Abstract:A. Vershik discovered that filtrations indexed by the non-positive integers may have a paradoxical asymptotic behaviour near the time $$-\infty $$, called non-standardness. For example, two dyadic filtrations with trivial tail $$\sigma $$-field are not necessarily isomorphic. Yet, from any essentially separable filtration indexed by the non-positive integers, one can extract a subsequence which is a standard filtration. In this paper, we focus on the non-standard filtrations which become standard if (and only if) infinitely many integers are skipped. We call them filtrations at the threshold of standardness, since they are as close to standardardness as they can be although they are non-standard. Two classes of filtrations are studied, first the filtrations of the split-words processes, second some filtrations inspired by an unpublished example of B. Tsirelson. They provide examples which disprove some naive intuitions. For example, it is possible to have a standard filtration extracted from a non-standard one with no intermediate (for extraction) filtration at the threshold of standardness. It is also possible to have a filtration which provides a standard filtration on the even times but a non-standard filtration on the odd times.

Abstract:In this paper, we define a probabilistic version of filtration and use it to provide a finite approximation of Markov processes. In order to measure the approximation, we employ probability logic to construct the final Markov process and define a metric on the set of Markov processes through this logic. Moreover, we show that the set endowed with this metric is a Polish space. Finally we point to some questions connecting approximation to uniformity and approximate bisimilarity as topics for future research.

Abstract:In this paper, we explore various ways in which a factor $\sigma$-algebra $\mathscr{B}$ can sit in a dynamical system $\mathbf{X} :=(X, \mathscr{A}, \mu, T)$, i.e. we study some possible structures of the extension $\mathscr{A} \rightarrow \mathscr{B}$. We consider the concepts of super-innovations and standardness of extensions, which are inspired from the theory of filtrations. An important focus of our work is the introduction of the notion of confined extensions, whose initial interest is that they have no super-innovation. We give several examples and study additional properties of confined extensions, including several lifting results. Then, using $T, T^{-1}$ transformations, we show our main result: the existence of non-standard extensions. Finally, this result finds an application to the study of dynamical filtrations, i.e. filtrations of the form $(\mathscr{F}_n)_{n \leq 0}$ such that each $\mathscr{F}_n$ is a factor $\sigma$-algebra. We show that there exist non-standard I-cosy dynamical filtrations.
Thin-thick approach to martingale representations on progressively enlarged filtrations

Abstract:We study the predictable representation property in the progressive enlargement F^\tau of a reference filtration F by a random time \tau. Our approach is based on the decomposition of any random time into two parts, one overlapping F-stopping times (thin part) and the other one that avoids F-stopping times (thick part). We assume that the F-thin part of \tau is nontrivial and prove a martingale representation theorem on F^\tau. We thus extend previous results dealing with F-avoiding random times. We collect some examples of application to the enlargement of the natural filtration of a Lévy process.

Abstract:In this paper we introduce a localized and relativized generalization of the usual concept of Fejér monotonicity together with uniform and quantitative versions thereof and show that the main quantitative results obtained by the 1st author together with Nicolae and Leuştean in 2018 and with López-Acedo and Nicolae in 2019 respectively, extend to this generalization. Our framework, in particular, covers the sequence generated by the Dykstra algorithm while the latter is not Fejér-monotone in the ordinary sense. This gives a theoretical explanation why under a metric regularity assumption one obtains an explicit rate of convergence for Dykstra's algorithm which was proved recently by the 2nd author.

Abstract:Abstract We consider backward filtrations generated by processes coming from deterministic and probabilistic cellular automata. We prove that these filtrations are standard in the classical sense of Vershik’s theory, but we also study them from another point of view that takes into account the measure-preserving action of the shift map, for which each sigma-algebra in the filtrations is invariant. This initiates what we call the dynamical classification of factor filtrations, and the examples we study show that this classification leads to different results.

Abstract:We prove that the absolute spectral gap of any monotone Markov chain coincides with its optimal Ollivier-Ricci curvature, where the word `optimal' refers to the choice of the underlying metric. Moreover, we provide a new expression in terms of local variations of increasing functions, which has several practical advantages over the traditional variational formulation using the Dirichlet form. As an illustration, we explicitly determine the optimal curvature and spectral gap of the non-conservative exclusion process with heterogeneous reservoir densities on any network, despite the lack of reversibility.

