Abstract:In this work, we determine the maximum general Randić index (a general symmetric function of vertex degrees) for η0≤η<0 among all n-vertex unicyclic graphs with a fixed maximum degree Δ and the maximum and the second maximum general Randić index for η0≤η<0 among all n-vertex unicyclic graphs, where η0≈−0.21. We establish sharp inequalities and identify the graphs attaining the inequalities. Thereby, extremal graphs are obtained for the general Randić index, and certain open gaps in the theory of extremal unicyclic graphs are filled (some open problems are provided). We use computational software to calculate the Randić index for the chemical trees up to order 7 and use the statistical (linear regression) analysis to discuss the various applications of the Randić index with the physical properties of drugs on the said chemical trees. We show that the Randić index is better correlated with the heat of vaporization for these alkanes.

Abstract:We investigate how small the Randić index of a graph can be in terms of its matching number, and prove several results. We give best-possible linear bounds for graphs of small excess and for subcubic graphs; in the former case the size of excess we permit is qualitatively the best possible. We show that a linear bound holds for any sparse hereditary graph class (such as planar graphs). In general, however, we show that it can be much smaller than linear. We determine the asymptotic growth rate of the minimum Randić index for graphs with a near perfect matching, and conjecture that the same bounds hold for all graphs.

Abstract:The Randić-type graph invariants are extensively investigated vertex-degree-based topological indices and have gained much prominence in recent years. The general Randić and zeroth-order general Randić indices are Randić-type graph invariants and are defined for a graph G with vertex set V as RαG=∑υi∼υjdidjα and QαG=∑vi∈Vdiα , respectively, where α is an arbitrary real number, di denotes the degree of a vertex υi , and υi∼υj represents the adjacency of vertices υi and υj in G . Establishing relationships between two topological indices holds significant importance for researchers. Some implicit inequality relationships between Rα and Qα have been derived so far. In this paper, we establish explicit inequality relationships between Rα and Qα . Also, we determine linear inequality relationships between these graph invariants. Moreover, we obtain some new inequalities for various vertex-degree-based topological indices by the appropriate choice of α .

Depending on where the centroid of the graph is, we will present three candidates for the minimization, namely the greedy unicyclic graph, the cycle-centered graph and the out-greedy unicyclic graph.

Abstract:The reciprocal degree resistance distance index of a connected graph $G$ is defined as $RDR(G)=\sum\limits_{\{u,v\}\subseteq V(G)}\frac {d_G(u)+d_G(v)}{r_G(u,v)}$, where $r_G(u,v)$ is the resistance distance between vertices $u$ and $v$ in $G$. Let $\mathscr {U}_n$ denote the set of unicyclic graphs with $n$ vertices. We study the graph with maximum reciprocal degree resistance distance index among all graphs in $\mathscr {U}_n$, and characterize the corresponding extremal graph.

Abstract:The general sum-connectivity and Platt indices of a graph G are defined by and , respectively, where a is a real number, E ( G ) indicates the edge set of G , and indicates the degree of a vertex v of G . The cyclomatic number of G is the least number of edges required to be deleted from G to make it acyclic. If the maximum degree of G is less than 5, then G is referred to as a molecular graph. In this paper, the problem of determining graphs possessing the minimum values of the indices and among all connected (molecular) graphs of order n and cyclomatic number t is solved for $0<a<1$ and with . It is proved that the difference between the maximum and minimum degrees of the aforementioned extremal graphs is at most 1.</a<1\)<>

Abstract:Let G be a connected graph with order n, minimum degree δ = δ(G) and edge-connectivity λ = λ(G). A graph G is maximally edge-connected if λ = δ, and super edge-connected if every minimum edgecut consists of edges incident with a vertex of minimum degree. Define the zeroth-order general Randić index $R_\alpha ^0\left( G \right) = \sum\limits_{x \in V\left( G \right)} {d_G^\alpha \left( x \right)} $, where dG(x) denotes the degree of the vertex x. In this paper, we present two sufficient conditions for graphs and triangle-free graphs to be super edge-connected in terms of the zeroth-order general Randić index for −1 ≤ α < 0, respectively.

Abstract:In discrete mathematics, graph theory is the study of graphs, which are mathematical structures used to model pairwise relations between objects. Chemical graph theory is concerned with non-trivial applications of graph theory to the solution of molecular problems. Its main goal is to use numerical invariants to reduce the topological structure of a molecule to a single number that characterizes its properties. Topological indices are numerical invariants associated with the chemical constitution, for the purpose of the correlation of chemical structures with various physical properties, chemical reactivity, or biological activity. They have found important application in predicting the behavior of chemical substances. The Graovac–Ghorbani (ABCGG) index is a topological descriptor that has improved predictive potential compared to analogous descriptors. It is used to model both the boiling point and melting point of molecules and is applied in the pharmaceutical industry. In the recent years, the number of publications on its mathematical properties has increased. The aim of this work is to partially solve an open problem, namely to find the structure of unicyclic graphs that minimize the ABCGG index. We characterize unicyclic graphs with even girth that minimize the ABCGG index, while we also present partial results for odd girths. As an auxiliary result, we compare the ABCGG indices of paths and cycles with an odd number of vertices.

Abstract:The Randi\'{c} index $R(G)$ of a graph $G$ is defined as the sum of $(d_i d_j)^{-1/2}$ over all edges $v_i v_j$ of $G$, where $d_i$ is the degree of the vertex $v_i$ in $G$. The radius $r(G)$ of a graph $G$ is the minimum graph eccentricity of any graph vertex in $G$. Fajtlowicz(1988) conjectures $R(G) \ge r(G)-1$ for all connected graph $G$. A stronger version, $R(G) \ge r(G)$, is conjectured by Caporossi and Hansen(2000) for all connected graphs except even paths. In this paper, we make use of Harmonic index $H(G)$, which is defined as the sum of $\frac{2}{d_i+d_j}$ over all edges $v_i v_j$ of $G$, to show that $R(G) \ge r(G)-31/105(k-1)$ for any graph with cyclomatic number $k\ge 1$, and $R(T)> r(T)+1/15$ for any tree except even paths. These results improve and strengthen the known results on these conjectures.

Abstract:The general Randic index of a molecular graph G is the sum of [d(u)d(v)](alpha) over all edges uv is an element of G, where d(v) denotes the degree of the vertex v in alpha and u is an arbitrary number. When alpha = -1/2, it is called the Randic index. Delorme et al. stated a best possible lower bound on the Randit index of a triangle-free graph with given minimum degree. Their false proof was pointed out by Liu et al. In this note, we derive some sharp bounds on the general Randic index which implies their lower bound for triangle-free graphs of order n with maximum degree at most n/4, and also prove it for triangle-free graphs with small minimum degree. Abstract:O and Shi proved that the Randić index of any graph $G$ with minimum degree at least $\delta$ and maximum degree at most $\Delta$ is at least $\frac{\sqrt{\delta\Delta}}{\delta+\Delta}|G|$, with equality if and only if the graph is $(\delta,\Delta)$-biregular. In this note we give a short proof via a more general statement. We apply the latter to classify the graphs in any given degree range which minimise (or maximise) the generalised Randić index for any exponent, and describe the transitions between different types of behaviour precisely.
