Abstract:In a recent paper, Rose proves that certain generalized sum-of-divisor functions are quasi-modular forms for some congruence subgroup and conjectures that these forms are quasi-modular for $\Gamma_1(n)$. Here, we prove this conjecture.

Abstract:We prove the unbounded denominators conjecture in the theory of noncongruence modular forms for finite index subgroups of SL_2(Z). Our result includes also Mason's generalization of the original conjecture to the setting of vector-valued modular forms, thereby supplying a new path to the congruence property in rational conformal field theory. The proof involves a new arithmetic holonomicity bound of a potential-theoretic flavor, together with Nevanlinna's second main theorem, the congruence subgroup property of SL_2(Z[1/p]), and a close description of the Fuchsian uniformization D(0,1)/\Gamma_N of the Riemann surface C \setminus \mu_N.

Abstract:Dumortier and Roussarie proposed a conjecture in their paper (2009, Discrete Con. Dyn. Sys., 2,723-781): For any \begin{document}$ q\in {\mathbb{N}} $\end{document} , the Abelian integrals \begin{document}$ J_{2j+1}(h) = \int_{\gamma_h}x^{2j-1}\,\mathrm dy $\end{document} , \begin{document}$ j = 0, 1, 2, \cdots, q $\end{document} , form a strict Chebyshev system on intervals \begin{document}$ h\in (0, \frac{1}{2}] $\end{document} , where \begin{document}$ \gamma_h = \{(x, y)| \mathrm e^{-2y}(y+\frac{1}{2}-x^2) = h\} $\end{document} . If this conjecture holds, then they obtain the precise upper bound of the number of limit cycles that appear near a slow-fast Hopf point of any codimension. In the present paper we develop a method to estimate the number of zeros of Abelian integrals and prove this conjecture.
A unified approach to Rohrlich-type divisor sums

Abstract:We propose a systematic method for analyzing Rohrlich-type divisor sums for arbitrary congruence subgroups $\Gamma_0(N)$. Our main theorem unifies various results from the literature, and its significance is illustrated through the following five applications: (1) the valence formula, (2) a natural generalization of classical Rohrlich's formula to level $N$, (3) an explicit version of the theorem by Bringmann-Kane-Löbrich-Ono-Rolen, (4) an extension of the generalized Rohrlich formula proposed by Bringmann-Kane, and (5) an alternative proof of the decomposition formula for twisted traces of CM values of weight 0 Eisenstein series.

Abstract:George Andrews and Peter Paule have recently conjectured an infinite family of congruences modulo powers of 3 for the 2-elongated plane partition function d2(n). This congruence family appears difficult to prove by classical methods. We prove a refined form of this conjecture by expressing the associated generating functions as elements of a ring of modular functions isomorphic to a localization of Z[X].

Abstract:Recently, MacMahon's generalized sum-of-divisor functions were shown to link partitions, quasimodular forms, and q-multiple zeta values. In this paper, we explore many further properties and extensions of these. Firstly, we address a question of Ono by producing infinite families of MacMahon-like functions that approximate the colored partition functions (and indeed other eta quotients). We further explore the MacMahon-like functions and discover new and suggestive arithmetic structure and modular completions.

A note on congruences for generalized cubic partitions modulo primes

Abstract:Recently, Amdeberhan, Sellers and Singh introduced the notion of a generalized cubic partition function $a_c(n)$ and proved two isolated congruences via modular forms, namely $a_3(7n+4)\equiv 0\pmod{7}$ and $a_5(11n+10)\equiv 0\pmod{11}$. In this paper, we provide another proofs of these congruences using classical $q$-series manipulations. We also give an infinite family of congruences for $a_c(n)$ for primes $p\equiv 5,7\pmod{8}$ and other isolated congruences modulo $19,23$ and $31$ using modular forms.

Elementary Proofs of Arithmetic Properties for Schur-Type Overpartitions Modulo Small Powers of 2

Abstract:In 2022, Broudy and Lovejoy extensively studied the function $S(n)$ which counts the number of overpartitions of \emph{Schur-type}. In particular, they proved a number of congruences satisfied by $S(n)$ modulo $2$, $4$, and $5$. In this work, we extend their list of arithmetic properties satisfied by $S(n)$ by focusing on moduli which are small powers of 2. In particular, we prove the following infinite family of Ramanujan-like congruences: For all $\alpha\geq 0$ and $n\geq 0$, $$ S\left(2^{5+2\alpha}n+\left(2^{5+2\alpha}-\frac{2^{2+2\alpha}-1}{3}\right)\right)\equiv 0 \pmod{16}. $$ All of the proof techniques used herein are elementary, relying on classical $q$-series identities and generating function manipulations as well as the parameterization work popularized by Alaca, Alaca, and Williams.

