The Symplectiness Of Maxwell'S Equations

Abstract:The connections between Maxwell's equations and symplectic matrix are studied. First, we analyze the continuous-time Maxwell's differential equations in free space and verify its time evolution matrix (TEMA) is symplectic-unitary matrix for complex space or symplectic-orthogonal matrix for real space. Second, the spatial differential operators are discretized by pseudo-spectral (PS) approach with collocated grid and by finite-difference (FD) method with staggered grid. For the PS approach, the TEMA conserves symplectic-unitary property. For the FD method, the TEMA conserves symplectic-orthogonal property. Finally, symplectic integration scheme is used in the time direction. In particular, we find the symplectiness of the TEMA also can be conserved. The mathematical proofs presented are helpful for deep researching the symplectic PSTD approach and the symplectic FDTD method.
Axisymmetric Solutions to Einstein Field Equations via Integral Transforms

Abstract:In this paper, we present new axisymmetric and reflection symmetric vacuum solutions to the Einstein field equations. They are obtained using the Hankel integral transform method and all three solutions exhibit naked singularities. Our results further reinforce the importance and special character of axisymmetric solutions in general relativity and highlight the role of integral transforms methods in solving complex problems in this field. We compare our results to already existing solutions which exhibit the same type of singularities. In this context we notice that most known axial-symmetric solutions possess naked singularities. A discussion of characteristic features of the newly found metrics, e.g., blueshift and the geometry of the singularities, is given.

Abstract:The Riemann-Hilbert approach, in conjunction with the canonical Wiener-Hopf factorisation of certain matrix functions called monodromy matrices, enables one to obtain explicit solutions to the non-linear field equations of some gravitational theories. These solutions are encoded in the elements of a matrix $M$ depending on the Weyl coordinates $\rho$ and $v$, determined by that factorisation. We address here, for the first time, the underlying question of what happens when a canonical Wiener-Hopf factorisation does not exist, using the close connection of Wiener-Hopf factorisation with Toeplitz operators to study this question. For the case of rational monodromy matrices, we prove that the non-existence of a canonical Wiener-Hopf factorisation determines curves in the $(\rho,v)$ plane on which some elements of $M(\rho,v)$ tend to infinity, but where the space-time metric may still be well behaved. In the case of uncharged rotating black holes in four space-time dimensions and, for certain choices of coordinates, in five space-time dimensions, we show that these curves correspond to their ergosurfaces.

The solution involving five arbitrary functions of two variables is presented in explicit form (up to quadratures). An emphasis is made on the characterizing of the software utilized.

Abstract:Explicit solutions to the non-linear field equations of some gravitational theories can be obtained, by means of a Riemann-Hilbert approach, from a canonical Wiener-Hopf factorisation of certain matrix functions called monodromy matrices. In this paper we describe other types of factorisation from which solutions can be constructed in a similar way. Our approach is based on an invariance problem, which does not constitute a Riemann-Hilbert problem and allows to construct solutions that could not have been obtained by Wiener-Hopf factorisation of a monodromy matrix. It gives rise to a novel solution generating method based on matrix multiplications. We show, in particular, that new solutions can be obtained by multiplicative deformation of the canonical Wiener-Hopf factorisation, provided the latter exists, and that one can superpose such solutions. Examples of applications include Kasner, Einstein-Rosen wave and gravitational pulse wave solutions.

Abstract:More than thirty years passed since the first discoveries of various aspects of integrability of the symmetry reduced vacuum Einstein equations and electrovacuum Einstein - Maxwell equations were made and gave rise to constructions of powerful solution generating methods for these equations. In the subsequent papers, the inverse scattering approach and soliton generating techniques, B\"acklund and symmetry transformations, formulations of auxiliary Riemann-Hilbert or homogeneous Hilbert problems and various linear integral equation methods have been developed in detail and found different interesting applications. Recently many efforts of different authors were aimed at finding of generalizations of these solution generating methods to various (symmetry reduced) gravity, string gravity and supergravity models in four and higher dimensions. However, in some cases it occurred that even after the integrability of a system was evidenced, some difficulties arise which do not allow the authors to develop some effective methods for constructing of solutions. The present survey includes some remarks concerning the history of discoveries of some of the well known solution generating methods for these equations, brief descriptions of various approaches and their scopes as well as some comments concerning the possible difficulties of generalizations of various approaches to more complicate gravity models and possible ways for avoiding these difficulties.

