Abstract:We prove that the Lipshitz-Ozsváth-Thurston correspondence between extended type D structures of knot complements and $\mathbb{F}[U, V]/(UV)$ knot Floer complexes can be arranged so that $\iota_K$-invariant splittings of knot Floer chain complexes correspond to $\iota_{S^3 \setminus K}$-invariant splittings of bordered Floer homology of knot complements. For patterns satisfying the satellite extension property, which include cabling patterns, this provides a novel way to compute the involutive knot Floer homology of satellites from that of their companions. As a topological application, we show that our results can be applied to construct infinitely many examples of exotic pairs of contractible 4-manifolds which remain exotic after one stabilization. Along the way, we also establish first order naturality of bordered Floer homology.

Abstract:In this paper, we define a new algebro-geometric invariant of three-manifolds resulting from Dehn surgery along a hyperbolic knot complement in S-3. We establish a Casson-type invariant for these three-manifolds. In the last section, we explicitly calculate the character variety of the figure-eight knot and discuss some applications, as well as the computation of our new invariants for some three-manifolds resulting from Dehn surgery along the figure-eight knot.

Abstract:We survey our contributions on the classification of elliptic fibrations on K3 surfaces with a non-symplectic involution. We place them in the more general framework of K3 surfaces with an involution without any hypothesis on its fixed locus or on the action on the symplectic 2-form. We revisit the complete classification of elliptic fibrations on K3 surfaces with a 2-elementary Néron--Severi lattice, and give a complete classification of extremal elliptic fibrations on K3 surfaces that are quadratic covers of rational elliptic surfaces.

New invariants of involutions from Seiberg-Witten Floer theory

Abstract:We study equivariant Seiberg-Witten Floer theory of rational homology $3$-spheres in the special case where the group action is given by an involution. The case of involutions deserves special attention because we can couple the involution to the charge conjugation symmetry of Seiberg-Witten theory. This leads to new Floer-theoretic invariants which we study and apply in a variety of applications. In particular, we construct a series of delta-invariants $\delta^E_*, \delta^R_*, \delta^S_*$ which are the equivariant equivalents of the Ozsváth-Szabó $d$-invariant. The delta-invariants come in three types: equivariant, Real and spin depending on the type of the spin$^c$-structure involved. The delta-invariants satisfy many useful properties, including a Froyshov-type inequality for equivariant cobordisms. We compute the delta-invariants in a wide range of examples including: equivariant plumbings, branched double covers of knots and equivariant Dehn surgery. We also consider various applications including obstructions to extending involutions over bounding $4$-manifolds, non-smoothable involutions on $4$-manifolds with boundary, equivariant embeddings of $3$-manifolds in $4$-manifolds and non-orientable surfaces bounding knots.

Abstract:Let X be a Hyperkähler variety deformation equivalent to the Hilbert square on a K3 surface and let f be an involution preserving the symplectic form. We prove that the fixed locus of f consists of 28 isolated points and 1 K3 surface, moreover the anti-invariant lattice of the induced involution on H^2(X,Z) is isomorphic to E_8(-2). Finally we prove that any couple consisting of one such variety and a symplectic involution on it can be deformed into a couple consisting of the Hilbert square of a K3 surface and the involution induced by a Nikulin involution on the K3 surface.

Abstract:Given an equivariant knot K of order 2, we study the induced action of the symmetry on the knot Floer homology. We relate this action with the induced action of the symmetry on the Heegaard Floer homology of large surgeries on K . This surgery formula can be thought of as an equivariant analog of the involutive large surgery formula proved by Hendricks and Manolescu. As a consequence, we obtain that for certain double branched covers of S3 and corks, the induced action of the involution on Heegaard Floer homology can be identified with an action on the knot Floer homology. As an application, we calculate equivariant correction terms which are invariants of a generalized version of the spin rational homology cobordism group, and define two knot concordance invariants. We also compute the action of the symmetry on the knot Floer complex of K for several equivariant knots.

Abstract:We give a rational surgery formula for the Casson-Walker invariant of a 2-component link in $S^{3}$ which is a generalization of Matveev-Polyak's formula. As application, we give more examples of non-hyperbolic L-space $M$ such that knots in $M$ are determined by their complements. We also apply the result for the cosmetic crossing conjecture.

