Abstract:We desingularise the union of $3$ Grim paraboloids along Costa-Hoffman-Meeks surfaces in order to obtain complete embedded translating solitons of the mean curvature flow with $3$ ends and arbitrary finite genus.

Abstract:Some geometric behaviours of complete solutions to mean curvature flow before the singularities occur are studied. The author obtains the estimates of the rate of the distance between two fixed points and the derivatives of the second fundamental form. By use of a new maximum principle, some geometric properties at infinity are obtained.

Abstract:In this paper we study a contracting flow of closed, convex hypersurfaces in the Euclidean space ℝ^n+1 with speed f r^α K, where K is the Gauss curvature, r is the distance from the hypersurface to the origin, and f is a positive and smooth function. If α≥ n+1, we prove that the flow exists for all time and converges smoothly after normalisation to a soliton, which is a sphere centred at the origin if f ≡ 1. Our argument provides a parabolic proof in the smooth category for the classical Aleksandrov problem, and resolves the dual q-Minkowski problem introduced by Huang, Lutwak, Yang and Zhang (Acta Math. 216 (2016): 325-388), for the case q<0. If α < n+1, corresponding to the case q>0, we also establish the same results for even function f and origin-symmetric initial condition, but for non-symmetric f, counterexample is given for the above smooth convergence.

Abstract:In this paper we study the regularity and singularity of the mean curvature flow of closed, smooth, embedded hypersurfaces in the Euclidean space with positive mean curvature, with an attempt to understand the geometry of first time singularities. First we consider the mean curvature flow of graphs and convex hypersurfaces. Then we consider the special blow-up solutions at the maximal mean curvature points and obtain self-similar solutions at type I singularities and translating solutions at type II singularities. Finally we show that a general blow-up sequence converges along a subsequence to a convex limit flow, and give a classification of ancient convex solutions. 2000 Mathematics Subject Classification: 53C44, 53A10, 35J60.

Abstract:In this paper we study the theory of self translating solitons of the mean curvature flow of immersed surfaces in the product space $\mathbb{H}^2\times\mathbb{R}$. We relate this theory to the one of manifolds with density, and exploit this relation by regarding these translating solitons as minimal surfaces in a conformal metric space. Explicit examples of these surfaces are constructed, and we study the asymptotic behaviour of the existing rotationally symmetric examples. Finally, we prove some uniqueness and non-existence theorems.

Abstract:Let M n be a smooth, compact manifold without boundary, and F 0: M n → R n+1 a smooth immersion which is convex. The one-parameter families F(·, t): M n × [0, T) → R n+1 of hypersurfaces M t n = F(·, t)(M n ) satisfy an initial value problem dt/dF(·, t) = −H k (·, t)ν(·, t), F(·, 0) = F 0(·), where H is the mean curvature and ν(·, t) is the outer unit normal at F(·, t), such that −H ν = $\overrightarrow H $ is the mean curvature vector, and k > 0 is a constant. This problem is called H k -flow. Such flow will develop singularities after finite time. According to the blow-up rate of the square norm of the second fundamental forms, the authors analyze the structure of the rescaled limit by classifying the singularities as two types, i.e., Type I and Type II. It is proved that for Type I singularity, the limiting hypersurface satisfies an elliptic equation; for Type II singularity, the limiting hypersurface must be a translating soliton.

Abstract:We prove that any complete immersed two-sided mean convex translating soliton $\Sigma \subset \mathbb{R}^3$ for the mean curvature flow is convex. As a corollary it follows that an entire mean convex graphical translating soliton in $\mathbb{R}^3$ is the axisymmetric "bowl soliton". We also show that if the mean curvature of $\Sigma$ tends to zero at infinity, then $\Sigma$ can be represented as an entire graph and so is the "bowl soliton". Finally we classify all locally strictly convex graphical translating solitons defined over strip regions.

Abstract:In this paper we study conformal solitons for the mean curvature flow in hyperbolic space $\mathbb{H}^{n+1}$. Working in the upper half-space model, we focus on horo-expanders, which relate to the conformal field $-\partial_0$. We classify cylindrical and rotationally symmetric examples, finding appropriate analogues of grim-reaper cylinders, bowl and winglike solitons. Moreover, we address the Plateau and the Dirichlet problems at infinity. For the latter, we provide the sharp boundary convexity condition to guarantee its solvability, and address the case of noncompact boundaries contained between two parallel hyperplanes of $\partial_{\infty}\mathbb{H}^{n+1}$. We conclude by proving rigidity results for bowl and grim-reaper cylinders.

