Abstract:We are concerned with the supercritical contact process modified so that first infection occurs at a lower rate, it is known that the process survives with positive probability. Regarding the rightmost infected of the process started from one site infected and conditioned to survive, we specify a sequence of space-time points at which its behaviour regenerates and thus obtain the corresponding strong law and central limit theorem. We also extend complete convergence to this modified case.

Abstract:We study a one-dimensional contact process with two infection parameters. One giving the infection rates at the boundaries of a finite infected region and the other one the rates within that region. We prove that the critical value of each of these parameters is a strictly monotone continuous function of the other parameter. We also show that if one of these parameters is equal to the critical value of the standard contact process and the other parameter is strictly larger, then the infection starting from a single point has positive probability of surviving.

Abstract:The asymptotic shape theorem for the contact process in random environment gives the existence of a norm $\mu$ on $\Rd$ such that the hitting time $t(x)$ is asymptotically equivalent to $\mu(x)$ when the contact process survives. We provide here exponential upper bounds for the probability of the event $\{\frac{t(x)}{\mu(x)}\not\in [1-\epsilon,1+\epsilon]\}$; these bounds are optimal for independent random environment. As a special case, this gives the large deviation inequality for the contact process in a deterministic environment, which, as far as we know, has not been established yet.

Abstract:In this article, we consider the basic contact process in a static random environment on the half space Z^d× Z^+ where the recovery rates are constants and the infection rates are independent and identically distributed random variables. We show that, for almost every environment, the complete convergence theorem holds. This is a generalization of the known result for the classical contact process in the half space case.

Abstract:We consider a symmetric finite-range contact process on $\mathbb{Z}$ with two types of particles (or infections), which propagate according to the same supercritical rate and die (or heal) at rate $1$. Particles of type $1$ can enter any site in $(-\infty,0]$ that is empty or occupied by a particle of type $2$ and, analogously, particles of type $2$ can enter any site in $[1,\infty)$ that is empty or occupied by a particle of type $1$. Also, almost one particle can occupy each site. We prove that the process beginning with all sites in $(-\infty,0]$ occupied by particles of type 1 and all sites in $[1,\infty)$ occupied by particles of type 2 converges in distribution to an invariant measure different from the nontrivial invariant measure of the classic contact process. In addition, we prove that for any initial configuration the process converges to a convex combination of four invariant measures.

Abstract:This paper is concerned with the contact process with random vertex weights on regular trees, and studies the asymptotic behavior of the critical infection rate as the degree of the trees increasing to infinity. In this model, the infection propagates through the edge connecting vertices xand yat rate λρ(x)ρ(y) for some λ>0,where {ρ(x), x∈Td} are independent and identically distributed (i.i.d.) vertex weights. We show that when dis large enough, there is a phase transition at λc(d) ∈ (0,∞) such that for λ<λc (d),the contact process dies out, and for λ>λc(d),the contact process survives with a positive probability. Moreover, we also show that there is another phase transition at λe(d) such that for λ<λe(d),the contact process dies out at an exponential rate. Finally, we show that these two critical values have the same asymptotic behavior as dincreases.

Abstract:We consider two different objects on super-critical Bernoulli percolation on $\mathbb{Z}^d$ : the time constant for i.i.d. first-passage percolation (for $d\geq 2$) and the isoperimetric constant (for $d=2$). We prove that both objects are continuous with respect to the law of the environment. More precisely we prove that the isoperimetric constant of supercritical percolation in $\mathbb{Z}^2$ is continuous in the percolation parameter. As a corollary we prove that normalized sets achieving the isoperimetric constant are continuous with respect to the Hausdroff metric. Concerning first-passage percolation, equivalently we consider the model of i.i.d. first-passage percolation on $\mathbb{Z}^d$ with possibly infinite passage times: we associate with each edge $e$ of the graph a passage time $t(e)$ taking values in $[0,+\infty]$, such that $\mathbf{P}[t(e)<+\infty] >p_c(d)$. We prove the continuity of the time constant with respect to the law of the passage times. This extends the continuity property previously proved by Cox and Kesten for first passage percolation with finite passage times.

