Abstract:We study homeomorphisms of compact metric spaces whose restriction to the nonwandering set has the pseudo-orbit tracing property. We prove that if there are positively expansive measures, then the topological entropy is positive. Some short applications of this result are included.

Abstract:The statistical properties of mostly expanding partially hyperbolic diffeomorphisms have been substantially studied. In this paper, we would like to address the entropy properties of mostly expanding partially hyperbolic diffeomorphisms. We prove that for mostly expanding partially hyperbolic diffeomorphisms with minimal strong stable foliation and one-dimensional center bundle, there exists a $C^1$-open neighborhood of them, in which the topological entropy varies continuously and the intermediate entropy property holds. To prove that, we show that each non-hyperbolic ergodic measure is approached by horseshoes in entropy and in weak$*$-topology.

Abstract:It is an open problem whether a homeomorphism on a compact metric space satisfying that each proper pair is either positively or negatively Li--Yorke, called completely Li--Yorke chaotic, can have positive entropy. In the present paper, an affirmative answer to this question is given. In fact, for each homeomorphism $T$ with positive entropy such that each proper pair is not two-sided asymptotic, a completely Li--Yorke chaotic homeomorphism with positive entropy associated with the given homeomorphism can be constructed.

Nonwandering sets and the entropy of local homeomorphisms

Abstract:A local homeomorphism between open subsets of a locally compact Hausdorff space induces dynamical systems with a wide range of applications, including in C*-algebras. In this paper, we introduce the concepts of nonwandering and wandering sets for such systems and show that, under mild conditions, the metric entropy is concentrated in the nonwandering set. More generally, we demonstrate that the entropy of the system is the maximum of the entropies of the systems restricted to the nonwandering set and the closure of the wandering set. We illustrate these results with several examples, including applications to subshifts over countable alphabets.

Measures of maximal entropy for non-uniformly hyperbolic maps

Abstract:For $C^{1+}$ maps, possibly non-invertible and with singularities, we prove that each homoclinic class of an adapted hyperbolic measure carries at most one adapted hyperbolic measure of maximal entropy. We then apply this to study the finiteness/uniqueness of such measures in several different settings: finite horizon dispersing billiards, codimension one partially hyperbolic endomorphisms with "large" entropy, robustly non-uniformly hyperbolic volume-preserving endomorphisms as in Andersson-Carrasco-Saghin, and strongly transitive non-uniformly expanding maps.

Abstract:Abstract In 1994, Kan provided the first example of maps with intermingled basins. The Kan example corresponds to a partially hyperbolic endomorphism defined on a surface, with the boundary exhibiting two intermingled hyperbolic physical measures. Both measures are supported on the boundary, and they also maximize the topological entropy. In this work, we prove the existence of a third hyperbolic measure supported in the interior of the cylinder that maximizes the entropy. We also prove this statement for a larger class of invariant measures of large class maps including perturbations of the Kan example.

Abstract:Let f : M -> M be a C-1 diffeomorphism with a dominated splitting on a compact Riemanian manifold M without boundary. We state and prove several sufficient conditions for the topological entropy of f to be positive. The conditions deal with the dynamical behaviour of the (non -necessarily invariant) Lebesgue measure. In particular, if the Lebesgue measure is (5 recurrent then the entropy of f is positive. We give counterexamples showing that these sufficient conditions are not necessary. Finally, in the case of partially hyperbolic diffeomorphisms, we give a positive lower bound for the entropy relating it with the dimension of the unstable and stable sub-bundles.

Abstract:The notion of expansivity and its generalizations (measure expansive, measure positively expansive, continuum-wise expansive, countably-expansive) are well known for deterministic systems and can be a useful property for studying significant type of behavior, such as chaotic one. This study aims to extend these notions into a random context and prove a relationship between relative positive entropy and random expansive measures and apply it to show that if a random dynamical system has positive relative topological entropy then the $w$-stable classes have zero measure for the conditional measures. We also prove that there exists a probability measure that is both invariant and expansive. Moreover, we obtain a relation between the notions of random expansive measures and random countably-expansive systems.

Abstract:In this note we study some properties of topological entropy for non-compact non-metrizable spaces. We prove that if a uniformly continuous self-map $f$ of a uniform space has topological shadowing property then the map $f$ has positive uniform entropy, which extends the similar known result for homeomorphisms on compact metric spaces having shadowing property.

