Abstract:As a well-known translator and linguist in the world, Eugene Nida devoted himself to the development of translation theory. His translation theories enjoy an incomparably significant position in the translation field and have had a pretty profound influence on the translation of the Bible. Moreover, his translation theories enable people to get more knowledge and deeper understanding of translation, which broaden their horizons, especially the well-known theory “dynamic equivalence”, renamed as “functional equivalence” later, is of great significance in guiding the translation practice of human beings. Consequently, it is necessary to study and research Nida’s translation theories, and only when we fully understand the connotation and meaning of Eugene Nida’s translation theories can we apply them to practice reasonably and thus improve the quality of translation.

Abstract:This paper gives a brief introduction to Nida’s life experience and the formation of “functional equivalence” translation theory. Nida’s translation theory was not formed overnight, but perfected and deepened through unceasing practical exploration. From the initial “dynamic equivalence” to the final “functional equivalence”, Nida’s translation theory fully embodies its vivid life value. On the Flaw of Nida's Functional Equivalence Theory in Perspective of Translator's Subjectivity

Abstract:Since early 1980's,the attitudes of Chinese translators to Nida's Functional Equivalence Theory have changed from early total acceptance to present much criticism and even occasionally total refusal. The previous perspectives on this theory are mostly focused on the nature, the standard and the testing of translation. This article will, by taking the Translator's Subjectivity as the perspective,taking the Translatoion's Subjectivity Study in western translation field in 1970's as the background and taking the Translator's Subjectivity theories as the theoretical basis, display one flaw that this theory does not pay enough attention to the translator's subjectivity by using the defination and significance of Translator's Subjectivity. Meanwhile, this article will explore three presentations of the flaw and three reasons why the flaw exists.

Abstract:: As a literary genre, novels have unique and distinctive artistic characteristics. Novel translation should not only follow the corresponding communication purpose, but also take into account the linguistic characteristics and cultural factors of the novel, and strive to retain the style of the original in the translated text, to ensure that the translated text can bring readers the same reading experience as the original. This concept coincides with Eugene Nida's theory of functional equivalence. Based on Eugene Nida's functional equivalence theory, this paper will analyze the translation of Everything I Never Told You from three levels: lexical, syntactic and textual. As for the lexical level, the four-character Chinese structure is suggested. At the syntactic level, the right combination and division strategies should be used according to the source language text. When dealing with the textual level, two aspects should be taken into account, i.e. the communicative context and the situational context, to ensure the accurate translation of specific terms, phrases and sentences.

Abstract:Since the beginning of 1980s, the most influential translation theories from the west with the most far-reaching effect have been those by E. Nida, such as dynamic equivalence, equivalent effect and receptor's response, among which the last is of particular interest. Therefore, there is the necessity to have a close reading of classical writings, carefully examine the translation theories by E. Nida and properly evaluate his kernel theory of “receptor's response”. It is concluded that the theory of “receptor's response” not only embraces the limitations of the prescriptive traditional translation theories, but contains new ideas of translation studies as well, and its influence in the very beginning of its introduction into the field of translation studies in China was primarily the former.

Abstract:Over the past few years, with China's rising international status, the international arena has a more right to speak. The emergence of a large number of words with Chinese characteristics has played an important role in China's propaganda. When the eastern and Western cultures are blended, it is the most important task for the translators to spread the Chinese and Western culture to the western countries. The essence of translation is to translate one language into another, which is communicated to the audience. Translation theory is often divided into translation and interpretation, translation and translation skills such as transliteration, literal translation and free translation techniques, analysis of the basic skills of interpreting translation skills for the purpose of this paper is to reference the translation. The famous American translation theorist Nida "s Functional Equivalence Based on the theory, he believes that between the source language and the target language can be achieved at four levels of equivalence: vocabulary equivalence, syntactic equivalence, stylistic equivalence and textual equivalence. This paper analyzes the application of translation methods such as transliteration, literal translation and free translation from four levels of equivalence, and explores the translation of Chinese characteristics into English This paper discusses the English translation of Chinese tourism texts from the perspective of functional equivalence.

Abstract:Based on the notion that poetry is translatable, this paper will analyze the pros and cons of applying Eugene A. Nida’s functional equivalence theory to the translation of Lu Zhai , written by a famous Chinese poet Wang Wei in the Tang Dynasty (618-907 CE). Because poetry translation requires translators to transmit both the meaning and beauty of the original poem to the target readers to achieve the similar response. This requirement is consistent with Nida’s functional equivalence. But there are still limitations. The paper is composed of an introduction, the main body and the conclusion. Chapter One is the introduction of the research goal and significance, and a general introduction of Nida’s functional equivalence theory, and the Chinese poet Wang Wei as well as his poem Lu Zhai . Chapter Two shows a detailed analysis of the pros and cons of applying Nida’s functional equivalence theory to the English versions of Lu Zhai . Chapter Three is the conclusion of this paper, which summarizes the relation between translation theories and practice.

A review of Western translation history reveals a rich diversity of translation thoughts and a multitude of distinctive translators. Among them, two influential figures in the Western translation world, Eugene Nida and Peter Newmark, introduced renowned concepts such as functional equivalence, communicative translation, and semantic translation. These scholars have extensively studied translation theory, contributing significantly to the flourishing development of Western translation circles. This paper aims to comparatively analyze the thoughts of these two translation theorists from different dimensions, offering an analysis of the similarities and differences in perspectives on cultural context in translation and discussing implications for modern translation education. Abstract:This article expounds the importance of movie translation career through brief introduction of the art of films.At the same time,it illustrates that the movie translation is actually a kind of creation on the basis of the source language film through briefly introduction of the characteristics of the film language,and challenges that movie translators and dubbing voice actors will encounter in film translation and dubbing process,such as audio-visual synchrony,etc..Therefore,movie translators whom the success of a dubbed movie mainly depends on,are playing the role of creators accordingly.But these creators must strictly follow the lines in the source language movie and try to create a dubbed movie that accord with the aesthetic expression of the target language audience on this basis.This paper mainly represents important role played by Eugene Albert Nida's functional equivalence theory in the process of movie lines' translation from several aspects,so as to further illustrate that translation of movie lines needs more continuous efforts from translators to improve and even perfect the art.Of course,translation theory for guiding translation of movie lines is also needed to be matured and systematized.