Abstract:This paper discusses the use of the Riemann-Silberstein vector to solve the source-free Maxwell's equations and obtains novel analytical solutions. The solving process naturally leads to the spinor form of the source-free Maxwell's equations. Several powerful theorems are established to solve this spinor form equation. The Waveguide Solution Theorem provides an elegant way to solve waveguide problems, while The Schrodinger Solution Theorem connects the Maxwell's equations with the two-dimensional Schrodinger equation. By utilizing The Schrodinger Solution Theorem, a precise formula for spatiotemporal diffraction of the Maxwell's equations is derived, which allows for the reconstruction of electromagnetic waves throughout space and time based on the field distribution on the diffraction screen. And finally, by studying some relevant contour integrals, two additional simple but beautiful mathematical theorems that are necessarily satisfied by electromagnetic field in any source-free region are derived.

Abstract:In this paper, we propose a new direct approach to solving Maxwell's equations in time domain. Completely different from the classic one, this approach is derived and analysed based on a strategy which is independent of the well-known Fourier (or Laplace) transformation and the corresponding inverse transformation. The analysis first decouples Maxwell's equations on the basis of a potential theory and then uses an operator-variation-of-constants formula (the Duhamel Principle) to achieve the expression of exact solutions of Maxwell's equations. We further illustrate the simplicity and multi-purpose applicability of the new approach in linear, homogeneous, isotropic and lossless (bounded or unbounded and source-free or source) medium (in rectangular, cylindrical or spherical coordinates). Moreover, we make a study on impulse electromagnetics. With this new approach, this paper bridges the gap between the time domain electromagnetics and the frequency domain electromagnetics.

Abstract:In this paper, new explicit exact solutions for the stationary static Einstein's vacuum field equation are obtained. Symmetry analysis, based on Lie point transformations, is used to derive different similarity solutions. These transformations are used to reduce the equation under investigation into solvable ordinary differential equations, and then some interesting invariant solutions are presented. In addition, some of the solutions are obtained as a result of applying the Jacobi elliptic function expansion method to one of the reduced systems. Graphical representations of the obtained solutions are also shown.

Abstract:We show how solutions to the Ricci flow on Lorentzian manifolds, along with its generalizations, can be linked to Einstein's field equations. The approach involves deformations of the matter sector that are generated by quadratic functionals of the stress-energy tensor. We provide illustrative examples by explicitly constructing analytical solutions within maximally symmetric spacetimes and in the context of Born-Infeld's nonlinear electrodynamics. Finally, we discuss configurations involving global topological monopoles, emphasizing the versatility of this approach across various geometric and physical settings.

Abstract:A regular method is proposed that makes it possible to obtain a new exact solution with a wormhole from any topologically trivial exact solution of the Einstein–Maxwell equations in an electrovacuum (topological dressing method). This solution has a structure similar to a thin-shell wormhole, but unlike it, it is exact and therefore does not require the presence of any other field sources. It is shown that the wormhole itself creates both gravitational and electromagnetic fields. The corresponding effective mass and effective charge are distributed over the surface of its throat and around it. Topological dressing of the Reissner–Nordström solution with zero effective mass and non-zero effective charge gives a new solution describing a traversable wormhole. It is shown that this solution is stable in the presence of external pressure.

Abstract:Verlinde's proposal on the entropic origin of gravity is based strongly on the assumption that the equipartition law of energy holds on the holographic screen induced by the mass distribution of the system. However, from the theory of statistical mechanics we know that the equipartition law of energy does not hold in the limit of very low temperature. Inspired by the Debye model for the equipartition law of energy in statistical thermodynamics and adopting the viewpoint that gravitational systems can be regarded as a thermodynamical system, we modify Einstein field equations. We also perform the study for Poisson equation and modified Newtonian dynamics (MOND). Interestingly enough, we find that the origin of the MOND theory can be understood from Debye entropic gravity perspective. Thus our study may fill in the gap existing in the literature understanding the theoretical origin of MOND theory. In the limit of high temperature our results reduce to their respective standard gravitational equations.

