Abstract:Recently, we have applied the generalized Littlewood theorem concerning contour integrals of the logarithm of the analytical function to find the sums over inverse powers of zeros for the incomplete gamma and Riemann zeta functions, polygamma functions, and elliptical functions. Here, the same theorem is applied to study such sums for the zeros of the Hurwitz zeta function ζ(s,z), including the sum over the inverse first power of its appropriately defined non-trivial zeros. We also study some related properties of the Hurwitz zeta function zeros. In particular, we show that, for any natural N and small real ε, when z tends to n = 0, −1, −2... we can find at least N zeros of ζ(s,z) in the ε neighborhood of 0 for sufficiently small |z+n|, as well as one simple zero tending to 1, etc.

Moreover, we estimate the discrete mean value above for higher derivatives where is replaced by for all . The formulae we obtain generalize a number of previous results in the literature. Abstract:In this article, we extend the result of Conrey [5, Theorem 2] to shorter intervals for higher-order derivatives of the zeta function. That is we study the mean value of the product of two finite order derivatives of the zeta function multiplied by a mollifier in short intervals. In this process, we obtain better mollifier length in some short intervals compared to the length of mollifier implied by Conrey's result. These finer studies allow us to refine the error term of some classical results of Levinson and Montgomery [13], Ki and Lee [11] on zero density estimates of $\zeta^{(k)}$.

On Edwards' Speculation and a New Variational Method for the Zeros of the $Z$-Function

Abstract:In his foundational book, Edwards introduced a unique "speculation" regarding the possible theoretical origins of the Riemann Hypothesis, based on the properties of the Riemann-Siegel formula. Essentially Edwards asks whether one can find a method to transition from zeros of $Z_0(t)=cos(\theta(t))$, where $\theta(t)$ is Riemann-Siegel theta function, to zeros of $Z(t)$, the Hardy $Z$-function. However, when applied directly to the classical Riemann-Siegel formula, it faces significant obstacles in forming a robust plausibility argument for the Riemann Hypothesis.

Abstract:Let $X$ be a smooth proper curve over a finite field and let $\infty \in X$ be a closed point. Let $A$ be the ring of functions on $X - \infty$. The Goss zeta function $\zeta_A$ of $A$ is an equicharacteristic analogue of the Riemann zeta function. In this article we study the zeros of $\zeta_A$ under the generic condition that $X$ is ordinary. We prove an analogue of the Riemann hypothesis, which verifies a corrected version of a conjecture of Goss. We also show that the zeros of $\zeta_A$ at negative even integers are `simple' and that $\zeta_A$ is nonzero at negative odd integers. This answers questions posed by Goss and Thakur. Both of these results were previously only known under the restrictive hypothesis that $A$ has class number one. Finally, we prove versions of these results for $v$-adic interpolations of the Goss zeta function.

Abstract:Almost twelve decades ago, Mathieu investigated an interesting series S(r) in the study of elasticity of solid bodies. Since then many authors have studied various problems arising from the Mathieu series S(r) in various diverse ways. In this paper, we present a relationship between the Mathieu series S(r) and certain series involving the Zeta functions. By means of this relationship, we then express the Mathieu series S(r) in terms of the Trigamma function ψ′(z) or (equivalently) the Hurwitz (or generalized) Zeta function ζ(s,a). Accordingly, various interesting properties of S(r) can be obtained from those of ψ′(z) and ζ(s,a). Among other results, certain integral representations of S(r) are deduced here by using the aforementioned relationships among S(r), ψ′(z) and ζ(s,a).

As a consequence, we improve the explicit zero-free region for $\zeta(s)$, showing that $\zeta(\sigma+it)$ has no zeros in the region $\sigma \geq 1-1 /\left(54.004(\log |t|)^{2 / 3}(\log \log |t|)^{1 / 3}\right)$ for $|t| \geq 3$ and asymptotically in the region $\sigma \geq 1-1 /\left(48.0718(\log |t|)^{2 / 3}(\log \log |t|)^{1 / 3}\right)$ for $|t|$ sufficiently large.

Abstract:In two previous papers the second author proved some Carlson type density theorems for zeroes in the critical strip for Beurling zeta functions satisfying Axiom A of Knopfmacher. In the first of these invoking two additonal conditions were needed, while in the second an explicit, fully general result was obtained. Subsequently, Frederik Broucke and Gregory Debruyne obtained, via a different method, a general Carlson type density theorem with an even better exponent, and recently Frederik Broucke improved this further, getting $N(\sigma,T) \le T^{a(1-\sigma)}$ with any $a>\dfrac{4}{1-\theta}$. Broucke employed a new mean value estimate of the Beurling zeta function, while he did not use the method of Halász and Montgomery. Here we elaborate a new approach of the first author, using the classical zero detecting sums coupled with a kernel function technique and Halász' method, but otherwise arguing in an elementary way avoiding e.g. mean value estimates for Dirichlet polynomials. We will make essential use of the additional assumptions that the Beurling system of integers consists of natural numbers, and that the system satisfies the Ramanujan condition, too. This way we give a new variant of the Carlson type density estimate with similar strength as Turán's 1954 result for the Riemann $\zeta$ function, coming close even to the Density Hypothesis for $\sigma$ close to 1.

Abstract:Contour integral representations for Riemann's Zeta function and Dirichelet's Eta (alternating Zeta) function are presented and investigated. These representations flow naturally from methods developed in the 1800's, but somehow they do not appear in the standard reference summaries, textbooks or literature. Using these representations as a basis, alternate derivations of known series and integral representations for the Zeta and Eta function are obtained on a unified basis that differs from the textbook approach, and results are developed that appear to be new.

Abstract:While many zeros of the Riemann zeta function are located on the critical line $\Re(s)=1/2$, the non-existence of zeros in the remaining part of the critical strip $\Re(s) \in \, ]0, 1[$ is the main scope to be proven for the Riemann hypothesis. The Riemann zeta functional leads to a relation between the zeros on either sides of the critical line. Given $s$ a complex number and $\bar{s}$ its complex conjugate, if $s$ is a zero of the Riemann zeta function in the critical strip $\Re(s) \in \, ]0, 1[$, then $\zeta(s) = \zeta(1-\bar{s})$, as a key proposition to prove the Riemann hypothesis.

Abstract:We present several formulae for the large $t$ asymptotics of the Riemann zeta function $\zeta(s)$, $s=\sigma+i t$, $0\leq \sigma \leq 1$, $t>0$, which are valid to all orders. A particular case of these results coincides with the classical results of Siegel. Using these formulae, we derive explicit representations for the sum $\sum_a^b n^{-s}$ for certain ranges of $a$ and $b$. In addition, we present precise estimates relating this sum with the sum $\sum_c^d n^{s-1}$ for certain ranges of $a, b, c, d$. We also study a two-parameter generalization of the Riemann zeta function which we denote by $\Phi(u,v,\beta)$, $u\in \mathbb{C}$, $v\in \mathbb{C}$, $\beta \in \mathbb{R}$. Generalizing the methodology used in the study of $\zeta(s)$, we derive asymptotic formulae for $\Phi(u,v,\beta)$.

Abstract:We present an explicit formula for a weighted sum over the zeros of the Riemann zeta function. This weighted sum is evaluated in terms of a sum over the prime numbers, weighted with help of the Hermite polynomials. From the explicit formula presented in this note, it follows that prime numbers determine the distribution of the zeros of the Riemann zeta function. In fact, it is possible to compute the zeros of the zeta function without actually using this function.
