Abstract:Software-defined networks (SDNs) are an innovative and emerging networking technology that can enhance the scalability and performance of the network. In multiple-controller SDNs, balancing the load among the controllers by reducing the number of switch migrations and considering the characteristics of incoming data flow is a significant problem. To address the above problem, this paper proposes GLBMF, a greedy-based load-balancing approach that reduces the number of switch migrations and prioritizes mice flow traffic. GLBMF triggers load balancing by migrating switches from the overloaded to the underloaded controllers whenever the mean-square deviation from the average load of all controllers exceeds a predefined threshold. Furthermore, it selects switches by prioritizing the mice-flow traffic. The switches having less mice-flow traffic have higher priority for migration to reduce the overall packet losses in the network. The numerical results show that GLBMF surpasses conventional works in terms of throughput, number of switch migrations, response time, and packet loss.