Abstract:For Markov chains and Markov processes exhibiting a form of stochastic monotonicity (larger states shift up transition probabilities in terms of stochastic dominance), stability and ergodicity results can be obtained using order-theoretic mixing conditions. We complement these results by providing quantitative bounds on deviations between distributions. We also show that well-known total variation bounds can be recovered as a special case.

Abstract:This work is devoted to the so-called filtration theory of semigroup generators in the unit disk. It should be noted that numerous filtrations studied to nowdays have been introduced for different purposes and considered from different points of view. So, our aim is to summarize the known facts, to present common and distinct properties of filtrations as well as to study some new filtrations with an emphasis on their connection with geometric function theory and the dynamic features of semigroups generated by elements of different filtration families. Among the dynamic properties, we mention the uniform convergence on the unit disk and the sectorial analytical extension of semigroups with respect to their parameter. We also solve the Fekete--Szegö problem over various filtration classes, as well as over non-linear resolvents.

Abstract:In this paper we study the asymptotic behavior of linear processes having as innovations mean zero, square integrable functions of stationary reversible Markov chains. In doing so we shall preserve the generality of coefficients assuming only that they are square summable. In this way we include in our study the long range dependence case. The only assumption imposed on the innovations is the absolute summability of their covariances. Besides the central limit theorem we also study the convergence to fractional Brownian motion. The proofs are based on general results for linear processes with stationary innovations that have interest in themselves.

Abstract:We extend the asymptotic Samuel function of an ideal to a filtration and show that many of the good properties of this function for an ideal are true for filtrations. There are, however, interesting differences, which we explore. We study the notion of projective equivalence of filtrations and the relation between the asymptotic Samuel function and the multiplicity of a filtration. We further consider the case of discrete valued filtrations and show that they have particularly nice properties.

Abstract:We provide quantitative and abstract strong convergence results for sequences from a compact metric space satisfying a certain form of generalized Fejér monotonicity where (1) the metric can be replaced by a much more general type of function measuring distances (including, in particular, certain Bregman distances), (2) full Fejér monotonicity is relaxed to a partial variant and (3) the distance functions are allowed to vary along the iteration. For such sequences, the paper provides explicit and effective rates of metastability and even rates of convergence, the latter under a regularity assumption that generalizes the notion of metric regularity introduced by Kohlenbach, López-Acedo and Nicolae, itself an abstract generalization of many regularity notions from the literature. In the second part of the paper, we apply the abstract quantitative results established in the first part to two algorithms: one algorithm for approximating zeros of maximally monotone and maximally ρ -comonotone operators in Hilbert spaces (in the sense of Combettes and Pennanen as well as Bauschke, Moursi and Wang) that incorporates inertia terms every other term and another algorithm for approximating zeros of monotone operators in Banach spaces (in the sense of Browder) that is only Fejér monotone w.r.t. a certain Bregman distance.

However, such processes are often regular in the following sense: the distant past values of the process have diminishing influence on the distribution of the present value. We provide, under an equivalence assumption, slightly stronger than the absolute continuity assumption of Jacod, alternative proofs to results concerning canonical decomposition of an F -martingale in the enlarged filtrations. Also, we address martingales’ characterization in the enlarged filtrations in terms of martingales in the reference filtration, as well as predictable representation theorems in the enlarged filtrations.

Abstract:We analyse the exponential stability properties of a class of measure-valued equations arising in nonlinear multi-target filtering problems. We also prove the uniform convergence properties w.r.t. the time parameter of a rather general class of stochastic filtering algorithms, including sequential Monte Carlo type models and mean eld particle interpretation models. We illustrate these results in the context of the Bernoulli and the Probability Hypothesis Density filter, yielding what seems to be the first results of this kind in this subject.

Abstract:We propose some backward-forward martingale decompositions for functions of reversible Markov chains. These decompositions are used to prove the functional CLT for reversible Markov chains with asymptotically linear variance of partial sums. We also provide a proof of the equivalence between asymptotic linearity of the variance and convergence of the integral of $1/(1-t)$ with respect to the associated spectral measure $\rho$. We also study the asymptotic behavior of linear processes having as innovations mean zero square integrable functions of stationary reversible Markov chains. We apply this study to several cases of reversible stationary Markov chains that arise in regression estimation.

Abstract:In this paper we study progressive filtration expansions with cadlag processes. Using results from the weak convergence of sigma fields theory, we first establish a semimartingale convergence theorem. Then we apply it in a filtration expansion with a process setting and provide sufficient conditions for a semimartingale of the base filtration to remain a semimartingale in the expanded filtration.