Abstract:By examining the homology groups of a 4-manifold associated to an integral surgery on a knot $K$ in a rational homology 3-sphere $Y$ yielding a rational homology 3-sphere $Y^*$ with surgery dual knot $K^*$, we show that the subgroups generated by $[K]$ and $[K^*]$ in $H_1(Y)$ and $H_1(Y^*)$, respectively, have co-prime orders. We obtain an immediate corollary that, in conjunction with an argument of Lidman and Moore, proves the cosmetic crossing conjecture for knots whose branched double covers are Heegaard Floer L-spaces.

Abstract:We describe a simple formula for computing the Heegaard Floer multicurve invariant of double tangles from the Heegaard Floer multicurve invariant of knot complements. A comparison with a similar multicurve invariant for Conway tangles in the setting of Khovanov homology confirms that knot Floer homology and Khovanov homology behave very differently under satellite operations, echoing recent observations from <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="2208.13612" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2208.13612">arXiv:2208.13612</a>. We also obtain a new characterisation of L-space knots in terms of Heegaard Floer A-link satellites. Along the way, we find the first example of a satellite knot whose knot Floer homology is thin.

Abstract:Using bordered Floer theory, we construct an invariant $\widehat{\mathit{HFO}}(Y^{\text{orb}})$ for $3$-orbifolds $Y^{\text{orb}}$ with singular set a knot that generalizes the hat flavor $\widehat{\mathit{HF}}(Y)$ of Heegaard Floer homology for closed $3$-manifolds $Y$. We show that for a large class of $3$-orbifolds, $\widehat{\mathit{HFO}}$ behaves like $\widehat{\mathit{HF}}$ in that $\widehat{\mathit{HFO}}$, together with a relative $\mathbb{Z}_2$-grading, categorifies the order of $H_1^{\text{orb}}$. When $Y^{\text{orb}}$ arises as Dehn surgery on an integer-framed knot in $S^3$, we use the $\{-1,0,1\}$-valued knot invariant $\varepsilon$ to determine the relationship between $\widehat{\mathit{HFO}}(Y^{\text{orb}})$ and $\widehat{\mathit{HF}}(Y)$ of the $3$-manifold $Y$ underlying $Y^{\text{orb}}$.

On contact invariants in bordered Floer homology

Abstract:In this paper, we define contact invariants in bordered sutured Floer homology. Given a contact 3-manifold with convex boundary, we apply a result of Zarev (<a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="1010.3496" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/1010.3496">arXiv:1010.3496</a>) to derive contact invariants in the bordered sutured modules $\widehat{\mathit{BSA}}$ and $\widehat{\mathit{BSD}}$, as well as in bimodules $\widehat{\mathit{BSAA}},$ $\widehat{\mathit{BSDD}},$ $\widehat{\mathit{BSDA}}$ in the case of two boundary components. In the connected boundary case, our invariants appear to agree with bordered contact invariants defined by Alishahi-Földvári-Hendricks-Licata-Petkova-Vértesi (<a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="2011.08672" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2011.08672">arXiv:2011.08672</a>) whenever the latter are defined, although ours can be defined in broader contexts. We prove that these invariants satisfy a pairing theorem, which is a bordered extension of the Honda-Kazez-Matić gluing map (<a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="0705.2828" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/0705.2828">arXiv:0705.2828</a>) for sutured Floer homology. We also show that there is a correspondence between certain $\mathcal{A}_{\infty}$ operations in bordered type-$A$ modules and bypass attachment maps in sutured Floer homology. As an application, we characterize the Stipsicz-Vértesi map from $\mathit{SFH}$ to $\widehat{\mathit{HFK}}$ as an $\mathcal{A}_{\infty}$ action on $\widehat{\mathit{CFA}}$. We also apply the immersed curve interpretation of Hanselman-Rasmussen-Watson (<a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="1604.03466" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/1604.03466">arXiv:1604.03466</a>) to prove results involving contact surgery.

Abstract:We define several equivariant concordance invariants using knot Floer homology. We show that our invariants provide a lower bound for the equivariant slice genus and use this to give a family of strongly invertible slice knots whose equivariant slice genus grows arbitrarily large, answering a question of Boyle and Issa. We also apply our formalism to several seemingly non-equivariant questions. In particular, we show that knot Floer homology can be used to detect exotic pairs of slice disks, recovering an example due to Hayden, and extend a result due to Miller and Powell regarding stabilization distance. Our formalism suggests a possible route towards establishing the non-commutativity of the equivariant concordance group.

