Abstract:The single crystal growth and superconducting properties of PbTaSe2 with non-centrosymmetric crystal structure is reported. Using the chemical vapor transport (CVT) technique, PbTaSe2 crystallizes in a layered structure and the crystal symmetry has been shown belonging to a non-centrosymmetric space group P6-m2 confirmed by the consistent band picture near the Fermi level between the angle-resolved photoemission spectrum (ARPES) and theoretical calculations. Superconductivity with Tc =3.83 K has been characterized fully with electrical resistivity \r{ho}(T), magnetic susceptibility \c{hi}(T), and specific heat C(T) measurements using single crystal samples. The superconducting anisotropy, electron-phonon coupling {\lambda}ep, superconducting energy gap {\Delta}0, and the specific heat jump {\Delta}C/{\lambda}Tc at Tc confirms that PbTaSe2 can be categorized as a weakly coupled type-II superconductor.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The main problem that this paper attempts to solve is to explore the single - crystal growth of the non - centrosymmetric material PbTaSe₂ and its superconducting properties. Specifically: 1. **Single - crystal growth**: The researchers successfully synthesized single - crystal samples of PbTaSe₂ using the Chemical Vapor Transport (CVT) technique. Through this method, they were able to obtain crystals with a layered structure and confirm that their crystal symmetry belongs to the non - centrosymmetric space group P\(\bar{m}2\) (No. 187). 2. **Superconducting properties**: The researchers comprehensively characterized the superconducting properties of PbTaSe₂ through resistivity (\(\rho(T)\)), magnetic susceptibility (\(\chi(T)\)) and specific heat (\(C(T)\)) measurements. The results show that PbTaSe₂ undergoes a superconducting transition at 3.83 ± 0.02 K and exhibits the characteristics of a weakly - coupled type - II superconductor, such as superconducting anisotropy, the electron - phonon coupling constant \(\lambda_{ep}\), the superconducting gap \(\Delta_0\) and the specific heat jump \(\Delta C/\gamma T_c\), etc. 3. **Non - centrosymmetry verification**: Through X - ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning tunneling microscope (STM) surface analysis, the researchers confirmed the non - centrosymmetric structure of PbTaSe₂. In particular, the STM images show that the ordered arrangement of Ta atoms in the lattice is consistent with the non - centrosymmetric space group P\(\bar{m}2\). 4. **Electronic structure calculation**: Through first - principles calculations, the researchers explored the band structure of PbTaSe₂ and found the differences between the low - symmetry (P\(\bar{m}2\)) and high - symmetry (P6/mmm) structures. In the low - symmetry structure, there are nodal - line states caused by spin - orbit coupling. These states are protected by reflection symmetry and have integer topological invariants. In summary, this paper aims to systematically study the single - crystal growth and superconducting properties of PbTaSe₂ through experimental and theoretical calculations, especially the influence of its non - centrosymmetric structure on the superconducting properties.