Abstract:In this paper, we study entire translating solutions u ( x ) u(x) to a mean curvature flow equation in Minkowski space. We show that if Σ = { ( x , u ( x ) ) | x ∈ R n } \Sigma =\{(x, u(x)) | x\in \mathbb {R}^n\} is a strictly spacelike hypersurface, then Σ \Sigma reduces to a strictly convex rank k k soliton in R k , 1 \mathbb {R}^{k,1} (after splitting off trivial factors) whose “blowdown” converges to a multiple λ ∈ ( 0 , 1 ) \lambda \in (0,1) of a positively homogeneous degree one convex function in R k \mathbb {R}^k . We also show that there is nonuniqueness as the rotationally symmetric solution may be perturbed to a solution by an arbitrary smooth order one perturbation.

Abstract:It is known that there is no a Type I singularity for the Lagrangian mean curvature flow with zero Maslov class. In this paper, we study translating solitons which are important models of Type II singularities. A necessary condition for a blow-up limit arising at a Type II singularity of a Lagrangian mean curvature flow with zero Maslov class is provided. As an application, we prove that the Lagrangian translating solitons constructed by Joyce-Lee-Tsui \cite{JLT} cannot be a blow-up limit for a Lagrangian mean curvature flow with zero Maslov class, answering an open question proposed by Joyce-Lee-Tsui and Neves-Tian \cite{NT}, as well as we also prove that the Grim Reaper cannot be a blow-up limit for a Lagrangian mean curvature flow with zero Maslov class.

Abstract:We prove that any complete immersed globally orientable uniformly 2-convex translating soliton $\Sigma \subset \mathbb{R}^{n+1}$ for the mean curvature flow is locally strictly convex. It follows that a uniformly 2-convex entire graphical translating soliton in $\mathbb{R}^{n+1},\, n\geq 3 $ is the axisymmetric "bowl soliton".

Abstract:We show that for certain one-parameter families of initial conditions in $\mathbb R^3$, when we run mean curvature flow, a genus one singularity must appear in one of the flows. Moreover, such a singularity is robust under perturbation of the family of initial conditions. This contrasts sharply with the case of just a single flow. As an application, we construct an embedded, genus one self-shrinker with entropy lower than a shrinking doughnut.

Abstract:It has long been conjectured that starting at a generic smooth closed embedded surface in R^3, the mean curvature flow remains smooth until it arrives at a singularity in a neighborhood of which the flow looks like concentric spheres or cylinders. That is, the only singularities of a generic flow are spherical or cylindrical. We will address this conjecture here and in a sequel. The higher dimensional case will be addressed elsewhere. The key in showing this conjecture is to show that shrinking spheres, cylinders and planes are the only stable self-shrinkers under the mean curvature flow. We prove this here in all dimensions. An easy consequence of this is that every other singularity than spheres and cylinders can be perturbed away.

Abstract:In this work we show that $2$-dimensional, simply connected, translating solitons of the mean curvature flow embedded in a slab of $\mathbb{R}^3$ with entropy strictly less than $3$ must be mean convex and thus, thanks to a result by J. Spruck and L. Xiao, are convex. Recently, such $2$-dimensional convex translating solitons have been completely classified by Hoffman, Ilmanen, Martín and White, up to an ambient isometry, as vertical plane, (tilted) grim reaper cylinders, $\Delta$-wings and bowl translater. These are all contained in a slab, except for the rotationally symmetric bowl translater. New examples show that the bound on the entropy is necessary.

Abstract:A soliton of the mean curvature flow in the product space $\mathbb{s}^2\times\mathbb{R}$ as a surface whose mean curvature $H$ satisfies the equation $H=\langle N,X\rangle$, where $N$ is the unit normal of the surface and $X$ is a Killing vector field. In this paper we consider the vector field tangent to the fibers and the vector field associated to a rotations about an axis of $\mathbb{s}^2$, respectively. We give a classification of the solitons with respect to these vector fields assuming that the surface is invariant under a one-parameter group of vertical translations or under a group of rotations of $\mathbb{s}^2$.

We study the basic properties, such as positivity preserving property, of the translating mean curvature flow. Abstract:If $\xi$ is a Killing vector field of the hyperbolic space $\h^3$ whose flow are parabolic isometries, a surface $\Sigma\subset\h^3$ is a $\xi$-translator if its mean curvature $H$ satisfies $H=\langle N,\xi\rangle$, where $N$ is the unit normal of $\Sigma$. We classify all $\xi$-translators invariant by a one-parameter group of rotations of $\h^3$, exhibiting the existence of a new family of grim reapers. We use these grim reapers to prove the non-existence of closed $\xi$-translators.

Abstract:We classify the surfaces translating under the flows by sub-affine-critical powers of the Gauss curvature. This, in particular, lists all translating solitons possibly model Type II singularities for convex closed solutions in all positive powers. The surfaces are entire graphs, and therefore our result corresponds to the Liouville theorem for the degenerate Monge--Ampère equations $\det D^2 u=(1+|Du|^2)^{2-\frac{1}{2\alpha}}$ on $\mathbb{R}^2$ in the range $0<\alpha <1/4$. The result also reveals that the moduli spaces of solutions are homeomorphic to either Euclidean spaces or cylinders.