Abstract:We work out the exact relationship between algebraic modular forms for a two-by-two general unitary group over a definite quaternion algebra, and those arising from genera of positive-definite quinary lattices, relating stabilisers of local lattices with specific open compact subgroups, paramodular at split places, and with Atkin-Lehner operators. Combining this with the recent work of Rösner and Weissauer, proving conjectures of Ibukiyama on Jacquet-Langlands type correspondences (mildly generalised here), provides an effective tool for computing Hecke eigenvalues for Siegel modular forms of degree two and paramodular level. It also enables us to prove examples of congruences of Hecke eigenvalues connecting Siegel modular forms of degrees two and one. These include some of a type conjectured by Harder at level one, supported by computations of Fretwell at higher levels, and a subtly different congruence discovered experimentally by Buzzard and Golyshev.

Abstract:In this paper, we give a conjecture, which generalises Euler's partition theorem involving odd parts and different parts for all moduli. We prove this conjecture for two family partitions. We give $q$-difference equations for the related generating function if the moduli is three. We provide new companions to Rogers-Ramanujan-Andrews-Gordon identities under this conjecture.

Abstract:In this article, we present streamlined proofs of results of Ankeny, Artin, and Chowla concerning the fundamental unit of the real quadratic field $\mathbb{Q}(\sqrt{p})$ for primes $p\equiv 1 \bmod{4}$ while providing a generalization of their conjecture. Using our generalization, we relate Fermat quotients of quadratic non-residues $\bmod{p}$ to sums of harmonic numbers.

A note on odd partition numbers

Abstract:Ramanujan's celebrated partition congruences modulo $\ell\in \{5, 7, 11\}$ assert that $$ p(\ell n+\delta_{\ell})\equiv 0\pmod{\ell}, $$ where $0<\delta_{\ell}<\ell$ satisfies $24\delta_{\ell}\equiv 1\pmod{\ell}.$ By proving Subbarao's Conjecture, Radu showed that there are no such congruences when it comes to parity. There are infinitely many odd (resp. even) partition numbers in every arithmetic progression. For primes $\ell \geq 5,$ we give a new proof of the conclusion that there are infinitely many $m$ for which $p(\ell m+\delta_{\ell})$ is odd. This proof uses a generalization, due to the second author and Ramsey, of a result of Mazur in his classic paper on the Eisenstein ideal. We also refine a classical criterion of Sturm for modular form congruences, which allows us to show that the smallest such $m$ satisfies $m<(\ell^2-1)/24,$ representing a significant improvement to the previous bound.

Abstract:The equidistribution of roots of quadratic congruences with prime moduli depends crucially upon effective bounds for special Weyl linear forms. Duke, Friedlander and Iwaniec discovered strong estimates for these Weyl linear forms when the quadratic polynomial has negative discriminant. Tóth proved analogous but weaker bounds when the quadratic polynomial has positive discriminant. We establish strong estimates for these Weyl linear forms for quadratics of positive discriminants. As an application of our bounds, we derive a quantitative uniform distribution of modular square roots with integer moduli in an arithmetic progression.