Abstract:We investigate the long time behavior of the critical mass Patlak-Keller-Segel equation. This equation has a one parameter family of steady-state solutions $\rho_\lambda$, $\lambda>0$, with thick tails whose second moment is not bounded. We show that these steady state solutions are stable, and find basins of attraction for them using an entropy functional ${\mathcal H}_\lambda$ coming from the critical fast diffusion equation in $\R^2$. We construct solutions of Patlak-Keller-Segel equation satisfying an entropy-entropy dissipation inequality for ${\mathcal H}_\lambda$. While the entropy dissipation for ${\mathcal H}_\lambda$ is strictly positive, it turns out to be a difference of two terms, neither of which need to be small when the dissipation is small. We introduce a strategy of "controlled concentration" to deal with this issue, and then use the regularity obtained from the entropy-entropy dissipation inequality to prove the existence of basins of attraction for each stationary state composed by certain initial data converging towards $\rho_\lambda$. In the present paper, we do not provide any estimate of the rate of convergence, but we discuss how this would result from a stability result for a certain sharp Gagliardo-Nirenberg-Sobolev inequality.

Abstract:We show that for long-range percolation with polynomially decaying connection probabilities in dimension $d\geq 2$, the critical value depends continuously on the precise specifications of the model. Among other things, we use this result to show transience of the infinite supercritical long-range percolation cluster in dimension $d\geq 3$ and to prove a shape theorem for super-critical long-range percolation in the strong decay regime.

Abstract:We consider the cardinality of supercritical oriented bond percolation in two dimensions. We show that, whenever the origin is conditioned to percolate, the process appropriately normalized converges asymptotically in distribution to the standard normal law. This resolves a longstanding open problem pointed out to in several instances in the literature. The result applies also to the continuous-time analog of the process, viz. the basic one-dimensional contact process. We also derive general random-indices central limit theorems for associated random variables as byproducts of our proof.

Abstract:We study a two-level contact process. We think of fleas living on a species of animals. The animals are a supercritical contact process in $\mathbb{Z}^d$. The contact process acts as the random environment for the fleas. The fleas do not affect the animals, give birth at rate $\mu$ when they are living on a host animal, and die at rate $\delta$ when they do not have a host animal. The main result is that if the contact process is supercritical and the fleas survive then the complete convergence theorem holds. This is done using a block construction so as a corollary we conclude that the fleas die out at their critical value.

Abstract:We study the contact process on a class of geometric random graphs with scale-free degree distribution, defined on a Poisson point process on $\mathbb{R}^d$. This class includes the age-dependent random connection model and the soft Boolean model. In the ultrasmall regime of these random graphs we provide exact asymptotics for the non-extinction probability when the rate of infection spread is small and show for a finite version of these graphs that the extinction time is of exponential order in the size of the graph.

Abstract:The stacked contact process is a stochastic model for the spreadof an infection within a population of hosts located on the d-dimensional integer lattice. Regardless of Whether they are healthy or infected, hosts give birth and die at the same rate and in accordance to the evolution rules of the neutral multitype contact process. The infection is transmitted both vertically from infected parents to their offspring and horizontally from infected hosts to nearby healthy hosts. The population survives if and only if the common birth rate of healthy and infected hosts exceeds the critical value of the basic contact process. The main purpose of this work is to study the existence of a phase transition between extinction and persistence of the infection in the parameter region where the hosts survive.

