Abstract:On behalf of the Technical Program Committee, we would like to welcome you to ACM MobiHoc 2015 in Hangzhou, China. ACM MobiHoc is the premier international symposium dedicated to addressing challenges emerging from wireless networking and computing. The highly selective technical program has traditionally brought together a unique blend of researchers and practitioners, thereby influencing the direction of a wide range of wireless networking research areas. We hope that you will find the conference intellectually stimulating. We are delighted to report that this year's program continues the tradition of excellence set by this conference over the years. We received 250 submissions, which has made it extremely challenging to select only 37 papers for presentation and inclusion in the proceedings. At such a selective acceptance rate (14.8%) many of the papers that we could not accept are of high quality and we are certain that many of them will appear in the near future at other top-tier conferences. The paper selection process was handled by the Technical Program Committee (TPC). The TPC included 65 excellent members with expertise spanning all the major areas relevant to the conference scope. In particular, the TPC was composed of members from 16 countries and included 11 members from research labs and industry. The 250 submitted papers went through a first phase of reviews followed by a very active online discussion phase. Then, several papers went through a second review phase. The reviews were provided by the TPC members and, when needed, a few reviews were provided by external expert reviewers. At the end of this process and based on the results of the online discussion, 12 papers were accepted and 46 papers were further discussed at the TPC meeting that was held on Feb. 28, 2015 at Columbia University in New York. Following the discussions at the meeting, 25 additional papers were accepted. Ten of the accepted papers were assigned shepherds who volunteered to assist the authors during the process of preparing the final version. The work of the TPC was outstanding and we thank all the members for the time and efforts they dedicated to the paper selection process and to attending the meeting. These efforts make this wonderful conference possible. We are pleased with the strong technical program of the conference, represented by the papers in these proceedings. The conference program covers a wide range of topics, including routing, scheduling, algorithms, performance evaluation, dynamic spectrum access, cellular networks, sensor networks, mobile applications and crowdsensing, security, and wireless systems. This year's program is preceded by a set of seven workshops. It continues the tradition of having keynote talks from outstanding leaders in the field, and it includes a poster/demo session. The keynote speakers are Prof. Ness B. Shroff, the Ohio Eminent Scholar in Networking and Communications at The Ohio State University, Prof. Wen Gao, Vice President of the NSF of China, and Prof. Andrea Goldsmith, the Stephen Harris Professor in the School of Engineering, Professor of Electrical Engineering at Stanford University.
OMNeT++ and mosaik: Enabling Simulation of Smart Grid Communications

Abstract:This paper presents a preliminary system architecture of integrating OMNeT++ into the mosaik co-simulation framework. This will enable realistic simulation of communication network protocols and services for smart grid scenarios and on the other side, further development of communication protocols for smart grid applications. Thus, by integrating OMNeT++ and mosaik, both communities will be able to leverage each others's sophisticated simulation models and expertise. The main challenges identified are the external management of the OMNeT++ simulation kernel and performance issues when federating various simulators, including OMNeT++ into the mosaik framework. The purpose of this paper is to bring these challenges up and to gather relevant experience and expertise from the OMNeT++ community. We especially encourage collaboration among all OMNeT++ developers and users.

Abstract:Simulation is widely adopted in the study of modern computer networks. In this context, OMNeT++ provides a set of very effective tools that span from the definition of the network, to the automation of simulation execution and quick result representation. However, as network models become more and more complex to cope with the evolution of network systems, the amount of simulation factors, the number of simulated nodes and the size of results grow consequently, leading to simulations with larger scale. In this work, we perform a critical analysis of the tools provided by OMNeT++ in case of such large-scale simulations. We then propose a unified and flexible software architecture to support simulation automation.

VDM is one of the longest established formal methods for systems development. A lively community of researchers and practitioners has grown up in academia and industry has grown around the modelling languages (VDM-SL, VDM++, VDM-RT, CML) and tools (VDMTools, Overture, Crescendo, Symphony, the INTO-CPS chain, and ViennaTalk). Together, these provide a platform for work on modelling and analysis technology that includes static and dynamic analysis, test generation, execution support, and model checking. This workshop provided updates on the emerging technology of VDM/Overture, including collaboration infrastructure, collaborative modelling and co-simulation for Cyber-Physical Systems.

Abstract:It is our great pleasure to welcome you to the 1st ACM Workshop on Emerging Name-Oriented Mobile Networking Design (NoM): Architecture, Algorithms, Applications. The concept of Nameoriented Networking (also referred to as Content/Information-Centric Networking) has taken center stage in research on the architecture of the future Internet. Instead of host-to-host communication, as in the current Internet architecture, a name-oriented network architecture makes named data a first class entity. It cares about which data to fetch instead of which host to reach. Thus it uses data names to retrieve content instead of reaching data containers. Name-oriented network architectures appear very promising for mobile networks, such as vehicular and ad hoc networks, which account for a large, and exponentially increasing number of devices and connections that clearly suffer from inadequate mobility support in the current IP architecture. We received 8 submissions and accepted 5 papers with the help of a knowledgeable technical program committee. Although the number of submissions is low in this year, the quality of each received submission indicates that named data networking have promise as potential mobility protocol. This aims to launch mobility discussion of named data networking and explore this new direction from architectural issue to specific issues.