Abstract:If a knot $K$ in $S^3$ admits a pair of truly cosmetic surgeries, we show that the surgery slopes are either $\pm 2$ or $\pm 1/q$ for some value of $q$ that is explicitly determined by the knot Floer homology of $K$. Moreover, in the former case the genus of $K$ must be two, and in the latter case there is bound relating $q$ to the genus and the Heegaard Floer thickness of $K$. As a consequence, we show that the cosmetic crossing conjecture holds for alternating knots (or more generally, Heegaard Floer thin knots) with genus not equal to two. We also show that the conjecture holds for any knot $K$ for which each prime summand of $K$ has at most 16 crossings; our techniques rule out cosmetic surgeries in this setting except for slopes $\pm 1$ and $\pm 2$ on a small number of knots, and these remaining examples can be checked by comparing hyperbolic invariants. These results make use of the surgery formula for Heegaard Floer homology, which has already proved to be a powerful tool for obstructing cosmetic surgeries; we get stronger obstructions than previously known by considering the full graded theory. We make use of a new graphical interpretation of knot Floer homology and the surgery formula in terms of immersed curves, which makes the grading information we need easier to access.

Abstract:For any (1,1)-knot in a lens space, we construct a co-oriented taut foliation in its complement that intersects the boundary torus transversely in a suspension foliation of the knot meridian, or the infinity slope. This provides new evidence for a conjecture made by Boyer, Gordon and Hu using slope detections, related to the L-space conjecture.

Abstract:We continue our study of the integer-valued knot invariants $\nu^\sharp(K)$ and $r_0(K)$, which together determine the dimensions of the framed instanton homologies of all nonzero Dehn surgeries on $K$. We first establish a "conjugation" symmetry for the decomposition of cobordism maps constructed in our earlier work, and use this to prove, among many other things, that $\nu^\sharp(K)$ is always either zero or odd. We then apply these technical results to study linear independence in the homology cobordism group, to define an instanton Floer analogue $\epsilon^\sharp(K)$ of Hom's $\epsilon$-invariant in Heegaard Floer homology, and to the problem of characterizing a given 3-manifold as Dehn surgery on a knot in $S^3$.

Abstract:Using contact-geometric techniques and sutured Floer homology, we present an alternate formulation of the minus and plus version of knot Floer homology. We further show how natural constructions in the realm of contact geometry give rise to much of the formal structure relating the various versions of Heegaard Floer homology. In addition, to a Legendrian or transverse knot K in a contact manifold (Y,\xi), we associate distinguished classes EHL(K) in the minus-version of knot floer homology and EHIL(K) in the plus version, which are each invariant under Legendrian or transverse isotopies of K. The distinguished class EHL is shown to agree with the Legendrian/transverse invariant defined by Lisca, Ozsvath, Stipsicz, and Szabo despite a strikingly dissimilar definition. While our definitions and constructions only involve sutured Floer homology and contact geometry, the identification of our invariants with known invariants uses bordered sutured Floer homology to make explicit computations of maps between sutured Floer homology groups.

Abstract:We use the immersed curves description of bordered Floer homology to study $d$-invariants of double branched covers $\Sigma_2(L)$ of arborescent links $L \subset S^3$. We define a new invariant $\Delta_{sym}$ of bordered $\mathbb{Z}_2$-homology solid tori from an involution of the associated immersed curves and relate it to both the $d$-invariants and the Neumann-Siebenmann $\bar\mu$-invariants of certain fillings. We deduce that if $L$ is a 2-component arborescent link and $\Sigma_2(L)$ is an L-space, then the spin $d$-invariants of $\Sigma_2(L)$ are determined by the signatures of $L$. By a separate argument, we show that the same relationship holds when $L$ is a 2-component link that admits a certain symmetry.

Abstract:We examine the symmetry of the complement of a non-trivial knot K in S3 and obtain a classification of the actions of finite groups on the complement of a non-trivial knot in the case where the actions extend to non-fixed point free actions on the three sphere. We prove the result by showing first an extension theorem which says that any action of finite group on a non-trivial knot complement extends to an action on the three sphere and then by applying the solution of the Smith conjecture.

Abstract:We study the homology concordance group of knots in integer homology three-spheres which bound integer homology four-balls. Using knot Floer homology, we construct an infinite number of $\mathbb{Z}$-valued, linearly independent homology concordance homomorphisms which vanish for knots coming from $S^3$. This shows that the homology concordance group modulo knots coming from $S^3$ contains an infinite-rank summand. The techniques used here generalize the classification program established in previous papers regarding the local equivalence group of knot Floer complexes over $\mathbb{F}[U, V]/(UV)$. Our results extend this approach to complexes defined over a broader class of rings.
