Abstract:In fuzzy group theory many versions of the well-known Lagrange's theorem have been studied. The aim of this article is to investigate the converse of one of those results. This leads to an interesting characterization of finite cyclic groups.

Abstract:In this paper we extend the concept of fuzzy AG-subgroups. We introduce some results in normal fuzzy AG-subgroups. We define fuzzy cosets and quotient fuzzy AG-subgroups, and prove that the sets of their collection form an AG-subgroup and fuzzy AG-subgroup respectively. We also introduce the fuzzy Lagrange's Theorem of AG-subgroup. It is known that the condition $\mu(xy)=\mu(yx)$ holds for all $x,y$ in fuzzy subgroups if $\mu$ is normal, but in fuzzy AG-subgroup we show that it holds without normality.

Local converse theorems and Langlands parameters

Abstract:Let $F$ be a non Archimedean local field, and $G$ be the $F$-points of a connected quasi-split reductive group defined over $F$. In this note we propose a converse theorem statement for generic Langlands parameters of $G$ when the Langlands dual group of $G$ is acceptable. We then prove it when $G$ is $F$-split. Then we consider a variant which we prove for $G=\mathrm{G}_2(F)$ and all quasi-split classical groups. When $F$ has characteristic zero and assuming the validity of the Gross-Prasad and Rallis conjecture, this latter variant translates via the generic local Langlands correspondence of Jantzen and Liu, into the usual local converse theorems for classical groups expressed in terms of Shahidi's gamma factors.

The categorical form of Fargues' conjecture for tori

Abstract:We prove the main conjecture of <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="2102.13459" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2102.13459">arXiv:2102.13459</a> for integral coefficients in the case of tori and prove that it is t-exact. Along the way we prove that the spectral action as constructed in that manuscript is compatible with the action of the excursion algebra and preserves the grading by $\pi_1(G)_Q$ on both sides. We additionally develop a (non-solidified) version of condensed group (co)homology and show that many constructions from classical group (co)homology extend to that case.

The Reverse Representation Problem

Abstract:Cayley's theorem tells us that all groups $\mathbf{G}$ occur as subgroups of the group of automorphisms over some set $X$. In this paper we consider a `sort-of' converse to this question: given a set $X$ and some transformation group $\mathbf{S}$ over $X$, what are the possible group structures on $X$ that result in groups represented by $\mathbf{S}$? We solve this problem in the more general setting of faithful semigroups and observe that the solutions to this problem, which we term unrepresentations, have the structure of a heap. We study this phenomenon in depth and then move onto looking at particular classes of semigroups namely monoids, groups, inverse semigroups and Clifford semigroups.

Abstract:Let $F$ and $F'$ be two $l$-close nonarchimedean local fields, where $l$ is a positive integer, and let $\mathrm{T}$ and $\mathrm{T}'$ be two tori over $F$ and $F'$, respectively, such that their cocharacter lattices can be identified as modules over the ''at most $l$-ramified'' absolute Galois group $\Gamma_F/I_F^l \cong\Gamma_{F'}/I_{F'}^l$. In the spirit of the work of Kazhdan and Ganapathy, for every positive integer $m$ relative to which $l$ is large, we construct a congruent isomorphism $\mathrm{T}(F)/\mathrm{T}(F)_m\cong\mathrm{T}'(F')/\mathrm{T}'(F')_m$, where $\mathrm{T}(F)_m$ and $\mathrm{T}(F')_m$ are the minimal congruent filtration subgroups of $\mathrm{T}(F)$ and $\mathrm{T}(F')$, respectively, defined by J.-K.~Yu. We prove that this isomorphism is functorial and compatible with both the isomorphism constructed by Chai and Yu and the Kottwitz homomorphism for tori. We show that, when $l$ is even larger relative to $m$, it moreover respects the local Langlands correspondence for tori.

Abstract:In this paper we use continuous family of multisections of the moduli space of pseudo holomorphic discs to partially improve, in the case of real coefficient, the construction of Lagrangian Floer cohomology of which the author developed jointly with Oh-Ohta-Ono. Namely we associate cyclically symmetric filtered A infinity algebra to every relatively spin Lagrangian submanifold. We use the same trick to construct a local rigid analytic family of filtered A infinity structure associated to a (family of) Lagrangian submanifolds. We include the study of homological algebra of pseudo-isotopy of cyclic (filtered) A infinity algebra.
A converse to a theorem of Gauss on Gauss sums

Abstract:In this note we prove (under mild hypotheses) that $f$ is a nontrivial character of $\mathbb{F}_p$ if and only if the Fourier transform of $f$ has magnitude 1 somewhere in $\mathbb{F}_p^\times$. This implies a converse to a theorem of Gauss on the magnitude of the Gauss sum, in addition to other consequences.