Satellite assisted disrupted communications in OMNeT++: Experiments and IoT Case Study

Abstract:In this work we discuss the utilization of micro-satellite constellations as effective infrastructures for the communication among ground stations or even among 'smart' devices in IoT scenarios. We design and implement a series of experiments in OMNeT++ (with the OS3 framework) and evaluate their results in different scenarios. Initially, we establish the necessary theoretical background for space communications, including satellite and constellation design features, with existing and novel satellite services in various areas of interest. Furthermore, we detail the OMNeT++ and OS3 frameworks and introduce the significant variables/parameters for our experiments. Our scenarios are presented in three groups, departing from the straightforward one sender - one receiver communication and proceeding with a topology of multiple neighboring ground stations transmitting pings. We conclude with an IoT Case Study in which we import real measurements from sensors of the SmartSantander test-bed. Through our experiments we observe the effect of simulation parameters such as the constellation design (e.g., the number of satellites and planes) and the intersatelliteLinks regarding the produced RTT and ping loss, while we also highlight their potential contribution on networking communications when disruptions dominate.

Abstract:We are in the process of developing a system architecture for opportunistic and information centric communications. This architecture (called Keetchi), meant for the Internet of Things (IoT) is focussed on enabling applications to perform distributed and decentralised communications among smart devices. To realise and evaluate this architecture, we follow a 3-step approach. Our first approach of evaluation is the development of a testbed with smart devices (mainly smart phones and tablets) deployed with this architecture including the applications. The second step is where the architecture is evaluated in large scale scenarios with the OMNeT++ simulation environment. The third step is where the OMNeT++ simulation environment is fed with traces of data collected from experiments done using the testbed. In realising these environments, we develop the functionality of this architecture as a common code base that is able to operate in the OMNeT++ environment as well as in the smart devices of the testbed (e.g., Android, iOS, Contiki, etc.). This paper presents the details of the "Write once, compile anywhere" (WOCA) code base architecture of Keetchi.

Abstract:The European Materials and Modelling Ontology (EMMO) is a top-level ontology designed by the European Materials Modelling Council to facilitate semantic interoperability between platforms, models, and tools in computational molecular engineering, integrated computational materials engineering, and related applications of materials modelling and characterization. Additionally, domain ontologies exist based on data technology developments from specific platforms. The present work discusses the ongoing work on establishing a European Virtual Marketplace Framework, into which diverse platforms can be integrated. It addresses common challenges that arise when marketplace-level domain ontologies are combined with a top-level ontology like the EMMO by ontology alignment.

Abstract:We are pleased to present the proceedings of the 15th ACM International Symposium on Mobile Ad-Hoc Networking and Computing (ACM MobiHoc 2014), held in Philadelphia, PA, USA, from August 11 toAugust 14, 2014. This conference continues with the great success of the previous editions. ACM MobiHoc is well recognized as a premier international forum for researchers, practitioners and students for discussions on emerging challenges from mobile networking, computing, and systems. It covers topics ranging from fundamental theory, to technology issues, to applications and system development. To align with the conference vision, the Technical Program Committee has assembled a strong and diverse program, covering a wide range of technical topics, hoping to influence the direction of a broad spectrum of wireless networking research. This year we received 211 submissions from countries covering all the world regions. Under the guidance of the TPC Co-Chairs, the technical program committee and the reviewers provided outstanding work. Each of the submitted papers, except the early rejected papers due to violation of the rule of anonymity, received, on average, three to four in-depth reviews from Program Committee members, and the process was completed by a TPC review with a recommendation of acceptance/reject/TPC-discussion. The first round review and discussion led by TPC-lead recommended 7 papers for direct acceptance. Based on the TPC recommendation and the review scores, 60 papers were selected for TPC meeting held on May 23, 2014, in Chicago. These papers are randomly grouped into two groups with consideration of balance of paper review scores and avoiding TPC conflict of interests. Extensive discussions of these papers were held among TPC members to advise the TPC Chairs of accepted papers for the program. Only 33 papers were accepted from the TPC meeting. Total 40 papers are included in the final program as regular papers. Due to the large number of submissions, many high quality papers, unfortunately, could not be included in the conference program. Overall, the final program is excellent and diverse, and covers both fundamental issues as well as emerging topics. The ACM MobiHoc 2014 technical program, in addition to ten technical sessions, consists of three keynote talks, a panel on full-duplex communication chaired by Dr. Ness Shroff, a poster session, a demo session, and a demo pitch session. It is our great pleasure and privilege to invite three worldknown researchers, Dr. Farnam Jahanian from NSF, Dr. Joao Barros from University of Porto, and Dr. Roger Wattenhofer from ETH to give three keynote talks on various interesting and timely topics. In addition to the main conference program, seven workshops will be held together with the conference on August 11, 2014.

