor and give some applications of the characterization. We show that if $M$ and $N$ are positroids and $E(M)\cap E(N)$ is an independent set and a set of clones in both $M$ and $N$, then the free amalgam of $M$ and $N$ is a positroid, and we prove a second result of that type. Also, we identify several multi-parameter infinite families of excluded minors for the class of positroids.

Abstract:We study clones modulo minor homomorphisms, which are mappings from one clone to another preserving arities of operations and respecting permutation and identification of variables. Minor-equivalent clones satisfy the same sets of identities of the form , also known as minor identities, and therefore share many algebraic properties. Moreover, it was proved that the complexity of the of a finite structure only depends on the set of minor identities satisfied by the polymorphism clone of . In this article we consider the poset that arises by considering all clones over a three-element set with the following order: we write if there exists a minor homomorphism from to . We show that the aforementioned poset has only three submaximal elements.

Abstract:In this paper we consider minors of ribbon graphs (or, equivalently, cellularly embedded graphs). The theory of minors of ribbon graphs differs from that of graphs in that contracting loops is necessary and doing this can create additional vertices and components. Thus the ribbon graph minor relation is incompatible with the graph minor relation. We discuss excluded minor characterisations of minor closed families of ribbon graphs. Our main result is an excluded minor characterisation of the family of ribbon graphs that represent knot and link diagrams.

Abstract:Deletion and contraction operations on lattices enriched with a generating set were introduced by the author in [<a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="2112.04600" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2112.04600">arXiv:2112.04600</a>]; and from these a notion of minors. When applied to the lattice of flats of a graph, these correspond to the same operations applied to the graph when the vertices are labeled and the edges unlabeled, followed by simplifying the resultant graph. We introduce a partial ordering of the minors of a given generator enriched lattice which we call the minor poset. We show that the minor poset of any generator enriched lattice is isomorphic to the face poset of a regular CW sphere, and in particular, is Eulerian. Furthermore, inequalities for the coefficients of cd-indices of minor posets are established. We also give a forbidden minor characterization of the generator enriched lattices whose minor poset is itself a lattice. Minor posets admit a decomposition into a disjoint union of Boolean algebras. We use this decomposition to derive formulas for the rank generating function of minor posets associated to geometric lattices with generating set consisting of the join irreducibles, and for minor posets associated to a class generalizing distributive lattices.

Abstract:In earlier work, we characterized the class of matroids with no $M(C_4)$ as an induced minor and the class of matroids with no member of $\{M(C_4),M(K_4)\}$ as an induced minor. In this paper, for every two matroids in $\{M(C_4),M(K_4\backslash e),M(K_4),F_7\}$, we determine the class of matroids that have neither of the chosen pair as an induced minor. Additionally, we prove structural lemmas toward characterizing the class of matroids that do not contain $M(K_4)$ as an induced minor.

Abstract:We introduce the class of dominant Auslander-Gorenstein algebras as a generalisation of higher Auslander algebras and minimal Auslander-Gorenstein algebras, and give their basic properties. We also introduce mixed (pre)cluster tilting modules as a generalisation of (pre)cluster tilting modules, and establish an Auslander type correspondence by showing that dominant Auslander-Gorenstein (respectively, Auslander-regular) algebras correspond bijectively with mixed precluster (respectively, cluster) tilting modules. We show that every trivial extension algebra $T(A)$ of a $d$-representation-finite algebra A admits a mixed cluster tilting module and show that this can be seen as a generalisation of the well known result that $d$-representation-finite algebras are fractionally Calabi-Yau. We show that iterated SGC-extensions of a gendo-symmetric dominant Auslander-Gorenstein algebra admit mixed precluster tilting modules.

Abstract:We show that each real-representable matroid is a minor of a complex-representable excluded minor for real-representability. More generally, for an infinite field $\mathbb{F}_1$ and a field extension $\mathbb{F}_2$, if $\mathbb{F}_1$-representability is not equivalent to $\mathbb{F}_2$-representability, then each $\mathbb{F}_1$-representable matroid is a minor of a $\mathbb{F}_2$-representable excluded minor for $\mathbb{F}_1$-representability.