Abstract:We show that every Fricke invariant meromorphic modular form for $\Gamma_0(N)$ whose divisor on $X_0(N)$ is defined over $\mathbb{Q}$ and supported on Heegner divisors and the cusps is a generalized Borcherds product associated to a harmonic Maass form of weight $1/2$. Further, we derive a criterion for the finiteness of the multiplier systems of generalized Borcherds products in terms of the vanishing of the central derivatives of $L$-function of certain weight $2$ newforms. We also prove similar results for twisted Borcherds products.

Finite quotients of Fuchsian groups

Abstract:This work provides an effective algorithm for distinguishing finite quotients between two non-isomorphic finitely generated Fuchsian groups $\Gamma$ and $\Lambda$. It will suffice to take a finite quotient which is abelian, dihedral, a subgroup of $\mathrm{PSL}(2,\mathbf{F}_q)$, or an abelian extension of one of these 3. We will develop an approach for creating group extensions upon a shared finite quotient of $\Gamma$ and $\Lambda$ which between them have differing degrees of smoothness. Regarding the order of a finite quotient that distinguishes between $\Gamma$ and $\Lambda$, we establish an upperbound as a function of the genera, the number of punctures, and the cone orders arising in $\Gamma$ and $\Lambda$.

Asymptotic dynamics on amenable groups and van der Corput sets

Abstract:We answer a question of Bergelson and Lesigne by showing that the notion of van der Corput set does not depend on the Følner sequence used to define it. This result has been discovered independently by Saúl Rodríguez Martín. Both ours and Rodríguez's proofs proceed by first establishing a converse to the Furstenberg Correspondence Principle for amenable groups. This involves studying the distributions of Reiter sequences over congruent sequences of tilings of the group. Lastly, we show that many of the equivalent characterizations of van der Corput sets in $\mathbb{N}$ that do not involve Følner sequences remain equivalent for arbitrary countably infinite groups.

An inverse of Furstenberg's correspondence principle and applications to van der Corput sets

Abstract:In this article we give characterizations of the notions of van der Corput (vdC) set, nice vdC set and set of nice recurrence (defined below) in countable amenable groups. This allows us to prove that nice vdC sets are sets of nice recurrence and that vdC sets are independent of the Følner sequence used to define them, answering questions from Bergelson and Lesigne in the context of countable amenable groups. We also give a spectral characterization of vdC sets in abelian groups. The methods developed in this paper allow us to establish a converse to the Furstenberg correspondence principle. In addition, we introduce vdC sets in general non amenable groups and establish some basic properties of them, such as partition regularity. Several results in this paper, including the converse to Furstenberg's correspondence principle, have also been proved independently by Robin Tucker-Drob and Sohail Farhangi in their article `Van der Corput sets in amenable groups and beyond', which is being uploaded to arXiv simultaneously to this one.

Abstract:We prove a descent criterion for certain families of smooth representations of GL_n(F) (F a p-adic field) in terms of the gamma factors of pairs constructed in previous work of the second author. We then use this descent criterion, together with a theory of gamma factors for families of representations of the Weil group W_F (developed previously by both authors), to prove a series of conjectures, due to the first author, that give a complete description of the integral Bernstein center in terms of Galois theory and the local Langlands correspondence. An immediate consequence is the conjectural "local Langlands correspondence in families" of Emerton and Helm.

Topological Rigidity for FJ by the Infinite Cyclic Group

Abstract:We call a group FJ if it satisfies the $K$- and $L$-theoretic Farrell-Jones conjecture with coefficients in $\mathbb Z$. We show that if $G$ is FJ, then the simple Borel conjecture (in dimensions $\ge 5$) holds for every group of the form $G\rtimes\mathbb Z$. If in addition $Wh(G\times \mathbb Z)=0$, which is true for all known torsion free FJ groups, then the bordism Borel conjecture (in dimensions $n\ge 5$) holds for $G\rtimes\mathbb Z$. One of the key ingredients in proving these rigidity results is another main result, which says that if a torsion free group $G$ satisfies the $L$-theoretic Farrell-Jones conjecture with coefficients in $\mathbb Z$, then any semi-direct product $G\rtimes\mathbb Z$ also satisfies the $L$-theoretic Farrell-Jones conjecture with coefficients in $\mathbb Z$. Our result is indeed more general and implies the $L$-theoretic Farrell-Jones conjecture with coefficients in additive categories is closed under extensions of torsion free groups. This enables us to extend the class of groups which satisfy the Novikov conjecture.