Abstract:Scientific workflows have become integral tools in broad scientific computing use cases. Science discovery is increasingly dependent on workflows to orchestrate large and complex scientific experiments that range from execution of a cloud-based data preprocessing pipeline to multi-facility instrument-to-edge-to-HPC computational workflows. Given the changing landscape of scientific computing and the evolving needs of emerging scientific applications, it is paramount that the development of novel scientific workflows and system functionalities seek to increase the efficiency, resilience, and pervasiveness of existing systems and applications. Specifically, the proliferation of machine learning/artificial intelligence (ML/AI) workflows, need for processing large scale datasets produced by instruments at the edge, intensification of near real-time data processing, support for long-term experiment campaigns, and emergence of quantum computing as an adjunct to HPC, have significantly changed the functional and operational requirements of workflow systems. Workflow systems now need to, for example, support data streams from the edge-to-cloud-to-HPC enable the management of many small-sized files, allow data reduction while ensuring high accuracy, orchestrate distributed services (workflows, instruments, data movement, provenance, publication, etc.) across computing and user facilities, among others. Further, to accelerate science, it is also necessary that these systems implement specifications/standards and APIs for seamless (horizontal and vertical) integration between systems and applications, as well as enabling the publication of workflows and their associated products according to the FAIR principles. This document reports on discussions and findings from the 2022 international edition of the Workflows Community Summit that took place on November 29 and 30, 2022.

Abstract:Mobile communication has become a vigorous field of research in computer science, due to the wide spreading of mobile technologies, applications and services. The intertwining of communication, computation and mobility constantly poses new challenges to algorithmic design in this area. The Foundations of Mobile Computing (FOMC) workshop is dedicated to all aspects that cover contributions both in the design and analysis of discrete/distributed algorithms, and in the system modeling of mobile, wireless and similarly dynamic networks. It aims to bring together the practitioners and theoreticians of the field to foster cooperation between research in mobile computing and algorithms.

Abstract:This volume contains the papers presented at the first International Workshop on Applications of Membrane Computing, Concurrency and Agent-based Modelling in Population Biology (AMCA-POP 2010) held in Jena, Germany on August 25th, 2010 as a satellite event of the 11th Conference on Membrane Computing (CMC11). The aim of the workshop is to investigate whether formal modelling and analysis techniques could be applied with profit to systems of interest for population biology and ecology. The considered modelling notations include membrane systems, Petri nets, agent-based notations, process calculi, automata-based notations, rewriting systems and cellular automata. Such notations enable the application of analysis techniques such as simulation, model checking, abstract interpretation and type systems to study systems of interest in disciplines such as population biology, ecosystem science, epidemiology, genetics, sustainability science, evolution and other disciplines in which population dynamics and interactions with the environment are studied. Abstract:Welcome to the 13th IEEE/ACM International Conference on Information Processing in Sensor Networks (IPSN 2014) in Berlin, Germany. IPSN is one of the flagship research conferences of the networked sensing and control community, and continues to serve as a major forum for cutting edge research results. In IPSN 2014, we made a few changes from the past years. First, we merged the Information Processing (IP) and the Sensor Platforms, Tools and Design Methods (SPOTS) tracks. Over the years, SPOTS track has fostered the research and dissemination of networked sensor platforms and design tools. It is a stable and integral part of the conference. We no longer need to call it out as a separate track. In IPSN 2014, although the authors may indicate whether their submissions are targeted for IP or SPOTS track, the reviews were assigned across tracks to the most appropriate reviewers. Among accepted papers, one third are labeled as SPOTS submissions by the authors, a similar ration of those in the submissions. Another change in IPSN 2014 was an experimental call for Challenge papers. The goal of these papers is to motivate the research community to think about new directions and future challenges. We received five challenge paper submissions, but none has passed the rigorous review process. This year, we received 111 submissions spanning across all areas of network sensors and information processing. These papers are from 5 continents, Asia, Australia, Europe, North America and South America. The reviews were handled in two phases. In the first phase, all papers received three reviews. All papers with at least one weak accept recommendation entered the second phase, where they received at least two more reviews. A physical TPC meeting was held in Houston, TX, USA, where 46 papers were discussed by the committee. In the end, 23 papers were accepted to appear in the final program. The acceptance rate is 20.7%. Then, each paper was shepherded by a TPC member to ensure that the final versions meet the highest publication quality. In the entire review process, we handled conflict of interests seriously. TPC members were blocked from reading the reviews and listening to discussions on papers that they have conflict with. Two papers co-authored by a TPC chair were handled out of the review system.

Abstract:In this paper, the network simulation framework OMNeT++ is used for development and testing of automotive Ethernet-Networks. Therefore OMNeT++ is extended by the INET framework. It is augmented by an implementation of the protocol SOME/IP (-SD) and an connector to the middleware Gamma V. The middleware is used to configure the network by initialization. Additionally data, which is sent over the network, can be changed on the fly. The contribution of this work regards three main aspects: First, the use of OMNeT++ for network development in automotive industry. Second, the employment of an existing simulation model and using it as restbus simulation for Hardware in the Loop (HiL) testing or rapid prototyping. Finally, the implementation of SOME/IP(-SD) into OMNeT++.