Abstract:The multipole moments method is not only an aid to understand the deformation of the space-time, but also an effective tool to solve the approximate solutions of the Einstein field equation. However, The usual multipole moments are recursively defined by a sequence of symmetric and trace-free tensors, which are inconvenient for practical resolution. In this paper, we develop a simple procedure to generate the series solutions, and propose a method to identify the free parameters by taking the Schwarzschild metric as a standard ruler. Some well known examples are analyzed and compared with the series solutions.

Abstract:In this paper, we develop a new algorithm to find the exact solutions of the Einstein’s field equations. Time-periodic solutions are constructed by using the new algorithm. The singularities of the time-periodic solutions are investigated and some new physical phenomena, such as degenerate event horizon and time-periodic event horizon, are found. The applications of these solutions in modern cosmology and general relativity are expected.

Abstract:The purpose of this work is to review the status about stationary solutions of the axially symmetric Einstein-Vlasov system with a focus on open problems of both analytical and numerical nature. For the latter we emphasize that the code used to construct stationary solutions in \cite{Ames2016,Ames2019} is open source, see \cite{Ames2023joss}. In the analytical setting the open problems include establishing methods for proving existence of axisymmetric stationary solutions which are far from spherically symmetric, both in the general case and for certain special classes of solutions pointed out in the text. In the numerical setting there are intriguing properties of highly relativistic solutions that demand further attention, such as whether a sequence of such stationary solutions can approach a Kerr black hole, or if they necessarily approach the thin ring limit reminiscent of cosmic strings. The question of whether stationary solutions include states with thin-disk like morphologies as seen in many galaxies is also open. Finally, there are opportunities to extend this research to new settings such as the case of massless particles and coupled black hole-matter systems. We believe that some of the open problems highlighted here are of central importance for the understanding of nature.

On the ambiguity of solutions of the system of the Maxwell equations

Abstract:This work, that is devoted to the memory of Dr. Andrew Chubykalo and his legacy, is the improved version of the paper published in Annales de la Fondation Louis de Broglie journal. In this article, methods for solving the Maxwell equations are analyzed. First, a method based on the direct differentiation of Maxwell's equations and their reduction to the wave equation for an electric field is considered in detail. It is shown that this method cannot give a closed-form solution that does not contain integrals. The other method, which is most often used by scientists, is based on the introduction of auxiliary quantities such as electromagnetic potentials. But rewriting the Maxwell equations via potentials requires the introduction of an additional constraint - the gauge condition. Some analysis of the expressions for the electric field obtained in two gauges, Coulomb and Lorenz gauges, shows that, contrary to the generally accepted opinion that expressions for the electromagnetic field should be identical in any gauge, the final expressions for the electric field differ in different gauges. Consequently, the uniqueness of the solution of the Maxwell equations is absent.

Abstract:Based on the analysis of biquaternion quadratic forms of field, it is shown that Maxwell equations arise as a consequence of the principle of conservation of the energy-momentum flow of field in space-time. It turns out that this principle presupposes the existence more general nonlinear field equations. Classical linear Maxwell equations are embedded in a special way into new nonlinear equations and are their special case. It is shown that in a number of important cases nonlinear equations, in contrast to linear ones, allow solutions that have a swirling energy flow. Solutions of the equations we obtained make it possible to give wave description of charged particles, common for quantum mechanics, within the framework of nonlinear classical electrodynamics. Special attention in the work is paid to the problem of dividing the field into "own" field of a charged particle and a field "external" to it. From the nonlinear field equations follow both the classical Maxwell equations themselves and the equations of charges moving under the Lorentz force. In this way, the problem of finding nonlinear field equations that include interaction is solved. In our approach, the particle charge is electromagnetic (complex-valued), passing through periodically changing linear combinations of electric and magnetic charges - from purely electric to purely magnetic. In real processes, it is not the particle charge itself that plays a role, but its phase relationship with other charges and fields.