Abstract:We consider partially hyperbolic diffeomorphisms $f$ with a one-dimensional central direction such that the unstable entropy exceeds the stable entropy. Our main result proves that such maps have a finite number of ergodic measures of maximal entropy. Moreover, any $C^{1+}$ diffeomorphism near $f$ in the $C^1$ topology possesses at most the same number of ergodic measures of maximal entropy. Our contribution is in extending the findings in [4] to arbitrary dimensions. We believe our technique, essentially distinct from the one in that paper, is robust and may find applications in further contexts.

Abstract:We present a general definition of entropy in the setting of pre-ordered semigroups, extending the notion of topological entropy. From our definition, we obtain the basic properties exhibited by various entropy-like theories encountered in the literature, many of them being particular cases of our scheme. We show how to derive from the properties of the abstract entropy corresponding properties in the concrete cases. We also introduce a notion of expansiveness in this general context, extending the concept of expansive dynamical system, which is related to the entropy in a similar fashion as in the case of topological dynamics. Finally, as an application, we suggest some definitions of new entropies and expansiveness in concrete cases.

Abstract:We present an entropy formula of Ledrappier-Young type for invariant measures (maybe non-SRB) of C(2) endomorphisms (maybe non-invertible and with singularities) on a compact manifold via their inverse limit spaces. This result may be considered as the most general form of entropy formula for a deterministic system with an invariant measure, and a preliminary step to Eckmann-Ruelle conjecture. As an important application, we have proved the exact dimensionality of ergodic measures invariant under expanding maps.

Abstract:We prove that if two free probability-measure-preserving (p.m.p.) -actions are Shannon orbit equivalent, then they have the same entropy. The argument also applies more generally to yield the same conclusion for free p.m.p. actions of finitely generated virtually Abelian groups. Together with the isomorphism theorems of Ornstein and Ornstein–Weiss and the entropy invariance results of Austin and Kerr–Li in the non-virtually-cyclic setting, this shows that two Bernoulli actions of any non-locally-finite countably infinite amenable group are Shannon orbit equivalent if and only if they are measure conjugate. We also show, at the opposite end of the stochastic spectrum, that every -odometer is Shannon orbit equivalent to the universal -odometer.

Abstract: In this article we prove that for a $C^{1+\alpha}$ diffeomorphism on a compact Riemannian manifold, if there is a hyperbolic ergodic measure whose support is not uniformly hyperbolic, then the topological entropy of the set of irregular points that are not uniformly hyperbolic is larger than or equal to the metric entropy of the hyperbolic ergodic measure. In the process of proof, we give an abstract general mechanism to study topological entropy of irregular points provided that the system has a sequence of nondecreasing invariant compact subsets such that every subsystem has shadowing property and is transitive.

Abstract:The Adler-Konheim-McAndrew type definitions and the Bowen-Dinaburg-Hood type definitions of parametric topological entropy will be considered on orbits and coincidence orbits of nonautonomous multivalued maps in compact Hausdorff spaces. Their mutual relationship and their link to various further types of definitions like those of (parametric) preimage entropy, will be investigated. In this way, several recent results of the other authors will be generalized and extended into a new setting.

Abstract:In this note, a notion of generalized topological entropy for arbitrary subsets of the space of all sequences in a compact topological space is introduced. It is shown that for a continuous map on a compact space, the generalized topological entropy of the set of all orbits of the map coincides with the classical topological entropy of the map. Some basic properties of this new notion of entropy are considered; among them are the behavior of the entropy with respect to disjoint union, cartesian product, component restriction and dilation, shift mapping, and some continuity properties with respect to Vietoris topology. As an example, it is shown that any self-similar structure of a fractal given by a finite family of contractions gives rise to a notion of intrinsic topological entropy for subsets of the fractal. A generalized notion of Bowen’s entropy associated to any increasing sequence of compatible semimetrics on a topological space is introduced and some of its basic properties are considered. Abstract:In this paper we establish a dichotomy for the ergodic measures of maximal entropy for partially hyperbolic diffeomorphisms with one-dimensional compact center leaves which are virtually skew products over (transitive) Anosov homeomorphism. We prove that if the whole manifold is the unique minimal invariant set saturated by unstable foliation, then either there exists a unique measure of maximal entropy which is non-hyperbolic or there are exactly two hyperbolic ergodic measures of maximal entropy.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the variation of ergodic measures of maximal $ u $-entropy among the set of diffeomorphisms factoring over Anosov and having $ c $-mostly contracting center.