The Conjugacy Ratio of Abelian-by-$\mathbb Z$ Groups

Abstract:Let $G = K \rtimes \langle t \rangle $ be a finitely generated group where $K$ is abelian and $\langle t\rangle$ is the infinite cyclic group. Let $ R $ be a finite symmetric subset of $K$ such that $S = \{ (r,1),(0,t^{\pm 1}) \mid r \in R \}$ is a generating set of $G$. We prove that the spherical conjugacy ratio, and hence the conjugacy ratio, of $G$ with respect to $S$ is $0$ unless $G$ is virtually abelian, confirming a conjecture of Ciobanu, Cox and Martino in this case. We also show that the Baumslag--Solitar group $\mathrm{BS}(1,2)$ has a one-sided Følner sequence $F$ such that the conjugacy ratio with respect to $F$ is non-zero, even though $\mathrm{BS}(1,2)$ is not virtually abelian. This is in contrast to two-sided Følner sequences, where Tointon showed that the conjugacy ratio with respect to a two-sided Følner sequence is positive if and only if the group is virtually abelian.

Fuzzy cylinders of finite length

Abstract:We introduce non-commutative algebras, which can be associated with the function algebra of functions on a finite or half-finite cylinder. The algebras, which depend on a deformation parameter, are crossed product algebras of a partial group action of $\mathbb{Z}$ on an interval of the real line $\mathbb{R}$. Discrete representations of the algebras can be seen as matrix regularizations of the respective function algebra on the finite or half-finite cylinder and therefore as fuzzy space. In a second part of the article, we review crossed product algebras based on partial group actions and derive the results needed in the first part.

Abstract:Stern-Gerlach experiment is a paradigm of measurement theory in quantum mechanics. Notwithstanding several analysis given in literature, no clear understanding of the apparent collapse has been given so far. Indeed, one can imagine a Stern-Gerlach device where all environmental effects are removed and ask the question on how the measurement goes on. In this letter we will prove that a the Stern-Gerlach device behaves as a true measurement apparatus, as expected by the Copenaghen interpretation, by the Ehrenfest theorem. In this way we recover, by other means, a limit on the Stern-Gerlach device, given by Bohm, based on scrambling of phases due to a large oscillation frequency.

An Arad and Fisman's theorem on products of conjugacy classes revisited

Abstract:A theorem of Z. Arad and E. Fisman establishes that if $A$ and $B$ are two conjugacy classes of a finite group $G$ such that either $AB=A\cup B$ or $AB=A^{-1} \cup B$, then $G$ cannot be non-abelian simple. We demonstrate that, in fact, $\langle A\rangle = \langle B\rangle$ is solvable, the elements of $A$ and $B$ are $p$-elements for some prime $p$, and $\langle A\rangle $ is $p$-nilpotent. Moreover, under the second assumption, it turns out that $A=B$ and this is the only possible case. This research is done by appealing to recently developed techniques and results that are based on the Classification of Finite Simple Groups.

Abstract:Let $G$ be an arbitrary group such that $G/\Z(G)$ is finite, where $\Z(G)$ denotes the center of the group $G$. Then $\gamma_2(G)$, the commutator subgroup of $G$, is finite. This result is known as Shur's theorem (the Schur's theorem). In this short note we provide a quick survey on the converse of Schur's theorem, generalize known results in this direction and prove the following result (which is perhaps the most suitable statement for converse of the Schur's theorem): If $G$ is an arbitrary group with finite $\gamma_2(G)$, then $G/\Z(G)$ is finite if $\Z_2(G)/\Z(\Z_2(G))$ is finitely generated, where $\Z_2(G)$ denotes the second center of a group $G$. If $G/\Z(G)$ is finite, then $\gamma_2(G)$ is also finite and $|G/\Z(G)| \le |\gamma_2(G)|^d$, where $d$ denotes the number of elements in any minimal generating ser for $G/\Z(G)$. We classify all nilpotent groups $G$ of class 2 upto isoclinism (in the sense of P. Hall) such that $|G/\Z(G)| = |\gamma_2(G)|^d$, and ask some questions in the sequel.

Stable functions and Følner's Theorem

Abstract:We show that if $G$ is an amenable group and $A\subseteq G$ has positive upper Banach density, then there is an identity neighborhood $B$ in the Bohr topology on $G$ that is almost contained in $AA^{-1}$ in the sense that $B\backslash AA^{-1}$ has upper Banach density $0$. This generalizes the abelian case (due to Følner) and the countable case (due to Beiglböck, Bergelson, and Fish). The proof is indirectly based on local stable group theory in continuous logic. The main ingredients are Grothendieck's double-limit characterization of relatively weakly compact sets in spaces of continuous functions, along with results of Ellis and Nerurkar on the topological dynamics of weakly almost periodic flows.