Abstract:The contact process is a simple model for the spread of an infection in a structured population. We investigate the case when the underlying structure evolves dynamically as a degree-dependent dynamical percolation model. Starting with a connected locally finite base graph we initially declare edges independently open with a probability that is allowed to depend on the degree of the adjacent vertices and closed otherwise. Edges are independently updated with a rate depending on the degrees and then are again declared open and closed with the same probabilities. We are interested in the contact process, where infections are only allowed to spread via open edges. Our aim is to analyze the impact of the update speed and the probability for edges to be open on the existence of a phase transition. For a general connected locally finite graph, our first result gives sufficient conditions for the critical value for survival to be strictly positive. Furthermore, in the setting of Bienaymé-Galton-Watson trees, we show that the process survives strongly with positive probability for any infection rate if the offspring distribution has a stretched exponential tail with an exponent depending on the percolation probability and the update speed. In particular, if the offspring distribution follows a power law and the connection probability is given by a product kernel and the update speed exhibits polynomial behaviour, we provide a complete characterisation of the phase transition.

Abstract:We investigate convergence of point processes associated with critical faces for a Čech filtration built over a homogeneous Poisson point process in the $d$-dimensional flat torus. The convergence of our point process is established in terms of the $\mathcal M_0$-topology, when the connecting radius of a Čech complex decays to $0$, so slowly that critical faces are even less likely to occur than those in the regime of threshold for homological connectivity. We also obtain a series of limit theorems for positive and negative critical faces, all of which are considerably analogous to those for critical faces.

Abstract:We consider a two-type contact process on $\Z$ in which both types have equal finite range and supercritical infection rate. We show that a given type becomes extinct with probability 1 if and only if, in the initial configuration, it is confined to a finite interval $[-L,L]$ and the other type occupies infinitely many sites both in $(-\infty, L)$ and $(L, \infty)$. We also show that, starting from the configuration in which all sites in $(-\infty, 0]$ are occupied by type 1 particles and all sites in $(0, \infty)$ are occupied by type 2 particles, the process $\rho_t$ defined by the size of the interface area between the two types at time $t$ is tight.

Some law of large numbers and $(1+\beta )$-stable central limit theorems are established for $(X_{t}(f) )_{t\geq 0}$, where the function $f$ is assumed to be of polynomial growth. A phase transition arises for the central limit theorems in the sense that the forms of the central limit theorem are different in three different regimes corresponding to the branching rate being relatively small, large or critical at a balanced value.

Abstract:The objective of this study is to examine the asymptotic behavior of Betti numbers of \v{C}ech complexes treated as stochastic processes and formed from random points in the $d$-dimensional Euclidean space $\mathbb{R}^d$. We consider the case where the points of the \v{C}ech complex are generated by a Poisson process with intensity $nf$ for a probability density $f$. We look at the cases where the behavior of the connectivity radius of \v{C}ech complex causes simplices of dimension greater than $k+1$ to vanish in probability, the so-called sparse and Poisson regimes, as well when the connectivity radius is on the order of $n^{-1/d}$, the critical regime. We establish limit theorems in all of the aforementioned regimes, a central limit theorem for the sparse and critical regimes, and a Poisson limit theorem for the Poisson regime. When the connectivity radius of the \v{C}ech complex is $o(n^{-1/d})$, i.e., the sparse and Poisson regimes, we can decompose the limiting processes into a time-changed Brownian motion and a time-changed homogeneous Poisson process respectively. In the critical regime, the limiting process is a centered Gaussian process but has much more complicated representation, because the \v{C}ech complex becomes highly connected with many topological holes of any dimension.
Contact processes with quenched disorder on $\mathbb{Z}^d$ and on Erdos-Renyi graphs

Abstract:In real systems impurities and defects play an important role in determining their properties. Here we will consider what probabilists have called the contact process in a random environment and what physicists have more precisely named the contact process with quenched disorder. We will concentrate our efforts on the special case called the random dilution model, in which sites independently and with probability $p$ are active and particles on them give birth at rate $\lambda$, while the other sites are inert and particles on them do not give birth. We show that the resulting inhomogeniety can make dramatic changes in the behavior in the supercritical, subcritical, and critical behavior. In particular, the usual exponential decay of the desnity of particles in the subcritical phase becomes a power law (the Griffiths phase), and polynomial decay at the critical value becomes a power of $\log$.