Small solutions of generic ternary quadratic congruences to general moduli

Abstract:We study small non-trivial solutions of quadratic congruences of the form $x_1^2+\alpha_2x_2^2+\alpha_3x_3^2\equiv 0 \bmod{q}$, with $q$ being an odd natural number, in an average sense. This extends previous work of the authors in which they considered the case of prime power moduli $q$. Above, $\alpha_2$ is arbitrary but fixed and $\alpha_3$ is variable, and we assume that $(\alpha_2\alpha_3,q)=1$. We show that for all $\alpha_3$ modulo $q$ which are coprime to $q$ except for a small number of $\alpha_3$'s, an asymptotic formula for the number of solutions $(x_1,x_2,x_3)$ to the congruence $x_1^2+\alpha_2x_2^2+\alpha_3x_3^2\equiv 0 \bmod{q}$ with $\max\{|x_1|,|x_2|,|x_3|\}\le N$ and $(x_3,q)=1$ holds if $N\ge q^{11/24+\varepsilon}$ and $q$ is large enough. It is of significance that we break the barrier 1/2 in the above exponent. Key tools in our work are Burgess's estimate for character sums over short intervals and Heath-Brown's estimate for character sums with binary quadratic forms over small regions whose proofs depend on the Riemann hypothesis for curves over finite fields. We also formulate a refined conjecture about the size of the smallest solution of a ternary quadratic congruence, using information about the Diophantine properties of its coefficients.

Abstract:We define some formal moduli space of quasi-isogenies of isoclinic $p$-divisible groups with a non-reductive group as the "structure group". We then formulate new Arithmetic Fundamental Lemma conjectures for Bessel subgroups in the context of the arithmetic Gan-Gross-Prasad conjectures. Some (very limited) evidence is presented.

On the Iwasawa Main Conjecture for generalized Heegner classes in a quaternionic setting

Abstract:We prove one divisibility relation of the anticyclotomic Iwasawa Main Conjecture for a higher weight ordinary modular form $f$ and an imaginary quadratic field satisfying a "relaxed" Heegner hypothesis. Let $\Lambda$ be the anticyclotomic Iwasawa algebra. Following the approach of Howard and Longo--Vigni, we construct the $\Lambda$-adic Kolyvagin system of generalized Heegner classes coming from Heegner points on a suitable Shimura curve. As its application, we also prove one divisibility relation in the Iwasawa-Greenberg main conjecture for the $p$-adic $L$-function defined by Magrone.

Abstract:We prove conjectured formulas for 1π due to Chan and Verrill and related to modular forms for Γ0(6)+3 . These experimental results from Chan and Verrill involve the sequence of Domb numbers and were discovered via the PARI software. A key tool involved in our proofs of Chan and Verrill's conjectures is given by an identity from Rogers derived via three-variable Mahler measures.

Abstract:Let S ( n ) denote the number of overpartitions of Schur-type. Recently, Chern, da Silva and Sellers proved many congruences modulo 8 and 16 for S ( n ). At the end of their paper, they also posed a conjecture on internal congruences modulo 32 for S ( n ). In this paper, we confirm their conjecture by using theta function identities and the ( p , k )-parameterization of theta functions given by Alaca and Williams. In particular, we show that for any integer j with 0 ≤ j ≤ 31, there are infinitely many integers u j such that S ( u j ) ≡ j (mod 32).

Abstract:In this work, we prove that a sequence arising from modular forms under some prescribed conditions for $\Gamma$ that is $\Gamma_{0}(N)$ or an Atkin--Lehner extension of $\Gamma_{0}(N)$ must satisfy the Lucas congruences modulo any prime. As an implication, we completely affirm all the conjectural Lucas congruences that were recently posed by Cooper and reinterpret a number of known results.

Abstract:Let $c\phi_{k}(n)$ be the $k$-colored generalized Frobenius partition function. By employing the generating function of $c\phi_{6}(3n+1)$ found by Hirschhorn, we prove that $c\phi_{6}(27n+16)\equiv 0$ (mod 243). This confirms a conjecture of E.X.W. Xia. We also find a congruence relation $c\phi_{6}(81n+61) \equiv 3 c\phi_{6}(9n+7)$ (mod 243). Moreover, we show that $c\phi_{6}(81n+61) \equiv 0$ (mod 81), $c\phi_{6}(243n+142) \equiv 0$ (mod 243) and $c\phi_{6}(729n+ 547) \equiv 0$ (mod 243). We further conjecture that for $n\ge 0$, $c\phi_{6}(243n+142) \equiv 0$ (mod 729).

Abstract:We consider certain q-series depending on parameters (A,B,C), where A is a positive definite r times r matrix, B is an r-vector and C is a scalar, and ask when these q-series are modular forms. Werner Nahm conjectured a criterion for which A's can occur, in terms of torsion in the Bloch group. The conjecture was proved by Don Zagier and Michael Terhoeven for r=1. We develop their approach for r>1 and find several new examples of modular forms as well as some counterexamples to Nahm's conjecture.
